If you have Slay the Spire, you should see how the Yugioh mod for that works. There are a lot of decks you can pick from that play out differently. It's not a fighting game in the more strict sense, but it might be good food for your brain.
>>
I really hate dueling Edison blackwings

I don't think that stunning the player if they lack a card for a combo is the right course of action there. Especially if you're trying to make it like a yugioh combo, the activations would be illegal.

If you want some games with card-based mechanics that you can pull inspiration from,
>Touhou Hisoutensoku/its soku-style fighters
These ones are fighting games where you'd cycle through a deck of cards that you construct before each of the matches begin, where they can either be activated as buffs for the characters' standard attacks, act as supers, or generic effects. Supers used the cards "in your hand" as a cost, and you couldn't put cards back "into your deck" until the round resets.

Given that you're making a MOBA, if you use a system based on this, I'd just make it so you're using a pre-determined set of cards for each character that you can tweak with the shops after the match begins. That way the players have time to edit their builds pre-match, and also allowing them to edit them at the shops when they respawn. Make it so that you can run out of cards and have to go back to resupply to refresh your deck.

>Duelist of the Roses
This one was an old Yugioh TTG on the PS2. Basically you'd draw 5 cards each turn, and you could arbitrarily discard/destroy cards in your hand, using a first-in-first-out system. It's easier to just look up gameplay to wrap your head around that system.

Then there's the DBFZ mod that the other anon mentioned
>>

Hisoutensoku gameplay
https://youtu.be/pXMZW3mi_gQ?si=jgkCb4zAw55f7nm-&t=33
DotR gameplay

It's likely that neither of these will translate 1:1 to what you're doing, but you can probably extract at least a little bit of inspiration from these.

Tangentially related; If you haven't played either of these, I recommend them. The soku-style touhou fighters have rollback mods available, and have storymodes available in singleplayer (the first two have them for every character while Soku only has it for a few) and Duelist of the Roses has a few good overhaul patches floating around to make it so the gameplay isn't (as) braindead easy.

That site is mostly used by dumb coomlectors who want people to pay hundreds of dollars for their worthless cardboard.
>you don't get it bro, my beat up structure deck dark magician is worth 10k! never mind that it's in terrible condition, isn't 1st ed, and isn't graded, someone once sold this exact same card in this site for that much, so i want 8k minimum for it
Actual players or people who sell ygo cards for a living use tcgplayer.

>Does the party save any damsels in distress in your games? What about men in distress?

We're doing Lost Mines, so we've already saved a damoiseau in distress. Well, Sildar isn't exactly a young man, but he's close enough. Soon they'll get the chance to rescue both as they're going to be able to rescue what's left of the Dendrar family. My party is equal-opportunity rescuers, if they think they can gain something from it.
>>
>>97371680
The intent here is clearly to replace both attacks with two spells.

>What are some things DCGO gets wrong? I was interested in trying it,

I believe a major one is how it processes attacking procedures.

something like EoT DNA into CS Omni can attack twice with Matt and Tai when it should only be once.

and "This digimon may attack" effects dont work quite right either. Specifically, they're not tapping to swing right away when it matters for some decks
>>
>>97373134
yeah they don't process individual effects as an actual whole individual effect and others effects can interrupt it.
this is especially egregious with the "this digimon may attack effects" as you mentioned.
most of the time this is the problem, a lot of people play this wrong in person as well and sometimes make mistakes about it, but its usually pretty minor, dcgo does it in a lot of really bad ways.

for example if you jogress into aegisdramon with plesiomon effect, you would attack before aegisdramonas when digivolving would even activate, since you are still resolving the plesio effect.
but DCGO makes you do the when digivolving and all other effects from the evo and what it plays out on play before resolving the attack from the plesio effect.
so aegisdramon on dcgo just doesn't get to unsuspend it self from its on evo playing out a seadra and you miss out on like 1/3 of your attacks from the jogress.
chaosdramon has the same issue but its less relevant for the deck because the timing it resolves them doesn't really matter

the omnimon + matt & tai issue I think got fixed but it was a brute force solution that didn't actually fix why it was happening.
they have some problems with vortex eot ordering as well
>>
>>97373207
>yeah they don't process individual effects as an actual whole individual effect and others effects can interrupt it.
To be fair that's because there ARE interruptive effects in digimon and those fuckups are basically concessions to the fact that they had to code for interruptives (protection mostly)
>>
>>97373235
yeah but interruptive effects are uncommon enough that you can just specifically flag them and don't let other effects activate.
this is only a problem if you didn't think through what you were making and these were band-aids to late additions to the game you needed to design around to make work, which isn't the case at all. you know interruptive effects exist, you should design you sim around them, no other card game simulators have this issue despite having more complex state based activation.

