New Abrams just dropped
Prediction on operational range? 600km now?
>>64760411I heard its similar distance as current Abrams but halving of the on board fuel storage
>>64759832Drop the middle seat crewman and make the screens bigger. OMFV is already using a 2man crew.
>>64760459Makes sense. That crew capsule is really eating up the volume formerly used for the forward fuel tanks, doubly if they’re devoting more space for armor around the capsule.
>>64760496That was the plan with FCS. It didn't work then, and probably won't work for another decade or two, at which point it'll be the gunner that gets replaced by AI, not the TC. But, while a computer might be able to shoot clear targets marked by the TC today, I doubt it can handle all of the decision-making that the gunner has to do, particularly when something goes wrong and he has to adapt.

>>64760231Besides the PSA krinks what other ak even use 300?
>>64760231If price isn't a factor anymore, it's just what you like shooting more. AKfags will generally prefer 7.62x39, ARfags will generally prefer .300blk, it is what it is. If (you) think it's worth it, I'd say try it out at least. I'd personally not purchase a .300blk AK, I don't trust PSA for theirs, but I'd consider building one with a Galil bolt, AKM trunnion and use Galil mags for it.>>64760278Roll your own, same case as 6.5 Grendel for AKs after the Molot import ban. There's a few companies and smiths that'll cut a barrel to whatever profile you want, or you can learn to use a lathe and DIY one from a blank if you've got space and capital.
>>64760278I know it's blasphemy to say ITT but I was thinking about setting my AK aside as a backup and getting something way more modern like a WLVRN. I still don't like ARs, can't even fold the stock and that flimsy feeling of how the upper and lower don't connect is gross.
>>64760337Actually, fuck that 300blk Krink looks good. Since 300 only needs about an 8" barrel to get decent velocities, I might consider that. I want something short for innabuildings but even with a bullpup you need a 10+ inch barrel or it won't even clear the receiver.Didn't even know that option existed ty for the unintentional suggestion.

Why wouldn't something like pic related work fine as a "do everything" gun for a person living in the densely forested hills of Appalachia, where the power and ballistic advantage of a rifle simply isn't necessary?>plinking will be good fun with the naturally subsonic .45>definitely suitable for home defense>easy enough to fit in a backpack, or take the can off and carry it on your person>get some .45 Super for killing deer or hogs, or mess around with round ball loadings for taking small game or for pest controlYes, it's true that rifles can be had for dirt cheap these days. And it's also true that there is no real reason to limit yourself to just one gun, especially a handgun. But in an autistic min-max fantasy where you literally can only own one gun and it has to be able to be carried 24/7/365, does a suppressed .45 automatic make sense? The only real downside I see here is that this is not the best option for summertime concealed carry in hot climates.
>>64759935>I still haven't posted my 5.7
>>64759781>tiny and pathetically weakThat's every handgun cartridge, though
>>6475978122 hornet is a great revolver round. I personally prefer 22 rem jet though. The 53 is really versatile.>>64760021>could have been killed with a .22 LR or .22 Mag.Absolutely. Now imagine having a gun that could be both in one gun yet with drastically better projectiles. Hence the Five-seveN. Worth pointing out that what wasn't a legal cartridge for that WMA was .357, 9mm, or any of the big bore revolver rounds. Also note he wasn't attacked by bears but if he would have been a 5.7 would've been the only option that wouldn't have resulted in a felony trespassing charge. I guess I can concede that a 9mm/big bore revolver would definitely be more effective at stopping bear attacks in this location since you'll never be able to access the property with one lmao.

