I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

>When Sinistaar the Dark Lich rises from his thousand year slumber, De Sandea will be the one guy who knows *exactly* how a phylactery works, how it might be found and destroyed, and maybe an uncomfortable amount on how to make one if you were so inclined (which is impractical, you'd never get ahold of that many orphans without drawing attention to yourself, there HAS to be a better way...)

This is actually perfect for the campaign, thanks anon
>>
>>97245555
That anon means they started out that way. Typically warlords and very successful barbarian killers and conquerors set up the main noble houses once they were done conquering. Their kids and grandkids grew up in the lap of luxury and turned out to be the wealthy educated elites in society. But if you look back far enough, most of those families started out with a guy with a last name like The Conqueror, Bloodaxe, Ironfang, Skullcrusher, The Terible, etc.

>Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.
If you're aiming for maximum believability, there's almost no way that humans would accept a different species ruling them. They struggle enough with humans of different nationalities ruling them (William of Normandy had to practically burn down England before they stopped revolting at the idea of a Norman King).
>I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing
Society, nobility, and privilege are amazing motifs to play with. There's a few ways to approach this. Having everyone in the same "household" in some capacity (such as someone as the Bailiff, a different Castellan, a Forrester, etc) makes the most sense. However, there's nothing stopping you from having each person own a little fief.

Harnmanor and Pendragon have probably the most well developed rules on this sort of thing.

Pretty much everybody who's anybody has ended up in a position of power as a result of sheer circumstance, not because of any particular skill.

I honestly couldn't even begin to guess at what skills COULD make a difference because it has never really happened.

Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?

You could paint him up with gold trim to match the IM helmet as well though. If you want to go full on, maybe prise him off the obligatory tactical rock and have him flying? Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

That might actually be one of our West coast chapters.

God is real & Christ is King, this world is ours & our own making. When Adam-Eve partook of the fruit of knowledge we were banished from the Garden where everything was nice & cozy. This world is not kind. Its not supposed to be kind. It is a prison & an obstacle to overcome. Vampire mind control was created by the son of Adam & the First Murderer, it was not the heavy hand of God which moves us, but the mortal evils of mankind. No matter how ageless a bloodsucker, they can die. No matter how ephemeral a skinchanger, they can die. That means theyre mortal just like us. Its no different than someone being a little stronger or a little more charismatic. And everything burns.
>>
>>97250451
>contain
Haha. The closest you get to capturing and containing is them playing into your hands. Hypothetically, I would try and scavenge strange occurrences around notable seasonal events. Fairest folk exhibit signs of being beholden to events of importance. Things like harvest moons, solstices, and equinoxes. Blue moons and hunter moons could also serve to draw them out but, again, this is hypothetical. They are like an ash storm you can make out in the distance. Noticeable and recognizable but when in the center there's more immediate concerns that make one forget their presence.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

>GM advice is useless
Translation: I have not improved even slightly since I first started playing the game. I have a slight amount of natural talent but can't muster up the will or teach myself any discipline with which to cultivate it. Failing is so bitter that I refuse to reflect on my failures and cope by telling myself you can't get better anyways.
>>
>>97248716
Translation: I'm a chin stroking söyfreak in my early 30s who jacks off to /d/ faggotry and considers himself really clever cause he used to browse reddit, but he doesn't actually have any insight, so he just writes long posts that essentially boil down to "no u" with no substance. I can just see you, in your sterile 1 bedroom apartment, with Funko pops lining the walls, reading this, squinting, adjusting your glasses, then starting to type a response to show how smart you are.
>>
>>97248585
Am I jealous of him? Maybe slightly, but to be honest would require me to be an insufferable nu male so I think I'll cope just fine.

>>
>>97250816
No I'm just tired of people thinking everyone should be a DM. Maybe Fatt Coville isa good DM, but his hordes of Patreon simps that blindly copy his stupid ideas, rarely are. I've played with at least a dozen new DMs who got practice DMing in the time I played with them. None of them improved. Zero.

