I think it's because most wargamers are quite soft and odd that when you get these kinds of "extroverted" podcast types they really run riot. What a cunt.

Is this a problem in your local scene?

This miscast guy seems like a bit of a fanny. I have been to 3 events at Rob's building and he is unfortunately a massive chad (tall, booming laugh, great gf).

He is probably the biggest proponent of actually playing games in the community, which is why /tg/ hates him.
>>
There's probably several guys out there paying into Suggs Rogue Hobbies Patreon, Juggz podcast patreon, Honest Wargamer Patreon, buying the £40 3D printed goblins, commenting on all the podcasts.

I don't get it? I compartmentalize. I don't really care what is Eastons hot take on this or that current-day issue. I prefer to hear him speculate on things like whether Dane axes were used as anti-cavalry weapons or what are the pros and cons of different shields.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...

Is Malifaux still a mess? Also where do I even get started with its lore?
>>
>>97179954
Rules wise? No. There are a decent amount of older rulesets that could scratch that itch. Model wise? Dropfleet and Battlefleet Gothic are basically it. Most other starship ranges are just a few geometric shapes slapped together without rhyme or reason.

Is there any better option for miniatures of galley slaves and such than Perrys Zulus or Mahdists ?
>>
do you think a rulebook that explains mechanics in step-by-step bullet points would be easier to read and scan later for reference than the traditional blocks of text most rulebooks use?
>>
>>97195335
>galley slaves and such
depends on what exactly you need. If you poke around in historical ranges you'll find slaves here and there.
https://www.wargamesfoundry.com/products/cr054-proximus-the-slave-trader?_pos=4&_sid=4441a71ed&_ss=r
https://www.wargamesfoundry.com/products/civ013-ancient-slaves
https://eurekaminusa.com/collections/colonials-african-captives-slaves-28mm

If you need guys to actually sit in a galley I'm not sure. Maybe look for galleys as a whole (3d printed and otherwise) and see if they come with crewmen.

>>97195480
Most rulebooks will give you a rundown of the sequence of play and then go into detail later about each phase of the game. Doesn't sound like anything different from the average (halfway decent) rulebook.

Is there a super system that is purpose built to integrate RPG scale, Skirmish, scale and wargame scale scenarios into one campaign?

I think that would be pretty epic. You might first go on an rpg party scale infiltration mission to get some kind of advantage for the next session that is a wargame, where if you succeeded, maybe you can hide a unit anywhere on the tabletop.
I think I heard people saying that it was kind of attempted in some Old DnD releases and ACKS, but it never seems to really be all that focused on or displayed in action much.

Would totally be a niche gameplay style that would require a group both up for rpg's and wargames, but I think it could be pretty epic.

See you'd think a d20 system would do something like that, but per the rules you need a 16 or 17 to hit anything in mass combat, and the best modifier you can get is a +5, and that's only for one round and one roll if you're in the most advantageous terrain possible.

I don't encounter Ruin Mode that much anymore, but it left a big enough impact on me when I started playing that I couldn't think of anything more suitable.
My other consideration was Quartzmon, not because I hate playing against it, but because I very quickly got sick of 'Just run Quartzmon' as deckbuilding advice.
>>
>>97195070
>chimera
How well does it work against current meta decks? Are you ver2 focused?
>>
>>97195213
When I first won with it (before Insane Synthetic Monster came out), my opponent asked me if I thought it was good or people just didn't know what it did. It's definitely the latter.
Best of the meta matchups are any of the Gallantmon slop decks, worst is probably Jesmon. Rocks, Omnimon and Mastemon are fine. Hudie basically depends on both our luck and the number of Ryuji/Ice Archery they run (like Ciel Awakened, stunning Analog Youth basically guarantees a loss)

Yes Ver.2, SkullGreymon is the main combo card and Vademon slows down most decks enough to get set up. Might consider Ver.5 once Millenniummon is out but the deck would look pretty different
>>
>>97195297
Yeah thats kind of what I figured.
Never went against hudie with it though. Aren't they just too fast for you to assemble your guy on time?
>>
>>97195432
Nobody plays Hudie at my LGS, so I've only tested it at home/against morons on DCGO but yes it's about as fast as Jesmon with the same stunning issue.
Vademon helps but I don't run enough to get it early consistently.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>One would think one faction for the British Isles would suffice
Nonsense, clearly we need a new welsh-based NA subfaction after the 7th Prussian box is dropped.

The thing with subfactions is that they generally take the nation most general historical-stereotypes and build on them. Spain has 2 historical elements that even the greatest mouth-breather know about it: Conquistadores and Inquisition. The former goes away because America was never conquered and the latter eats at the heels of the trench pilgrims.

