Is there an archetype that'll let me play a merchant that just relies on hirelings for combat?

I'd rule the weight bearing word is ANY in
>...the weapon's fundamental runes are replicated onto any melee weapon you wield...
to keep the costs as low as they need to be. Juicing one weapon and armor is enough of a gold sink already.
>Blazons https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=1221
>...the secondary weapon gains the benefit of the fundamental runes...
Gains the benefit, no rules contradicted.
>Spells
The spells are already fairly useless outside of level one. If anything, I'd buff them (maybe even combine them into one to cull the spell list) so that they're useful even for runed items.
>>
>>97276459
Yes, Captain is what you're looking for. What to use as the base class for merchant is the hardest part I think.

How's my Runic Body fanfiction?

Range touch; Targets 1 willing creature
Duration until your next daily preparations
-
Glowing runes appear on the target's body. The target gains a +1 item bonus to AC and unarmed and weapon attack rolls. If the target gains similar benefits from armor runes, the target also gains temporary hit point equal to the spell's rank when their turn starts. If the target gains similar benefits from weapon runes, the target gains a damage bonus equal to the spell's rank the first time it deals damage each round.
-
Heightened (3rd) +1 item bonus to saves and increase the number of damage dice to two
Heightened (5th) +2 item bonus to AC and unarmed and weapon attacks
Heightened (7th) +2 item bonus to saves and increase the number of damage dice to three
Heightened (9th) +2 item bonus to AC and unarmed and weapon attacks
Heightened (10th) +3 item bonus to saves and increase the number of damage dice to four. Double the amount of tHP and additional damage.

For 1e I am thinking of making a homebrew witch archetype that hands out a buff to convert negative energy to healing for their allies.
What is the best way to limit this from being busted.
1) Less Healing?
2) Limiting the number of people that can benefit from it
3) A combination of the two?
4) Some other thing?

I bet if I was a Sisters of Battle or Sororitas or whatever fan, I'd be pretty disappointed they were getting ignored.
But yeah, Disney taught me a long time ago not to get too attached to works and franchises from mainstream companies, especially when those companies are so ready and willing to alienate their fanbases, then be acerbic about the sudden influx of "toxic haters" their behaviors created.

SoB are hardly getting ignored in favor of Femstodes. Female Custodes don't even have models and the book in question takes place several thousand years before Sisters of Battle would even exist.
>>
>>97277100
Sisters are very well supported by Games Workshop with a lot of new models released in recent years. You just think they are ignored because you never see ragebait posted about them.
Female Custodes, by contrast, has had zero models released, ever.

May I please simply have a wholesome sfw piece between two throwaway OCs I had in a game session I participated in many years ago?

This is Dea; the brown tomboy gal and her high elf husband Estromo. Can I please have a picture of them preparing for their upcoming child/children? Dea is a couple months pregnant wearing a house dress and Estromo is reading a pregnancy or child care book. And they're both chillaxing in the room of their future children with a crib and baby toys visible in the background, if you can.

I genuinely love this game. Mike Hutchinson has made some bangers but this is probably my favourite. Solid ruleset and a kitbashing wet dream. As others have said, there is something uniquely satisfying about customising old Hot Wheels cars too.
>>
>>97249677
>first lap is weapons-locked
usually just the first stretch between start and checkpoint 1. Also if you car can't survive a collision and then abuse the "go through whatever you collided with" rule, you deserve to be buried in the pileup.
>>

1 car 1 buggy, put some front rams on the bug and front gun on the car, place 4 checkpoints so the fastest path is a king of criss cross x| thing, put something in the center, and just let your players loose at the mostly open terrain.

What are some other games you recommend? I'm new to minis
>>
>>97276192
In no particular order...
The Doomed - Very simple, but solid ruleset. Pretty much Monster Hunter the tabletop game. Fun solo game but if you can get 3-4 friends involved its fantastic. The lore/setting is implied rather than set in stone and only there to give you kitbashing ideas
A Billion Suns - Criminally overlooked space combat game
A War Transformed - The better Trench Crusade
Forbidden Psalm - Mordheim for dummies, but don't let that put you off. Can be played in Coop or solo too
KillSampleProcess - As above but cyberpunk themed
Here's The Ruckus - Medieval, historically accurate-ish skirmish game. Very well balanced, unlike a lot of skirmish games
Zona Alfa - Stalker but tabletop. Plays well out straight out of the book, but its a good foundation for homebrewing

I'm drawn to Cain because of several elements:

The Mark of Cain.
City of Enoch.
Destined to Wander the Land of Nod.Founded the Fist City.
Also, making Tiefling symmetrical to the Aasimar is compelling and gives a much needed myth gravity that normal Aasimar lack because they are less my grandpa had sex with an angel, I won the lottery, and more my grandpa were great heroes but also tyrants.

I'm making Magitek that runs off Rei Ayanami bondage.

