I really don't understand this mindset. There are pregen characters all over the source material.
Just pick a high level NPC and there is your decent build if you don't want to do it yourself.
why restrict the entire group and game instead. These games are meant to last years. An intimidated newbie today, in 3 years of playing might want to start branching out.

>Slayers D20 System
DL'd this through reddit, and HOLY SHIT this kind of system is almost exactly what I've always wanted D&D magic to be. I haven't read all of the spell descriptions, but even skimming a few pages suggest there are a lot of overlapping blasting spells? I haven't seen the anime, so I can't judge how well that mimicks the world of "Slayers", but it's always been the kind of aesthetic I wanted to see in D&D magical combat.
(Every charop board and discussion I've ever seen says "blasting is literally the worst kind of magic, playing a [magic user] who isn't starting every combat by turning into a grizzly-bear or Always Targeting Will Saves is wasting everyone's time". Dammit, I WANT the 'magical artillery' playstyle to be viable and fun!)

>>97314839
>Same as they are now. A lot of spells are way better than [they] should be.
A DM has the right (some might even call it an obligation) to take a chainsaw to content that doesn't fit their setting or campaign. Polymorph spells are a gamebreaker? Declare that the 'rules of magic' in the setting just don't work that way. Mind-control magic can't be used to bypass entire plots if it doesn't exist (except in hostile hands as a plot device).
Hell, it might be worth it just for cutting down on the 'magic-user analysis paralysis' that >>97308348 mentions.

I'm sorry anon, but I don't understand what you're saying in this post. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?

Are we in agreement that the Nation of Islam was founded by a muslim who was born in the islamic world, and decided to create his own islamic cult in america. Is your honest opinion then that there's no relation between islam and the Nation, and if so, how do you figure?

>>
>>97347862
The islamic cult is too far distanced from Islam to still be considered Islamic instead of its own new thing. You don't consider Islam an offshoot of Christianty because it continues the myth of Jesus, do you?
>>
>>97347965
Would I claim there's no relation between Christianity and Islam?
Uh, no, I definitely wouldn't. I don't think you would either anon, I think you're just arguing out of stubbornness by now.

I'd say there's a pretty strong relation, in fact a direct throughline from Christianity to Islam actually.
And I don't really think it's technically wrong to call Islam an offshoot of Christianity or a Christian heresy, it pretty much literally was. Offshoot sounds a bit belittling though, considering Islam is its own huge religion.

Any good RPGs for doorkicking combat? Something kinda slick but hyper lethal, letting the PCs take down most mooks pretty quickly but always having the chance to lose it all with poor tactics. yeah. i don't care too much about winning internet arguments, but i have had the following real-life /tg/-related arguments:
>that Erol Otus illustration is sexist, look at how he draws women!
pop feminist stuff, but i like the artist, i took the bait. we did kind of arrive at the whole 'it's art' and 'flip the genders' thing. mild concessions in both directions.

>Mordenkainen's Mystical Guide to Monsters (or whatever) has a racist orc description!
i am a stupid person who does not live in America. this began (i think?) with a Twitter user posting a screenshot about how orcs are 'violent savages' and 'take over' places, or some shit. the Twitter guy was vague, just 'um, that's problematic.'

i thought that was about Muslims. the whole Sharia idea. turns out it was actually an 'African American' stereotype. my generally Noam-Chomsky-ish friend told me this and we had a laugh about it, he changed his mind and agreed yeah it's stupid. let's keep using orcs in our games. (he won't agree with me that pig-faced orcs are better though, grr.)

>>97347932
Oh yeah, trannies are definitely their own worst enemies.

The effects of hormones vary by sex
Ftms get voice changes and body hair for free, MTFs have to train it and get laser. Arguably T is easy mode
That said, clit growth isnt exactly the end of the world. It seems to be universally agreed to be better for sex. A lot of cis women seem to get into it

the real-time cooldown of the PlayStation games wouldn't translate well to a tabletop game.

the Game Boy Color game is a surprisingly fun little RPG (very questionable character portrait sprites aside), sort of a Final Fantasy x Pokemon thing. it uses a standard MP/mana system.

points-based casting could work. spells in Harry Potter require learning and some level of concentration. i don't know if they're literally infinite (flipendo, flipendo, flipendo!) but for the sake of a game you could say "your Concentration Levels and Magical Energy are low. roll a d100 against Concentration. add your Magical Studies bonus, since this is one of your most-practised spells".
>>
>>97347975
>Ftms get voice changes and body hair for free, MTFs have to train it and get laser. Arguably T is easy mode
with that (can) come hair loss. i mean that's definitely masculine but it sucks for all men.

i still think there's a 'squeaky' quality to trans men's voices. friend's brother is just some short bald dude, early 30s, you 100% cannot 'just tell'. but then he talks and oh yeah, this is a guy who was born female.
>>
>>97347914
>it's not like steroids or something.
It's literally one of the most popular kind of steroids. And going bald isn't a major risk factor unless you don't use any aromatase support (plenty of people going on t for the first time don't think to, or can't, because t is illegal and they might not have a source for a second illegal drug).

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.