this isn't an "oops an off by 1 error snuck through" its a failure at the fundamental design level

Hey gang. Can I get some information regarding the Star Wars RPGs? There seems to be a lot to choose from, and a few beginner boxes, it's quite a lot to take in and I think there may even be multiple developers? Any and all information would be appreciated.

There's the old West End Games D6 system. WEG is loved by many here, but I've seen anons say they find it a bit clunky by modern standards. I don't see it, but I will say it's very number crunchy. A classic, but not everyone likes dice pools.
More info:
http://d6holocron.com/downloads/wegcore.html

There's the Star Wars D20 system published by Wizards. The Saga Edition is the latest edition from 2007. Would be fairly familiar to people used to D&D's third edition.
Here's a wiki for more
https://swse.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars_Saga_Edition_Wikia
And just because it popped up on the front page of google, a pdf of the core rulebook.
https://www.theberserker.net/berserker/sw/rule_books/SW_Saga_Edition_Core_Rulebook.pdf

Then there's Fantasy Flight Game's systems, Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion and Force and Destiny. They're very cross-compatible so they're often lumped together as just FFG's Star Wars. In contrast to WEG's crunchiness, FFG is a bit light and fluffy. I personally enjoyed this, but I do recommend having plenty of house rules. For example, it's designed to be entirely theater of the mind and its weapons have range bands (e.g., Engaged, Short, Medium, Long, etc.) that are meant to be abstract. My group crunched those down to feet (Engaged-30 feet was Short, 30-60 feet was Medium, etc.) so we could use minis during combat. I find it a good way to keep track of where everything is.
And I like to turn players loose on a map and say "go, explore."
It does have a gazillion extra books, and most are out of print. The links in the OP should still have PDFs of them all.

FFG never stated that race, but honestly I think either Sakiyans or Arkanians will probably work fine.

Still need to decide what they’d point to and think “that’s a goblin”, or “that’s a Kobold”, and I especially need to figure out what species they’d think were gnomes.

Through with some time, I’m suspecting that if they think Trandoshans are Dragonborn, then they probably think Wookies are bugbears.

And I am definitely having them associate droids with the undead, (so anytime local adventures talk about battling zombies or skeletons, know they were likely fighting droids)

But one bit of… serendipity I want to put in was that the ship that rediscovered these “Dungeon worlds” was a Lucrehulk named: TFS Sigil (“TFS” standing for “Trade Federation Ship”)

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

yeah that's fair enough. they're still in that realm of LotFP where they're actually-usable dungeons. SOME weirdness and bullshit: i mean, a characters can randomly die approaching the Tower of the Stargazer (lightning strikes, everyone dies).

but when i think 'negadungeon' i think that other 'The Tower' adventure that Raggi wrote for a zine and the v1 printing of TotS. it's all about getting the players to a mysterious tower with a tempting treasure map.
...and then it's all just death traps. the players SHOULDN'T have gone into the dungeon! what idiots!!!

the final line of the adventure is literally:
>There is no treasure in the tower.
>>
>>97372866
>i think Winter's Daughter is pretty fun

I've always wondered how hard it could be to just ape redemption for a Werewolf or a Changeling game (Mage is definitely not possible outside of text games primarily). I know the WtA problem happened because Troika got fucked and White Wolf wasn't willing to foot the bill because they had their gay MMO shit not panning out. Ironic that Troika was maybe White Wolf's best shot at full time gaming.