Also Spain is unfortunately just not as popular or well known internationally as Ireland / Scotland / England / Prussia

>>97193406
I like it overall but I agree with >>97194221 that you should dial some of the buffs back. Other than that I would just allow the Tercio to take bolt-action rifles. Also maybe do not allow the knights and inquisitor to benefit from the procession for different fluff reasons. Processions happen in Spain during Holy Week but I would not say we worship Mary the same way we worship Jesus.
>>
>>97190237
This is already covered by house of wisdom
>>
>>97194221
Yeah, obviously that was just some quick 5-minute brainstorm, would need refinement.

The idea I was going for is that the fanatics would be a large team of shit guys with little armour, following a procession, that if not killed outright, can withstand the pain. Possibly include ways of activating in groups to save the opponent from having to wait 40 minutes til you are done.

And the more professional force, while possibly more numerous than usual, would not reach the numbers of the fanatics, would have reduced synergies, and would benefit from sticking together.

>>97195308
Historically, at some points the strong worship of Mary was considered heresy, look up collyridianism. And there is one such heresy in Spain, the Palmarians.
It isn't a stretch to think that the more theologically educated would be somewhat taken aback by an overly zealous popular cult.

But anyway, this faction need not be "just Spain", could be concocted to represent more western/southern Catholics, including French, Portuguese, Maltese...

It's just weird that you get so many factions for the anglosphere and so little for the Mediterraneans when the imagery is driven by Catholic aesthetics.
>>
>>97195441
>there is one such heresy in Spain, the Palmarians
I had no idea this was a thing, I will look into it.

>It's just weird that you get so many factions for the anglosphere and so little for the Mediterraneans when the imagery is driven by Catholic aesthetics.
Absolutely, but again I feel this is a combination of popular knowledge and WW1 history.
People only care for Italian and Spanish history for romans and conquistadores respectively. Spain was not a part of WW1 and even though Italy fought in WW1 it has a popular history of military incompetence (that arguably does not apply to WW1), same with austria-hungary to a degree.

France is the one I find most egregious, they were a crucial aspect of the crusades, one of the main players in WW1 and massively catholic

Hot. Arrogant villainesses that think they have won, only to accidentally self-destruct, are the absolute best, in my opinion. Speaking of yuan-tis: once, in a Delta Green campaign, I had this rich former pornstar turned Cult of Transcendence agent as one of the bad guys, and I had her use a serpentfolk machine while my players were busy fighting off her lackeys nearby (among which was a bonafide serpentfolk sorceror, the real BBEG). However, she didn't had any idea the scaly bastards had double crossed her, and so, instead of the machine making her twenty years younger, her body was aged by several hundred years. This resulted into said body collapsing into a pile of ancient dust among her clothing, her shoes, her jewelry, and her fake tits (the machine only worked on living matter), while she, in complete denial, was triumphantly gloating even as she aged to oblivion. Boy, were my players pissed, they were all looking forward to start their own harem with her, like our friend >>97193799. To each their own, I guess...

I'm running a battle soon - main opponent is a beserker werewolf. I like to use music as background, but most of battle ambient is:
- swords clanging
- too epic
- annoying vocals

I found this, but maybe fa/tg/uys can recommend something less digital-y and similarly visceral?

If you're letting people build freely, you might as well differentiate the frame by position and size of upgrade slots, hardpoints for hanging shit off them, etc. Toss in a couple of weird ones where they have a unique feature the frame is built around and can't be added as an upgrade.

>>97188384
I have Fallout, Conan, Dune, Dishonored, John Carter of Mars
>Conan
mechanically game is great as your starting character is Conan-tier badass straight outta gate. magic system is cool too as you have basic spell that you can modify with additional effects. say you have spell to summon small animal, you can add effect to summon large animal like bear instead, and then add additional effect to summon group of animals (thus, group of bears). you can for example, using one spell, summon swarm of rats and spread them around city to find person you're looking for. books, including cover book went into length about REH and Lovecraft friendship, so you can outright run it as Call of Cathullu but instead of regular joe investigators, PC are group of hardened badasses.
Really like it.
>Dune
This game tries to run two fold game. on one hand, you play on "architect" level where your characters are high ranking nobles and other power movers and "Agent" level play where you play operatives such as Duncan Idaho when he was sent to contact Fremen. Ideally, each player should have two dedicated characters and game would run between Architect and Agent type of play, but you can focus wholly on Agent or Architect play. core book covers everything from dueling, large scale battles, politics etc.
Overall i like this game.
>Dishonored
game tries to include more stealth elements as your character should be assassin/operative type of character. there is Corebook that tries to emulate stuff you can do in Dishonored 1 and 2, but there is bare bones regarding bigger setting, so you'd need to do A LOT of homebrewing if you want to explore different locations not portrayed in video games. same for void powers as corebook covers powers we seen in video games.
Overall, i'd play this if i wanted to play steampunk or something similar to dune, but i'd need to weight option deciding if Blades in Dark isnt better system for such game.
>Fallout
>>
>>97192166
>Fallout
Game tries to slavishly emulate video game (fallout 4) which includes calculating admin parts that PC does for you in background (which is annoying). and a lot of encounters or loot tables are void from coebook so GM needs to decide those things. If you like Fallout 4 though, game is excellent and you can find a lot of extended lore from that game, but as post apocalyptic game, I would pick something different.
>John Carter of Mars
This game rocks. I watched movie and after reading corebook, I went and read Princess of Mars (I'm on hunt for 2nd book). Game makes your character feel even more of a Badass compared to Conan's characters. If you can Fight, you bet you can fight off crowds of enemies, if your character has charisma, you bet he can talk down to angry crowd. Game hypes up Pulp vibes completely.
I'd never think that i would like game based on IP I've known nothing about so much that I would would end up reading source material.
Overall: Conan: Really Damn Good, Dune: Good, Dishonored: Okay, Fallout: Really Damn Good if you LOVE fallout 4, Okay otherwise, John Carter of Mars: Really Damn Good.
>>
>>97187838
2d20 is good as a system, but the content inside of it is bad. You need to be level 10 to take the cannibal perk, most things are based on Fallout 4, including stuff like everything being immune to radiation damage because Bethesda was too incompetent to figure out a way to have mutants in a toxic waste dump without them periodically dropping dead

