It's a long story; Cousin's visiting fiance from overseas only plays EDH and enjoys opening booster packs. I hate opening boosters because nothing in them is ever worthwhile, but he asked what boosters I would like as a Christmas gift and have wanted to try F&B for a while.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

I watched a Nassif video earlier today and I noticed one person asking him for advice on "which premodern card to invest in". Speculators are bottom feeders.
>Why don't those guys running the premodern events just allow proxied decks as long as they look good?
Most premodern events are proxy friendly so long as they're in colour, obscure the card the printout is placed in front of etc. The issue arises when a WPN store tries to host a premodern event because they can't allow proxies for "official" events, i.e anything run instore using companion app. My LGS is WPN and we tried to set up Premodern events there but we ended up having to play at different stores because LGS was not proxy friendly; obviously, that's simply not practical when dealing with expensive RL cards like Survival for a niche format, or tracking down a bunch of some obscure common from Tempest when we live in a small, geographically distant country.

We're now getting similar numbers for premodern as we are for legacy at least. Printouts are fine as long as they're in color and completely obscure the card behind them. I ordered a custom printout of Survival Infestation just to have a nicer looking deck though.

AS 2" = hexmap 1 hex
>>
>>97243444
Of course not. We know roughly that an LRM needs to be able to fly at least at 63 meters per second to reach out to its listed range in hexes, (21 hexes-- 30 meters across-- in 10 seconds). This abstraction at least holds that its average speed cannot be less than this and its maximum speed must exceed this. In short, anything we re-derive from the simplified model of reality on the tabletop can only be relational assumptions based on defined parameters of the game's logic. Any breaks we witness that are not explained by the system or setting must be assumed to be the edges of a simplified simulation and not binding principles of how reality operates.

If we apply the largest possible scale of rules to battlemech weapons (space rules) in which hexes are 18 kilometers and rounds are a minute long; the effective range of a ground unit being limited only to their own hex means that the LRM fired by a LCT-1M teleported into the void by a cruel and unjust god, by virtue of reaching the other side of the hex in the round would have to travel at least 300 m/s; which means it STILL isn't assured to break Mach 1 at sea level. It would be supersonic at 2500 meters above sea level by estimate.

So, depending on who you ask, LRMs travel at upwards of 60 meters per second or upwards of 300 meters per second. We can't guarantee they'd travel 300 meters per second on the ground because of gravity and drag, but we know that any missile classified as such is doing at least this in either environment if it is capable of doing so in the environment.

The LAM example doesn't even prove universally; it only proves that the LAM is equipped with missiles that can do both.
>>
>>97243558
Does all that mass take into account soft launch time and all of the complexities of how a missile functions? You're also making the very bold assumption that every single missile flies in a perfectly straight line directly towards it's target, when missiles today even have to jump up to get a top attack on it's target.
>>
Meant to say math, I should go to bed
>>
>>97243582
It does only in the respect that these are minimums. In a most ideal world they would need these speeds to reach a stationary target at the maximum extent of their ranges. We are assuming a perfectly spherical cow.

I have the inkling that 300+ m/s seems like an appropriate ballpark, as it makes them about as fast as as a number postwar anti-tank missiles.

>>

Talespire, it's pricey and it makes you pay for players, but it looks pretty, it was a holdover from a previous game that I just kept using because my friends already had it.
>>
>>97242560
that's interesting. I mostly use Foundry and build maps with DungeonDraft but that looks killer as a way to make games super immersive
>>
>>97242566
It is, it doesn't have any automation so you have to do everything out of the application, but it's fun to use, you throw dice around and by the end of a session you have a massive pile of dice around the board where people make their rolls.
>>
>>97242535
Nice work, anon. Do all your players have accounts, or will you be their window into the map? If the latter, then you may find that slows things down a bit as players ask you to adjust the camera or remind them which tokens are which.

