Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97165346Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: https://pastebin.com/JNnj79S5 (embed) (embed)https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgComment too long. >>97369676Is there anything is this world that isn't flesh?
Sci fi setting giving all the missiles bug names. Right now I'm torn on one, a smaller defense missile meant to intercept and destroy larger ones, between calling it the Fire Ant or making a Big O reference by calling it the Louse and giving it the military jargon code DOR-03.What name sounds better?
Since my cosmology is fundamentally gender essentialist, women can't really *use* magic, but they're the only ones who can pass it on. The only way to be a Mage is for your mother to be a Mage as well, even if she doesn't have any control over it.However, they can still use wand magic because it's technically the wand doing the magic, a common loophole that allows governments to use 100% of their magical population......but I don't like this explanation. Magic in my setting works on the principle of the Soul commanding the Body "inside" the Mage, and therefore the Mind commanding Matter outside it. It makes no sense for a wand, a material substance, to do Magic by itself.
>>97345235I wasn't aware phosphorus could be found on asteroids. This changes the dynamics of things like you say when people mostly focus on precious/rare metals as the target of asteroid mining. To that end, say there is a reliable way to ship these products back to Earth (whatever isn't getting sold and used by the spacenoids first). What effect would this have since you mentioned the bottlenecking?
Would I be wrong in saying that magic being hereditary would make eugenics an inevitability?
Clerics having wizard-like magic powers (in the vein of D&D and dertivates) is too over the top. How can I make their abilities more subtle?
>>97362388Have you tried playing a game without magic where everything is just the same as real life? Or maybe skipping the middle man and just going outside?

>>97371475Dungeon Crawl Classics I think had a spellcasting system that made it work well. Where you can try to cast a spell whenever you like, but if you roll poorly, you lose access to that spell for the rest of the day.So trying to call upon divine magic too often will result in your god no longer giving you handouts until you do your morning prayers. Not perfect, and there are probably ways to improve it, but it's much better than either having it freely available or just using the same slots/points of more typical spellcasting.

>>97371189The Fellatio Research Club, naturally. Also holy fuck the new catchpa is fucking awful.
>>97372842People will do anything other than learn how Pokemon breeding works.
>>97373186Wow, you're really into sucking cock.
>>97372274Temporary basis is an eternity for an omnipotent, and the jumpmaker even acknowledges it:>Do remember that this option can be cheesed hard but have fun. There are absolutely no restrictions on setting or character, which is wholly and unambiguously reddit-tier.
>>97373492Nah, Reddit-tier would be allowing them full access to their powers all the time.
So I bought this as I really like Conan 2d20 System and I was surprised that system appears to be very rules lite compared to Conan 2d20 or WHFR 4E and a lot of rules and stuff appears to be on GM to flesh out. Usually i pay for RPG books because i don't want to figure out how much damage or to hit modifier some fancy sword has but in Dune core rulebook, its precisely that, book demands that i figure it out instead of giving me stat blocks. may be its just I'm retarded, or this system is lazy slop cashing in on movie craze?
>>97370135Oh nice. These are the guys who did Star Trek Adventures, which I think is fuckin' rad. It's very much roleplay focused w/ action decided through tests that further a narrative, rather than crunchy stats. Star Trek is, I mean. I liked the way it set up scenes as decision points as the adventure progresses.Haven't read their Dune, though. Star Trek was easy because it's intentionally reproducing the TV Episode format. So sessions/adventures had a flow that they were supposed to follow. The fact that it's Modiphius gives me enough confidence that I'd like to read it. I love the Herbert-Dune. Can't say what it's like. If they've gone w/ the no-crunch sorta style Star Trek Adventures does, then I think that the secret sauce is going to be "how are adventures set up?" I'd start by reading that section, OP. If it's crystal clear how an adventure can/is-supposed-to flow and puts that on solid ground for the GM, then I'd assume it'll work very well like STA does. If it's more "I dunno like D&D but in Dune and stuff" without any crunch? I'd be nervous about it.
>>97370135I don't know if it's good, but I know I'm definitely not interested in it.
>>97371999Why not?
>>97373482because only 2/5 of the characters in the art shown are white males.
>>97370135Only have read the first 3 books of the Dune series and there might be enough stuff for them to run with. But, I know there are sort of time periods in Dune that are all pretty different so it also matters when in Dune things happen. Plus everything that happens is mostly because Paul and his son are so superior that they see a specific path for humanity to take for the success of humanity and basically manipulate everything so that it happens according to their plan. But holy fuck Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are not good books. Messiah truly feels like you're reading something his was contractually obligated to write without having much of an idea on where he wanted the story to go and feels like he's just meandering about trying to figure it out. Children of Dune feels like Herbert finally figured out where he wanted the story to go, but still sticks with secret incomprehensible plan to laymen and readers must be stuck to

>>97373110>>97372969Auré is absolutely right about experimenting. You'll never learn the ins & outs without seeing what happens when you use x instead of y. Just make a handful of prompts changing fabric materials to see what it makes, or lighting or styles, try out some uncommon colors like burgundy or vermillion, also know that with declarative statements you can just prompt nonsense stuff & get cool pics. What does a gnarled ultraviolet cheese tree look like? Prompt it & see. Maybe it will help you jury rig a hard to make prompt later on.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help: >n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0 >Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128 >Need a starter dungeon? Destroy All Humans is the only good MTG related thing to be produced in the last 5 years.>>97373408Volume 6 just came out. 7 and 8 are preorder only I believe.I grabbed a copy of Volume 18 + Promo from some ebay seller in Japan because I want the WoG promo but I'm also going to be buying the English volumes as they release too. It's a cute manga and makes me nostalgic for better days.

>>97373221Creative use of first strike. Like, I have no attachment to TMNT beyond "I kinda like a couple of the games and Last Ronin seems cool" so I'm just judging by flavour and mechanics best I can. I don't really get the flavour of the ability without knowing the source for this specific version of Shredder, so.
