Is anyone developing drone shield?>drones with proximity fuses that go off when they see something moving quickly towards them) (or something like that) and explosives basically just make an bubble around the ship.>drones explode whenever they see any incoming missiles>move out of the way for outgoing>go back to the shit to recharge, and get replaced by another one when they do it>alternatively, you could use tethered drones., but that has other issues, i would thinkWhy aren't we funding this? It seems like a great counter to ASMs

With the "Drone Age" quickly coming upon us, what is even the answer to them in warfare? I'd never want to be a soldier but even now, I'd want to be one even less. If all it is is just you waiting around to get dunked by some pencil neck playing with a controller, what is the point? I sometimes hate the turn that the evolution of warfare takes because it just ends up making things even more miserable for everyone. Granted, it is warfare sure. Anyway, what is the answer for drones in warfare and how do you expect things to sort of evolve around drones? Like when tanks first hit the battlefield, what options were made to address them? What about when planes become widely used in combat etc?
>>64339469Yes but with guns
>>64339421Flak was inaccurate and wasteful as shit, almost more of a psychological deterrent than a real weapon providing effective fire on target. There already are modern AA solutions for drones, and massed WWII flak spam has got nothing on them.
>>64339397There isn't one short of squad level automated hard kill counter measures. Everything else is going to be your typical move counter move evolution of warfare. Typical FPV quadcopter "drones" are just a currently convenient and cheap PGM that's both useful on the squad level and very scalable. That's an idea more than a single platform and once technology reaches the point of making that viable then the cats out of the bag. You might make X type of drone mostly obsolete but a work around will be found.>>64339421Worst idea, modern gun based AA would make sense as it's cheap but needs the automation and sensors for effective use, manual units from the olden days would be eaten for breakfast by drones coming in low and fast. Not to mention the whole thermal vision thing, good fucking luck at night.>>64339434There are no such physical countermeasures currently, unless you mean that one untested proposed one from that webm posted the other day in which case lmao. Jamming is a good idea until literally anybody figures out a reasonably cheap radar seeking drone and starts mixing them in to standard drone warfare
For the anti drone bunch. We dont care, refrain from wasting our time and yours.
>>64339421That's just not true. WWII era flak utterly lacks the means to detect drones effectively, especially with how relatively fast, low flying, and quiet they are compared to traditional aircraft. WWII era flak was also INCREDIBLY clunky and hard to aim, even getting the gun on target was a challenge with some of the systems they had. See: crank based AA being borderline useless even at the time. Flak is a decent stopgap until lasers mature, but it really does need to be;A) Organic down to the squad level. It needs to be a system that can be mounted to practically anything because the advantage of drones is low cost = you can afford to have them everywhere and fish for holes in coverage. Which means you need to not have holes in coverage, which means you need ubiquitous AA. B) Have very good sensors. Ideally highly automated sensors that filter out as much possibility of human error and reaction time as possible. You don't have the luxury of spotting incoming at some distant radar horizon so your reaction time need to be damn near instant.

What are your hottest handgun takes? 96% of modern handguns have unparalleled reliability and accuracy. Almost every gun owner will never outshoot whatever they buy. "Gun feel" and trigger quality are overrated; your gun spends almost all of it's time in a case or your underwear drawer or taped to the back of your toilet. The only thing that matters about your handgun is if you carry it and train with it.

do you carry a medical/trauma kit in your BOB/combat kit? in my smallish backpack, i've put together a few things for major wounds. i also have a larger duffel bag which i consider my real BOB that has some emergency/freeze dried food, a mylar blanket, bottled water, paracord, some spare ammo, lighters, other non combat essentials. but if i were ever on the move, i would probably carry my backpack and leave my duffel bag somewhere safe so my immediately important things go in my backpack.>8 rolls of 3"x36" gauze for wound packing, individually wrapped>another large clean cotton rag for multipurpose use like water filtration (plus a lifestraw for actual purification), wound packing, cleaning, etc.>6 individually wrapped gauze pads for cleaning, wound packing, treating minor wounds>4 packs of bleedstop hemostatic agent>1 CAT tourniquet (not pictured, i moved it into my backpack from my main BOB after pic taken)>plastic bags for multipurpose use, protecting things from water, makeshift chest seal>3 rolls of adhesive wrap>small roll of medical tape, breathable, durable, and easily torn by hand>1 large bowie knife, 1 smaller pocket knife>1 swiss army knife with scissors and other tools>paper and sharpie for any note taking>antihistamines and nsaids in case there is no immediate medical services available. ibuprofen strictly for injuries that involve limited bleeding like a simple bone fracture>few packs of alcohol swabs for disinfecting>small sewing kit in an altoid tin which could double down as emergency suture as a last resortComment too long. >>64339413>I could never really grasp the whole 70/40 grip thing people go on about. Is it just basically a firm grip with both hands but not to the point of shaking or what?you experiment to figure out which method results in minimal movement.get a coin or spent shell stick it on top of the slide or frontsight and practice pulling the trigger. if it falls off you failed. dont worry about the sights.once you figured out a method that minimizes movement then you worry about sight alignment.change your hand placement or what part of your finger is touching the trigger just experiment to you find something that works for you since all hands and guns are different sizes.

What chance do they stand? It appears that the Turks are going to support the Syrian/HTS offensive to destroy the Kurds as the government has already starting shelling Tishreen Dam.
>>64339293So essentially, the current leader is a Western-backed moderate (in relative terms) that was selected in order to avoid radical Islamists from taking over after the relatively moderate authoritarian regime was overthrown who relies on radical Islamists for manpower, and he doesn't yet have enough power to actually stop them from doing anything. That decade long civil war and refugee crisis really looks like it was worth it now!

>30mm grenade launcher>mag fedHoly God-Emperor of Mankind, I fuck kneel.
>>64339263It's probably to act as a makeshift forward grip since the recoil on this thing is likely significant
>>64339263With 30mm you can fit at least 5 rounds in the mag. Drums are awkward to store: in a firefight you can drop them, but then they're gone, and at ranges dropping them constantly probably doesn't help reliability.
>>64339263The thing with grenade launchers is that you'll have half a dozen different kinds of grenades and you'll probably want to swap between them before each magazine is empty. Having a bunch of color coded 5-10 round mags makes more sense than having a huge magazine you can't stow easily.
>>64339450Makes me think something like>Open Bolt grenade launcher, doesn't strip a "bullet" from the mag until you fire>This way you can swap mags and grenade types without needing to clear the chamber
