Yeh I meant flavor and balance. *In general* the 5th ed codices have some of the most flavorful and best and most unique and creative content in them over any other edition of warhammer. But they didnt always (read most of them lol) do a good job balancing it. The notable exception is that dark eldar book, which is just chock full of awesome units, rules, wargear, and options, while also being very well internally balanced. There is just so much cool stuff in it. On the contrary one of the most boring codices is the 4th edition eldar book (but its still better than the 3rd ed one cause fuck 3 shot starcannons lol). Ironically the coolest eldar book every published is the (and I hate to say it) but its the 7th ed one, simply because they finally took the time to come up with cool and thematic rules for all the aspect warriors.

Which edition is that? Cause I’m pretty sure in 3.5 you can’t give chosen jump packs or thunder hammers.
>>
>>97372009
what edition could you make chosen into vanguard veterans?
thunderhammers have historically been a loyalist weapon.
>>
>>97371006
I think you are confused or something.
5th edition codex are the ones that feel dull, unimaginative, hard to use (thanks to the troop info being split and duplicated in two different parts of the book) and unbalanced as fuck.
Yes that style of book started during 4th ed (eldar, orks, dark angels, chaos) but those are straight 5th edition books. The ork one released like one month before 5th.
In the other hand real 4th edition dex are very good and compatible with 3.5 space marines, tiranids, tau for example.
>>
>>97373980
NTA, but his opinion on 5E books is probably colored by how good the DE codex was. (It was genuinely really good, as was the model range refresh.)
Also the 4E Ork codex came out like 9 months before 5E dropped.
But maybe you were just being hyperbolic.

The results are in. Silverage has had a disastrous season 0; massive winners in format are already emerging before the official competitive launch event in London. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

First strike, right, fuck. Okay, that's actually clever.
>>
>>97373941
Notably, even if the creature you revive has first strike, it still works, because first strike is sort of weird in that it basically goes "Oh don't do that damage later, do it now" and if for whatever reason the damage can't be done now, it does it later when everything else normally does. Ninjutsu rulings show this already.

Out of morbid curiosity, I went and scrolled through months worth of his reddit posts and it's genuinely fascinating that the guy doesn't even pretend to care about RPGs. Sometimes he'll post faggy little backstories to go with the art he posts on reddit, but the overwhelming majority of his posts aren't even commissions. Even some of the artists he claims to have commissioned don't seem to have comm info, websites, or anything that like. A few of them do, but it's surprisingly just a lot of Korean artists. He also posts the same shit across multiple subreddits, mostly vague themes like "imaginarypeople" which all seem like ghost towns where his posts get a few hundred upboats, but no comments that aren't made by him.

His behavior across these dozen or so subreddits is downright mechanical, right down to copy and pasting the same message even though no one is commenting on the post at all
>I really shouldn’t have to do this but here is a link to the WIPs
Even though no one is questioning it. This also includes him reposting the same stories over and over too.

I can't tell if this is some abysmally autistic faggot who really, REALLY wants free upboats in between wanting his ego stroked for his commissions, or if he's just some obnoxious bot created purely for the purpose of spoofing activity so sites like reddit (which is verifiably run primarily by US government cyberops agents) and also /tg/, I guess, look less dead and more advertiser friendly.

Genuinely fascinating bullshit. What does he even want? He doesn't want to talk about his fake characters. He only pretends to be running games. He seems to just scour artstation for generic fantasy concept art. What compels a man, if he is a real man, to do this almost every day for years?

