>>97204674Ok, let's pretend you are the all-knowing fountain of knowledge from which the lowly plebians must drink from the altar of. How do you define "Inspired by" in such a way as it translates to "Has absolutely nothing to do with the inspiration, but is something of a remake of this other thing they are steering clear of."
>>97204820For a while, the STG-44 was also a symbol of rebellion. The Soviets shipped a shitload of them to the Vietcong
>>97176188I actually liked this short since it was one of the like...3ish? shorts that was not just more Jedi shit. George seemed to have forgotten, and Disney totally ignored that a big part of why people liked Star Wars was the WWII dogfights in space and the ships pew pew lasering each other.
>>97205134In some fairness, Scarif was one of the best space battles in the entire franchise, but otherwise yeah, Disney has dropped the ball on the ship combat.>not just more Jedi shitMeh, I can't really blame people for going straight for the lightsabers when Disney opens up the toy box and tells you to go crazy. I think the real root of Jedi fatigue is just that Disney sucks at making them cool.
What do you generally charge PCs for information?I mean infochants exist in the Star Wars galaxy. So sooner or later players are going to get the idea of just paying an information broker to, functionally, tell them which way the plot is. But information is such an abstract thing I struggle to come up with what kind of exchange rate that would have. And having the PCs also pay in the abstract (ie: favors and such) just strains credulity after a while, this is the NPCs job, they got bills, rent, groceries, etc… and landlords generally don’t accept “favors” as a valid form of payment. So realistically an infochant is going to want credits first and foremost, and only fall back on favors and the like if the PCs negotiate down to that, or can’t pay and the guy feels sorry for them. But I guess I really don’t know what kind of numbers should get tossed around as a ‘believable’ for hard-to-find information.

I'm joining a one shot on Saturday and I need a character.Link me a character sheet, and in exchange I'll return with green texts of the character's exploits. If I get to pick, I'd like a Dwarven Artificer, but I'll play anything.I'm an inveterate role-player but I haven't played in quite a while; I think I still have all the 3e rules memorized though. You can specify a personality if you have one in mind, but mostly I need a character sheet.Rules:D&D 5e 2024Official materials onlyOptimized or not is fine.Concept:Members of a long dispanded mercenary group meet up in Waterdeep.

Do you use AI art on your games? Why would you not?
>>97111856I once ran a campaign like that. >The main premise was that a huge force of pirates starts harassing a crucial world without any reason or clear goal.>Turns out they are Union false flag>As players dig deeper, they learn that Galsim is a sham. It's been giving inaccurate predictions for centuries.>But Union leadership is so indoctrinated into the idea of it being always right they start to "fix" its mistakes by stirring shit in real world to match the simulation.>Players join a military coup and storm Mars facility to switch off the simulation>Destroying the minds causes a new Age of Strife style dark age

>>97200405That anon you're talking about here, you're basically completely rehashing what I said a little later than that post about fighting a ghost. I only wanted a mecha work that demonstrated dominance and superiority. I never wanted literal realism, and if I used the word realism before, it's because I think you're sniffing farts if you insist on verismilitude instead of just using realism.
>>97203145>but it's not mecha by in a useful terminology. Why not?>it fails at the "limbed locomotion" criteria. That's literally the point of why I bring it up. That's a mecha build from Armored Core 6. Your definition would have to bite a bullet and say this well known mecha game can be turned into not-mecha just by swapping the leg parts for the tracks parts.>what matter is for stories to be started with an ending in mindI'm fine with it meandering a bit, but it needs to end before it gets silly.>Your argument break here becauseNo, none of what you just said here means any of that. None of that logically follows. Something does not become "simple" because you understand it, and no one said a pattern was over explained or overused in that example. You're inserting massive assumptions that are not at all connected to each other.>That's literally what people hate mosAgain, that's why I brought it up. It follows real life patterns that people can recognize, that people can be accused of a false crime when it turned out it was a random mugging. Yet people hate that, despite it following your criteria of "people love patterns." So why do people hate that?Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>97205024>>97205157To be fair, in prior editions trying to just break an object took at least a minute, while attacking it only a few seconds, objects had no DVs, and you didn't roll for damage, just applied the damage that overcame it's soak straight>>97205216IIRC, no, though in 3e having a relevant tool/weapon applies one automatic success to said feat, in earlier editions it's just "You meet the minimums? You can rip it apart"
>>97203144Apparently it was a long-shot that the creators threw out because they didn't anticipate that they would need so many stretch goals at the last minute, lol.
>>97205306It's been ten fucking years and they still haven't hired a single person who can properly judge this shit?