Map 1: I presume you have a time limit (standard 6 rounds?), but is there anything keeping the PCs from climbing or smashing through the buildings to either side of what I assume is the minefield?
Map 2: Looks good, and I like the deployable structure idea. I take it the tan section around the command building is "safe" from the artillery, which can potentially strike anywhere else?
Map 3: Will the PCs have time to refit between this and the previous encounter, in order to equip aquatic mobility kits? (Regardless of the answer, I'd like to congratulate you on the look of this map, very cool!)
Map 4: Pretty neat all around

What LL are the players at? I'm guessing 4 PCs at LL2 at least?

>Setting
Basically late medieval to early Renaissance Europe
>Magic
Not really available to players, expect in the form of extremely rare high level magical weapons and items. BBEG should possess magic abilities
>Player characters
European presenting male fighters only, maximum one low level hedge wizard or shaman
>Races
All NPCs and PC should be human, finding a non-human village like elves should be extremely rare, unlikely, and magical experience

you know that's a fair point, you see plenty of stuff outside fantasy, but fantasy is almost always dnd kitchen sink. I've tried to run slightly different fantasy games, but 90% of players will still play as if standard dnd fantasy tropes are the case so it's very hard to wrangle them off it. The solution I've found to get people out of that head space is to mandate from the GM chair what kind of characters everyone is playing, if you say "alright, everyone is playing an elf of this type" it's much easier for them to accept and learn the elf culture of your particular game and they're ready to accept the tone you have on offer, where's if you say "ok make whatever you like" they're going to come into it with DND standard brain no matter what you throw at them.

why do you want to change their preferences? how do you know you're not the one who needs to change?

The idea of ONE setting superior to all others is pretty revolting. Variety is the seed of creativity.

similar to you OP, although i'd want some fairytale shit here and there. not so much that it's high-fantasy with lightshows and freaks running around, just that in the game rules' encounter tables there are pixies. the average joe only hears rumours of them, but he'll also never enter a dungeon.

wizards are rare, but players' lives (and game time) is short. create a world that doesn't care about the group, but is fun to explore.

Picrel:
>human only
>no modern sensibilities injected (was written during the '20s)
>mythic past (it's literally our world pre ice age)
>civilization vs barbarism theme, blood and steel primordial truth
>tech level between stone age and late roman age
>magic subtle yet powerful and corrupting
>lovecraftian horrors but you face that shit with enough grit and determination, even kill them

Boy! Let me tell you of the days of HIGH ADVENTURE!

I feel like this edition has alot of objectively bad things about it and is absolutely where the alot of worst qualities of current editions showed up. But I feel like I prefer playing this edition compared to a lot of previous editions and 10th edition. Its a weird transitional period where there's still a lot of the old units that haven't been legended yet while still having the fucking Primaris lot. Its strange but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much staying on this edition and playing with friends casually instead of going back to playing the current edition.

I will say that the stuff that was broken in 7th, everyone knew it was broken and the people I played with wouldn't play with it unless both sides knew the gloves were coming off.

I had a lot of fun that through that edition, but all I ran was a CAD with a Sorcerer, 3 TSon squads and ~500 points of heavy support. I did not win much but 4++ and fearless on the Rubrics meant I would have models on the table at the end of the game (unless I got swarmed by orks or D-Flamers happened) so losing did not feel terrible and they could kill MEQ in the open so I could do some damage even if they were slower than molasses in the snow and were hard capped at a 24in threat range.

5th ed represents the changing of the old guard, it was the first edition where the OG designers didn't make it. It has some good, it has some bad. Some example:
>5th ed adding universal runs was a nice feature.
>5th had better mixed cover save and simple wound allocation rules, but way worse complex unit rules to the point many considered it game breaking.
>I liked scattering blast templates in 5th.
>4th had better combat resolution mechanics
>I like the 6" area terrain rule in 4th (but at least 5th still has area terrain rules, they removed this in 6th ed)
I cant remember a full list, I should make one. But I do remember doing a throughough side by side read through once and coming up with about 70% of the time I preferred 4th edition to the change.

I think most of the hate from 5th comes from the codices, which granted had tons of flavor but bad balance. 4th (with some 3rd ed books) was more "stable".

Yeh that was sad. At the same time though, its a great book. If I had to pick id go 4th over 3rd for orks. The shock attack gun and weird boy were awesome. And deffkoptas are cool as fuck.
