I thought they said their skin?
>>
>>97204379
There's a lot of really bad problems with Avatar that stem from James Cameron investing millions of his own cash into research and science and really really high level world building so that everything is perfect and believable and realistic.... and then he decided for nearly every single thing to just go with the most basic bitch, easy to understand, simplified, normie-friendly version of his ideas, threw out nearly all of the hard sci-fi shit he started with, and made the world's most elaborate braindead popcorn flick with the dumbed down scraps he had left.

Like the Navi have 3 fingers, which would drastically change how their musical instruments are created and thus how their music would be composed and so on. Cameron hired and paid millions to musicologists and researchers and other people to compose that music based on the sociological basis of their planet and culture and everything else. He hired a linguistics expert to create an entirely coherent Navi language. When he had them put shit together to compose Navi music with Navi lyrics, James Cameron decided it sounded "TOO ALIEN" and instead went with the most forgettable generic, stereotypical "Indian music" (native, not streetshitter) instead, and had them butcher the lyrics so they were nonsense in the conlang they made, but sounded better to Cameron's asinine sensibilities.
>>
>>97204781
That’s sad, do those recordings exist anywhere?
>>
>>97204781
>instead went with the most forgettable generic, stereotypical "Indian music"
Not even, the navi music contains aggressively western/eurocentric instruments and leitmotifs, such as the "heroic trumpet swell" that traces back with heralding a european noble's arrival. It's worse than HOYA HEYA in space, it's eurocentric cinemaslop with a thin coat of HOYA HEYA slopped over it...in space.

Most campaigns would make for a pretty terrible book/movie/anime and that's okay. You don't make a good story meant to be played the same way you would make a story meant to be red or watched, problem is that a lot of hack authors delude themselves into thinking otherwise.

We should not kid ourselves into thinking that "grey morality" automatically makes everything better. Because like every tropes, you need an author with actual talent to make it work. Otherwise you end up with picrel where literral demons from hell, who lie murder and rape, are supposed to be a metaphor for misunderstood immigrants, which is really fucking racist but somehow netflix succesfully gaslighted everyone about this story being "progressive" and shit.

Fish edition

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e, BECMI, retroclones NSR and newer) are not OSR should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creator in its first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

This is a hijack false flag thread created by fishfag. After failing to make 2e on topic, he's now trying to make BECMI and retroclones off-topic so he can tout the purity spiral.

Ask on the real /osrg/, we'll he happy to discuss this there.

Previously: https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/96936967/

When last we met, we made G.E.T.S. (Generally Entertaining Team-built System). Thus far, it seems to be a fairly minimalist system.

Now, we shall make our first setting for this system.

If your proposed idea gets doubles, it is canonized. Any canon characters, worldbuilding, themes, et cetera can be modified (but not outright contradicted or discarded) by triples, quadruples, et cetera.

Let us continue.

Do you mind elaborating on why you hate range bands? I was thinking of using a similar system for my shitbrew, just with some tweaks on how it’s presented. I’d appreciate it.
>>
>>97199510
I come from playing usually on battlemaps and grid or hex, easily reading or with a quick measure exact distance, be it for getting into melee or firing weapons.
If there isn't a map then range bands have a greater value, even if my mindscape then just have entities wearing goofy hola hops tagged with "close" and such.
For small insignificant battle, where no one is expected to keep track of all too much there is no great an issue with range bands: I think I could buy into range bands for Call of Cthulhu as my experience (outside of pulp rules) is that it is usually over swiftly if combat ensues.
For vehicles, be they tanks, ships or starships these also work fine with range bands, all PCs ought to be on the same vessel opposing a low single-digit number which I may at time have just about enough cognitive capacity to keep track of.
If the scale is the PCs in a building or small field against several enemies: I'll want a map with measurements. Far too many discussions of "Is this in reach?" with range bands that can be torpedoed with measuring the distance.
>>
>>97199510
>>97201166
in my personal fallout system (basically finished but not playtested yet, and I want to add more tables/stuff for GMing) all weapons get penalty equal to feet of distance to the target, doubled for very short range weapons like sawn-offs, halved for medium range weapons like carbines, and quarter for rifles and such. There's a few additional simple rules to account for stuff like scoped rifles being worse at point blank range than other guns.

A friend of mine is planning on running the game again after a hiatus as a player, and last time we played the Hunger/Thirst/Sleep meters were supposed to play a large role but ultimately got sidelined as the GM dislikes bean-counting.

As a fan of bean-counting I took a look again at the Survival mechanics, and I wonder why there's nothing positive or gained by interacting with the mechanics. Hunger and Thirst merely stave off fatigue, and while Sleep does give you a health bonus if you sleep for a certain amount of time, it's a single occurrence of the mechanic actually doing something for the player. Other survival games I've played (Valheim) have hunger/thirst as a mechanic that solely benefits the player, increasing HP and Stamina depending on what is eaten, with a ticking timer before you return to a baseline of starving and thirsty (but not killing you), while other games have these same Nuisance Mechanics (Armor Durability, etc.) that allow you to increase the effectiveness of a bar by repeatedly interacting with it (In this case, Oblivion and the Armorer skill, and past a certain skill level you can over-repair weapons to do extra damage, etc.).

It strikes me that positive feedback for using these mechanics would make them more engaging for players: it doesn't have to be game-changing, but something like a free d20 for a Strength/Endurance check for being Full or Sated on the Hunger bar, a free d20 on a Perception/Agility check while being quenched on the Thirst bar. (I'd also add an increase to difficulty on Perception checks when sleepy but, one thing at a time.)
>>
>>97204488
>nothing positive or gained by interacting with the mechanics

Not being fatigued is the positive. Do you expect to run faster IRL because you drank a coffee or something?