Do you understand what Print On Demand means? Do you understand that it is intended to create a proper book, and not just a text file vomited out onto a page like you pressed Ctrl-P on a forum?
>sentences and paragraphs broken across columns and pages even if there's enough space for them to not do so
>column headings awkwardly wrapped and oversized
That looks absolutely atrocious. I'm pretty sure I could feed a LaTeX rough into a random scientific journal format and get better results. Never attempt layout again.
>>
>>97345467
The benefit of EPUB/HTML/XHTML is that you can manipulate it easily, without having to spend a zillion hours/dollars on laying it out in Adobe InDesign as SJ Games currently does. It's a "sane default" that can be tweaked easily if you really care about how it looks.
>B-but it looks ugly!
I disagree.

The previous PDF can be considered a large-print version for people with bad eyesight. Here's one with smaller print that's closer to how the official PDF looks. https://litter.catbox.moe/sguru1z1mwtigfnh.pdf

>sentence and paragraph breaking still all over the place
>column headers still break in the middle of words instead of on the spaces between words
>tables still break over columns instead of trying to remain contiguous
You have fixed exactly nothing. It's really quite impressive how much nothing you've accomplished by changing the font size.
>sane default
A sane default would be building the content in LaTeX, to leverage its ability to take your content and drop it directly into a pre-prepared document formatting template with minimal work. There is a reason scientific journals use it to concatenate papers from multiple different authors.

You could argue there are several IRL examples of feudal or feudal-like countries with a somewhat modern army, ie. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or (arguably) North Korea.

Historically you could read about pre-unification Germany or the Austro-Hungarian empire and just give them better rifles.

There is a Star Wars conversion for Mongoose's Traveller. I have not played with it myself, but the base game Traveller is incredibly soloable game with plenty of solo support (name Zozer's Solo), and I can see Traveller rules working well for a more grounded smuggler/bounty hunting/mercenary/trader game - it might not be ideal if you are looking to play around with powerful jedi.

I mean they are clearly labeled at the top left of each one.

We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.

nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. You are going to see horrific debasements to the thing you know and love that you will still see with your eyes closed. Every 80 IQ person with internet access will have an opinion on Warhammer without knowing what a Tau Remora Drone is.

DoW4 will either flop or at best people will beat campaigns and uninstall it. Gay krauts will fuck it up, that's given, they clearly have no idea what they are doing nor do they feel the setting.
Whatever Cavill and Amazon are doing has a high chance of being so shit that it will forever mark 40k as bad and cringe for normalfags and thus halt it's momentum. Like Rings of Power or Netflix Witcher. A blessing in a disguse.
TW40k tho is a guaranteed massive success. Might be the most popular strategy game even, challenging HoI4. And it will live on for years.
Dark Heresy will do far better than other Owlcat games and most of other games in a genre, but it's still just an isometric crpg which will limit it's reach.
SM3 will be just SM 2.5 and so will do even better as well.
>>
>>97347153
>Dark Heresy will do far better than other Owlcat games and most of other games in a genre, but it's still just an isometric crpg which will limit it's reach.
Owlcat games actually put spotlight on parts of the setting that have a bit more nuance, complexity and grittyness instead of on another instance of heroic muhreen bolter porn, while still having plenty of your trademark 40k grimderp and fanaticism. So this is one of the very rare instances where secondaries wanting to get into the setting because they liked the adaptation a lot might end up being somewhat positive for the quality of the fandom.
Like you said though, it's too text focused, too autistic mechanically and not flashy enough to actually be a genuine big success, rather than just successful for a crpg
>>

i miss the days when adaptations weren't 'accurate'. i don't know why nerds automatically think loyalty to the source material = betterer film/show.

everyone likes Spider-Man 1 and 2 and it's fuck-all like the comics. and they made the X-Men wear black tacticool suits, that was the style at the time.

The Shining is supposedly very different to the book, and it's great. i've not read Rebecca either, but Hitchcock made a great film.

Certainly! It's the 2e Dark Eldar fandex by "Grim Squeaker" which tells me nothing, but it's built off the 5e+ dark eldar army list, I included a screenshot of the cover for reference.

Dark Eldar Fandex list 1500 points.

Characters:
Archon: 174
Strategy Rating 4.
Splinter Pistol, Frag Grenades, Blind Grenades, Plasma Grenades, Agonizer, Poisoned Blade.

Painbringer: +1 T

My rationale is to bundle the Blaster/Splitercannon squads in a pair of raiders and push them up the table to contest and harrass the shit out of things, while the dark lance squad hangs back to snipe heavier shit. Archon and incubi are in the last raider and the Talos will act as a counter attack force where ever I get bogged down by the enemy. Ravager provides highly mobile anti armour/anti terminator/meganob platform. And hopefully, this gets me a win, but the ultimate is to see how fun this particular fandex is.

I'd take the archon again, stripped down of wargear and shit, he'd be there to agonise something to death. I'd take a raider squad, but drop one of the upgrades on the skimmer for points, a smaller warrior squad to sneak around for some opportunity plays. List would look like this...

Dark Eldar 500 points.

Characters:
Archon: 99
Splinter pistol, Agoniser, ghostplate armour, plasma and frag grenades.

Squads:
Kabalite Warriors: 176
7 warriors with Splinter Rifles and frag grenades, 1 warrior with Blaster and frag grenades, 1 warrior with Splinter Cannon and frag grenades. Sybrabite with Splinter Rifle and frag grenades.

Kabalite Warriors: 98
3 warriors with Splinter Rifles and frag grenades, 1 warrior with Blaster and frag grenades, Syrabite with Splinter Rifle and frag grenades.

Unfortunately, it's V5 but the writers do have some interesting takes on koldunism.
It's free on ST Vault.