>To elaborate, magic can only be harnessed by human thought in my verse. If you want to create Magitek, you need to somehow figure out a way to get some human to run it forever and ever.
>Their solution was simply to take a particularly excellent female Mage, clone her, and use the Clones as the main component in creating magic using Spaceships/Airships and Mecha.
>The clones are usually young girls that are engineered to be emotionless, submissive, and highly intelligent so that they can be turned into sapient tools. The real controllers (ie captains) are usually normal young male soldiers that subdue these clones to their will.
>The mechanism that harnesses the clones' power is designed to literally bind them and turn them into passive objects for the human controllers. The usual design is just the clone bound to a cross while dressed in a white jumpsuit (barefoot, of course) while the pilot sits in the seat and does all the actual fighting.

You could say the girls are basically just U.I. slash concubines for the male pilots. It's dirty business, but it works. And more often than not motivates pilots to fight harder so that their Core doesn't think they're cowards.

I only very rarely watch dice tower, but toms reviews always seem pretty good to me. Straight to the point, and he is able to convey what you might/not like in a pretty short time. He seems a bit apathetic but who wouldn't be if you play a new fucking game 3x a day for decades. My 2 cents: exploration, like written narrative, relies heavily on novelty. Not emergent one, but predetermined novelty, and boardgames are not only heavily limited in how much stuff they can pack into the box, it also gets ever fiddlier. Additionally, repetitive encounters/events/whatever due to lack of variety is much more of a deal in boardgames because you need to administrate everything yourself. Everything in boardgaming is more deliberate, all balancing issues are more severe etc. Where getting the same event again or encountering the same enemies a bunch of times is a minor annoyance in Videogames it becomes old faster in boardgaming. All in all I think ecplorative/railroaded narratives kind of don't work well in the medium, as much as I'd like it to. Boardgamings strength in that regard lies very very much in emergent narratives and stronger social aspect.

Stationfall is one of the most original design I've seen in years, I would play it everyday.
People disliking it because it's too chaotic have either done only one game, or played with more than 5 players. Playing it with 4 is just so satisfying, provided that everyone knows the characters' agendas and don't move tokens randomly.
>>
>>97276851
Space biff is the exact same shit. Just spewing filth onto a page because boardgamers want as many dead words as possible to feel intellectually superior by reading 50 words saying what 5 can

>>97276877
I will have to look into podcasts for sure. Anything that involves actual experienced individuals in the industry at the making games part is what Im craving. I dont tolerate the flood of uneducated unknowledgeable slop anymore. I dont want to listen to film school grads who never designed a game try to explain design to me. I dont want to read creative writers fellating themselves. I want the pure autism of turczi or uwe or knizia or other people with a resume bigger than 5 flops

Mid-Colonial Island Adventure Setup & System Help
Hello fa/tg/uys and a happy new year. I'm planning a new campaign and would appreciate your collective wisdom. I'll lay out the pitch and would like your thoughts, ideas, and especially system recommendations.
The year is roughly equivalent to the early 1700s. The players are new arrivals or long-term residents of an island colony. Mere weeks after their arrival it becomes apparent that no ships from the homeland arrive. Ships sent out for help or trade simply vanish. The colony is now utterly isolated. Resources are finite, society is beginning to crack, and the unexplored interior holds ancient secrets.

>Resource Scarcity
No contact with the outside world. Every nail, bolt of cloth, and ounce of gunpowder is precious. Gold is the main currency, and it matters—for buying scarce supplies, hiring help, bribing officials or mayby hiring trainers if gold can be tied to character advancement.
>Low-to-Mid Magic
Magic is rare. Players won't be casting spells at the start. It's something discovered in the forest ruins or bargained for with strange spirits mid-campaign. Church sanctioned magic is the exception with high ranking members of the faith having access to considerable magical power.
>Healers for Hire
There are a few lowly priests of the faiths that can perform rudimentary healing rituals but demand some gold or favors. This type of healing and warding, especially against diseases, is used by the church to maintain power and influence. They're NPCs, not party members, at least initially and the most common source of magic.
>Zero to Hero
I would really like for the player to start really low powered. More akin to semi-skilled commoners than competent adventures and it should take time for them to actually become strong and capable. I would like for them to eventually become big players in the island. Maybe even hold titles or positions of power.

Yeah something like that.
>>97271671
> what about monsters? you plan to have them in your game?
Sure, monsters are neat and beyond that I would really like to make the wilderness feel strange and dangerous, especially at the early game.
>cannibal dwarfs
Didn't know about them. They sound cool as fuck. I already had this idea of cannibalistic tribesmen like Bone Totem. These dwarfs could probably play that role.
>>
>>97271773
https://www.legendsofamerica.com/teihiihan-cannibals/

Yeah, they known as the Teihiihan, could be a scary dangerous encounter for the players to face
>>
>>97271773
If you want a Westmarch style 1700s game with rare magic then I would recommend two systems
>Old-School Essentials
A fan made expansion of pre-1e dnd. Has a big emphasis on sandbox play and factions. Early spell casters are weak, only knowing 1 spell. Explicitly tells you at what stage players should form their own settlements and have faction-level power
>ACKS
Same as the former, but much more autistic and granular
>>
Ok I am expanding on the idea a bit and bumping my thread.

