I think we should normalize naming characters in our tabletop games the way people name racehorses. Give me a character named Waterdeep Back Alley, they don't even have to be a rogue. Have a strike team of Urbanmechs led by a dude calling himself Strike Strike Strike issue a batchall. The Ordo Inquisitorus has Macro Cannon V investigating a chaos cult. I'm not even giving these weird ass names justice, just go full gonzo

This, it's 6v6 unit alternating grid game that has players roll dice at the start of the round and choose the values to use when they activate their unit that turn. It's heavily inspired by a game called dobbel dungeon as well as a few old d6 tabletop systems I played a long time ago.

Gen 1 is done and will probably be adjusted a bit before I make it public, some units need V4 art but if anyone has any suggestions for units for gen 2 onwards I'd greatly appreciate it!
>>
>>97170467
Looks a little bit like Mario vs Rabbits. Or X-Com.
So it is a brawl game, more like chess but tabletop.

More or less. A playtester referred to it as "chess but with abilities". I made a rough quick start rules to give an idea how things would operate before playing a round though.
>>
>>97174720
Nice a One-Page instruction.
Interesting that you take a dice pool. I dont see how you generate dices. Or is the number of the dice on the card the number you get? Or is it for activating the unit?
>>
>>97175697
A warband would be made up of 6 units. Usually they each bring 1 die to the table each but some units that are more utility might bring 2. You'll add up all of the unit's dice together to determine your total pool. The usual dice pool total would be 6 since most units only bring 1 die but a unit that brings 2 would bump that total to 7.

Why is it that so many fantasy writers make their evil cults unjoinable by anyone with a functioning brain cell? Like why would you worship Orcus, whose goal is omnicide? Why would you worship Tzeentch if he’s probably gonna screw YOU over as part of his grand plan?

What makes it so bizarre to me is that, firstly, it’s not like they need to be so off-putting to be evil. Orcus is a demon of undeath, his followers want to turn their enemies into the undead. Tzeentch wants the world to be in a constant cycle of chaos, his followers are gonna be masterminding world wars.

Secondly, it’s not like we don’t have plenty of examples of real-world evil cults. A lot of cults in the West don’t follow Super-Duper-Mega-Murder Satan, but are fucked-up offshoots of Christianity. Historically, goetia was practiced by people who would’ve still called themselves Christians, while committing rituals to summon and get boons from demons. Plenty of human cultures used to sacrifice humans to their gods, not to summon them to kill everyone or some shit, but to honor and/or appease them.

Like to use another example from Warhammer, I think Nurgle and Khorne present more “approachable” evil cults. Nurgle is toxic positivity, and his love will take all the pain away. Khorne is wrapped up in enough language about honor to lure people in.

Like to rework an evil deity, let’s pick Lamashtu. Instead of “We love ugliness and miscarriages and also you get to die in childbirth”, the cult targets vulnerable young women and lures them in with divine feminine language (“You have the power to bear and raise great beasts”), while promising the young men of monstrous races frustrated living among humans that what they’re scorned for is what makes them powerful (and also they get to have sex with pretty girls).

Nurgle is probably the most successful because unlike the other gods he has evangelists instead of just temptations or predilections. And he offers something a huge number of people would genuinely want: no more pain, no more suffering. The rotting and disease and such only happen once the cultist stops being human. So the cultists themselves are mostly normal people during their day to day life, and might even look happier than normal.
Tzeentch cultists look like were on heroin, Slaanesh cultists currently are on heroin, and Khorne cultists look like they need heroin to deal with the pain they're in.

Nurgle for me dawg
>>
>>97164833
What weirds me out is that girls actually went there to be sex slaves. Like Shamina Begum went there with her friends to be fucked by ISIS fighters. I don't even know what she got out of it.

Vista edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

The core concept is to sell product (and it sold pretty well), not if anyone played it. Especially not the grifters making money out of it
>>
>>97175777
Probably some variation of "Let's make hay while the sun shines".
This game sold its entire print in a week, and thice as many pdf. Pure profit
>b-but nobody plays it!
Yes, and? How is that making the grifters any less rich and idiots any less gullible?
I don't know what you find funny in this at all.
>>
>>97175920
>I don't know what you find funny in this at all.