With modern lasers, capacitors, and power plants how many 500 lb JDAMs could be shot down if all were targeting the laser?Let's assume 2 kilometers altitude, 1000 km/h speed.Could they even do 1?
What's the mechanism a laser disables a JDAM? Fry its fuse? Its laser guidance package? Detonate its explosives? Do modern US bombs have explosives that explode when they get hot?
It's been talked to death why space fighters are impractical but let's say the stupid rich dictator of the third world asteroid colony is dead set on having his fighter jets in space. What would a "realistic" space fighter look like? What do you have to consider about space as a medium?
>>64760301Not just being a jet plane in space for starters I guess. Its a totally different environment, lack of gravity and needing to worry about radiating heat and the other rigors of the space environment.
>>64760301>fighters Are actually very practical, especially as drones.
>>64760301>realistic "fighter"A drone swarm control ship. The drones would have a bunch of missiles.>designate targets>upload to swarm>GTFO and let drones do their thingThat's what space fighters are going to be. A human telling a prelaunched and standby drone swarm to wake up, lock onto something, and do their job. They don't even need to look like atmospheric drones. You can pack missiles, terminal guidance, and reaction thrusters in a cylinder and have it sitting there in sleep mode with either a RTG or solar backup to keep it awake enough to receive a signal for years. Just launch a few more every so often to account for natural attrition.>but we want dogfights in spaceNever going to happen. Individual fighter craft engaging each other is ridiculous at exoatmospheric distances. It's going to be Macross missile spam forever.
You're tasked with building a kit to help Iranian resistance against the Ayatollah regime, the kits you build will be airdropped into Iranian territory in large dufflebags and then picked up by chosen operatives. You have $3k per kit to try to arm an light resistance guerrilla fighter, you can only source items from the US civilian market. At minimum you should provide a rifle, a pistol, body armor, essential accessories and ammunition for both, as well as any survival or tactical implement you see necessary. What kind of stuff do you pick?
>>64760107And apparently their own civilians too, apparently anything goes as long as it's not being used against an oppressive islamic theocracy or other dictatorship. But you showed me a video of someone saying exactly what the government told them to say while not getting shot so clearly the ayatollah is based and it's all the kikes and americans who are in bodybags, right?
>>64757950>At minimum you should provide a rifle, a pistol, body armor, essential accessories and ammunition for both, as well as any survival or tactical implement you see necessary. You'd do either a pistol or a rifle but not both. You'd also probably omit body armor since no one there would be conditioned for operating in it, access to traume care for shots outside the plates is minimal, and no one has drilled for plates-forward movement or shooting or the aggression necessary for armor to tactically pay off. Plus there's no artillery etc to justify non-tactical usage as passive protection. So basically it's 3k for a weapon, magazines and load carriage. A cheap SA AR15 carbine from PSA is about $600. Throw on a chinesium red dot or LPVO for another $200. Another $100 for mounts, batteries, screwdriver. PSA does a deal with 7 magpull mags and a rifle bag for $100. Call it 70 CPR for 1000 rounds of old fashioned M855.That leaves $1300 for load carriage, water bottles, whatever. Easily done. Throw a few packs of gum in every kit and wish them luck.

Would going to an Appleseed course be worth it? I've never had any instruction in shooting and there's a few coming up within driving distance so the cost would be low. I'd use a 10/22 with an LVPO.It kind of seems like it's all old people and kids in the basic courses, though admittedly, that's probably better than getting there and finding a bunch of spergs my own age trying to look cool. I doubt I'll find a more accessible form of training but I'm not sure if this is the best format. Like how much is shooting and how much is just listening to the instructors give a history lesson?I also understand they put a lot of emphasis on sling use but the USGI sling they use seems pretty clunky from some of the videos I've seen so I may never swap to it but I do think having someone actually watching and give me feedback might help, especially if it's assumed I have no knowledge upon arrival.Anyone that's been to one want to give your impressions?
>>64755698Some of the videos I've seen have you flipping the gun over or clamping it between your legs to adjust the strap and it seems inconvenient. I might put it on my 10/22 or a sporter but I like front carry for my AR and it looks like the USGI is over the shoulder only.>>64755725I'd definitely learn some things but I've been mentally tallying the cost of stuff like rain gear (the class is in April and it'll almost certainly be raining) and cases/bags/electronic earpro and I'm looking more than that in gear alone if I want to be decently prepared. But cost is less of an issue than me being an unsociable shut-in.>>64756426I get an almond extract flavor from apple seeds but I've been clean for a while now.
>>64756426>Apparently cherry pits are extremely poisonousThey're poisonous but not "extremely" imo, for typical red/black cherries you'd probably have to eat 7-10 pits (and chew them, swallowing whole causes no complications) before you'd start to get even symptoms on average. It'd bad for you but there's not THAT much amygdalin in them and not 100% of it will get catalyzed by beta-glucosidase into hydrogen cyanide, and because it's getting generated in the body as the amygdalin gets digested/catalyzed it won't be all at once. You'd start to feel it around 0.5mg/L of blood and probably be dead around 3 mg/L, so there is some exposure range.I'd certainly avoid doing that, nothing to mess around with and chronic low exposure might not cause anything immediately noticeable but can cause some real issues over the course of years/decades. But if you weren't eating enough of them and don't do it anymore doubt it'll ever be a problem for you.
>>64756990>I've been mentally tallying the cost of stuff like rain gear (the class is in April and it'll almost certainly be raining) and cases/bags/electronic earpro and I'm looking more than that in gear alone if I want to be decently prepared. You're gonna need most of that to go shooting anyway, man. That's not class prep, that's general touching-grass prep. All you need to do to pay it off is go hiking or find some BLM land nearby to practice the principles you learn in the class.
>>64753932I thought it was worth it enough to go to a second one but not a third. History parts were alright, well delivered by the volunteers at the ones I went to. Felt like about 1/3 shooting, 1/3 instruction, 1/3 history and lunch was included. There are slings other than the USGI that can be used for loop-style support (Rifle-Craft RS-2 pictured) or you can use a modern two-point around your back just fine. Magnification would have made it way easier. Bring water or gatorade, eyesight is the first thing to suffer when dehydrated.
>>64756990>flipping the gun over or clamping it between your legs to adjust the strapThis means the strap was installed incorrectly. It is adjustable with one hand if installed correctly.
