Pistol related but last question thread died a while ago. Are all 1911 .45 barrels interchangeable with all other 1911 models? I've got a Kimber and want a threaded barrel for it and I'm wondering if I should just get a Kimber barrel for it.

Most use a "bushing" style barrel, this is just like the original GI design. There are also bushingless "bull" and "cone" barrels that are common on aftermarket 1911's. Most likely your Kimber uses the standard bushing type barrel. You don't need to buy Kimber brand. But do know that 1911's aren't like ARs or Glocks where you can just drop in an aftermarket part and expect the gun to work, hand-fitting is commonly required on 1911's.
I've got a .45 can, is it worth buying an entirely new one dedicated to 9mm and 300blk? Its an Octane 45 HD and they say its rated to take both. Also 10mm but I dont have anything for that.
In Fallout it seems like the US military was using both 5mm and 5.56mm at the same time in parallel roles in two different assault rifles. Both rifles were said to be old and on the cusp of being replaced which implies the dual situation had been like this for a while. How would it be plausible for such a situation to arise? You'd think between 5mm and 5.56mm the military would eliminate the inefficiency and just go with one.

>>64674785There are ramped, unramped and bushing vs bull barrels. In the ramped category there is further seperation between para/clark/(lissner) and wilson/nowlin. Para/clark is rounded on the bottom lug/ramp whereas wilson/nowlin is straight. All barrels can either then be fit for a bushing to fit between it and the slide or to be bull barrel cut for direct slide contact. So make sure to get the same kind of barrel plus thread and be aware you may need to fit it to frame and slide.