>Take massive risk on starting your new game project
>One to which you would have to commit
>And risk loosing easy sponsorship
vs.
>Make easy money on your own fan base
>You don't have to commit to anything at all
>Sponsorship money is still flowing
I don't even consider this a choice, to be frank. It's a pure no-brainer. And it would be crazy if they tried to turn their 5 minutes of fame into anything else than a quick, guaranteed pay-off, rather than some pipe dream idea of dethroning DnD.
They live off DnD, you moron.
>>
>>97175924
So you know someone who actually bought this game?
See, because that's the funny part for me - this obvious grift sold out within 6 days, supposedly making fuckload of money... but nobody ever met anyone who bought it. And I'm willing to think this is a self-made grift, where the goal wasn't to reach sales, but to artificially boost your own image as best-selling creator. Buying 10k books of your own is a known grift scheme, Daniel patented it for TTRPG with his WFRP 2e clone, so there is a solid chance this game was bought by the CR people themselves, then net them back 1/3 of the money spend, but being flagged out as "best-seller"

Haven't been about in a wee while, is the guy who was posted that chainsaw deck still about? Did you settle on a list you were happy with? Was thinking about trying it out.
>>
>>97174032
Not parasitic af as other anon said but most magic sets nowadays are designed as yugioh sets: make 2 -3 archetypes and fill the set with cards meant to play together with almost 0 replay value for older cards.

Exemple:
spooderman spider tribal thing
>But magic has spiders!
yeah, and the cards in the spiderman set will be played with other spiderman cards 90% of times.
(let me not start on heroes and villains)

other exemple, and what I think anon was referring, is firebending being forced and receiving most of its support from the same set (but to be honest some cards do have some synergy with nu-tarkir cards)
other is the new lesson cards. They work in the deck made with avatar cards but other than that not that much.

What I m saying is that there is less incentive for inter-set play and synergy than in other years. Most new mechanics are obviously things that don't "talk" well with other things in the same standard so most support and things that make the thing work come from the same set as them.

Compare those mechanics to Ikoria for exemple: most cycling matter cards didn't call for cycling but for discarding cards, mutate was really versatile and people could splash for mutate creature in most decks despite the intention of the ability (aka make big creatures bigger and better)(for most of time players used them on mana dorks and utility creatures).
>>
>>97175553
you guys don't know what parasitic means
the two mechanics in spider-man (mayhem and webslinging) are both extremely generic and broadly usable mechanics. I have no doubt they were just mechanics sitting on the shelf, waiting for a rush-job to come along.
firebending is not "forced" it's literally just conditional mana dorks. Firebending could only possibly be parasitic if it made special avatar mana that could only be spent on avatar cards. There's is nothing even remotely parasitic about "whenever you attack, add red mana."
Energy is a parasitic mechanic. Snow is a parasitic mechanic.

I would say yes. As with every army you can gimp yourself into losing, but vampire generals are the best naked generals in the game.

Wait are you in Australia? I saw that lot and winced at the amount of missing arms - i do have an stl for them though.

As for filler some flamers(ideally the opposite vintage to what your use as flamers) would look great.

The aos endless spells would also be fantastic.

The pupil response is consensual in a healthy normal individual. Your pupils constrict in bright light and dilate in darkness. This would be unaffected by wearing an eyepatch. However, the dark adaptation of the eyes can differ and it's pretty trivial to check that this does in fact work. Keep one eye covered for 5 minutes or so and then assess how you see with each eye in darkness.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

I roll for everyone but start with the group leader first. If the leader flees, then everyone else has a bonus +4 on fleeing. Also, if 3 people flee in a row, then I just assume everyone flees.

>>97173969
I recommend Arcanist and Warlock Corpse as well.
>>
>>97175261
It depends on the size of combat, but I always start with a leader, if there is one. Then I give the others penalties if the leader flees. I also test whenever the allied troops fall below 50%, and if a unit has an average or lower morale, I test whenever they witness major casualties to allies. The result is very realistic responses to losses.

I roll one check for the whole group, unless the enemies have different morale scores; then I roll once for each enemy type. Also, if the leader of a given group breaks, his troops break automatically (but not the reverse).