>Dieselpunk,
Early-to mid-20th century sci-fi aesthetic. Think Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Terrible movie, but prefect example of the aesthetic.
>Cyberpunk
Misused to refer to any near-future sci-fi with lots of neon and night time. Basically anything that looks like Blade Runner. Proper cyberpunk has high tech amongst lowlifes and is more about the dregs of society striking back against mega corporations that control all aspects of government. Basically modern America, but we didn't get the cool cybernetics. Just the piss and shit in the streets.
>Steampunk
Anything sci-fi with late-19th century aesthetics. Think Wild Wild West.
>>
>>97251118
The main separation between them is the type of technology afforded to each genre. Cyberpunk is advanced computers in a dystopian future. Meanwhile, steampunk and dieselpunk are treated as alternate history sci-fi, with steampunk rolling through the Industrial Revolution and exalting in steam power, and dieselpunk being relevant in the interwar period on through World War 2 with the dominant technology being diesel engines.

Nah, Blade Runner is a full cyber noir story considering Deckard is a detective solving a case.
Edgerunners is a bunch of scumbags from the gutters. And it shows us David's journey from powerlessness and alienation to finding power and belonging by chroming up and slapping more and more cybernetics into his body. Even when we see the warning of what will happen if he keeps it up with Maine's cyberpsychosis, we still understand the appeal of David continuing in spite of that foreshadowing. And not just that he gets to slam Lucy's clam.
His path leads him to attempt to confront one of the big corporate players and that ends up with just about everyone (including himself) getting killed. He battled the house and the house always wins. That's as cyberpunk a message as there ever was.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

MG MHI is ok, it's not the best loadout but far from the worst. It's one of the better MG users in the game in general due to +1 Ranged and Strong.

It's just very expensive, and MHI are not as hardy as they look due to lacking tough. One 'ignores armor' hit with a a few +dice can take them down.

You can use it as a setup piece for a fireteam, and can use a Mendelist ammo monk to buff it up as well.

Heavy shotguns are the 'good' MHI weapon
>>
I feel really embarrassed for constantly posting in this thread, is there another place that I should seek out?
>>

Truthfully it sounds like MHI isn't worth at all, even though I want to run it with a Shield and Polear at this point.

Since we're discussing Lists, wouldn't mind some feedback on my basic Stoßtruppen list. Was a toss up between learned saint and warrior saint as the patron but I'm leaning into Germans being autistically into logistics. Hoping to start a campaign with a mate sometime in the new year with one of us using a Court warband I'll be getting soon.

## 5th Squadron, 1st Battalion, Black Hussars ##

Faction: Stoßtruppen of the Free State of Prussia
Rating: 700 Ducats | 0 Glory
Patron: Learned Saint

## Elites ##

Lieutenant Heinrich -
• Cost: 139 Ducats | 0 Glory
• Equipment: Submachine Gun, Sword / Axe, Combat Helmet, Gas Mask, Standard Armour, Trench Shield

This is the Court list I've banged up, I have no idea about the Court so I've tried to make it really simple while still keeping a bit of the Faction flavour present.

## Ambassadors of the Exalted Veiled Visage ##

Faction: Court of the Seven-Headed Serpent
Rating: 698 Ducats | 0 Glory
Patron: Infernal Noble

## Elites ##

Praetor
• Cost: 250 Ducats | 0 Glory

>games aren't analogous to games
okay
So when you're having fake conversations and listening to story time between combat and exploration, it definitely isn't like listening to presentations on past baseball players in the middle of the inning. Because interrupting and delaying gameplay isn't interrupting and delaying gameplay.
If the term "game" doesn't apply to an activity, don't call it a game, you fucking ESL or zoomer retard.

