seems like you (or the person you're getting your info from) is blowing that pretty far out of proportion. ashes did get an overhaul when it relaunched in 2020, but that was the only time. there have been a few cards since that got errata or FAQs, and they've updated the tournament packet a half dozen times, but that's all pretty normal shit for a game still getting new sets. especially one that's managed to stay eternal with no bans as its main format.

The bigger problems with 5e are that the GM book is dogshit that basically just tells you to buy a Dungeons and Dragons©™ campaign, and then all the campaigns are dogshit railroads that need a complete teardown to be useful.

Honestly, if you're a first time GM, you should snag So You Want To Be A Dungeon Master, its the only book I'm aware of that actually has concrete, fundamental advice on how to prep and run a game, regardless of system.

I can only react to what you put out there.

It's not like you've expressed anything that sounds novel or unique for the players. You describe them in the vaguest terms. There's a treaty that means players get firearms and mechs that suck compared to even the most basic of military gear for ???? reason. You get to play the exciting adventures of some dudes who are expressly restricted and restrained while risking their lives to fight monsters for rewards, but the rewards are also explicitly diminished and downplayed and have a permanent ceiling over them. The military even has elites and forces of tanks that you've never described in any capacity or worldbuilding beyond their ability to stomp down hunters.

This is something I expect to hear from a bad game of warhammer fantasy roleplay.

Editing is one of the hardest parts. I have so much to say, and attention spans are so short! I do feel like my past CYOAs were a bit overly wordy, which I'm trying improve in this one. Being interactive does help in some aspects (ie only describing an interaction between two choices if you've selected both, reducing clutter). It says nothing about 'rare' materials. It says later on it focuses on acquiring materials, but it doesn't describe them as rare, unlike living forge that specifically calls out a need for rare ores. Conceivably the needed materials are not rare for your level. Sure if you are at stage 7 you might need materials that are themselves stage 7, but it doesn't specify that there is a need for rare materials.

I'm surprised there's no mech suit item or orbital platform / ship item? Also the Need More Guns item talks about how your sidearm won't stay effective for long but there's nothing to suggest you actually *have* a side. The "skin against the world" option for humans is only the encounter suit / armor, it doesn't state it comes with a weapon of any sort. I also think it's sort of strange that the Need More Gun option actually has *less* guns than it originally did, since it used to include an SMG. Personally I'd suggest adding an automatic rifle / machine gun to the Need More Guns and actually clarifying that a sidearm & ammo comes with the "a skin against the world" item.

In the "keep off the grass" perk it says "sign is your vision" when I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be "sign in your vision".

I considered a space platform or even copies of planets as warehouse attachments, but didn't add them. I might need a way to provide the more advanced resources the chest doesn't provide though.
