How do we fix Steampunk?

>Occultism often claims to derive it's believes from some ancient forgotten tradition
If it's forgotten then it ain't tradition.
>an occultist's approach to knowledge runs contrary to the dominant empiricist scientific positivist paradigm.
Does it though? The line gets blurry when you consider Frankenstein or your own examples of mesmerism and the like.
>>
>>97196423
you don't?
you just make it more than a cogflop aesthetic
lots of "steampunk" settings are pretty popular or have a positive cult following
>console games
chrono trigger incorporates time travel and advanced tech, final fantasy 6 has some lovecraftian becoming god type stuff, final fantasy is general has tons of stuff like this with the airships and low tech firearms alongside engines and swords
there's also dishonoured, arcanum as op posted, usually asian settings incorporate stuff more if I think about it, lots of anime also has a steampunk style like nausicaa

you can also sprinkle technology and have it go through advances like Edge Chronicles
>>
>>97207230
>Does it though? The line gets blurry when you consider Frankenstein or your own examples of mesmerism and the like.
Those aren't really mystical or occult so much as they are fringe science, the monster of Frankenstein being partially inspired by real life experiments involving electricity for example.
>If it's forgotten then it ain't tradition.
And that's why you get "mediums" to contact ancient spirits of Tibetan Sages and Atlantis priest kings so they can pass "the secret teaching" to you.
>>
>>97207260
>Those aren't really mystical or occult so much as they are fringe science
The way I see it the main difference between becoming invisible with the power of fringe science or by accessing the secrets of Xibablba is the age of the source of the knowledge. One is cutting edge and the other ancient. Both are pushing beyond the the accepted boundaries of science and tradition. Is that distinction important enough warrant a thematic struggle between the two or make them incompatible in the same setting as the original poster implied?
>>
>>97207308
>The way I see it the main difference between becoming invisible with the power of fringe science or by accessing the secrets of Xibablba is the age of the source of the knowledge.
That makes sense. But there's also the relationship that these beliefs have with truth, one believes that you can measure and understand the whole universe, the other wants to directly experience the truth through mystical means.
>Is that distinction important enough warrant a thematic struggle between the two or make them incompatible in the same setting as the original poster implied?
Sure, it's a dispute over the fundamental nature of reality itself, as well as two distinct ways of seeing the world, that can be an interesting conflict, and I think it's important to steampunk in particular.

■ Whenever your opponent puts a creature that costs more than the number of cards in their mana zone, they put it into their owner's mana zone instead.

■ Super Soul Cross (If this is under a creature, that creature also gets the following ability.)
■ At the end of your opponent's turn, if they have no tapped creatures, you may put the top 2 cards of your deck into your mana zone. If you do, return a card from your mana zone to your hand.

PPP is an anti meta card to fight off free casts. Let's just go ahead and assume you have Pandora Princess-Prin. If you went second against THIS >>97200585 you still lost because you might not have been able to either legitimately summon it by ONE mana, or might not be able to cheat out a THREE DROP to prevent free casting. I'm still doing research, and looking at meta decks is helpful (thank you anon for all the help on that) but this is a lot stronger than I initially thought.

I think most anti-meta cards that are used mainly for their anti-meta properties are 2 or 1 drops. Turn 3 is usually when people typically pop off if uncontested. Caddy Beetle >>97202573 does the same anti-meta thing for 1 cheaper.
Prin in the early mid-game seems really good though. Forcing your opponent to attack earlier than they might want to or give you card and mana advantage. Especially good because it'll keep that ability when evolved.

>>97206616

you're entitled to your preferences anon, its a free basket weaving forum. I dont see it in the same light and like I said i think your running on some dubious info. the stability issue particularly, for any game 10+ years in print theres always bumps. and not to mention plenty of acgs dont even see the 10 year mark.

>dont fuck with pod from china
pretty sure their POD is out of like twin cities or some shit. it's that ghost galaxy forgefire/antiforge shop that spun off ffg when peterson bought out. same fuckers printing keyforge. not to say they cant outsource from there but the turnaround is decently fast so if its china its not coming by boat.
>dont fuck with kickstarters
usually a turn off for me too, and I avoid KS parasite publishers at all costs. but putting a single launch on KS (the new starter box) in the life of a game doesnt automatically make a company CMON. they said up front it was purely for promotion since KSs get a lot of free press from toobers, bgg, etc. and that box is hitting retail like 6 weeks after KS delivery and there were no exclusives.
>dont fuck with team covenant
if that tree is poison fruit, thats also sorcery, FAB, hubworld, warlord, gudnak, alpha clash, the LCGs, you're missing out on a good chunk of the better /acg/ games. but just like with all those partnerships, if you hate TC just dont use their preorder thing. get it direct from publisher or from the FLGS. nobody is making you watch their fucking youtube show.

After the the Tau'va manifests in early M42 a narrow slice of the population of T'au plus their populations of non T’au who are faithful to the emerging Tau’va religion. find themselves able to control the elements that the four T’au Castes are named for. This control being identical to the Bending arts of Avatar. T'au castes are locked to only being able to manifest their associated element whilst the non-tau followers of the Tau‘va are able to manifest as any kind of bender though it is slanted toward people who most strongly resonate with a given Element's spiritual affiliation.