Why did 5.5e drop the ball so hard? Everyone I know who likes 5e is staying with 5.0e. And more than a few of them have moved to 3.5, OSR, or other games entirely. Is WOTC just stupid?
>>97204491>why do 5e people still play 5eBecause when you market a game to target the lowest common denominator and use sunken cost logic to milk the fanbase this effectively you will have as much success switching them over to the next game as your competitors did with their products over the last decade.
>>97204491>Is WOTC just stupid? No, they're also greedy and evil, and their parent company hasbro is also stupid greedy and evil
>>97204491We're never going to know because they don't release the information, but apparently it was the strongest d&d launch ever. My LGS sold out of there first batch of phbs pretty quickly.I think there isn't much conversation about it because, at the end of the day, it's still 5e. It changed some things, but it's still essentially the same game. We switched over because my one friend who runs games mainly runs 5e and he wanted to try it, and it's fine, but it wouldn't by my first choice for anything.I didn't pay for a book, by the way. They sell that shit at Barnes and Noble, which means it's free.
>>97204605>>97205023That is the weird part. It's been a decade and it feels like they've come out with what, 5 major splatbooks? And then instead of just printing more spaltbooks, or bigger and better-quality ones, they just print a new PHB and try to get everyone to buy it again. Not even a PHB with updated errata and some of the better splatbook content, but just a weird remake that barely does anything different, but does just enough different where nobody believes the whole 'backwards compatibility' angle. The sheer glut of homebrew content for 5e should make it obvious how fucking easy it is to churn out more books, but instead they just split up the playerbase over what was basically nothing.
>>97204491They wanted to get the money from releasing a new edition and forcing everyone to buy new books, but they were also too afraid to actually change anything. So it's just sort of there, not even able to justify itself as a balance fix.
What's the most exotic location the players have traveled to in your game?
>>97202246>I've used some of this art in my campaigns without knowing lmao, holy fuck. >>97196534The moon but like, the imaginative version from before science was really a thing that knew about the moon.
>>97204397So like Moon Princess style?

>>97196542Why is the midwest so full of crime?
>author adapts his D&D campaign into a well-written, highly-entertaining animated seriesWhy has nobody done this since?
>>97199170That's why it's cool, but there is some DND directly in there IIRC.>>97205076Most isekai are not about edginess in the least. Which kinda makes them worse.
>>97205150I'm usually fine with the "shapeless lump of a nice guy ends up with six girls chasing him" isekai, because that at least encourages people to be nice. The manwha that feel like someone got rejected by a girl and beat up by a guy who then fucked that girl, and now the guy is writing really dumb shit instead of seeking therapy (and feature self-inserts so shameless that they don't even bother giving them a decent haircut), are the ones that everyone should despise.
>>97205200It doesn't really get me angry but yeah. I mean, even the usual incel if isekai'd into hot hero would think more about getting pussy than getting revenge over women
>>97205200That's the fun part to me. It's unabashedly pure ID. It's a great look at how shit life is for men in those countries.
>>97205076>The older Japanese manga might have your super-powered protagonist with his harem of girls chasing his dick, but they'd at least balance it out with something like "this guy is an asshole and that's actually a problem" or "this guy is arrogant and that actually bites him in the ass", and not just shit like "This guy sounds like an edgy teenager and is pointlessly sadistic because the writer is probably mildly psychotic and is guaranteed to have been bullied in school and will never let it go."You think that only because most of that stuff released during the '80s, '90s and early '00s was not translated. Only a limited amount of older shonen and seinen was brought over with the majority of stuff published or scanlated being middle school shonen and shoujo. When you go through magazines like Ultra Jump or Weekly Playboy which targeted older audiences edgy stuff like Bastard!! and Berserk were not out of the norm.
In my games, high level wizards turn to stone.
>>97202996This. Their concept artwork here: >>97195425 has them standing, and they’re clearly just meditating or something.
>>97195417Neat; I pitch the concept of a Barbarian warlord, with a powerful anti-magic shield, who is obsessed with besieging the keeps of arch-mages so he can smoke these "rock wizards" in a giant crack-pipe, in an attempt to "See God".
>>97204002Drugs are magic anon. You’re describing another wizard. I don’t doubt that wizards in Elden Ring crush and snort glintstones either.
>>97203944>Their concept artwork has them standingt. retard who doesn't understand what the fuck reference art is
>>97204596That’s not concept art of reference art. It is just a model.

Do you prefer to make characters that are built to thrive within society, or characters that are built to be as independent from society as they possibly can be?
>>97189813Shadowrun.
>>97179453Both. The only true independence is at the very top of society.
>>97181605It's a decent question. Not every fucking question ask on here is a spambot.
>>97179453Independent, however they should still be able to function and maybe still thrive in society. One of my favorite characters I made was just like that. He was an half-elf apothecary spellblade. Basically selling potions while adventuring for more material and magic. He didn't care about the political side of things nor was mad with wanting to learn all of magic. However he just wanted travel and learn as he adventure around aimlessly.
