Necromancy Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. What do you guys think is the most horrific lore bit in Trench Crusade? Honestly, not in a dark way but in a really fucked up way. Skincrawl stuff.
>>97398056The vast majority of the Black Grail stuff but especially the diseased pigfucker, that one Church of Metamorphosis short story where a captured Faithful refuses to tell them of how their defenses work so they just decide to crack open his skull and read the information from the spasms of his dying brain, Sin-Eaters conceptually, etc. I think the more freaky or gross out shit hits harder for me than the more overtly dark stuff.
>>97398056That people are born into a world where a common fruit that people eat essentially melts them, where cannibalism is so commonplace these there are open air markets for it, and even worse things and they still choose to support that way of life. The total disregard of human life in the hell controlled lands is the most banally horrific aspect. I love it
Rule 1: In order to become canonical each post has to pick up something that has already been established by someone else and build on it. Only in this way can something new be added.Rule 2: Keep it within reason and don't break the immersion for everyone else. Rule 3: Have fun.Starting with a rough premise to set the tone:>Players are bug-headed-investigators collecting evidence of a vast, hidden control system that governs reality. >Detective work involves getting high on insecticide, cut-up-techniques and orgon accumulation. >The "Mugwumps," the "Reptiles," and the "Grey Officers" all represent control entities that feed on energy. >Don't trust 'em. >They are bureaucrats of a gnostic, alien order.>Be aware of the insect archons! >They are parasitic deities that can manifest as viruses (biological and linguistic), addictive substances or bureaucratic control. >Create a detective and expose the hidden patterns of the manipulators!
>>97397832The 'many' being everyone. The alien overlords have already won, but refuse to admit their true existence, even to themselves. The reasons are various. Some fear competing aliensSome have forgottenSome believe the charade is meaningful in itselfSome fell in love with humanity and no longer want to return to their original selves.
>>97397832The end goal of all this self-deception is to trick reality into making you a human.Naturally, this is a pretty esoteric goal and hard to accomplish wittingly.Game mechanics involve subliminally programming yourself so you can do manchurian candidate shit without breaking your own self-delusion.
>>97398483>Game mechanics involve subliminally programming yourself so you can do manchurian candidate shit without breaking your own self-delusion.kino
>>97398483The player simultaneously tries to maintain the belief that he is human while attempting to decipher the dark workings of metaphysical manipulation. I like the Antagonism in that. I'd suggest the player needs to take antipsychotics at regular intervals, or even morphine in emergencies, to maintain this illusion. It gets harder the deeper you journey down the rabbit hole. This could be implemented with a value similar to the Mental Stability System in Call of Cthulhu.I think a secret conspiracy in which people are processed into food and sold in supermarkets Idea stolen from Onions Green would fit well into the dark schizo noir atmosphere.
>>97398859I think in order to make it work you need to have a certain degree of separation between the player and the character.Hell, maybe you have two character sheets: One for your bug person when he's lucid and one for when he's pretending. You have to do a balancing act of time between either persona, tactically code switch, shit like that.

Did you know that in 1999 Dan Abnett did a comic that was basically a wholesale rip-off of 40k except the main character was this vampire lady that he had all the other characters constantly talk about how sexy she was.It had a feudal space Catholic empire that oppressed mutants, and even had elite warriors with implanted organs and cybernetics using weapons called bolters. Later Dan Abnett had the MC tame a bolter warrior with her vampire pussy.

>>97398659>Isn't Wells a guy from the XIX century? I think war of the worlds predate 40kNope, 40k is the ur-myth that all sci-fi is based upon. Some other common examples are Star Trek and Star Wars, which are both heavily flawed attempts to borrow some of the concepts of 40k and change from grimdark to something more optimistic.