>How do you create compelling and deep conspiracies when everything is out in the open?
ICE has received what is arguably the biggest funding bump of any government agency since the initial war on terror. They employ masked operators who seemingly act with impunity and there is a concentrated effort by the public to reveal their identities far and wide to the point that just the other day 4500 of them got doxxed to the public.
With the way they operate you can easily have the program using it as a skin suit to grab actual persons of interest and threats to the greater humanity. Imagine the players having their personal information get published on the web and well meaning but disruptive as fuck citizens are recording their every movement while they're forced to use this blunt instrument as an organization. Imagine some cultists finding out who your parents because of an online database and some activists being able to link your appearance with list of known members.
There's a lot we can do in current era. And don't even get me started on shit like government representatives being spies for foreign powers or the child fucking rings and spirit cooking bullshit our leaders and elite get up to.
There's so so much to work with if you want to roll your sleeves up and get right the fuck into it.
>>
>>97364572

I know you didn't mean that, but I did find the idea of doxxing actual players to ICE amusing and in line with our times.

So I tend to run high-powered games with lots of homebrew and shenanigans going on in PF1e/D&D3.5e/d20 systems/etc. and I've used plenty of optional rulesets and such and tend to allow copious (some would even say insane) amounts of 3pp and alt content as long as I have a chance to review it first and it seems like it'd fit. Among other things I have used the Mythic rules for some of my games and overall I do find some of the content rather overboard even for my games. I have also granted players customized extras (that occasionally scale) before, once I called them "atavisms".

I am trying to design an "add-on" system that's a bit more regular for my games instead of the random campaign specific stuff I've done for people. I'm just not entirely sure what to call this though and I was hoping you lot might have some interesting suggestions (barring making up my own word ofc).

Thus far some name ideas include
> atavisms
> blessings
> boons
> awakenings (there is a 3pp system for these)
> gifts
> modifications/mods
> templates
> splats (WoD reference)
> sides (eating lol)

Well, I kinda didn't exactly know what else to put as an image either to be fair. Though the gift idea could include actual physical items as well, such as a scaling magic item or something like the D&D3.5e Weapons of Legacy.

Ultimately these "add-ons" are supposed to do the following (possibly with specific rules or story elements depending on the game)
> provide extra power(s) and versatility
> scale as the player increases in level or through other means (such as obtaining upgrades via story or challenge completion)
> be relatively independent from the character's race/class/etc and overall build choices
> be able to be invested into WITH build choices if the player wishes (but not essential)
> provide difficult to obtain capabilities or replicate or improve upon specific features found within the system

> Deviation
Aye that does carry more negative connotations
> Augmentation
Yeah that's very tied to cybernetics in TTRPGs, though I do often include "advanced" tech (often magitech), though many vidya (especially RPGs) do use the word "augment" for things unrelated to tech so it's not too much of a reach

Previously I based the "atavism" concept on a very cheap RPGMaker game on Steam called LiEat (highly recommend it, very cute and heartwarming, very easy too especially if you find the OP maxed out "cheat" items in each episode, full price is like 3 USD and it's often on sale) which had creatures (people) called "dragons" that were born of someone's "wish" or deep desire (hatched from an egg) and had a power related to granting said wish. Some examples include
> character who often loses companions in battle wishes for a companion they won't lose, creates "dragon" that auto-rezzes after a bit after being "killed"
> thief character who wants to be able to break in and out of places better, creates "dragon" that can teleport through shadows
> character with constant nightmares, creates "dragon" that eats dreams

In the campaign I'm running with it I'm also using a powerful undead template from the Spheres website (the Darkseed template) for rare and extremely powerful boss entities. Just in case one of my players sees this I'll keep the reason secret but there are some rumors and theories that the Darkseeds are supposed to be opposite the "dragon" characters (which I've renamed to avoid confusion with the actual dragon creatures). The "dragon" characters are considered unique existences and noone really knows how or why they exist yet either.

