>>97826168I'm not seeing any anti lifelink cards when I'm not playing lifelink. Matchup engine can be just evil. Even if we drop tin hats and assume everyone is human, there is certainly something very fishy with it. I had a perfect anti-mice deck when Monstrous Rage and Heartfire were the rage. Everyone was playing mono red at that time. I played a lot of mono red against my other decks. After several wins, I practically didn't match up against mono red against my counter deck. I got a vast majority of mono black and Overlords that I was bad against. It's as if they actively push certain decks with their matchup engine.

Writing General: 'psychopomps' editionWelcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. >>97819172The man seems to think about this for a few seconds, then mentally shakes himself and moves on. The conversation continues, mostly about travel; the man had journeyed far and wide in his military career, and the rider... well, the rider had been *everywhere*. He knew the best tavern in every city the man had ever been to; he didn't know them quite as well as the worse taverns, but he could still talk at length about the quality of the cooks, the beer, and the clientele. He appreciated quiet drinkers; less work for him. Being rushed off his feet with plague victims, and then having to hurry over to the other side of town because some fool had started a bar fight over nothing but spilled beer... well, it wasn't his place to judge, but sometimes he had a few choice words for the participants. The man keeps his mouth shut at this point; now that it was all over and there was time to get some perspective, he wasn't entirely sure this whole battle was, in the grand scheme of things, any more noble than your average tavern brawl. The rider also knew the castle out in the hinterlands where the man had taken work for a while, and the streets in the southern ports where the streetwalkers walked said streets in only gauze dresses, and the stretch of river just outside the man's hometown where the fishing was always good and the willows gave shade on a hot summers day. The rider manages to get a laugh out of the man a couple of times, with memories of places they know, common acquaintances; former acquaintances, in the man's case. Eventually though the conversation peters out, and finally the rider says, "I think the time has come for me to make a move. There is still plenty of work to be done. But I thank you for your company, sir.""I suppose so.", the man says grudgingly, and then he stretches, and gets to his feet; the rest has done him good, he feels a lot less tired now. "Probably time for me to be going as well."
>>97819182"Yes. Yes, I think it is.", the rider says. The man looks at him, puzzled, then back at the tree. His body still lies there, propped up against it. "Oh.", he says. He looks back at the rider and sees the scythe in his hand; he hadn't even seen him pick it up, he was that quick with it. "Yes.", the rider says simply."Well. What now?"Without saying anything, the rider stretches out his arm. And looking in that direction - the direction his friend just left in - the man does see a light in the distance, like a ray of sun coming down through a break in the clouds. "Ah. I don't suppose you could tell me... you know, where I'm going."Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97819194The man nods in thanks one last time to the rider, then steps away, and raises a hand in farewell. And then he turns, and sets out on the road once more; a journey he must make alone, but one that's now a little less lonely, thanks to the rider with the pale horse. The rider watches in satisfaction as the man heads towards the light. * * *After about ten paces the man stops and calls out loud enough for the rider to hear, "Those ravens are going to eat my eyes, aren't they?""I'm sorry, but yes. I'm afraid it's generally what they do.""Bugger." The man pauses. However, after a moment he shrugs, and with a lightness in his step he continues on his way. The ravens watch him go, staring at his back as it gets farther and father away. Maybe it's just curiosity, but they have the decency to wait until he's out of sight before they return to their work.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>97826060My setting's monsters are pretty far on the monstrous scale. They are inhuman, often eldritch, entirely unnatural beings that violate every rule about living creatures. They are so far removed from a normal living creature as to be incomparable. They have pseudo-flesh that isn't biological. They don't need to breath, sleep, eat, etc. They literally materialize/spawn due to ambient arcane energy concentrations being high enough rather than being born of biological processes. when slain (which takes specialized equipment or magic) they don't leave behind bodies. They instead dematerialize and turn into a glowing dust called spark, which is a essential magical component in the setting. They don't feel, they don't have biological drives, they don't really have emotions. The only thing that drives them is a compulsion to inflict pain, death, and destruction to all life capable of feeling pain. For reasons totally unknown and incomprehensible. Some have theorized that monsters were the result of a planet wide spell cast during the age of the immortals, but no one knows for sure and there is no evidence to support that theory. It's just speculation at this time. "mortals" by contrast are all biological beings. They feel, they are driven by biological imperatives, instincts, thoughts, emotions. They are made of meat. When stabbed by a normal weapon they bleed. Then they die a body if left behind. You probably get the idea. Biological beings have species, there are kinds, there are family trees. You can neatly categorize them. There are patterns to them. There is logic and reason that can be imposed on them. Monsters don't work that way in my setting. Monsters don't take on any particular form. Each instance is a unique amalgamation of wrong. A mockery of nightmares, a maddening parody of parts mashed together in sickening ways.
Do you draw your maps with hexagons or with squares?
>>97826308(A 128,000-square-mile tile on a world map is about the same size as Poland, Japan, or Ecuador.)
>>97826308Squares. Mostly because the main time I make maps its of interiors to places. So squares work better imo. I don't really do the hex craw thing. No shade on it, I am sure they are good fun, just ain't the style of game I run.

