Appropriately, Blood Angels Red over a white undercoat makes a nice starter for bright Second Edition red Blood Angels, but cleanup afterward with Evil Sunz Scarlet is essential.

Baal Red is just a really intense red Contrast paint. I find it less useful for basecoating Blood Angels than Blood Angels Red (duh?), as I find myself going back and adding shadows afterwards with Agrax Earthshade anyway. At least I don't have to fiddle so much with the basecoat's viscosity.

For a bit of variety boshed together a couple of xenos mercs for my corsairs - a Kroot with dual machetes and a Squat with an arc welder. I figure the Kroot's along for the ride and free meals and provides handy corpse disposal, whilst the Squat provides percussive maintenance and help with his arc welder 'WD-40' - if it doesn't move, he can make it move.

I wouldn't say I have a particular favorite archetype, as each is compelling for their own reason. That said, while I do have an affinity for monks and the martial arts, the Martial Artist feels almost pigeonholed compared to some of the other, more flexible offerings like the Crime Fighter, Gadgeteer, Mystic, Summoner, or Totemic.

Beside the mass combat rules in the DMG, does anyone have some homebrewed stuff or way to handle combat with a good amount of identical foes. The final fight i'm planning for a level 5 adventures includes mercenary/bandit and 5 acolyte wizard.
Each grouping shares the same stat, but I'm hesitant on trying out grouping initative, as if they roll high, it might lead to the pc getting ganked on and get 6 attack on their face in a single turn. the resolution of attacks+spells and all of the rolls that would feel overtly long
the fight also includes a big mob of peasant (a swarm with a lots of HP) led by a crazy priest; the group of mercenary is led by a wizard with 3rd level spells; and there some pseudo environemental hazard, being a giant half blind vulture, a angry bull and a swarm of groundhog which will upturn the ground (knocking anyone prone and making it difficult terrain). Overall, its intended to be pretty chaotic, and the pcs will be able to turn/direct foes against each others. They are lvl5 so I'm not that worried about the straight up difficulty of the fight but i'm afraid that it will drag on a bit if I don't find a way to streamline the mercenary group rolls

There's no reason a god couldn't talk to a level 5 paladin. They don't typically do that, but consider the flip side. Every single cleric (and some divine soul sorcs) has been personally chosen by a god even if they didn't get a direct message.

It's highly improbable, but at the end of the day if you don't respond to the prayers of your handpicked, most loyal followers ever then it gives you a bad image. You probably don't want that when there's 100 other gods that are tangibly real and people could switch to with enough incentive.

Dude don’t recommend texture paint slop or contrast slop. Let him learn the fundamentals and traditional ways of doing things so he can grow into a skilled painter instead of a contrast slipper/textureslopper.

OP I recommend you buy a can of primer and watch some YouTube videos on priming. After you’ve primed your models and they have had time to dry, you can begin painting. Again watch intro YouTube videos to learn basics about thinning down paint etc. if money isn’t an issue get a wet palette.

Focus on learning the basics first, base coating, highlighting and brushing. Once you can do those to a good standard you can start looking into contrast/speed paints and learn how to make glazes etc. but get the basics down first. Also don’t stress, this is a relaxing hobby and no one judges beginners.

But, no, seriously, this just one of those things that WotC has half-assed for decades now when it comes to following through with the natural outcomes of the spells and abilities they put into the game. There's no reason for allegorical HRT potions and all that ridiculous nonsense when the game comes prebuilt with the explicit inclusion of spells and abilities that would allow people to change how they look whenever they want.

Cheap magic items that let nobles make themselves prettier or more handsome would be all the rage. Every single one of them would carry a little prestidigitation charm that instantly cleans them and makes them smell like fresh roses. Cosmetic magic for poorer people, permanent shapechanging magic for the wealthier.

That's nonsense though. Clothes haven't got weirder and weirder over the decades or centuries, they change in cycles and don't deviate all that much in basic design. A few rich people wear weird shit on special occasions to stand out, but mostly they wear something like nicer versions of what everyone else wears.

Wannabees have always been annoying. At my LGS in the early 00's there was an MtG neckbeard who would come around the Warhammer tables and brag about having this Tyranid army that would totally whoop ours but he always had some excuse for never bringing it in.

And with RPGs it's really counterproductive to discuss games with people who don't play. And they always give themselves away too because they think every game is like Critical Role or an idealized dungeon crawl based on secondhand stories.

because /tg/ is now moderated according to principles of advertiser revenue and engagement, rather than being a message board where rules like "keep threads on-topic" and "don't screech names at each other" are intended to facilitate discussion.

i've tested this multiple times. although my earnest intent is for /tg/ to become how it once was. i even LIKED some of the older off-topic stuff: e.g. the rage threads, even if Twilight books are 100% off-topic. it was on-topic 'in spirit'. a moderator would have to actually lurk and understand the culture (or, more likely, they'd just ignore everything).

overall, i think the janitor system was a mistake. that, and the general shift in the internet. i'm honestly surprised drawfags aren't covertly dropping their Patreon links by now.

The advantage at anything below 1400 ELO is about 5%. Once you get to master level then you have a valid gripe because it's something like 40-20-20 white win, draw, black win. You are not at this level though.

Cute af. It's even protected by a knight. Some positions on Chess960 have unprotected pawns, which is annoying. I'd add one more square though (alpha5?) to allow for the two steps forward and en passant shenanigans.

When it comes to generic game systems, where do you stand in terms of your preferences on the spectrum between "provide detailed simulation rules for every conceivable scenario in every conceivable setting" (e.g. GURPS, BRP) and "provide rules abstract enough to be equally applicable to every conceivable scenario in every conceivable setting" (e.g. Fate, Cortex)?

I don't like generic game systems.
The higher-detailed ones are limiting to fantasy, where the idea is that the player(s) can decide on whatever functions they want. Even acknowledging the fact they can be pieced together, they often end up being too much of the same thing. Take a little extra time to curate and make something you and any group you might have would want. That's a big benefit of this medium.
The less-detailed ones, meanwhile, aren't games.

I'm a big fan of fate for it's flexibility and abstraction.
Frankly a majority of problems that other systems have are solved in Fate while only introducing a few minor issues itself that boil down to playing with bad faith players.

I don't know about Cortex, but I'd actually argue fate isn't about providing abstraction as to be applicable, it's about providing a specific kind of gameplay loop. The central mechanic in fate is the fate point economy, so a game is going to fall into the groove of "PCs get fucked over early on either by circumstances or their own issues, then rise above it and overcome challenges." Savage Worlds is a similar thing, it's a generic but it's mechanics are all going to lead to a gameplay loop of door kicking action movie shenanigans.

I really like a mid-weight sim universal. Unisystem, some varieties of D6, both great. Some narrative-y features (hero points, etc.) are nice, but may not suit the specific game.
I didn't like Fate, but I really enjoyed Cortex (though it didn't have staying power: you need to be done within 10 sessions IMO).