>The Church of Unity
Official religion of the Empire. Actually the only religion in the empire. Their whole doctrine is that there is only one god and all other gods that were worshiped previously were either aspects of the one god and thus to be assimilated or demonic creatures from the outer dark to be destroyed. "Aspects" are still revered but not as gods on to themselves. The Church has successfully hoarded all magic knowledge in the empire and keeps it to themselves and locked in monasteries and libraries only to be used on imperial degree. Of course this isn't always the case.
>Apostates
Apostates are ex members of the church that gained magical knowledge but decided to leave the church behind in order to pursue their own goals or for other, mainly not dogmatic reasons. Officially they are not allowed to practice magic but rules are made to be bent. Sometimes even the Church procures their services.
>Heretics
Heretics are ex members of the church that gained magical knowledge and use it to spread heresies, false doctrines or to consort with demons. This individuals are hunted with extreme prejudice.

(1/2)
>>
>>97277072
Magic that comes outside the empire, like the one the natives use, is to be assimilated into the Church or to be destroyed.

This can create an interesting point of conflict for the Separatists since they will want access to magic but in order to gain it they would have to either get the Church(at least the ones on the island) on their side, hire Apostates willing to risk becoming heretics since working with the separatists could be seen in a very bad light, go straight for heretics and adopt another dogma or go to the natives in search of such knowledge.

Necromancy is considered the most vile of all magic since in requires a living sentient being corrupting the gift of life, the greatest gift the god of unity provides, for their own selfish purposes. Demons, technically not living beings, can't practice necromancy but they can corrupt mortals into doing so. Or so the Church claims. The Not-Aztecs are of course avid necromancy practitioners. All those bodies from the human sacrifices? Free menial labour and shock troops. They could play the de-facto "bad guys", raising dead and searching for more powerful and deprived knowledge in order to finally take the island for themselves.

>>97271790
ACKS seems interesting I should look into it. I was also looking into SotDL or Mythras. SotDL seems approachable but lacks XP progression that I believe is essential for a proper from zero to hero. I don't know much about Mythras but I like the classless approach.

>You all meet in the tavern of an isolated village. It's seven in the morning, and everyone is having their breakfast.
>You see in the corner a young man in studded leather chatting animatedly with an older woman in heavy armor.
>A young woman lets out a cheer as she beats a man of the same age in an arm wrestle. He wears a suit of gleaming gothic half-plate, while she wears a hauberk and gambeson. After the contest has ended, the pair enjoy a hearty meal of turkey and maize together.
>An old man wearing a ragged cloak over equally ragged clothes nurses a cooling cup of coffee while watching their antics, stirring in a spoonful of sugar after an exploratory taste.
>A woman sat on a stool by the bar takes in one last drag of her cigarette before she stubs it out in an ashtray. With that out of the way, she tucks into a pumpkin pie that is waiting for her.
>A man with dark skin pays for his meal with several unfamiliar coins, before brushing past you on his way out the door. He wears a vest made of soft leather over a loose cotton shirt, and has a long sword in a sheath strapped to his back, ready to be drawn at any moment.
>A young girl greets you animatedly and offers you menus. She asks if any of you were interested in buying some of the potato and rabbit stew that is currently cooking, or if you'd like rooms for the night.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

You are a schizo.

For what?
>Why would I want to do this? Nothing in your post makes it sound appealing or useful. Are you trying to convince people not to use this method?
A reason for you to like the idea?????

Anon, you're suggesting a new mechanic. Offering an argument for some kind of an advantage this new mechanic would have over other, already widely used, already well known, tested and true and familiar mechanics is not an unreasonable request. The anon(s) who spammed "why do you think it's incoherent" obviously has problems, but that's not the only guy who's asked you to make a case for your suggested resolution mechanic.

I don't want to play ball toss, I want to play an RPG you lazy sack of shit. Put your trash can away and read the fucking gamebook, since D&D was too hard for you we can play some BiTD one shot fodder like you enjoy

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

I've never touched the supernatural aspects of GURPS. What's the rundown on the different magic systems and what are their pros and cons?
I know there's at least three or four different ones, with the Basic Set, sorcery, imbuements and Ritual Path Magic.

Deck issue right now. I think it's getting really close to being something solid, but its missing something. More ways to interact with the opponent or consistent ways to remove problem cards beyond Retaliation, maybe?

There were 8 more Release of the Sealed Knights that I gave a playset to two of our players that play Chronicle. Hell I'm tempted to build it too.

0 Justimons and DGOs were pulled, I'm hoping to pull Icemons at least in the next set.

> Yes. But that is called "metaphor", not "science as actual magic".
All magic is a metaphor or stand-in for the unknown; magic is a proxy by nature the same way religion is; but the unknown isn’t unnatural

>Start by clearly stating what "steampunk" is
It's just a world where the main form of energy is steam power, and you add in fantastical tech to go with it. Who is arguing that?
>>

Opus Anima is by far the best and most original Steampunk game, I've come across.
But you can't play it since it's dead, out of print and in german.

I like Dark Earth as well.

Egypt counts man. Ethiopia also had some shit before they got kicked in the dick by their neighbours and never recovered properly. Now a lot of other Africans don't like them exactly because of their history, but that is besides the point.