>Shrine World: So you go to church every Sunday? How about living there? How about having your whole planet being one mega-Vatican, covered in shiny gothic cathedrals and temples, and living and breathing its own brand of the Imperial Cult? Naturally, these worlds are often dominated by the Ecclesiarchy, and many a true believer from around the galaxy makes pilgrimage here.
No one can say this sector is lacking in faith I suppose. 4d10+20

>Classification: Dead World(Formerly War/Frontier)
>Tech Level: Advanced Space: Has explored their own system and colonized any viable planets to be found there. Imperial level weapons are common, and cybernetics are starting to become practical.
>Star Size: Large
>Ministorum: Token
>Inquisition: Token
>Size: 48,000 km
>Axial Tilt: Moderate (16-25°)
>Seasonal Variation: ± 20°C/68°F
>Day: 21 Hours
>Year: 152 Terran days, 174 local days.
>Satellites: 1
>Bone crushing (2.5 to 5 G): Unaugmented Humans cannot survive in this world for long periods of time. -6 Agility bonus for movement, -10 to Strength and Toughness levels for Encumbrance, -6 Strength for Throwing. Jumping and leaping distances get divided by 8, fall damage gets multiplied by 8. If outside a controlled gravity area without appropriate armor, you will last d10 turns before beginning to suffocate as your lungs are squeezed out.
>Tainted: A Tainted atmosphere is even more dangerous. A character can only breathe a tainted atmosphere for a number of minutes equal to their Toughness bonus, and then gain a fatigue level per minute longer. Once unconscious due to fatigue, the character will die one minute later if still in the tainted atmosphere.
>Warm (+31°C to +50°C/88°F to 122°F): Depending on moisture, this world may either be a baked desert, a steamy jungle, or even a storm-wracked archipelago. Architecture will require plenty of cross-breeze. Tolerable until it hits the high forties but it'll still be dangerous if out of the shade too long.
>Terrain: Caves, Caves, Islands, Savannah

>Low Imperial: The advanced technologies of the Imperium start to be seen here, but are not always available. Standard issue and common weapons and armour can be easily found, but rare, expensive or very high tech items are still unavailable most of the time (no items with rare or very rare availability can be found on these worlds), though the PDF will likely have such weapons for their specialists.

GW kept mentioning space marines or even primarchs coupling with regular human women and it always took me out of it. Like how the fuck? Wouldn't she get ripped in half? But then it dawned on me. They just have tiny penises. Well not by human standards, but relative to body-size. Like think about it, why would you supersize the dick too when there literally do not exist women big enough to handle that size? So the simplest explanation is they just keep the penis size of a regular human.

They can squeeze babies out of their snatches, so a big dong won't be the end of the world

Why in the fuck would they have double the girth you stupid fuck, lmao. Just a very big ~12 inch dick is impressive enough without turning it into one of those Costco meat logs

Fulgrim had multiple wives (in succession, we don't look kindly on bigamy in the 31st millennium thank you very much)
>>97178284
I thought he had several, via marriage alliances and such, whom he all outlived and didn't have any children with (le subtle gay joke)

>biologically incapable
See, this is retarded. I buy them being sterile from the roids, I buy them maybe having their sex drives tempered via Clockwork Orange style conditioning, I do not buy them never getting boners or being incapable of getting hard. If that were the case their cocks would literally be atrophied and tiny acorn sized which is just fucking silly kek