The atavisms that I've used for it so far are mostly made up of a handful of talents or feats or small features at Lv1 or something equivalent to that (often mixed in some unique "rules breaking" way or modified slightly) and a small bonus to a relevant stat and then thus far at least scales at Lv3 and every 3rd after granting approx 1-2 feats or talents equivalent each time that tie in to whatever uniqueness is going on.
>>
Some "gift" ideas I've come up with so far include
> a caster gun (like Outlaw Star) and improvements to it
> certain Deific talents from Spheres
> the Light Body Technique from Spheres (grants mobility features and stuff as you level)
> access to (and an improvement to) the Sparking subsystem for Path of War maneuvers (basically stamina-based spontaneous weaboo fightan majik)
> a special weapon akin to the Black Blades from the Magus Bladebound archetype (possibly connected to Arcane Strike shenanigans)
> something like the D&D3.5e Item Familiar, possibly adding in something like the D&D3.5e Factotum's Inspiration or the Investigator's Inspiration
> some sort of scaling "fuck that thing" ability like the Blood Hunter Ranger's Favored Target (1/2 powered Favored Enemy w/e type I choose) or the Inquisitor's Bane "that fucker" or the Signifer's Fist item's Bane "the thing I just hit"
> some sort of flexible scouting/investigation/spying progression thing including like the Blood Hunter Ranger's Hunting Ground (Favored Terrain that can be changed w/1 hour of hanging out somewhere) or mechanics similar to the Scout/Scoundrel Spheres of Might and/or Investigation/Survivalism/Subterfuge Spheres of Guile
> affinity to advanced tech (or "ancient" advanced tech) and increasing bonuses using that stuff
> something like the FFd20 Blue Mage Savant archetype's ability to "see and copy" a spell (also like the Sharingan of Naruto infamy)
> something flexible like a limited amount of Adventurer (BESMd20) or Freelancer (FFd20) points
> a special set of bells based on the ones used by the Abhorsen of the Old Kingdom book series by Garth Nix (bells to undo and combat necromancy) and some associated powers
> various other "powerful unique items" like the caster gun, black blade, Abhorsen bells, Weapons of Legacy, etc... probably tied to different themes and concepts
> access to special custom Akashic Veilweaving capabilities

Though I want to create this as a "system" or optional ruleset for general use as opposed to the "atavisms" I custom made for specific characters in my current campaign, I could also make some based around the atavisms I made for that campaign. Some of the ones that aren't already included in the post above include
> a "depleted" relic weapon designed to combat the undead and some anti-undead features
> improved archery fuckery including the Eyes of the Hawkguard veil and a spammable Trick Shot psi-like ability, was going to advance to include Arcane Strike and some of its bonus debuff feats
> teleportation/movement shenanigans including the Runecloth of Doorways veil and some stuff from the FFd20 Red Mage Vermilion Duelist (including spending stamina for extra swift actions)
> endurance/survival type features basically making the character able to endure just about any travel or environment, also Keep Watch SLA so they don't need to sleep
> AoE based defense/protection capabilities such as The Duelist's Point veil, Guardian Sphere, Shield Sphere, etc
> the ability to inspire and lead others in various ways including the Personal Theme Song feat, Warleader sphere capabilities, and etc
> access to the Gadgets feature of the Technician basically crafting short-term useful items rather quickly, MacGuyver vibes
> some (rather insane) crafting bonuses (I'm probably not going to do this one again lol)
> becoming a (literally) glowing example of battlefield endurance, shedding light and being able to keep fighting below 0 HP as well as being able to buff/heal closeby allies
> small constant AoE buffs (the Purring feats) and the ability to see into people's surface thoughts a bit (was for a seducer/diplomat type of person)
> immunity to pain and access to Shield sphere and defensive capabilities and some medical knowledge
> immunity to poisons, able to detect poisons, craft (alchemy) bonuses, and a bunch of poison/venom perks

There's more but you get the idea I'm sure.

>>97372311
I was also inspired by Souls to add a "Gift" system, as I think it could add a lot with roleplaying. The term for them is still somewhat TBD, but right now I'm calling them Keepsakes, which happens to be the what the same Gift system is called in Elden Ring. I'm using them as more of an optional roleplaying method at the end of character creation. They do have some passive and active effects, but they're minimal to keep them (mostly) roleplaying devices. Players can write a short blurb about how they how and why they have their chosen Keepsake; useful for potential future situations, especially since some Keepsakes are associated with different races, cultures, nations, etc.

