>>97205220seems like you (or the person you're getting your info from) is blowing that pretty far out of proportion. ashes did get an overhaul when it relaunched in 2020, but that was the only time. there have been a few cards since that got errata or FAQs, and they've updated the tournament packet a half dozen times, but that's all pretty normal shit for a game still getting new sets. especially one that's managed to stay eternal with no bans as its main format.

DM cards are fucking BONKERS. (If a creature is under it, treat it as a Neo Evolution Creature, and when it would leave, all cards under it leave instead.)Blocker Blocker ■ Speed attacker■ Mach Fighter ■ Double breaker■ Whenever one of your creatures wins a battle, look at the top card of your deck and put it into your hand or mana zone. Then untap all cards in your mana zone. This is a four drop in all reality. Like Bolshack shenanigans aside the power creep is fucking insane. two new players, three long time players. we were supposed to do a new one-shot. Everyone just kinda... sucked? I feel like I was doing my normal GM stuff but they were all so dumb tonight, couldn't think of basic solutions to any problem. we got through maybe 1/3 of what was supposed to be a one-shot. what do you do when players suddenly become retarded? game was barbarians of lemuria btw.
>>97206104they’re friends but i’m not gonna just yell at them or discourage them because the strangest thing is that they’re being very present and active and like making lots of rolls and asking lots of questions but still with all of that they’re just being… retarded. like they can’t figure out how simple clues connect or they’re asking the WRONG questions. it’s bizarre.

>>97206447When you inspect the floorboards, you see someone has carved a schematic into the wood. two squares, one labeled “ARMZ” and another labeled “BUKZ”. Two arrows are drawn between the two squares, each pointing at the other square, and between the arrows it says “NITZ”. in this dungeon below a castle, the players have already been inside a stockroom, a torture chamber, a library with a locked section that couldn’t be opened, a brewing chamber, and a stable. they are currently in an armory. there is a suit of armor holding a halberd on the wall. knocking on the wall, there’s a hollow sound. mapping the area would reveal that yes, you have already traveled in that area behind the wall (you should be able to intuit what room is behind the wall) Players couldn’t figure what the inscribed message was trying to tell them.or like: you are searching for a lost dwarf-mason’s apprentice. He’s a child, and you learned there is a mine nearby that is using child labor. after some effort, you manage to get ahold of one of the child laborers. do you ask this child-laborer if he has seen or knows anything about the missing dwarf-mason’s apprentice? yes? okay because the players didn’t.

It's kind of hard to tell what you're getting at here with the way this is written and a lack of context and info the players would've probably had.

>>97205876Eh, I don't think 5e is an awful first game *as a player* and *with a half decent gm*The bigger problems with 5e are that the GM book is dogshit that basically just tells you to buy a Dungeons and Dragons©™ campaign, and then all the campaigns are dogshit railroads that need a complete teardown to be useful.Honestly, if you're a first time GM, you should snag So You Want To Be A Dungeon Master, its the only book I'm aware of that actually has concrete, fundamental advice on how to prep and run a game, regardless of system.

>>97202424>look man you're ignoring a lot of what I'm saying for the sake of implying that my setting is something that it is notI can only react to what you put out there. It's not like you've expressed anything that sounds novel or unique for the players. You describe them in the vaguest terms. There's a treaty that means players get firearms and mechs that suck compared to even the most basic of military gear for ???? reason. You get to play the exciting adventures of some dudes who are expressly restricted and restrained while risking their lives to fight monsters for rewards, but the rewards are also explicitly diminished and downplayed and have a permanent ceiling over them. The military even has elites and forces of tanks that you've never described in any capacity or worldbuilding beyond their ability to stomp down hunters. This is something I expect to hear from a bad game of warhammer fantasy roleplay.>you play as adventurers, and you hunt monsters!>the local lords men in full harness could effortlessly destroy them, but they're doing other, more important stuff>you're not allowed full harness and pollaxes as well, only they can have them. You have leather armor and copper weapons.>if you act up and rock the boat the local lord will order his knights on barded horses to destroy you all, such hubris for mere monster hunters!

>>97195334What aboutElves are the original spirits that inhabited the world going back to the most ancient times before any mortals were created. They awoke in the chaotic early world at the same time as the gods. When the gods created mortals out of clay and mud, Elves already populated the world in every corner. They started stealing mortal children and possessing them, turning them into physical elves but still very long lived compared to any human.
>>97206179I like the IK origin for them. Humans actually came first, but were an accidental creation by their creator god. The elf gods looked at humans and decided, "Not bad, but we can do better."

>>97198382Nothing. If you want to read or play it, you don't need to ask this question. If you don't, no one is forcing you to. This is a passion project, the translator has to find the book, scan it, and then translate it. It's an extremely labor-intensive process, and there's no profit in fan translation. The end goal is simply to archive the work and let people outside Japan know about an entire industry that’s otherwise cut off from global trends.

>>97206214Editing is one of the hardest parts. I have so much to say, and attention spans are so short! I do feel like my past CYOAs were a bit overly wordy, which I'm trying improve in this one. >>97206360It says nothing about 'rare' materials. It says later on it focuses on acquiring materials, but it doesn't describe them as rare, unlike living forge that specifically calls out a need for rare ores. Conceivably the needed materials are not rare for your level. Sure if you are at stage 7 you might need materials that are themselves stage 7, but it doesn't specify that there is a need for rare materials.

>>97206221If you find it works in the next one, could you update your prior ones with origins/species?
>>97205120I'm surprised there's no mech suit item or orbital platform / ship item? Also the Need More Guns item talks about how your sidearm won't stay effective for long but there's nothing to suggest you actually *have* a side. The "skin against the world" option for humans is only the encounter suit / armor, it doesn't state it comes with a weapon of any sort. I also think it's sort of strange that the Need More Gun option actually has *less* guns than it originally did, since it used to include an SMG. Personally I'd suggest adding an automatic rifle / machine gun to the Need More Guns and actually clarifying that a sidearm & ammo comes with the "a skin against the world" item.In the "keep off the grass" perk it says "sign is your vision" when I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be "sign in your vision".
>>97206530I thought about the mech suit, but there was already spidertron. I could offer a choice between them. For guns, I suppose it's a matter of preference but there's only so many you can carry. I considered a space platform or even copies of planets as warehouse attachments, but didn't add them. I might need a way to provide the more advanced resources the chest doesn't provide though. type fixed.