But that aside, you can roleplay without in-character discussion. You don't even need to have out-of-character discussion to roleplay; all decisions you make for your character represent behaviors of someone who isn't you.
So while you're trying to assert that adopting a role is the only way to roleplay, I'll just remind you yet again that there's more than one way to roleplay, and each way to do it is more time-efficient than the last, allowing the people who are there for an actual game to get back to the game more quickly.
You won't get it, though, because you just want to turn game time into faggot storytime where everyone just makes retarded fake voices at each other, and doesn't actually play games.

Fucking nogames, go to Hell.
>>
>>97249983
Brother, if you think that all games are the same, that baseball and RPGs and chess and solitaire and Dwarf Fortress and Call of Duty and charades and beer pong are all fully analogous with each other, you're so clueless about pretty much everything related to any kind of a game that I'm not sure if there's a point in continuing this discussion.

Grognard here. Scottish Dwarves are D&D-specific. Many early D&D novels included scottish-accented dwarves. This is because one of the earliest sources of inspiration for D&D was Poul Anderson's "Three Hearts and Three Lions" which had among the first "scottish dwarves" depictions. After that, many fantasy series ran away with the scottish dwarf trope (Warcraft being probably one of the more popular examples)

Ran the Iron Coral from the ItO book for christmas.Been using ItO for ages but handn't run that one.
Good times. Felt a bit sparse on treasure but liked getting back to a very stripped down keying. 2 dead, 2 escaped, one player rerolled as one opf the crabpeople.
The big venus flytrap mouth didn't seem like a great encounter, wasn't sure if being eaten by the monster dropped off in the room behind it so I ran with that.
Converted a 5e critroll fag to rules light, felt good. Took them a bit to realize their backstory and trying to identify the monsters as wotcdnd monsters wasn't important but when they did they got really into it.
>>
Are all NSR games similarly grounded as OSR? Or are there high powered versions.
>>
>>97235271
Cairn, Mork Borg (art free version), Mausritter, The Black Hack, Black Sword Hack (its SRD has all rules but no art)
>>
>>97251227
It's hard to say anything definitive about NSR games as a whole, there's a ton of variety. OSR gets high powered at the upper end, though, and if you want really high powered, Godbound exists and is no worse than Exalted.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

>Everyone
• PLEASE BUMP THE THREAD IF IT REACHES PAGE 10!

>Requesters:
• Provide good, detailed references (pictures are better than verbal descriptions), so the artists know what you're looking for.
• If you have a WIP quote the Anchor Post, and attach the WIP so your Drawfag can find you.
• Do not reply to other deliveries with a request that the artist fill your request next. This is called 'piggybacking'.
• Do not make multiple requests in the same thread and do not serially request multiple characters after a delivery. Suggesting several concepts for artists to choose from counts as making multiple requests.
• If you're unsatisfied with your completed request, please wait at least one week before you re-request. If someone follows this rule, don't waste posts by complaining about it.
• Stay on topic.

>Drawfags and Drawfags-to-be:
• Drop your tumblrs/websites/commission/etc information, but if you're dropping your commission info, please consider filling a request beforehand instead of just advertising.
• Please keep AI deliveries to the /slop/ threads. This is a thread for human-made art.

Pretty much yeah. Even back in the good ol' days when m00t was around and the feds barely knew about this place drawthreads all over the site (not just /tg/) had an extremely high percentage of waifus. There were some amazing artists that have come and gone though, it's always sad when one of the greats leaves us. Pilgrim, souz, and BoRis were some of my favorites. I'm pretty sure if I tried hard enough I can find Pilgrim's socials, and I've actually commissioned souz, but BoRis never posted any socials and I've never been able to find him since he left. And he did the absolute BEST when it came to SWOLE (though he didn't color afaik). Got picrel from him years ago and even though it didn't match what I wanted for the request it's amazing (and makes for a fantastic "hulk threat" style encounter), not only that but he redid the request after too! And I got another from him that another anon colored that I've used over and over again in multiple games.

Want to mount my necromancer on a nightmare but GW never sold any models to my knowledge. Any ideas on how to convert one or any 3D printed versions? I've never bought 3D models so I'm a bit lost