Essentially they're there for sentimental and roleplaying reasons, with minor effects in gameplay.

So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.

In short: It doesn't. Don't know shit about GeneStorm, but GammaWorld has a better setting and a wider collection of different editions, each with their own collections of splats and supplements, for you to enjoy and tailor to your tastes, on top of generally being better games with better settings.

Palladium's/TMNT&OS's mutation mechanics seem really cool at a glance, but when you really dig into them, the variety of options isn't that good and generally don't make very interesting characters.

However, a reasonable enemy adds intrigue. Negotiations. Factionalism. Negotiate peace or prepare for war? Turn enemies into allies or destroy their self-confidence? It's more complex, sophisticated, and open to out of the box thinking.

Just try not to blend the two. It leads to the kind of thinking where IRL humans are just baddies to be destroyed and that's not a line you want blurred.

The human torso seamlessy transitioning into the padipalps in place of her legs is actually the best kind of spider girl design

The padipalps serve 3 purposes to spiders, eating food, which is impractical with the mouth high up with the human face.
Administering venom, which spider girls are too large for venom to be a better attack strategy then physically overpowering quarries.

Which leaves only one purpose they are all too perfect for, holding their mate in place~

I think you're vastly overstating the effect of one survivor dying in the hunt phase. I've had plenty of hunts with a dead hunt phase survivor or 1-2 round showdown phase death come back just fine. And even if it doesn't a wipe is not the end of the world in this game. Maybe a wipe plus a bunch of other bad luck on top of it, but just a wipe by itself is basically nothing you're going to have 1-2 of those a campaign anyways. The game is way more forgiving than you think it is, and survivors (especially early) matter a lot less than you make it out to be.

It's actually more the loss of 8 resources if things go south that I would find back breaking than losing the survivors in the early game. But my own biases of being historically unlucky in my own campaigns is bleeding in here, I am certainly an outlier for early game wipes.

>introduce 3 friends to the game
>one of them decides to play as a bard and crafts the whisker harp
>proceed to roll the 1% instakill event during the hunt phase
>now "the bard" gets to sit on their phone for the entire showdown (with a non 0 chance to abandon playing the game after that entirely) while the rest of us struggle against the quarry because fights are balanced around 4 survivors, not 3
Amazing game design, bravo :^)

making changes in a tabletop game is like modding on a video game, you don't have to mod every little thing, just change some annoying stuff and thats it.

Every once in a while there's a thread popping up about how badass and stronger 40k's setting is, but big time professional question ironically raised by an autistic friend of mine at the pub yesterday:
Could the Imperium sucessfully afford to invade and take over Kirby's planet?

>just attack from a distance
His warp star has outrun FTL capable starships. Yeah he can be hurt by apples but whispy woods is low multiversal

True.

False. Name the weakest setting you think can beat Kirby.

The Imperium could absolutely take Pop Star up until the point Kirby notices and eliminates them. Kirby is EXTREMELY powerful, but he isn't omnipotent (he's actually kind of stupid) and he's quite lazy. Kirby's desire to "solve a problem" is directly proportionate to how much it's personally inconveniencing himself, his lifestyle, or his immediate friends. Once Kirby "locks on" to a problem though, he's like a pit bull: he won't let go until he's completely resolved the situation, as he understands it.

What people don't really understand about Kirby is that his power over Empathy means he has to match power escalation. Kirby, canonically, possess an infinite source of power, but it's entirely reactionary: King Dedede stealing all the food in Dreamland (the province, not the planet/country), and then challenging to a boxing match, is just as much of a "threat" to Kirby as that Gene-Stealing Super Organism in the recent game wot tried to kill Kirby by dropping a planet on the planet he was occupying. These are equally difficult situations for Kirby.

In criticism of fecto elfilis, it didnt do any real work smashing forgotten-land into popstar. It just opened the portal, the roche limit is doing all the heavy lifting

No comment on how hard it is to tear open a planet-sized interdimensional hole in space-time though
