I'd assume that the dryness oif the deep South isn't due to just the proximity of the Pole of Fire - which might in itself just as well lead to a really hot and humid environment - but also more mundane reason, such as the rain shadow of those mountains.
>>
>>97385344
I guess I kind of left my point only halfway made here. There are more mundane reasons for why Southern desert is as dry as it is. Same reasons don't really apply to the Dreaming Sea region.
>>
>>97385195
Considering both irl circle of rain and Chinese elements, the pole of wood is under constant raining.
>>

While Halta didn't need to be as big as it was, I'd still prefer it if it were one of the larger countries in Creation, with the main thing holding it back being a lack of high quality metal equipment for their massive army and absolutely abysmal ability to project their forces far beyond their border because they're too used to living in trees. Linowa is competitive do to Halta's logistical problems and superior warriors and equipment.
>>
>>97386889
The area marked on that map would still make Halta one of the larger countries. Cutting its population down to 10% of 1E/2E numbers would still leave it one of the larger nations population-wise, too - not one of the absolute largest, but large by Age of Sorrows standards.

WotC and Mark Rosewater have all said this was the case. It started out as having 100 cards and according to them they changed it because they wanted to put more Spider-Man stuff in. Which is probably partially true, but the other reason is Aftermath sucked and everybody hates non-draftable small sets.

By the way if anyone's wondering about the value of the new spearheads (calculations done in eurobucks):
>obr
2 sets of kavalos deathriders (2x51.50), terratic cohort (also 51.50) and the liege kavalos (50) make this a total of 204.5 yuros value, good for a 41.5% discount, which is I think the highest they've ever done. New idoneth one was close at 200. That being said, that only works if you value the terratic cohort at 51.50 euros (65 in burgerbucks), which ehhhh. The liege kavalos also feels pricey at 50. Still, great value box.
>tzeentch
2 sets of tzaangor enlightened (50 each), a shaman (32.50), and a standard box of tzaangors (45). 180.80 in total, so 33.6% discount. Not bad.
>loomies
51.50 for the wardens, same for the spirit of the wind, 57.50 for the windchargers, and finally 34.50 for the windmage. Evens out at a nice 195, 38.4% discount, another good one purely in terms of value.
So yeah when going off pricing alone these all look to be good discounts. Obr one is especially great on that front, though again, teratic cohort.
>>
>>97386886
IIRC they've got the same movement stat as the dogs so yeah they run swift. That's still slower than the birds and the centaur, mind you.

The more important question is how does that affect playing the game?
>>
>>97386602
The original framing device for explaining Astartes augmentations was his scientists telling him about their work. Pretty much the moment we had anything solid on the Primarchs' creation, we were told there were other people involved. Astarte and Erda may be horrendous for other reasons, but they were dropped into long-established yet little-discussed space.

His role remains as it ever was: The giga-Psyker warlord that got the ball rolling, long retired from active rule to end up an icon for those who did after him.

What is a good tabletop RPG that is easy to run and prep for someone who is a new gm but has experience playing in games before?
>>
>>97386862
The boring answer is:
Whatever system you have the most experience playing in.

But if you're really deadset on trying to learn a new system, I'd recommend just picking out something that interests you. Most of the challenge with prep work comes from either preparing purely narrative stuff (in which case system of choice hardly matters) or having a strong enough grasp on your chosen system to provide a fair and interesting challenge.
>>
>>97386902
I’m interested in like CoC/Delta Green stuff but prepping mysteries seems a lot harder than just making a dungeon to crawl in, which is why I kinda wanted to ease myself into it with something easy to get used to gming. Maybe that isn’t the best idea? Of course there’s always prewritten adventures but I kinda wanna do my own things.
>>
>>97386923
In that case, your problem mostly falls on the "Purely narrative challenge" end of the spectrum. If you're not confident in your ability to really do mystery stuff, I'd recommend doing smaller less grand mysteries in a system you already have a strong understanding of. Since this is more of a lack of writing experience challenge than anything.
>>
>>97386862
Just start playing, you'll get it in time with any system. Pick whatever looks the most fun. A lot of skills are transferable between systems.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). The reason these were a "cold" for many Europeans but a death sentence for Native Americans was natural selection. Because these diseases had been circulating in Eurasia for centuries due zoonotic diseases from animal domestication (no cows, pigs, horses, sheep, and goat in America), those who survived them passed on some level of genetic resistance or antibodies to their children.

