Realistically speaking what are the mechs even contributing to this military force that you couldn't get by just swapping out the APCs for IFVs instead?

Yeah, imagine having one generalized currency most people in the known world use for international trade and as the standard with which value is appraised by.
Imagine that being the common currency for acquiring some of the best military hardware money can buy.
Crazy idea, innit?

They can limp.
They're slow as shit and an easier target, but still somewhat mobile.
If you lose both legs however you're fucked and have to get dragged off by a bigger mech.
>>
>>64655788
>Does having full-time wheels stop it being a mech?
I think as long as it CAN traverse terrain by walking it still counts.
Might not even be a bad way to do it, have it lock the breaks on, insert heavy steel bars, and turn the wheels into foot treads.

Idea was that they'd fire up massive fragmenting rounds to make up for how much of a pain in the ass it is to hit something moving fast in the sky.
That and it was expected that you'd get hit by formations rather than small lone craft.

This is actually an infamous penal battalion for repeat offenders caught on their third offense.
See, in Toronto, if you get caught speeding, the first time you just get a ticket, but if you get caught again, they force you to go to the game, and this is where you end up if you're on your 3rd+ offense.

dual purpose naval guns are just neat. I think the last time one was used against aircraft was during the Falklands War when the British used their 4.5" guns (some WW2 ass hand loaded ones on the oldest frigates but mostly the faster firing and more modern "R2D2" autoloaded version). They have a bunch of claimed air kills including 1 claimed exocet shootdown.

I want to habib it but British kill claims in the war are pretty dubious. Not in terms of inflating kill numbers (the numbers are well verified) but in terms of what shot things down. The main issue is any time an air raid would happen they British would be putting up everything but the kitchen sink: long range SAMS, 3 different types of point defense SAMS, 4.5 guns, 40/20mm bofors and marines on deck with MANPADS, machine guns and rifles. In that situation its hard to tell what mount got the kill and the British seem to credit the kill to whatever was funniest

see also a Scimitar (adorable mini scout tank) allegedly killing a skyhawk with its 20mm cannon or a civilian employee of the NAAFI shop (think PX) aboard a ship shooting down an aircraft with an FN MAG.

Why were the huge Qing Dynasty armies so ineffective in the Opium Wars? They have to be the most one-sided wars in history.
87 replies and 22 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>64676056
Ming dynasty also fractured command chain with rotating officers.

You may wonder how they won its previous wars with the problems of fractured command chain.

In the Ming dynasty, command chain was also fractured, but during wartime, a governor or general was given exceptional power by the Emperor, given a special sword and allowed authority over ALL officers and troops in certain provinces.

During the campaigns against pirates, against Jurchens and against Portuguese and against the Dutch, individual officers were granted temporary command of all units in the province.

Zheng Zhilong commanded the entire Ming military in Fujian against the Dutch at Liaoluo bay in 1633.
>>
>>64676060
The Qing dynasty refused to grant exceptional command to any official or governor of any ethnicity.

The Qing emperors themselves used to micromanage campaigns, like Kangxi personally leading armies against the Dzungars, and Qianlong ordering specific Banner officers to lead campaigns in Burma with a specified number of troops assigned to them for the campaign.

The British never faced the entire Qing army on the coast, they skipped over entire idle garrisons to attack only garrisons in strategic positions, which were not reinforced by the other garrisons due to the totally fractured command chain.

Also, communication between cities in China took weeks since there was no telegraph. Messages about battles didn't reach Beijing until weeks after they happened in the First Opium war, and the emperor which tried to micromanage the war from Beijing (never personally going down to oversee the war in the southeast), sent orders which became outdated by the time they arrived.
>>
The Han Green Standard Army general Yue Zhongqi (the conqueror of Tibet for the Qing) also rejected a suggestion for him to rebel against the Qing, because of the fractured command chain.

Yue Zhongqi was a descendant of the war hero Yue Fei during the Song dynasty.

the troops under his command weren't "his". He was rotated and he was assigned to them temporarily and had zero assurances they and the officers under him were personally loyal to him.

If Yue Zhongqi tried to lead his troops to rebel against the Qing, all the officers under him might just refuse to obey and report him for rebellion.

By contrast, the three feudatories like Shang Kexi had their own private armies, with command chain and staff separate from the regular Qing Eight Banners

Shang Kexi appointed his own officers who were personally loyal to him.

The Qing were finally forced to allow private armies again during the Taiping rebellion, with the Huai Army, Xiang Army and other provincial armies commanded by Li Hongzhang, Zeng Guofan and Zuo Zongtang who chose their own officers and raised their own troops.

If the Qing didn't allow this, the Taiping would have continued.

Manchus suffered the most deaths in the Opium wars and Boxer rebellion.

100,000 Manchus died in the Boxer rebellion, and the entire Manchu garrisons of Zhenjiang and Zhapu were killed in the first opium war.

Manchu banner armies were devastated outside of Beijing in the second opium war.
>>
>>64676037
>The real reason for lopsided Qing losses, is because the Qing DELIBERATELY weakened and fractured command of the military to prevent rebellions by military officers.
Coup-proofing really is the bane of any competent military.

Jake Paul posted a photo of himself on his private jet surrounded by money and guns.

One of the guns appears to have a silencer. Aren't there very strict rules for transporting those? Aren't you supposed to inform the ATF if you cross state lines with an NFA item?

ZERO round under the firing pin totally and utterly safe, no questions. Pull the trigger? cylinder rotates and fires. The next step is the Walther P99, no potential energy in striker when decocked instant DA fire then goes back to SA. All other pistols are weak slaves, the ammo drives the gun, not the gun driving the ammo. Everything else is trash

>>64673333
tbf 99% of modern handguns are completely drop-safe anyway, so a good holster would cover the last realistic eventuality. Even if you wanna rock a single action and be a cowboy, you can get those with transfer bars.

>>64673432
BFR, as mentioned, though high pressured bottlenecked cartridges in revolvers tend to have problems with the case pushing back out of the chamber and binding up the action, so you can never count on them to be trouble free.

>>64673694
Carrying on an empty chamber is a standard rule in Cowboy Action Shooting, and stems from the fact that many original (and faithful repro) Colt 1873s, and various other revolvers, just weren't drop-safe
Some cap & ball guns weren't drop-safe either, but quite a few actually had pretty good solutions for that.
I always liked the Starr's design a lot, and it had double notches for safer carrying.

Never heard of them before. There are other better-regarded companies that do UMP conversions like Black Ops and HDPS. I'd go with them first.

>>64676383
>Besides the obvious retarded stock and grip, what makes the USC so shit compared to UMPs?
USC isn't compatible with UMP mags. If you want to use hi-cap mags, you need to go for 15 round Pro-Mags (the 20 round Pro-Mags are unreliable) or the 20 round Hera mags (reliable but rare and expensive).

If you want to use UMP mags in your USC, you need to plastic-weld your USC magwell to be bigger and open-up the magwell slot in the upper to accept them. And if you're willing to do all that, you might as well just swap the USC lower for an UMP lower and do a full UMP conversion anyways.

>USCs converted to UMPs, and UMPs built off of S5 receivers
USCs converted to UMPs work great. I've heard mixed things about UMPs built off of American receivers.
