>Dark elves exist to be evil elves>There's occasionally orcs that are noble savages rather than pillagers>Even dwarves have some evil equivalents like chaos dwarfs in warhammer and whatnotWhat would a "Dark" equivalent to gnomes be like? How do you corrupt a little jolly bearded man from the woods into something evil?
pretty sure Deep Gnomes are a thing in a few settings, and generally they're schizophrenic and disturbed by things that lurk in the deepest parts
>>97353846Gnomes are evil gnomes
>>97354009The Gnomes was published in 1977Paracelsus's gnomes have as much to do with modern fantasy gnomes as the dwarfs of the sagas have to do with Tolkien's dwarves"Gnome" has just become the standard English translation for a dozen different little guys from different European folklore

5 person Level 5 party.
>>97353633in theory this should be a match for four level 10s based on the CRin practice one fireball will nuke both ghouls and all four zombies, so by turn 2 its just the ghost and the mimics (unless you play into the regeneration i guess but even then sickening radiance is on the cards)ghosts are crazy dangerous, but they can only do so much attribute damage per turn and you have five people to spread the strainso if you have fireball or sickening radiance prepped, and you have a frontline with respectable CON this will be safely winnable. if you have a bunch of jank multiclasses or shitters who dont contribute to combat then this will probably get at least one of them killedbasically you'll know how it's going to go by the end of round 1
>>97353633Someone might die. Depends on how many resources they have going into the fight. Zombies are very swingy, if the party has plenty of radiant damage they’re pushovers but if they get a bunch of saves I’ve seen a single zombie tpk an entire level 1 party.
>>97353633If you want to make it less deadly have some of the enemies enter a round or two later or the mimic not do anything until it’s “triggered”
>>97354073Or have the encounter begin with the Mimics already in combat with the Undead. If the party start off very well, everyone remaining goes against them instead; if they perform poorly then they have Mimic ally until all the dead are down.
Stuff like this is super dependent on terrain and party makeup, this could potentially be a cakewalk if all the melee-only undead get mulched by something like Spiked Growth and there's just a ghost left to get focus fired with ranged attacks, or it could be instant TPK if they get surrounded indoors and somebody's unluckily paralyzed by a ghoul right off the bat. If the party has full prep time and knowledge of what they're facing and can set the battlefield, even at level 5 this is manageable. If you're just marching into a haunted house or dungeon they're probably losing at least one character.

>>97354332Yeah from what I hear paying users get the same, which is kind of funny to meI don't use it for more than character reference for personal stuff so doesn't bother me but imagine paying to use it for business and it just plain not delivering
>>97354327Grok's been giving me some pretty good results, at least. I can use the same general prompt format and get wildly different results with one or two word changes. I tried Gemini and it kept giving me essentially the same image over and over with very minute changes like weapons and armor. The same 5 soldiers, same pose, same canyon, same camera angle, same style. Just different armor or weapons or grass patches or clouds.

It is the year 199X. Your friends have just sent you a text message to your Nokia 3210, saying they can't make tonight's D&D game.Which of these games do you play, to single-playerly experience that classic 'dungeon crawler' feel?

We have all experienced the coming and going so GMs, Players and games; and then left holding the bag too start all over again at Square One. If and when you have to start over from scratch how and where (online) would you start I'll look for groups and games? There has been numerous reasons that would force someone to start all over again be it scheduling, life, work, people changing.
>>97349305Play solo with schizo oracle tables
>>97349305probably find a bunch of rando sites to advertise on, run oneshots and poach the good players for a proper game
i like how people have interpreted this in different ways.but i'd make it a black-and-white rule: no technology. or maybe, no technology for COMMUNICATION (print out character sheets, sure).one of those axioms like "don't eat any foods your grandparents couldn't have". it's folksy but if you omit keyboards and screens, there goes /tg/, Reddit, Discord, Roll20 (and the rest).you may even have to play games with your friends that you already know. (or the ones you'll make, moving to a new area.)
>>97349305I started from scratch after a nearly 20 years hiatus. I searched online for clubs and groups in my area. Found some kind of TTRPG meetup in the next town. Showed up. Everyone was at least 10 years younger than me, and everyone was only playing DnD. Found out that a local LGS was organising TTRPG nights. Signed up as a GM, and offered something that wasn't shitty DnD. Found some players - some were better than others. With a returning player who had the same interest as me, we founded an TTRPG club and rented a clubroom. Later, through sessions at our club room and at the local LGS, we found more members, and now we're running sessions regularly. My observation is that the whole local scene is extremely woke (small university town in Europe) - I constantly have to watch what I'm saying. Also, I need to include discussions about "veils and lines" and "safety tools" before sessions, otherwise some players start complaining online. There are also certain 1990s games, I can't play anymore because the woke players would get a fucking meltdown, or I would have to tone them down to a point I'd get bored. Another annoying thing is that players now are quite demanding. Before, players were happy you were running something. Nowadays, they come with bullshit demands (session zero, safety tools, finding dates 3 months in advance...), but show few discipline themselves (they'll ditch the session because they forgot about aunt Martha's birthday, or because they felt they needed to be alone, and if you complain you're marked as toxic). But, I must also say that "modern" players who are interested, tend to be more implicated than before. Their roleplay is better, they want to learn the system and the background story of the setting. Those are my observation, based on a relatively small sample.
>>97349325>>Check your local library or college for TTRPG clubsother anon here; did that, have now about two groups of teenager players; bad thing was for few years I were forever MG (still on plus managed to test near everyone RPG system I owned), but now they grew and are trying to GM on their own; major plus is I had willing players for historical and other wargames like DBA and Battletech
