I know it's a spam thread but I wanted to contribute with my knowledge of Warhammer Fantasy.

For starters none of the tenets of the religious cults in the Empire (Ulric, Sigmar, Morr etc) explicitly mention chastity. However:

-In official material (Enemy Within Vol III) we learn that priests of Ulric have to take a vow of chastity, and many resent this. "Sigmar's Heirs" clarifies this further, explaining that ALL priests have to take this vow and not just high ranking ones.
-The Cult of Sigmar is not a monolithic organization but a large collection of smaller cults, so it is possible that each cult has its own rules on chastity. That said: no Warrior Priests, inquisitors or religious authorities within the various Sigmarite cults have ever been described as married, having kids, or being in a relationship in any official material.
-I've read somewhere that the Cult of Morr also enforces celibacy but I couldn't find this on any published materials.
-Regarding the colleges of magic, "Realms of Sorcery" tells us that: the Amethyst and Light Colleges ban their students from having sex; The Amber and Grey Colleges do not have clear rules regarding celibacy; the rest of the colleges do not care.

Technically RAW sympathetic casting in 2e always uses the connection from caster to target, so you have to cast Borrow Threads first to borrow the connection from the Sympathetic Yantra, then you can do the spell as long as you have all the prerequisites you just listed.

You can design a system around them, it's all about what serves the experience you want to design.

For example, let's say you base the rules on something simple like on rock paper scissors: rock could be stab/block, paper could be slash/feint, scissors could be riposte/parry.

If you need to invent a mechanic for the name, then probably less necessary. Mechanics first, then fluff.

I've always been a little confused about the difference between Blocking and Parrying. The definitions seem to vary depending on whether the subject is hand-to-hand, swordmanship, if you've got a shield, etc etc etc.

I do think, though, that having more options is usually good. Tactically interesting, y'know?

So context. I used to DM for my friends a while back but I've been struggling with creating a game I'm happy running for a few years now. It's not the end of the world, we do TCGs instead but part of me wants to get back into running tabletop games.
So I started DMing with DnD 5e but for my own reasons I stopped running the system. The only other system I'm really confident running is Mutants and Masterminds 3e.
Lately I've been seeing videos from some of the old school types talking about the nature of dungeons, and I've also been reading Dungeon Meshi, and I've had the itch to try making a mega dungeon for a game. Thing is, I don't wanna run 5e, I'm not confident trying to run an older version of the game, I don't have access to the books for OSR. What I do have is Mutants and Masterminds.
So my friend and I were talking about this, and he suggested exploring the idea of running a dungeon crawl in M&M. Now to me that sounds a bit absurd, they're so tonally dissonant I can't really imagine it, so I thought I'd bring it to you guys. If your GM came up to you and said "I'm running a dungeon crawl in M&M", what would your thoughts be? Does it sounds a good idea? How would you do it? What would you emphasise, what would you ignore?

Well Mutants and Masterminds is inherently a superhero centric d20 system. It's meant to be a high powered system where you're on par with any of that marvel/dc tier stuff powerwise. The recommended starting level allows you to make characters that are on par with top end superheroes. Compare that to the old school dungeon crawl, where it's a game of resources, a game of strategy. You stick the Hulk and Iron Man in a AD&D dungeon, I'm not crazy on supers to begin with but I don't see them losing a fight against a dragon, or having to worry about the worry of locked doors and chests, of having to fight in the dark, just superheroes seem too high powered for a typical down to earth dungeon.
I like M&M for its flexibility in character creation, you can make some cool shit in there, and the way it's all flavoured you can technically run anything with it. I just don't know if the mechanics that allow for epic superhero battles are fitting for a dungeon that's meant to wear you down over time, like there is a injury system to slow them down but I just don't know if I trust that it'll scale well for the more down-to-earth fantasy exploration thing I wanna try running next

Probably 2nd edition. It has advice on powers, items etc that would be helpful for any sword and sorcery m&m game.

I played one game where we converted our D&D characters to M&M. I personally liked it. Especially thjngs like exerting yourself for more powers felt thematic. However D&D is designed around resource managment like spells, HP, healing etc. M&M is easier to break, and has very different design goals. A lot of the powers from M&M are pretty weird in a fantasy setting.

I'd play a mega dungeon with M&M. But I would go in expecting something more like a conan comic in a badass mega dungeon than a gritty slog. Mega dungeons are best when they have differ factions opposed to each other and maybe the characters have to choose a side.

So I should definitely make sure to incorporate human factions with interests in the dungeon. It's the sort of "missing the forest for the trees" thing I would miss, monsters are fine but I need to make sure I include human interests.
As far as powers go, most can be flavoured as magic. The only one I can think of off top of my head I'd have a problem with would be 3e's immortality powers. Are there any glaring ones I'm missing? Like I said, been too long since I last ran a game, a touch rusty on the old memory

I would suggest that wounds are either serious or non-serious. In that case only hit location matters regardless of the target. Serious injury to your right arm and you aren't using it for the rest of the fight. Serious injury to your head or torso, you're in death's door. On the other hand, enough non-serious injuries to either and it will be the same as having gotten one serious injury. This would be true for a human, goblin, wolf, dragon, etc.

Damage numbers aren't required for this at all, you could determine it entirely from some roll of weapon skill, contested or otherwise, considering reach and defense/armor, etc. But this doesn't even count as the beginnings of game design. Maybe the entire premise of what I said disgusts you, but I'd be curious either way.

Perhaps because the latter make me want to play something more game-like while the former scenarios drive me towards more simulationism.

Now, systems for figuring out hit locations… is a field I have a lot of room to grow in as a designer.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.

Sorry, bad math, doubly aspected is -40% so you'd get the cost to be 6, making it 16, making me wrong.
and yes, there is a pyramid article about impulse points, 3-100; pp 4, Impulse Control.
And I thought "player guidance only" was -40% but it's actually -20%, so I'm doubly wrong.

OK, found it. Impulse Buys from Pyramid 3/100.
Serendipity is not doubly aspected, since Serendipity is explicitly stated to cover all kinds of Player Guidance. It is only aspected.
Even if it were doubly aspected, that's a -40% limitation, reducing the cost of two levels to [6], which would be more than Serendipity 1 even if you only had to pay for one level of Enhanced Refresh.
But you need two levels of Enhanced Refresh to refresh both your points every session. So the total cost is actually [28], almost twice the price of Serendipity! I think to be fair you should allow Aspected on the Enhanced Refresh too, which brings it down to [24], but Serendipity still looks like a bargain in comparison.

You only need one level, since the basic impulse point already refreshes every session.
