>>97395215balanced scales are a good example of stasis when they are clearly unbalanced, as they are in the art for Stasis in which the whole point is asymmetry (literally the only symmetrical elements in the entire composition are the scales themselves and the ball the anubis is holding), which blends with anticipation (the anubis is clearly about to throw the ball, and the scale is clearly about to become unbalanced) that never comes because the moment is frozen in time (literally in stasis)

>>97400913You shouldn't get arthritis in your 30s unless you get a serious injury. In fact you shouldn't get arthritis anywhere until your late 70s if you take care of your health and body. You see a lot of fat slobs getting arthritis in their 30s and 40s because they have kept their bodies in a permanent state of inflammation their entire adult lives due to inactivity and stuffing themselves with industrial goyslop.

>>97400156How do you think people make TRPGs, anon?
>>97388443>encourages creatively inserting your character traits in every situation you canThis has honestly been such a weird mindset for me to get into when trying to play or run Daggerheart and somewhat similar games like Fate and Apocalypse World. I'm so used to treating the fiction as a "puzzle" like you said. When players are able to just roleplay away the mechanical weaknesses of their characters to minimal consequence, it feels like a flaw in the system. But no, it's the way the game is meant to be played. And that just feels, idk, anti-climactic? Unfair? Too easy?
>>97400156>lazy faggotsIf that's your take, I'd like to know what you think of the majority of gamers these days who seemingly can't even open a book without crying, who build their games from vibes and memes.
>>97395420Against human opponents, it’s true that any weapon actually used will be optimised for killing him in one good hit and more or less the same number of not-so-good hits. When you fight a wide variety of monsters, however, I can see the appeal of tracking just how much more damage than needed for a man your weapon can do.After reach, though. And probably after armour penetration or something to that effect.

>>97400951>I don't think being eaten from the inside-out by spiders is a fetishIt's also very close to something the Baali do in the opening story of their clanbook. Fetishes for all game lines!
>>97401518>I know they're not really human but how hard is it for them to blend in amongst humans? As long as they don't get any dental work done they're pretty fine. They breathe normally and have a heartbeat, they can eat food fine, if not process it like they can with fluids. The "erase the last 15 minutes of memory" rank 1 gift also does wonders for any sort of slip-up.
>>97401518Day-to-day? Pretty easily. They're not inhuman on the surface (unless you're spectacularly unfortunate), although spider-born Ananasi might have a bit of trouble acting human to begin with.Once you investigate even a little bit however? The jig's up. You can never see another doctor for the rest of your life; your blood's different, your lungs are different (and therefore you might breathe a little differently), and depending on the kind of homid you got saddled with, your heartbeat might not even be in the right place. See, real spiders (as demonstrated by pic related) have hearts that wrap around their thorax; an Ananasi's heart might wrap across her ribcage in a similar way. If you have particular gifts your joints might not even work the same way, as you can use the same kind of hydraulic movement system that real spiders do, meaning having a healthy blood pressure might well be different from a normal person. While you're not going to be caught out by every single medical test, it's better not to take the chance. Some specialists would almost certainly be fine - an optician isn't going to find anything unusual, nor is a dentist in spite of what that other anon said (an Ananasi doesn't actually have her fangs in her homid form without a particular gift, although you can partially transform yourself to give a prithus mouth - but remember, your bite isn't a painkiller like with the vampires outside of a specific venom), but lots of other things will. Even assuming a doctor is 'in on it', they'd need a working knowledge of what's healthy and normal for an Ananasi, which understandably isn't particularly easy information to come across. Surgery is, obviously, right out.And this is a real problem for an Ananasi, because they can still get sick, get injured and need normal treatment, respond to drugs properly, get old, all that stuff. They CAN cure themselves of disease but it needs a lot of blood, so only really used for terminal illnesses.
>>97401752>They CAN cure themselves of disease but it needs a lot of blood, so only really used for terminal illnesses.Gives them a reason to run a blood bank. Might even drain a vampire or two along the way.
>>97401869Maybe not a blood bank, that's a little extra and very expensive and probably has a lot of regulation and safety checks in modern nights, but if you don't fancy killing people or eating enough spiders to swap your venom to a euphoric one, it might behoof a spider to learn how to extract blood like a normal person, with a needle. How you'll explain doing that is another problem entirely, but it's at least easier than "by the way I'm a giant spider, watch this!".Theoretically you could also drain other Ananasi, so your Cluster can all chip in if one or more of them has a more reliable method of acquiring fresh blood. Getting to know farmers is always a grand idea, even if animal blood's something of an acquired taste. That or just... hunt as a big prithus in a forest or something, you're a giant spider after all.Draining vampires is a bad idea, their blood doesn't do anything for the Ananasi and tastes rotten. The same's true in reverse - the blood of an Ananasi is just WRONG and, while a vampire can drink it for vitae (at the same rate as a normal human), they'll have trouble stomaching the stuff and actually keeping it down.
I've been looking into this and it seems right up my alley for hard sci-fi. Anyone else ever tried it? What was it like? Any major thoughts on it?