It seems as though it's been a good thread for games, so I may as well contribute too. I played a 2000 point game against dread Cathay today, the first game of the new year, in fact, and it was a pretty great time all things considered. The usual suspects made up my army, but this was also the debut for both my daemon prince, Dehumanizer, who was wielding the Rod of the Damned, the Tome of the Dark Gods, the Armour of Meteoric Iron, and a favour of the gods, as well as my exalted champion, Ormos, who held the Cackling Blade and two favours of the gods. My opponent brought a rather toned-down Cathay list, by his own estimation, with a shugengan lord, a gate master with the monkey stick, whatever the BSB is called, one of those accursed cannons that can shoot twice and also apparently remove swiftstride and impose -1 movement for a turn, a block of jade warriors, two blocks of jade lancers, a sentinel that can cast a fireball at +3 (why can it do this, GW?), and the much-feared sky lantern without the drive-by bombs. Dehumanizer was using the lore of daemonology and rolled Daemonic Vessel and replaced the other 3 crap spells he got with The Summoning, the Blue Fire of Tzeentch, and Fleshy Abundance thanks to the TotDG. Quorthon had a lore familiar and took SoS and both DVs. Apparently Cathay can take High Magic, so that's what my opponent had. Isn't that supposed to be a high elf & lizardmen thing? It doesn't really matter, let's get on to the actual game.
>>97398741As always, I deployed like a donkey. My thought process involved my hounds starting the battle in a marching column so they could zoom across the battlefield & get in the way of stuff, but this backfired spectacularly as you'll see later. I have no idea why I put my knights there, they were set up for failure from the start. My other units were more or less fine, but I keep making the mistake of deploying my chariot wrong and not being able to get any value out of it. Meanwhile, my opponent clearly knew what he was doing because I can't find any mistakes in his deployment. I took the first turn and the shenanigans began.
>>97398780While my dogs were busy getting mulched by the shugengan lord and his stupid deer-dragon-horse mount and my daemon prince was obliterating the sky lantern with a constant barrage of magic missiles, my chaos warrior death star, which had taken heavy losses from both the sky lantern's shooting and cannon fire, made a stand on the hill in the center of the board and got double-charged by a unit of jade lancers and the sentinel. Ormos rolled a six on the Cackling Blade's attack roll twice in a row, taking two wounds as a result, and proceeded to peel the jade lancer champion like a potato in a single round of combat before proceeding to annihilate the rest of the unit alongside his fellow slaves to darkness. Quorthon continued his streak of somehow failing to do the one thing he exists to do and barely managed to eke out a single casting of Daemonic Vigour. You continue to fail me, Quorthon. Perhaps a new sorcerer ought to take the reins. Anyway, though the jade lancers were slain to a man, the sentinel was pushed back without suffering a single wound. Said sentinel would proceed to get charged by my forsaken next turn, who attacked the giant statue eighteen times and somehow managed to inflict not a single wound on it, and stomped all five of the pathetic fools to a fine paste in a single round of combat. This catastrophic failure would result in the sentinel overrunning into my chariot, which obviously did not go well and was a sign that I was quickly losing control of the game.
>>97398828My knights fought valiantly against the shuggy-wuggy-whateverthefuckit'scalled, but despite charging the perfidious cathayan half-dragon with their lances they only managed to inflict a single wound. I don't want to complain too much right now, but why does this thing get to have better saves, more wounds, better spell lores and better army lore spells (that it doesn't have to pay a tax to take) than a daemon prince for way less points? The jade warriors were there too and they provided enough static CR to force my knights to flee, which resulted in said knights getting pursued, caught, and executed. While this was happening the sentinel smashed my chariot to bits and Quorthon miraculously survived two cannon shots without taking a single wound. He may be a complete failure as a sorcerer, worthless in melee, and very ugly, but clearly the gods love him.

But they don't make new ones, because they aren't actually of us. They aren't proper newfags, they just new and fags. Given how long it's been, I can't really even say they're all that new. Is it morally wrong for jumper to auction his used panties to his viewers and not warn them that they'll turn people into femboys?
>>97397701I think the real question is, is it morally wrong for him NOT to do that.
I have been spending the past couple days getting my ass beat in Master Duel trying to make a slifer deck work. So what did your Jumper do in Yugioh (Any Yugioh Jump)
After playing both the original Shandalar and the 2016 update version I've come to the conclusion that magic was just more fun in 1995 when it was more loose and relaxed. The kinds of decks you go up against in the 2016 version are so much more ruthless about shutting down every play you make that the only way to compete is to be an even more obnoxious dickhead and make sure they never get a chance to do anything. Every victory was bitter and spiteful in a way that I never felt with the older simpler Magic cards.
>>97391365This. We have dozens of one-drops that would have costed 3 mana in 1994.
>>97391721none of those things are actually in shandalar 96 you realize
>>97391365>>97393552Power creep is definitely real, but you can prove to yourself that it's not the most relevant factor very simply. Take any of those overpowered/undercosted one-drops and just throw him in a deck with a heap of commons and uncommons, like a ten year old would if he had to build a deck out of the ten boosters he'd opened in his life. It won't be a very powerful deck. You can do the same with Force of Will or Black Lotus, however powerful a card is, Magic is a game about decks not cards.
>>97393522well yeah, it doesn't have to, which is why I said it'd be funny, not smart. Maybe a little interesting, but certainly not the ideal solution. You wouldn't need JoTC, just a small handful of autists who can recognize what components make up most non-keyword effects and one turbo autist to make something that parses oracle texts into chains of these components. And of course, the engine and ui to work with these parsed oracle texts.
>>97354218what 2016 update?

If and when you have to start over from scratch how and where (online) would you start I'll look for groups and games? There has been numerous reasons that would force someone to start all over again be it scheduling, life, work, people changing.
Start over in current year? I don't. I take one look at the low quality garbage that focuses entirely on pandering and realize its not a good hobby.
>>97350211Only if you are friendless loser that any actual table would vet out right before even meeting for the first game. Which is part of the reason why nobody sane wants to play online - the only players out there are (You)s
