Seems like NATO is under alot of flak lately. Let's share some fun/memorable stories about joint-trainings, deployments together, exchanging MRE's and good banter to reminisce about the good old times.

After a year long absence, the journey of the Busta Move(s) and her intrepid crew continues! Previous installments: https://desuarchive.org/k/search/subject/Target%20for%20Today/>what the fuck is thisTarget for Today is a solitaire tabletop game (translated to digital for these threads) covering the USAAF's bombing campaigns in Europe throughout the Second World War. With options for choosing everything from which Air Force, Bombardment Wing and Squadron you fly with all the way to which submodel of aircraft you'll be flying, the game is rife with detail. Over a year ago we began the journey of the Busta Move, a B-24 of the 15th Air Force (49th Bomb Wing, 451st Bomb Group, 725th Squadron). While perilous, our crew has done far better than the ill-fated men of the B-17s that shared the Big Nigger titles, with our current permanent losses consisting of:>Copilot Harris>Radio Operators Sean Bean and Poncho>Waist gunners Fanculo, Danielson and Sam Hyde, with another (Lefty Navel) being medically dischargedOur bombing results, however, have been much less impressive: out of eleven combat missions the Busta Move has been forced to abort due to combat damage six times, and on a mission to soften up Anzio for Allied landings we missed the target entirely. Our 10th mission, Milan, was another abort but the flight back was a nightmare. By the time the Busta Move returned to base, she had lost two engines, both main landing gear, all of the twin .50 cals had been rendered inoperable, the entire oxygen system had failed, one wing was barely attached, half the crew was wounded and dozens of other minor hits had been taken. That plane was retired and the Busta Move II was put into action, already having completed one mission. For now, strap your parachutes on, grab a K-ration and lets go bomb vaguely near strategic targets!
Zone two suffers us no German fighters, and our flight back to base is uneventful. We pull off the runway, get Fook some band-aids for his boo-boo and see about getting ourselves a new bombsight. Waiting for the rest of our squadron to return, we happily note that no planes are missing from the formation, although a couple appear to have suffered some damage. Those two are Cash and Carry, which took a series of hits about the time we turned around, and Bunk Buster, damaged on the return flight.Regrettably, despite no flak cloud cover mostly obscured the target and our squadron's second attempt on Piombino was no more successful than the first. >Cash and Carry: 2 damage>Bunk Buster: 2 damage>Squadron bomb run: Off Target>Bomb Accuracy: 0%
>>65034240Surely third time's the charm
>>65033184WHO FUCKING CARES ABOUT THE BOMBSIGHT PICTURE IN MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR'S REPORT!?! DUMP THE BOMBS!
The command staff of the Busta Move's squadron hated trains with a passion, but our commanders are a bit more refined, as they proved by giving us a third mission to bomb a picturesque Italian seaside town - Santo Stefano. Our position is the low squadron bites, but at least we dont have to be lead bomber or the dreaded tail-end Charlie. Fighter escorts will not be as good, rating only as "fair" for our mission. And since OP likes to dig into little bits of history, here's a list of some of the actual bombers that flew a mission to bomb this harbor on April 28, 1944:>Gentile Annie>Yum Yum>Miss Oklahoma>Boomerang>Duchess (The)>Little De-Icer>Vivie>Spirit of Spokane>Der Flittermouse>Flame McGoon>Good Time Charlie>Reluctant VirginComment too long. Lets say that, hypothetically, you are a military commander and have to plan an operation to retrieve nuclear material deep within hostile territory. Also, the nuclear material is under tons of rubble, so you probably would have to send some heavy machinery to do the digging. How would you plan this operation? The more details the better.
>>65034473The penetrator bombs should have had a VX/Sarin/Novichok component. If it takes you a decade to clear the rubble and tunnels before you get to the good stuff and $25 million in decon procedures BEFORE you get to the crushed Uranium Hexafloride storage and the nightmare of dealing with Hexafloride residue that is a decent outcome.
>>65034473Keep bombing the rubble until nuclear material is uncovered or sufficiently dispersed.
>>65034473>retrieve just irradiate the bomb site and any entrances too it. Say the material leaked or some shit. There is nuclear material under there right? I'm not being lied to again by little st james aficionados?

