Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help: >n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0 >Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128 >Need a starter dungeon? Thread #02 Lean Winter on the TundraPrevious Thread: >>97090196Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.>Spoiler any OOC discussion.Happy hunting. Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.
>>97358931So you are of the opinion that the two different "skinwalkers" are both likely real, albeit different phenomenon? I see. When you say demonic, do you mean that in a literal sense or are you simple referring to how vile the ability itself is?>>97359027Stealing a lycanthrope's power with its pelt? Seems like putting the horse before the cart to me. To steal the skin of an animal, to become that animal, follows more logically. Why would one need to steal the lycanthrope's power to shift between man and wolf? And what of the claims of those who can shift between man and a different creature?
>>97364794A literal sense. Outside of vampires and plain ol' human crazies, I can't think of any creature that would go to length to infiltrate groups. Succubi and Incubi may due it to feed but they're, successfully, infiltrating. Alongside possession capabilities other demons are known for as well
>>97364794>Why would one need to steal the lycanthrope's power to shift between man and wolf?Because a lycanthrope is neither man nor wolf. A werewolf is a hellish beast that's some twisted fusion of man and wolf. It's a separate thing and that's why you need it's pelt. That's the hard part since werewolves turn into a man (from what I saw) when they die. You'd need to somehow skin that thing alive. I'm guessing that with the right pelt and proper ritual you could shift into other creatures, I'd need to ask my superiors to get a confirmation. Making pacts with evil spirits and other such things allow for many terrible things.
>>97364794There's magic that I haven't studied but I know about that would allow me or another sorcerer to become any animal we wanted. But it's not sinister. Then there's some really shady people who skin animals or supernaturals to wear their skins & gain their powers. Very dark magic & very different from the kind I use.
>>97362727I've never done something like this before desu so it was fun. I'm not very motivated right now to post, but in the future if these types of threads would ever happen again, I would probably be down to participate again
What's your theory for why all the talent is leaving Leder Games? What’s your worst/best board game break up story?
>>97364525I don't know man those new AH LCG cards are looking some type of way.
>>97366784Yeah I wondered about that, too. The 3x3s seem WAY different than before
>>97367086>Doesn't it usually say what is in the deluxe version?I got a free upgrade, didn't really check. I way just puzzled why people would pay twice the price of an already overpriced game (€80 for "classic special edition" aka the reprint) for barely anything. I mean I'm not complaining, the wooden gates are pretty cool and screenprinted anything is great, but it seemed so strange to me to upgrade 2out of basic resources for the deluxe edition and arbitrarily lock the third one behind yet another purchase. Really got me pondering what the fuck their plan is
>>97367641the reason is you can't really package metal coins inside the box. it would fuck up all the cheap plastic inserts during shippingalso the metal coins they sell are generic FeldCoin for use in all the city collection gamesreally everyone should just own one or two sets of metal coins and use them for all their games
>>97367443Yeah, crowdfunding unfortunately is one of those things that's great at first while everyone using it is from the old paradigm, but as its actual dynamics gradually become clear the thing just becomes more and more shit.
Necromancy Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. Is it possible?I like scifi as a genre because all the new tech that show us, but in terms of aesthetics, always looks like shit.Do you know any scifi RPG with good aesthetics? Even if it's just concepts, draws or artworks.PD: If someone is going to say 40k, I admit it has cool things, but I don't find it pleasant.

>>97355540>good guy>bad guyAnon, modern wargames can't have that or the fat losers buying the minis get bent out of shape about media literacy and feel guilty supporting their guys
>>97366738Can we just agree this fucking game and setting is shit. The only thing it has is cool art but can't bother to make a half decent story around it, to the point they just say all the gayest woke talking points. From "no canon" to "Everyone has a point." Yeah the fucking demons and devil worshippers who want to rape, murder, and rape some more might have some good in them. (Even though to become part of the hell armys you have to see a hellgate and other will die if normal, be corrupted if evil or you're a holy warrior that can handle seeing that shit if I remember.) This is a classic Tumblr/Reddit knock off grimdark OC setting that just is the most basic bitch takes and has no idea how to make a setting and just gets off on gore, and cool heavy metal album cover art. Also makes the people of color and commies the only "good guys" in the setting for PC points and to push they're a "good person."

It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind. These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles. But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status. There is no shortage of men in peril.Neither in classic nor in modern art.
>>97362635>the difference between "feeling that you ought to be given X" and "taking X" is semantics

I know /tg/ had a pretty active Space Station 13 community way back in the days of yore, and now that the open-source modernized Space Station 14 is coming along nicely i was wondering if there is a SS14 /tg/ community kicking around. It would be fun to get stuck in with the old robust grey tide crowd again. Otherwise, general Space station 13/14 thread i guess.

>>97367562>>97367572The setting uses this concept of animacy to blend the concepts of mind and matter.Just like a wave is not just the particles of water that happen to make it up at any particular point in time, but a persisting distinct entity, a nature spirit is more than the particular plant life it presides over. But at the same time, it's not a ghost that pops and exists seperately from those plants. It's like a presence within them. Can you tame water by killing a wave? I suppose you can, but you'd be removing the animating energy that you might have been interested in in the first place. Can you gain more water by stealing a wave? You'd just be stealing the water directly. In this analogy that'd mean uprooting all the plants and carrying them to your own territory.