When these germs reached the Americas, the population had zero prior exposure, leading to "virgin soil epidemics" where mortality rates often reached 80% to 90%.
>>
>>97386657
Smallpox killed a third of the population in virgin soil epidemics, including in Iceland. Evolutionary impact on immunity is quite muted, even for high-lethality endemic diseases; acquired immunity (exposure earlier in life) is mostly what does it.

Do you draw boundaries in your setting for different types of games, different cultural and ecological biomes of sorts with a different selection of races, or even classes? I do, I'm dividing my world into possible campaigns, each with four races. Although the world is coherent, the areas are so different that you could set different genres within the same world. From low fantasy, early medieval northern europe to renaissance era italian city states, and then further south to sword and sorcery, piracy and pulp.

>>97332491
The largest and most organized religion in my world is the worship of the Mother Sun, the fertility goddess from which all life springs. You might say that that'd be the earth, but no, that is a harsh and austere patriarch whose temper is only softened by the warmth of a woman. Their eldest is the sea.
>>
>>97386832
>Do you draw boundaries in your setting for different types of games, different cultural and ecological biomes of sorts with a different selection of races, or even classes?

I'm using ages for that, with tech levels and avaible races depending on which age the game is set. All of them take place on the same continent, just at different spots in the timeline.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Welcome, Anon.

C&C is a pretty bad choice if you want to play OSR, no reason to pick it really.

If you're interested in OSR, there's three main choices: OD&D, AD&D (the real one by Gygax, not the 2e knockoff) or B/X. For most people, B/X is the easiest to start with. You can find much more info in the newbie guides in the OP.

As for 5e vs one of the first decade editions, it's down to taste. If you ask us we'll tell you that O/A/B/X D&D is the best if course, but that doesn't mean they're for everyone: Some people are happier with 5e and that's perfectly okay.

The only way for you to know what you prefer is to try.

Ty all the way, being strong alliance and their rule allow you to take a normal wyrd power, It's a huge boost to Delaque in early campaign. Delaque cannot choose the normal wyrd powers from Book of Outcast as their first pick.
>>
>>97343367
Pretty good, but if there is one warband that can justify investing more in their main hero, that is undead. That vampire is looking awfully frail, considering he is irreplaceable.
>>
A few games into a necromunda dominion campaign. Currently on 9 gangers, all with one weapon, some scattered armour and gear. Most gear is on leader and champions who are pretty beefy.

Venators so no juves.

How many bodies is enough - we're capped at 100 credits/game. Might aim for a rogue doc and underhive merchant that can do Savvy Trader for some eco. Is it absolutely critical to pick up a ratling with lasgun or something similar so I've got 10 gangers? And how many bodies should I be aiming for by around game 4, 8, etc?
>>
>>97385273
>How many bodies is enough
Depend on what scenarios were used. So let's say the scenarios with highest crew size at 9, you want 9 + 3 for a normal gang to account for fighters in recovery, and another 3 if you're cawdor. Early campaign you should focus on giving your guys better weapons and armors, and having leftover fund for medical escort.
>>
>>97385340
Thanks. I'm going to challenge for a territory that gives me a free rogue doc next - I'll probably buy an underhive merchant after and get some discounted armour and gear. Already got a ganger with a bolter so spamming that would feel cheap, for now.

Obsession

>>
>>97356728
3.5e handled this by giving elves a bonus to Intelligence, which is truly WotC's official only trait that makes them stronger. At the heart of your post, yes. Yet this is all we got and now even the stat bonus for species has been removed.

Why do elves deserve to be better wizards? Because they are documented as getting their powers from years of study and hard work. A being that can live 5 times longer than a human has much more time to study and develop. If we were being real, there would be no comparison, although with a game interested in balance, they won't make a dichotomy that severe.
>>
>>97386643
Yeah elves sort of having to be balanced for game mechanics takes some of the lore away.
>>
>>97386798
Quite a bit in fact. I mean, not to get onto this topic, but look at people on Earth. We vary in size more than the race guidelines for character creation in the Player's Handbook does. Same with innate strength and intelligence. A species that lives an extra few centuries, be them elves or dwarves, would be incredibly different and diverse. It truly is balancing these factors that greatly takes away from what race differences could be.

It fucking sucks.
Long live V20.
