>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

Drew up my map for 5 leagues after using a generator to get the initial landmass and landmarks. It's surprisingly fun. Haven't done something like this since I was a kid.

Also we need to behead whoever came up with the captcha of the dots in squares. I keep forgetting I need to read the prompt.
>>
>>97256068
I've been meaning to give 5 Leagues a go. Seems up my alley. Unfortunately most of my larger terrain is with my dad still (he made a lot of it) so I'll need to put together some more unless I want every encounter to take place in a dungeon or campsite.

Yeah it's been cool so far. I need to get more experience with the combat though. It feels a bit weird with the 3 clash thing and basically everyone can die instantly if the roll is right. I think I prefer rangers of shadowdeep combat. I wonder if I could use the combat from that with the campaign mechanics from 5 leagues or if it would break everything. You'd need to redo every item, so might not work.

How does it compare to Xenos rampant for example?

Was just using Patchwork from the beginner box and it worked well enough. The mix of light and heavy woods seemed to help get cover modifiers and movement fairly easily.

The lore is easy to grasp at a surface level, and retarded but unimportant otherwise.
Once upon a time there was a Star League. Some fat shit advisor from the edge of known space betrayed the First Lord in a palace coup. General Kerensky and the Star League loyalists kicked his ass, but were then so butthurt by the Great Houses having no interest in giving a shit that Kerensky took a big chunk of the army and fucked off. The Great Houses were: Space Viking Japan, Space Anglo-French, Space Russo-China, Space Balkans pretending to be the HRE, and Space WWI Germany.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Succession Wars blew up everybodys engineering and physics text books, helped by the meddling of Space AT&T.
The 4th Succession War happened when some mercenaries found a pile of textbooks that had not been nuked, so now war was fun again. The Space Germans and the Space Anglo-French made a super alliance in the name of peace and then immediately raped the Space Russo-Chinese. Space AT&T was mad about this for reasons, and helped create a buffer state between the Space Germans and Space Japanese by giving the Space Vikings independence.
Then the ancestors of Kerensky's Star League army showed up as Space Mongols and they had a weird society of tribal totalitarianism but everybody* forgave the writers for this because omnimechs and battle armor is totally rad. Anyway, war was now even more fun, so there was even more of it. They made a 2nd Star League that was more or less just an alliance to not be buttfucked by the Clans, and as soon as they fixed that they went back to hating each other, and the Space Anglo-French and Space WWI Germans broke up. Then, why not, the extremists of Space AT&T nuked everybody, which is actually fair if you really think about it. War was fun again, so there was a lot of it.
We're not going to talk about the Republic, except they fucked up and lost Terra to Clan Wolf, but on the bright side, war is now fun again, so there is a lot of it.

My favorite thing with IM is you can make a Lightweight Xenos Hide Vest (or bodysuit if GM allows, but is reasonable) & per the suggestions & rules of the game it would be a rating 6 (8 if also Mastercrafted) with the Subtle trait, meaning it would stack with other armor. Meaning you could (with great time & effort) create an full armor stack of 16 (even more with Augmentation & such

Genuine question, there’s no real answer to it, mostly looking for opinions for the sake of narrative flavour for my game. What is the connection between Cegorach and the Deceiver? Are they the same being, somehow? Are they connected? Is Cegorach just the Deceiver’s longest ever deception, or is the Deceiver Cegorach’s biggest joke? Or have one of them pretended to be the other, on occasion?

>>
>>97257643
It's about as busted as being a Machine Trait Admech with a bunch if Unnatural Attributes in FFG

Nothing wrong with a bit of broken power gaming. Something I was pretty disappointed in is that they didn't take the time to make gear more... bespoke(?) In the Requisition Guide. They did that in the 4e Warhammer Fantasy books, the item traits & stuff are VERY heavy handed. Like how shields can be destroyed in one blow & not even having the durability trait can save it completely. This means shields are pretty shit to invest it

2e is a better game than 1e. Goes for more cinematic mechanics than simulationist which fits the theme given it is all about building your character's story and legend to godhood. Pick 1e, 2e, whatever homebrew lore you want since the mechanics can accommodate within reason.

Trench Crusade has been a fucking mess since its very inception. Anyone with any sense will have nothing to do with it.

Whenever you go to stores, look around for random bullshit that you can just buy and turn into terrain. Electrical switch boxes, birdhouses, pringles cans, pvc pipes, shipping tubes, toy playsets, a container of peanuts that looks vaguely fuel tank shaped, etc. You'd be surprised how many of these items can be turned into nice terrain pieces if you just paint them, texture them and glue random shit on like straws, foam bricks, 3D printed doors and windows, corrugated paper, cardstock shingles, etc.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

50% chance of hitting the vitals vs. 84% of hitting the torso isn't exactly a no-brainer though. Although the vitals is usually better from a pure 'DPS' perspective, and the penalty for stun and knockdown is great, having a higher chance per turn of inflicting significant penalties on your opponent is also a pretty big deal. This applies even with better (effective) skill; the difference between an opponent who has a 10% chance of successfully shooting back at you and one who has a 2% chance is enough that I would usually be willing to take more turns to bring them down.

>>
>>97249676
1) is of a lesser concern
2) this is where the problem lies:
>no DR
>everyone is a bullet sponge
>if someone gets knocked down how long does it take to wake up?
>how long does it take to regenerate the sponge? (canonically, serious damage gets characters a sick leave for a few weeks)
>how to calculate crits and actual wounds?
>>
>>97256616
It's an OK reference sheet, I don't know how it holds up as an actual screen.

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

>"How do you do Ace Customs? Are there any? Do they have improved performance, or are the exact same as other mechs with a different finish?"
In Mekton Z, you can build anything (pretty much) so you could just design a version of whatever grunt unit that's little better. Faster, more maneuverable, better armor or weapons, whatever.

There's also "Maneuver Pool," which is a metacurrency pilots developed when their Piloting skill gets above 5. There's a Mekton tech feature called A.C.E. (Actuator Control Electronics) which multiplies a pilot's Maneuver Pool. So an ace pilot with a Piloting of 7 in a grunt unit would have a 2 points in his Maneuver Pool, but in an ace custom unit with 2.5x A.C.E. would have 5 points in his Maneuver Pool.

The Gundam RPG that was based on Mekton Z actually called the A.C.E. system "Ace Custom" and called the Manuever Pool "Ace Points." I thought was a great idea and I wish I'd thought of it.

Trying to do my first volumetric marine.
I had to stop here before finishing the initial blending pass because I paint with a battery powered light because I live in a third world hellhole, and it died. But I'm trying to really #trusttheprocess here, so I only had 2 colours on the palette anyway, so picking it back up to finish the armour should be pretty straightforward.
>finish blending as best I can
>add some more secondary highlights and edge highlights where it makes sense

He isn't supposed to be an ultramarine, this was supposed to be more on the grey side of things (no chapter in particular), I might see what options I have for the trim that might make it look a little less blue in contrast.
