I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

I agree with the sentiment but I think you're still misunderstanding the situation a bit, turning explorer into "tournament pioneer" was feasible not just because the most important cards were already on the client, it was also because pioneer is the nonrotating format with the smallest card pool, there are only so many cards not on the client currently that could suddenly become competitive and force them to include them in a hurry, vintage isn't just the power 9 + banned legacy cards, it's the entire 30 year history of magic, the premise of turning timeless into "tournament vintage" is just completely beyond their scope

historic exists because the timing of introducing pioneer was not coordinated with the arena team and the game needed a nonrotating format to deal with rotation and timeless exists because we kept getting cards banned in historic without having anywhere else to play them, neither of these formats were created with the idea of eventually transitioning into other formats, they're just results of arena having to deal with all the stuff they keep shoving into standard sets

AC is far more reliable than all that illusion stuff.
Looking at just the demons, already by CR 6 it begins to drop off with Babau who have See Invisibility and can spam Dispel against your illusions.
By CR 13 with stuff like Glabrezu many creatures start getting True seeing, blind fight, tremor-sense, life-sense.
one burst of Faerie Fire and your blurs and displacement do nothing. Some DMs let spells like Grease and Web place the target too if aimed to engulf the form rather than on the ground.

Demon Circles abd soul hierarchy weren't a thing after Exalted changed Primordial metaphysical nature to one of Yozi.

Before that happened, Primordial souls were closer to only untouched unmodified Primordial we know about, Gaia, and her souls are Elementals. Souls who are part of her yet also separate from her and eachother.
Even Autochton changed hims status as Primordial as he turned himself into Autochtonia and his souls into gods and spirits of that world.

Faceclaim for the crippled elder/Haoran's father. So xianxia style, old looking (most cultivators don't look old, so that part is technically optional, but I think him having aged significantly due to falling multiple cultivation realms is appropriate), preferably crippled and blind (Body 0 and Perception 0, but with techniques to make up for parts of that), outfit either cheap or dishevelled/damaged higher quality one, no weapons etc, preferably some thunder motifs. That's more of an ideal, but stuff below it might also be acceptable.

It could be worse. IIRC, depending on your country of origin, it's 2-3 years or so of inactivity before they blast your account. Given that things like Discord are usually used with great frequency by its users, like many other social media platforms, it would be pretty unusual for someone to completely stop using it for actual years. Generally, they would either have completely given up on the platform, been unable to use it for some reason (perhaps imprisonment), or deceased.

Thanks for the advice, at its core I think I just need more experience with the system to be a bit more fair to myself with the TNs. Like, TN 12 for a skill check inherently feels low to me but that's supposed to be a very difficult task, even for a pro. Like a fucking idiot I'm treating these TNs like they're d20 and it's actually 2d6, and I'm naturally inclined to go high because I still feel kind of like I'm "getting away" with something because it's solo. I'll probably get over it once I get a few more games in; thanks for the sanity check.

On a totally different note, how do you all handle extended social scenes? I've discovered I need to lean off the oracle a bit and that I probably don't need to consult it for every little thing, but I do still feel kind of trapped in a lot of talky scenes in my game so far. It's been a lot of "does this new NPC that the oracle introduced know anything about plot hook X? No, but... they want to talk about plot hook y" and I feel like it's burning me out a bit. Just interested in hearing some different perspectives on talkier scenes/games.

Exactly, I felt like a massive idiot when I realized I was basically dooming my PCs except on boxcars since the system I'm using is stingy by nature with any sort of bonuses (even a +3 at first level would be very fortunate and would require a PC's best trained skill, their best attribute, and possibly some extra situational bonus). The real problem has been the natural urge to feel like I'm going to easy on the PCs since I'm technically controlling them too, but I'll get over it.

I'll give that article a read. I'm not sure if I want to incorporate actual mechanics or oracles, but I am angling to find what works for me in terms of balancing "the NPC says X" and actual conversation. Right now I'm very much abstracting it, and it feels a bit lazy.

That's easy. Wizards have big tits for storing mana, so they tend to be round, melon-like to maintain the least surface area for the volume. Clerics have big tits for milking, so they have almond-like shapes, easy to grab and suckle on.

How does this look for blade wear so far? I'm trying to ad some actual age to a Wight King's sword. So far I just cut into it with one scissor blade and cleaned/widened them a bit with folded sandpaper. Any suggestions for making look better and older would be great since this is the first time I'm trying to add damage on the actual plastic.

You can use your plastic glue to smooth out any spots that are still a little rough after sanding. Can also glue little bits of sand on some parts to really build up a corroded texture to paint later as well.
