What is the counterculture of 2020s, that could be used as the basis for a contemporary countercultural tabletop game?

Take the World of Darkness for example, which was so grounded in the the counterculture of the 90s that it comes across as dated and strange today. How would you update the World of Darkness so that it better represents the counterculture of today?

Nightmare Mode: Talk about more than just politics. There's more to rebellion against the status quo and the prevailing social norm than who you vote for.

So that perfectly describes traditional nuclear families, then.
>>
>>97352131
The things about both traditionalists and trannies though is that they are still on some level supported by the ruling classes, so you can't say either of them are counter-culture just because a section of the mainstream is upset about it, otherwise everyone would be considered counterculture for existing.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,

It's cheaper to buy a resin printer and accessories than it is to build a 1k point 40k army. One Page Rules it is. I already have a 3d printer so I think I'm going to print some terrain to see if I like the idea of printing/painting minis before I go crazy buying things.
Any recommendations for free terrain models that are fdm friendly? I saw a guy who made 12" square panels with a 6x6 grid on each panel for easy 2" reference/measuring. I didn't mind the look of it but I can see how some people would hate it. What do you think?

How much would/should changing the default setting from High Medieval to Late Bronze Age change the game?

For example, lowering AC across the board to simulate the lack of general armour. How much would that affect balance?

You could say the same for medieval fantasy being renaissance era with the guns and some swords removed, or renaissance fantasy being just colonial era fantasy with the guns knocked back a few stages. GURPS treats Iron Age steel as "experimental"--purchasable only at extremely high prices, if at all. Only in the Middle Ages does metallurgy improve enough that steel becomes available in any random shop for purchase by adventurers.
>>
>>97352271
Here, for example, in the Roman period steel swords are listed as costing four times the normal cost, assuming that they are available at all.

Been very interested in Traveller ever since I read some Sci Fi last year (mostly Asimovs Foundation and some of The Expanse)
I don't know if I could do the super hard science stuff but I gotta say the appeal is there for space adventures. Might at least try running some adventure books for my friends to see if they're actually interested in the system before I try and brew an entire universe. Or at least a system or two to call my own might be easier to manage
>>
>>97351264
Traveller isn't hard sci-fi in the slightest so there's no need to worry about it.

Traveller is fun, though, I've run several one shots in the past and will probably try to get a campaign off the ground this year or next, depending on how games are lookin'. Be wary of the current mongoose adventures, some of them are fairly shit.
>>
>>97351748
>Be wary of the current mongoose adventures, some of them are fairly shit.
Well the classic stuff is pretty easy to carry over right? That's mostly what I've been reading up on and the system hasn't changed terribly much as far as I can tell right (talking directly classic to Mongoose editions, I know there's a D20 out there alongside GURPS that have more drastic changes)
>>
>>97350282
I love Traveller. I'm currently running a near future game myself. It's a mishmash of 2300AD, Hostile, and my own home brew.

What's a fun way to introduce NTR elements into my Eberron game?

easy, mind control. The villain has mind control powers, and those under their thrall seem to really enjoy it and become very dismissive of their previous life.

You get NTR and mind control with a thin veneer off deniability

This, but make it a handsome dude instead of a woman. A man with mind control powers who uses them to encourage women into sex is probably a nightmare for most people.

Warforges w/ detachable penises....

I want to make a character who specializes in gathering information. Basically I want to know everything and everybody, or to be able to quickly learn about something or somebody when that isn't the case.

I'm not sure how to go about it. Obviously with a design goal as broad as that, this is not the kind of character that I expect to be fully realized straight out of chargen. Face skills seem like a nobrainer starting off, but what would be the best thing to focus on after that?

Also Shadowrun thread. The character is for 5e using basic priority chargen.
>>
>>97350205
Contacts!

The most important part of playing a face is lining up proper contacts, it's not just what your character can do, but who your character can call to get things easily. You want weird contacts people wouldn't think of, everyone ha an armorer or a fixer, practically no one has another decker as a contact, an ID broker, an attorney, a news broadcaster, a waitress in a popular nightclub.

If you play a face correctly, you should only have to bust out your own skills when actually on doing the run, or when buying or selling something. Contacts are your lifeline.

It's also better imo to have many smaller contacts, than one 6/6+, especially if your goal is to be the infobroker. Think of people or roles that would have access to lots of names and databases, police, city employees, financial planners, call centers, ect. You're idea is totally sound and how you are supposed to play.

Yes, or at least I think I am? I'm just comparing what's in the 2024 book to the SRD and it appears to have drastically fewer class options.
>>
>>97352017
Are you stupid or something?
>doesn't reprint and update everything
Classes had 2 or 3 PHB subclasses, except for Cleric and Wizard who had 15 between them. Now they all have 4 each, for 8 more total. That's "basically as much": 20% more subclasses (now evenly distributed across classes).
>>
>>97352122
Yeah, the new PHB only published with 4 subclasses for each class.
They also note that the subclasses from previous books are still compatible with the new PHB, just that you may get subclass features at different levels.
>>
>>97351877
>>97352122
The SRD contains the Basic free Rules, which is what third-party creators need to make content for the game and for players to try it. They then sell you the full rules in the form of the PHB and other books with more subclasses and shit.