>>97813886Sorry, was banned for 3 daysWell, he started off 1st level with some Greyhawk stuff I cooked up, eventually segued into Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (horrible campaign btw), went through that and ended at it at level 13, we played 5 more adventures and they retired that character at 17th level in 3.x, which is pretty respectable. One of the few characters I ever saw personally retire instead of getting killed in action. I remember he took Hellfire Warlock as a prc but I modified it slightly. 3.x didn't need a lot of homebrewing iirc. I'd have to break out my actual notes for more details. I remember writing down his character level progress, which he changed a bit as we played ofc. That campaign lasted seven years but he went from 1 to 17 in a little over 3 years. Great player and he's become an excellent DM. His pacing is superb. He gathered some great magic items in that game and didn't recovered an Orb of Dragon kind (Black). He is, to date, the only character to ever recover one of those. I should dig out those notes. I think you guys would appreciate them.

>>97826150>1999-2000 had the Camarilla fully kick them to the curb with some clever help from the setites selling radioactive blood to the sabbatReally? Guess my mental timeline's fucked. Thinking further on it: Wormwood/Anthelios would have been visible in the sky to anyone with auspex for a couple years at that point. With such a recent takeover that would amplify the paranoia about outside attacks to 11 even among nod-denialist factions. I bet the nascent Chantry would try to shift blame onto Assamites just out of spite. Any Sabbat packs still lurking in the city might pick that as an opportunity to extend what little territory they kept hold on. Hell even Anarchs might make a play.
>>97826133>Huh, someone once told me/read somewhere that horizon realms were the exception?Horizon Realms are Otherworlds. Maybe once they were more hospitable but after the Avatar Storm, the Horizon Realms are supposed to be borderline inaccessible and not longer a home away from Earth for mages, sort of like the Umbra in W5.>The second you reach arete 6 the world is giving paradox like crazy for each second you exist there. Not really. However, more powerful mages are more likely to incur more permanent Paradox as they permanently augment themselves with vulgar enhancements and create vulgar Wonders. Such mages can't afford to linger in standard consensual reality, so it's much safer to hide in a reality zone that's more tolerant of their reality deviance. The best places for such mages to hide out were Horizon Realms but with those gone, powerful mages have to choose between living exclusively in places that pander to their paradigm, avoiding any sort of permanent vulgar magic, or constantly being at risk of massive Paradox backlash.>I understand that the main attraction is the politicking and survival on Earth, but it’s like if D&D never allowed anyone to be a spellcaster.I don't think it's quite that bad. The positive side is that the lack of a personal demi-plane for archmages to run off to means that they need to be much more careful with how they conduct themselves, that Paradox will always be an issue that can't be easily circumvented. But for people who don't like that and enjoy the interdimensional gonzo side of Mage the Ascension, you can just ignore the Avatar Storm stuff in your game. M20 makes it clear that everything connected to the Avatar Storm is totally optional.
