>What is Exalted?
An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them.
Start here:http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/

>That sounds cool, how can I get into it?
Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

>Gosh that was fun. How do I find a group?
Roll20 and the Game Finder General here on /tg/. good luck

>How is the new edition?
Same same, but different, but still same
>Is it at least playable?
Sure, the core elements work. The problem is that this is still ACKS, so it working =/= being good
>I remember original being only marginally better
This is marginally better than original. It's still extremely bloated and very poorly edited at the same time. It could easily drop third of the page count without any impact on the mechanics.
Macris badly needs an editor

All in all, it's a thoroughly average and milquetoast 5/10 heartbreaker that tries to appeal both to normalfags and OSR crowd at once, failing to be good for either. But at this point, it doesn't matter, ACKS own fandom is cult-like, so it's a product for the acolytes.

in motm they gave goblins a fey connection so hobgoblins have fey gift (help as bonus action and can give additional movement, thp or disadvantage)
i have an idea for a motm hobgoblin glamour bard that uses feywild magic to fight the forces of maglubyet, the additional movement options can also be used as a battlefield commander which hobgoblins are known for

>Right, I get that, but explicitly why do you want them to have this unparalleled flexibility? Not a criticism, mind you, just something to think about.
Because shields are cool.

Swords have lots of masteries associated with them (sap, vex, graze) because each is a different weapon. 5e doesn't really have more than 1 kind of shield, baring some magic ones, so the weapon masteries let you have a sense you're using different kinds of shields. Push/topple could feel like a heavy tower shield, nick and vex are affiliated with fast and light weapons so you might feel like you're fighting with a buckler. Cleave or graze can give you the impression that your shield is bladed or maybe has a spike etc.
>There's this implicit "intent" you have behind the feat, that it could or would only be used by fighters.
It's a feat and fighters have extra feats, so that's understandable. But any barb, paladin, or ranger who wants extra AC for survivability and a bonus action attack has it available. Paladin and ranger have access to two weapon fighting, and barbs have rage damage so they don't fall off too bad.
The sword and board fantasy is so iconic, so I'm just let down that there isn't much to it, and locking it behind a single fighter subclass didn't appeal to me.

A younger character who just turned an appropriate age for adventuring, who had a spark of magical ability but came from a tiny fishing town of around 500 people. Went off to learn magic from a traveling wizard who turned out to be a bunch of fairies under a disguise spell that trained him wrong as a funny joke

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, Judge Dredd, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void, Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenotactics, Xenos Rampant...

Do you think that class-based RPGs should try to accommodate the "generic wizard who does generic magical things" class concept, or do you think it is too generic an idea, and that the game should force the player to narrow it down?

Putting aside the very obvious example of D&D 5(.5)e and its wizard class, D&D 4e, Pathfinder 2e, and 13th Age 2e all have a wizard that specializes in a mix of raw damage blasting and hard-control debuffs (with the occasional buff). Daggerheart likewise has a wizard class. An indie title, level2janitor's Tactiquest, has the Arcanist as a catch-all magical caster with a broad repertoire of spells suitable for different occasions.

Other games have a different approach. Draw Steel has the elementalist, focused on the physicality of elemental magic; and the talent, a psionicist who specializes in more intangible effects like time manipulation and telepathy. Tom Abbadon's ICON has no "generic wizard who does generic magical things" in its noncombat classes or its combat classes, specifically to force the player to narrow the concept down, whether for noncombat functions or for tactical combat role.

So Pentex is trying to build shit but the Woofs keep killing as many people as they can get away with, potentially with the New Impergium becoming a nationwide policy.

The Progenitors are also involved with preservation efforts, so they might benefit from the existing biology for their projects. The Syndicate is trying to see how to make some money from the place without pissing off the Progenitors too much or giving the Dream Speakers leverage with what little tourism there is, presuming that the Indians still have mages among them.

And if it is say, before Chaos Factor, Samuel Haight is there. In pursuit of a legendary Mage and a legendary realm.
If it is in modern times, Progenitors and Iteration X started to clean up the place.

I forgot to mention:

BPB = Base Psionic Bonus. I took a lot of inspiration from the Trailblazer 3rd party book with their unification of the Magic using classes and assigned each class with a Base Psionic Bonus to address a similar disconnect between Psionic Classes and Non-Psionic Classes. Basically, BPB is (Effective) Manifester Level and vice versa.

This experiment has actually been run in both the Ravenloft and Dark Sun settings. The answer? The vast majority of people end up evil as shit instead of just some of them.
I don't know why the evil gods even bother. They can just sit back an let the entropy of the universe do all the work grinding down morality and spend more of their time gaming.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.

By using the standard travel rules and chances of getting lost. What system are you using? If you want to cut down on them getting lost you can let them hire NPC guides or give them some FOE navigation skill. Or just let them have map of the general area

Assuming by "interesting" you mean varied--odd mountains, swamps, hills (and glades, lakes, waterfalls, dead forests, etc.) should honestly be enough. But if not you can always add in more variation by having "dense" and "light" woodland.