She could do that as easily as she could Dominate one of the guests, though where it breaks down for me is how the letter gets to Mark. He would not be able to give his address over a public frequency, and while yes you need a registered address to use HAM, his 'dad' is using a fake. This would all be simpler if there was internet/cellphones but I am just trying to contrive how they might shift from speaking over a public line, WITHOUT revealing real identifying information, where one of them is constantly travelling, and somehow get to a means of private correspondence. Letters just seem like the ideal for that.

Maybe she Dominates a circus peon to put the mail in some local person's mailbox with that person's address written on it (and the letter of course makes it clear not to mail that address in the future, that it's fake), which would eliminate the need for a P.O. box which she would infrequently be able to access anyways due to the long orbit of a circus. Still has me unsure of how she gets Mark's real mailing address without using some other nebulous power like blood sorcery, and unsure of how he would mail a letter to her without her regularly sharing the location/address of the circus - which might even change before a letter gets there, even.

Maybe I need to majorly alter some elements here to make it work. Very frustrating but I appreciate you.
>>
>>97372072
This is a fair question but ultimately your players should never really be a sideline cast unless their journey is running parallel to the main events and it only comes together at a crucial point. WoD higher-tier NPCs are basically walking demigods though compared to your average dude so it's not easy by any stretch to incorporate that level of power gap and make it work in a story. Then again, everyone in WoD is made of paper on a good day so killing a single strong NPC should be something your characters should be able to do with ample prep time.

Definitely play around with things, though. You can make just about anything you want with the free models that are out there. This collage is a mix of Bing, Perchance and Grok.

Auré is absolutely right about experimenting. You'll never learn the ins & outs without seeing what happens when you use x instead of y. Just make a handful of prompts changing fabric materials to see what it makes, or lighting or styles, try out some uncommon colors like burgundy or vermillion, also know that with declarative statements you can just prompt nonsense stuff & get cool pics. What does a gnarled ultraviolet cheese tree look like? Prompt it & see. Maybe it will help you jury rig a hard to make prompt later on.

>join Cyberpunk Red effort game

>answer honestly and get accepted in
>discuss DM on character concept day 1
>get character sheet done, get world integration in
>basically Corpo looking to move up in the world in his company and looking to make underground allies, eventually taking down rival bitch girlboss
>GM already made girlboss NPC, already made the company I work at, doing work like proper good GM
>3 days pass, only one person has made their character and chats a bit
>DM asks the other two if they're ready to make their character yet
>"busy with work, I'll be available in 2 days"
>didn't you say you had free time?
>uhh yeah but stuff came up it'll be done after this week

Sloppy blowjob under the table.

Thread dedicated to Sci-Fi based discussion. 40k need not apply. [\spoiler]

How goes your sci-fi setting, anon? I am currently running a Traveller game in a homebrew setting, and am getting lost in the sauce of stellar physics.

>bombarding their problems from orbit?
How can you get anything from a location if it's just a smoking crater?
Also meat will always be cheaper and more flexible than steel. You can throw a bunch of men at a problem and they can adapt. Robots might run into unforseen problems that could be overlooked. Meanwhile humans you know how they can act normally, what can and can't kill them and there's always more to throw into a problem. Sometimes even with an air of plausible deniability

Absolute King shit right there, I love it and would shake your hand if I could.

Cepheus is more of a pre-Star Wars space opera. Stars Without Number is more of science fantasy by default (although you can easily turn it into something harder by mashing it with Cities).

SWN has D&D levelling, but the math is closer to Basic D&D, so HP bloat is less of a problem.

Haven't touched Traveller for years, since second edition, the quality of the book was fucking terrible and fell apart after barely any use, got it replaced. How are the editions since then?

>My setting is pretty retarded.

If it's fun for you and your players then it isn't retarded. Play the game and don't worry.

Prototype edition

Here is a thread to discuss trading card games other than the big three.

>Force of Will
>Final Fantasy TCG
>DBZ CCG
>Wixoss
>Keyforge
>Gundam
>Legend of the 5 Rings (L5R)
>Digimon
>Flesh and Blood
>Gate Ruler

Funny enough.
Apparently, there was a survey asking 400 elementary school students what card game they're playing and Z/X had almost 10%.

even if someone made this effort, what would be the point?
card effects exist to modify or cancel out core rules. until you have your main rules pinned down there's no sense worrying about what card effects look like.
