After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

Sorry, I should have clarified better that I would not be running ALL of seasons 8-12 but using them as guidelines and idea resources to run the short campaign. As for how long, I was thinking maybe from levels 1 to 5. Some of the players are major skeptics to the systems (one player in particular) but they have agreed that if I were to run they would play but only for a short campaign to get a feel for how the system works and whether "it's as bad as people say" basically.

You do multiple ~15 min quick fights more for power fantasy and resource attrition. Blasting through a small pack of weak mooks with at-wills and maybe an encounter power lets the PCs feel strong while giving them a few nicks and bruises to eat away the their healing surges. This actually heightens feelings of progression and they also give bigger fights a greater sense of gravitas and grandeur compared to every fight being a 1+ hour tactical slog.

Guy who learnt his techniques as a kid and has to match hundreds of years old paints, glazes, finishes using materials which he has often has first to source the raw materials for, many of which haven't been made for centuries, before he can try mixing them without knowing the exact proportion of ground, pigments, solvents, binders, other additives, size of pigment particles, how they will be affected by the need to layer, apply a surface treatment, sand down, match texture, artificially age, let alone all the other work he does in reconstruction and repair before he can even apply the colour since all of those will affect the colour matching.

Lists of increasingly-wonky techniques on the Monk versus throwing big numbers into "default" rules until things get wonky on the Fighter versus using an actual skill subsystem that bundles functions into areas of proficiency that get wonky when you're That Good with the Rogue.

"Weaboo Fightan Magic" is an old pejorative for the Tome of Battle supplement for 3.5, back-porting a later-abandoned 4e prototype into a subsystem with classes substituting for the Fighter, Monk, and Paladin. It has stuff like covering your sword with a jet of flames for extra damage and reach at 3rd level, generally once per encounter due to the refresh mechanics but being 3.5 there are naturally shenanigans to loop.

Before WotC got the IP, it was expected that higher-level characters eventually got positions of political power lording over increasing numbers of class-appropriate NPCs, which grounded the scope-creep of enemies surmounted in actual setting influence which in turn compensated for the proactive value of spellcasting by letting the Fighter send dudes to get things done in a number of places simultaneously because the casters became bosses of a lot less dudes. In the earliest versions, this directly cited the wargame preceding D&D called Chainmail for resolving combats with dozens to hundreds of participants.

I meant out of combat, sorry should have clarified.
I'm aware about the weaboo fightan magic but as it's written it looks like it'd have the usual awkwardness of the fighter and potentially also the monk sitting around whenever its not killing time while rogues and wizards solve everything, unless the GM gives the fighter a bone and he gets to punch a big rock.


I think every class should have a decent degree of application in and out of combat encounters. Overhauling the skill system a bit would help (Don't base skill ranks gained on INT). But also just giving every class some abilities related to non-combat action, just as tracking and survivalism to the Ranger/Fighter.

I liked Wild Beyond the Witchlight. It was a little bit too lolzrandumb and modern, but it was still good. Way better than Curse of Strahd if you ask me. The carnival was very kino in my imagination.

Both Enforcers and Squat had influx of releases in short period of time and that sparked interest in new players.

Enforcer is the most request gang for a long time due to them carried a legacy of being overpowered in old necromunda, their pop culture reference to Judge Dredd, and their status of being the police in a criminal gang wars game, making new players more attracted to them.

The original design of BF:G isn't a tournament game. It's a campaign game. A lot of the other elements descend from that. There were two types of fleet: "Battle" fleets, and "Raider" fleets.
In the original version, the Imps and Chaos were the Battlefleets, with a couple of special scenario units (the BSFs and Planet Killer, Marine allies).
Orks and Corsair Eldar were Raiders, whose fleets were meant to cap out at about 1k point rosters. Marines were purely allies, and never meant to be a coherent fleet at all.

But hey. Eldar were the main antagonists in Space Fleet, and we have some ideas. So a battleship and a few more light cruisers wouldn't hurt for funsies. And here, have some neat shit in the Journal we based on kitbashes people put together.

Then the Armageddon campaign came out and they needed to make Orks a battle fleet, Marines independent so the Bangles could have the Best Vacation Ever, and oh hell the Imp Navy has been good so they can have some more neat shit like that all-Lance BB we've been joking about for ages. But that means Imps have too much flexibility? Time to introduce sector fleet rules!
Anyway.
Tau were not-quite Battle fleet testing the modular fleet concept, with options for sickos to use them in campaigns; Forge World didn't get the memo and made their own. Demiurg are (like Marines) an Ally fleet, and as Forge World they got abandoned immediately. Necrons have always been an "experimental" Raider fleet because they never quite nailed down the rules and everyone fucking hated them. Nids burst in fully-formed as a battlefleet with modular fleets, and Dark Eldar were intended to be Raiders using the same ideas. Mechanicus was a straight replacement/upgrade option for Imp Navy players who liked more elite forces (taking the Marines' usual design space). RT were also an Ally option with a single ship, that sort of got tied into the Tau/Demiurg/wolfpack because they were all coming out at the same time

Most games are mechanically built around uncertainty enough that there are going to be outlier rolls and results that necessitate mixture. You won't be able to sustain too much anything you listed. Even if its all detached or ironic people develop attachments and emotional affiliation with all sorts of shit by accident so in a campaign players and the gm will start to care even if its suppose to be casual.

Its all engagement bait for YT 4chan AI storytimes and its making me so pessimistic about the death of creativity, imagination and the loss of the sense of wonder humanity once had.

Aristotle inspired multiple generations of philosophers and create an entire subset of soft science through the reverberation of his work through the ages

Galileo revolutionized science and payed the ultimate price for his so-called 'insolence', dying at the pyre, speaking a truth so bold and so utterly mind boggling that the Pope himself sent him a letter to shut his mouth about the idea that 'the planet is a sphere'.

Alright presented with as little bias as possible.

Puckee621 is a Redditor (actually unironically not in the memetic sense) who commissions a lot of fantasy art with a peculiar style that tends to be a bit recognizable.
He's relevant to /tg/ because he at some point acknowledged on his account that he was regularly sharing his commissions on /tg/. Unfortunately rather than using a character art thread and lurking moar, so to speak, he used a specific pattern of starting threads with a basic tangentially related question with the art, but mostly just abandoned the thread afterwards.
This low quality posting style led people to notice that pattern and start to catch on, especially considering he talked about it on reddit iirc.
Nowadays he's become the new windmill to tilt at thanks to "Bumpfag"s popularity declined. Whether the guy is still the one spamming or it's imitator trolls trying to stir up resident board police is questionable.