>>97380178>do they explain how *not highlander Immortals* AKA perpetuals came into being? or Emperor was just lucky to be born as super special mutie (perpetual + alpha ++ spyker)? It's said to be pure genetic lottery. Even the Perpetuals themselves aren't sure exactly on the mechanisms behind it, they only know for sure it's completely random who is and isn't one. Erda explains her theory about their origins in Saturnine. Basically, every now and then a random human is born who 'skipped' millions of years of evolution, like a preview of what all of humanity could eventually become if it evolves in the correct path (this is the Emperor's Golden Path btw). >I Know old lore that he was supposed to be soul construct of thousands of early mankind spykers, but IIRC it was retconned in HH books as no longer valid/Emperor being *just* powerful mutie who happens to be very very lucky winner of genetic lottery? The C'tan state the Emperor is an artificially created weapon, Basileus Fo (an immortal human (not Perpetual) who's been around since the Age of Technology) says the Emperor crawled out of some ancient vault or laboratory, etc. Because the Emperor has the power to literally rewrite everyone's thoughts, feelings, and memories who come into contact with him, it's possible that Malcador, who is the only character that vouches for the Shaman-fusion theory of the Emperor's birth, was simply mindraped into thinking that. There's a lot of circumstantial evidence that suggests the Emperor is indeed something created during the Dark Age of Technology, such as his plan to save the galaxy being creating 20 more of himself, in fact the entire Primarch Project may very well be his effort to trace back the methods of his own creation and replicate the work. Or you can argue that the great Shaman mass suicide WAS the laboratory that created him, and he is indeed an artificial weapon against Chaos because those Shamans created him to be one.

Any advice? They're all new to playing D&D as well as well so I'm hoping to fake it til I make it.
>>97401257Unbelievable based.>>97398534We used to give out one piece of advice constantly: "Talk to your players." But you're the weak, little shitstain who's so pathetic he feels the need to lie to his "friends" to impress them. Coming clean with your players would require balls, which you obviously lack.
>>97398534Here are the golden rules to follow, OP:1: Make a scenario, not a story. Story implies that you know how this will end, or even what will happen in the middle. You do not. You can never accurately predict what the players will do during any important moment, so any "story" that you come up with will fall apart as soon as the group decides to go left instead of right, try to befriend the dragon instead of slay it, or simply leave town instead of investigating the haunted house. It can be tempting to try and lock the players into a course of action (the haunted house won't let you leave town because of a curse!) but these can easily rankle the players and should be used very spareingly if at all.Instead, come up with an ongoing or impending problem that the players will cross paths with at the start of the session, and have a decent idea in your head of what all of the non-player characters and factions involved will do if nothing else changes. If the players just sit on the bench and sip their beers, what would be going on for lack of their involvement? If you understand the scenario enough to know what will happen on its current trajectory, you'll be able to change that on the fly in response to player actions and let them choose their own path which is what most people find engaging about TTRPGs in the first place.2: Keeping the session moving along is more important than being right. The good news is that you are working with a new group, so whenever a new mechanic comes up you have a valid excuse to stop the session and look it up to explain it to them in real time. But once you are past that part of the game, as long as you have a way forward its generally better to resolve the scene with an imperfect ruling than to stop everything and dig out the book and argue for 20 minutes about whether what the player is trying to do is technically within the rules or not. Let the rules guide you, but not bind you to inaction.
>>97401624Your preferences are not "golden rules" for anything, anon.Ignore anyone telling you how you "have" to GM, OP. There is no "have to." There are no "golden rules" except to try things until you find the ones you and your table like the best.
>>97398534Go read the GM section of a Kevin Crawford Things Without Number game and the Hackslashmaster blogpost about writing scene descriptions.