The number of people in Avatar itself who actually 'have' Bending and what makes a person get it or not is a bit loosie goosey as is so just go along with the number I’m laying out being a clean 1% of the population. Training of the bending arts takes the same martial art & fitness regimes as in Avatar though information sharing and media does canonically make the rarer techniques more widely avalible by the time of Korra so assume bending specializations are as common as they are were in that time.Ethereal are benderless but there is a single reincarnating Tauvatar Ethereal who in on a hotline to Tau'va and able to consult their past lives when and if they’ve accumulated any. If Tauvatar perishes Tau'va will just cook up a new Tauvatar but always starting over from scratch on the reincarnation cycle. Bending is to be treated like a Psyker power in terms of there being forces which dampen or prevent it’s use but the act of doing a Bending art in of itself is to be treated as 'safe' insofar as it‘s having nothing in the way of perils to using it.

Just a reminder that this already exists in Star Wars.

I'm referring to the Shapers of Kro'var; they're only mentioned once or twice in the footnotes of some Star Wars role-playing game books. They can shape the elements, but since it's a Force ability, any Force user who isn't a native of Kro'var can learn it.

It seems that the only important thing they've done is fight against the separatists before the events of The Phantom Menace.

Energy reading from shaman firebenders could be a way to root out Chaos cultists and Genestealers.

Airbenders have special self-temperature control so they can bypass a lot of environment threats over ambient cold and heat. Firebenders can also do this to an extent but only for warming themselves.

(They’re just inventing new powers and shit on the fly all the time now, poor Avatar should have been allowed to retire after the show ended)

The 4 elements as a motif predate the printing press, Avatar didn’t stumble it that out of nowhere after all.

>>97205751
So this *is* actually a real character but no there isn’t such a thing a shadowbending, not in practice at least. She was from an OC contest back in 2006. (Season 1 started in 2005 & the show finessed in 08) This is ooooold af from a time iirc the show didn’t even know dragons or badger moles were a thing and the Canon has absolutely left this behind.

Tau'va religion is by default an underminer to their authority. One avatar who is probs inclined to be loyal to the goddess' commandments anyway is 'not' a fair exchange for the buff to Tau religion that comes by litteral tau goddess blessings being a known factor. Ethereals are going to lose the schism war HARD.

Bending hurts the caste interreliance as well. Air/Water/Earth are now that much better equipped to defend themselves in a pinch with bending then without. Firec can do a bit of kitbashed mechanics now that there are guys who''ll power a generator with lightning or smelt by hand and coming at it from the other non-religious schism arguments. Ethereals being useless/puppetmasters is why the farsight exists and that line or reasoning only gets stronger when already useless ethereals are the only guys without the bending.

Smells a little like Sidereals in here
>>
>>97206866
>So you're saying they would have lost to the idealistic upstarts
We're saying that the crazier and more degenerate Solars are also the ones who're vastly more powerful and capable of smushing upstarts. The young rogue vigilante hunting down the devilish evil Solar tyrant just dies in the myths of the First Age.
>>
>>97207117
Also young Solars are just as likely to be looking for ways to earn the respect and recognition of these ancient monsters than to rise up against them. Elder Solars were, after all, heroes, legends, liberators of the world, slayers of titans, uplifters of humanity, figures young Solars, and their parents, and their parents' parents, and their parents' parents' parents and so on had grown up venerating.
>>
>>97207131
And the young Solars who do try to earn respect and recognition are in turn provided advantages that push them up ahead of the competition, naturally forming hierarchies of sycophants invested in the system, which turns into cycles of abuse held up by the power at the top unfortunately near-impossible to remove from their hands and turn to revolution. Yada yada etc etc.

All 3 people you replied to are the same guy. The anon sperging about osr is the same anon who spergs about the thread merge. There was also a sperg who was pro thread-merge, but that was a screeching fem-anon that had nothing to do with osr.

>TL;DR: If they mention osr, They are the osr shitposter. No one else knows or cares about osr.

>>97205850
If you actually read this thread, you'd know the discussion about how the trolling in /osrg had moved to here took place in this thread, not another one: the first time this pointless, unwanted thread merge was tried.

First reply is the schizo, second reply is someone actually explaining.

I already know you're the schizo anon. Your attempt to obfuscate that fact isn't fooling the vast majority of anons.

Have you noticed how the thread slowed down so much after you started posting? It's because the majority of anons know you're here and are waiting for you to leave so we can start having fun again. We don't care about your osr war. We don't give a fuck if the threads are merged or not. We want you to Just Shut Up.

Damn, are these really ok? Can they do this?
>>
>>97207071
Both are based in their own mecha univese so apart from similar engine or model styles they should be fine
>>
>>97206993
Don't think of it as an extremely slow mech, but as a highly mobile turret.

>Can I take a moment to mention how retarded it was for them to take away LAM external bomb slots in ASF mode
The point of the LAM rules was to make LAMs terrible. They weren't designed in good faith, and so they shouldn't be followed in good faith. As long as you're in ASF mode, just use external stores. Nobody worth gaming with will complain.
>>

>>97205776
Did they ever retcon that a LAM is 1.75x more expensive than a standard battlemech? Because when I apply that cost the cheapest C-Bill is around 3.6million where as the AIV is not only cheaper in BV but comes up around 2.4million?