>>65034514SAI 6 is literally 1/2 price on eurooptic but they're kinda obscure so not a lot to go on. c_does liked it. I'm playing around with one and it's pretty flat but all I have to compare with is my credo 1-6 and slx 1-6 nova which are both SFP and flat enough to shoot both eyes open at 100 yards.Just leave the killflash in the box though, no fault to tenebraex, a 24mm objective is just too small to use without a ton of light.
The picture is terrible but you get the idea. Why aren't there any beefier versions of this to sue as a snap caps or dummy round? It would make dry fire practice a lot more entertaining.
>>65034220I like this idea, but I'm a little worried about it not absorbing enough of the force to do it's job as a dummy round/snap cap on a revolver. Was originally figuring there would be some seer inside that a nubbin would get smacked into to bend the seer otu of the way and release the spring. Just using the existing energy from the hammer spring probably makes more sense becuase it's probably stronger spring then what would be in the round anyways....Here is what I came up with using your idea. The orange piece is shown upside down, the nubbin on the top would go through the bottom cutout and be where the primer would be. Not shown here is some extra material I will add inside the case to act as a retension for the orange dumbell shaped object (it's that shape so I can make it retained, and I will have it print in place inside of the casing. It will have just enough movement to transfer the energy to the wedged in projectile.
>>65033534You're in the wrong fuckin place if you don't think guns are fun, faggot
A "dry fire" system that uses a primer per shot has always been a dream solution. I've only been reloading since 2012, but small pistol primers have always been about the same price as .22LR/round, and even in North Dakota, the winters aren't harsh enough for me to spend time reloading wax bullets on centerfire brass just to simulate shooting indoors.
>>65033527You can use beeswax/paraffin blender to make wax bullets to shoot with just a primer. My dad used to do that with his .357 so we could shoot indoors when I was little. Make a layer of wax about 1/2 in deep in a tin, then push primed casings into it, the brass will cut a little slug. Accurate enough to have fun across the basement.
>>65033605You can buy wax projectiles for cowboy action shooting and do this

>>65028574Sorry I got completely mixed up, I meant blackpowder as the propellant and matchhead sticks as the primer, for example the hammer (or nail if it's a pipe shotgun) would be slammed into the matchstick head causing a spark which would then ignite the gunpowder, Could this possibly work?
>>65028533>So we have these things called Zippo flints....>Assume you could attach them to something in a reliable repeatable way, something which upon interacted with would cause sparks....Congrats on independently inventing the wheellock ignition half a millennium after it was popular!Cigarette lighters using these "flints" are all based on the wheel lock mechanism used in 15th century European firearms. The mechanism was built around a serrated wheel with a spring-loaded arm pushing a chunk of iron pyrite (fool's gold) against it.The wheel was mounted on an axle and wrapped around that axle was a small length of chain connected to a very powerful spring. The trigger mechanism kept the wheel from spinning until the shooter pulled the trigger. The wheel would rotate 3/4 of a turn, rubbing against the pyrite and producing sparks.Fancy versions had manual safeties and pan-covers that opened automatically as the shooter pulled the trigger, so the guns could be safely carried ready to go without spilling the priming powder or accidentally discharging.Reloading involved using a big wrench to turn the wheel back against spring pressure, rather than just pulling back a hammer. This type of mechanism was the first that could be practically carried around loaded and ready to go, and caused all the important people in Europe to panic because suddenly assassins could be carrying around hidden pistols. This mechanism was VERY expensive and complicated to build, so they were only every used on really fancy civilian hunting guns for rich people, and military arms issued to elite cavalry units.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>65032264I wish I could own an ornate old antique wheellock pistol.
>>65032264Yes. I am aware of wheellocks. The question in my mind was more about using flints to enable using modern firing mechanisms. Although I see no reason why wheellocks couldn't make a comeback in DIY circles, it's just that it sucks big time to apply that concept to something like pipe shotgun. The wheellock system requires a touch hole and priming that touch hole. My take was about containing it INSIDE the cartridge as to have everything ready for rapid firing. No anon. They're not one and the same.
>>65034084You might consider trying to use something like quartz to make a spark via piezoelectric effect when it gets whacked with a striker…. Of course I might just be fondly remembering the cross time engineer….

Presenting one demonstrates that they are not actually the smartest person in the room, which generally results in cognitive dissonance and name calling. Thus, you could discuss why a bunch of Slavs slapfighting each other halfway around the world is not something that the vast majority of Americans give a fuck about (and the ones that do only do so in response to propaganda, and in 2026 still can't find it on a map), but since that opinion doesn't fit into a child's simple view of the world, that simply makes you a Russian to them.>>65028641>muh iranYeah, we fucked that one up. >>65032769The great firewall is reasonably effective at blocking communications between china and the rest of the internet. Note that reasonably is not the same as completely. A moderately determined Chinese citizen can easily access international news services. In large part the firewall relies on fear and ambiguity around how it works to dissuade people from even attempting to access forbidden material. It is also far less effective at blocking communications inside China. So Chinese who can access outside news sources can easily spread the news to the whole country.Consider that China is much less censorious that North Korea, and even in North Korea there is some access to foreign media and news. Also, while their media services are all state controlled, they are aware of this, particularly the ones most likely to actually start shit.

Since the Iran war is so controversial, let's think about a war absolutely nobody would have a problem with. This morning, the President of the United States has tasked you with preforming a great service to humanity: The invasion of India. What happens to them after the war is up to you, if you'd like to genocide them, balkanize them or maybe try to make them into a functioning country or whatever. The objectives from the POTUS are fairly straight forward.>The destruction of the Indian military>The destruction or control of their nuclear weapons (They do have a nuclear triad so, it's important that's nipped in the bud before any issues arise)>The Pacification of the Indian civilian population. Through any means necessary.ITT we talk about how we would go about destroying India and what we'd do after they've been defeated. You can go about it anyway you want, not just a military campaign - be it a direct intervention; inciting a civil war through espionage or economically.