New year new me edition

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

*players
Minor spelling mistake, its over for me.

Militech is for tactical prowess and firepower, Arasaka for maybe range, and what about the corps?
>>
I had a player in 2020 spend his combat turn full autoing, then declared he wanted to reload. I let him but it made me wonder because there's supposed to be the -3 penalty but obviously there's no dice roll. What are you supposed to do, make them reload on the next turn? Same thing with movement, I've had some people run up, do an action at -3, then run away in the same turn with their spare MA. It's not like I want to stop them I just want to know how all these are supposed to interact.
>>
>>97349774
>>97349793
Actually I think Arasaka is adaptability. The two Arasaka weapons in Black Chrome are the weeping reaver which can have 3 bonus effects (and can mix and match them and more are possible) and the prototype rifle which is ridiculously overpriced but would give you an extremely weak railgun if you needed it. And the bullpup rifle in Gunsmas can use any type of ammo even though it's exotic.

Sovoil/Techtronika could be defined by dependability in brutal conditions. Techtronika is actually a subsidy of San Francisco Techtronica which was a microwaver developer but they all died in the 4CW.

Malourian Arms and Tsunami Arms weapons would be the kind to be way over engineered and have limited release runs.

Your Militech seems pretty spot-on. I could see them competing with Gunmart for American patriotism and tactical designs. Except Militech is actually good while Gunmart is flimsy.

Thoughts on Twilight 2000?

I've been wanting to run a gritty setting akin to S.T.A.L.K.E.R (the anomalies and artifacts I can add on my own). I've been considering Delta Green as a system, but T-2000 caught my eye and seems interesting.

I like T2K 4e and I think it would make an excellent system for running a STALKER game.
STRENGTHS: It's excellent for survival games, resource management, and stress management. It's also built around hex crawl play so it'll fit with the theme of exploring The Zone. It's a YZE game and the first YZE game was Mutant: Year Zero that definitely had a lot of Roadside Picnic/STALKER influence. If you're going to use T2K then definitely get some of the MYZ material.
WEAKNESSES: The biggest issue I see is that It's not a very good system for tactical combat. It treats combat as an event to be resolved rather than a turn by turn experience. It's great for the survival type experience but not that great for those that thirst for action type play.
If your table likes a more tactical focused game, I'd opt for Cyberpunk 2020/Interlock Unlimited. I'd dump the cybernetics and run it as is while homebrewing the anomalies and artifacts.
Me personally, I'd use Cepheus Engine and adapt a few supplements to it. from Zozer Games and Independence Games.

Goblins have existed in folklore for centuries in various forms, but where and when was it decided that Goblins are green? in 1st edition d&d, thwey're described as having various skin shades, green not being specified or standing out among the.

I’ve started a fanfiction based on this image. In it Settra the Imperishable got his last living descendant magically summon to his capital. I’m looking for something good to read that gives more insight into Settra beyond his most memorable moments—something that shows what he enjoys, his future plans for his people, how he interacts with the living, and his broader goals. I know High Queen Khalida appears in *Gotrek and Felix*, and got an amount of living followers who serve her, but I’d like a better sense of Settra’s character outside of emergencies or badass situations, like when someone steals his hat and he chases it even into the Frozen North. And yes I'm ready for Warhammer the old world in order to get a better grip on the guy.Serious I'm ready to read anything novels Army books campaign books whatever to get a better sense of him along with Herald Nekaph as a person..
>>
>>97351257
You know, for what it's worth, I don't really get Settra's 'thing'. He's just another warlord / Emperor, right? So why is he so ridiculously badass when he came back?
Like he was just another human Pharaoh, albeit a really successful one. That doesn't make him superhuman.
>>
>>97351817
Nehekarans were something more than baseline human if some artwork was to be taken as an example, taller and presumably stronger. Add to that his equipment. Plus, he's in a setting where being a successful ruler both requires and guarantees that you can kick some serious ass.
>>
>>97351257
We did it /tg/, we found the TWW secondary who ALMOST CONSIDERED buying actual physical minis. TOW's potential first ever customer!
>>
>>97351257
Who is the last 'living' descendent based on this image? Because the girl has Vampire Fangs, so I'm doubting she's living at all. Plus I'm sure that Settra was probably a Genghis Khan type event on the gene pool in his time, so there's probably thousands of descendent lines.

So I will name instead Herr Seth Unvergänglich, a merchant grocer of Nuln who specialises in 'soll-grown' produce of exceptional quality and longevity.
