Necromancy Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

Do you think we will ever get books or campaigns that aren't set in the in-game modern times? What I mean is will we ever get Napoleonic era soldiers, or a Jeanne D'Arc campaign that uses different stats and rules.
I think it would work well once the game gets a few books and proper box support for the other factions. I imagine something along the lines of Byzantium fending off against hell for the first time, the republic of Venice hiring mercenaries to defend their trade routes, the last remnants of the Vikings encountering the northern hellgate etc.
>>
>>97368336
Tuomas has said he would like to make a spinoff, where its muslims and christians holding back the forces of hell that spill out from recently opened gates of hell. But that spin off, if it ever happens, is far away.

I wish stormvermin had gotten a gun and sword option like the unit leader

as nice as that would be, skaven already have a lot of shooting options so giving them to a unit mostly used as a screen to protect heroes seems a bit much

It depends on the mini imo, some are definite improvements, others not so much. Like I said I like the older celestant more, but for example new prosecutors are so much better than the old ones it's not even funny. A combination of fatcast and nucast would be my personal ideal, but y'know there's no pleasing everyone, and in general the refresh seems to be well received.

I was surprised to find out new stormvermin don't come with the sword and board option, feels a bit lame.

It is probably not too controversial to say that the art of modern rulebooks is made with female representation in mind.

These women are predominantly filling important roles, such as archmages, military officers, or nobles.
But how come there is barely any art that shows them in peril, or at a clear disadvantage? Regardless of their status.

There is no shortage of men in peril.
Neither in classic nor in modern art.

pardon, missed some words there. Untamed Druid is *statistically* fine if you properly scale upwards the feat chain, but it isn't doing anything a real martial would be doing, and PF2e's action economy means you can't really switch-hit with shapeshifting like you could get away with in D&D5e. There's no Circle of the Moon buff that grants you spells while shapeshifted either so...

I've found from the grapevine that Jes Goodwin is soon to retire from Games Workshop

He really is the king. His concept sketches and absolutely timeless work on mk7 Space Marines and the Eldar particularly are worthy of the highest praise.

His influence will be sorely missed, though with how miniatures are often 3+ years in the pipeline before being seen on shelves, his legacy will continue.

TC's got some big names orbiting it, and is the personal project of a couple big names themselves. A good number of them either being involved at GW, or interested in the vibes. Even if he's not into the weird WW1 vibe so much, I can kinda see him falling into the orbit a little, just because a bunch of the other old heads kinda did.

I mean, Jes did a lot of Eldar stuff, but his design and art was pretty instrumental to a lot of 40k overall.

Still, wherever he goes, even if it's just off into the vagaries of the Webway, all one can hope is he enjoys himself.

What kind of revisionist take is this? The bright 'Eavy Metal style in the 2nd ed. rulebook sample photos was jettisoned almost immediately in the 3rd ed. rulebook. The fluff got darker and the paintjobs got more matte and washed out too. You went from bright red-and-black-trim Blood Angels and bright blue-and-puke-yellow Ultras to having Black Templars vs. equally matte Dark Eldar in the starter boxset. Eldar poster-boys went from blue-yellow Alaitoc to washed-out bone-white-and-green Biel-Tan. The rulebooks and codexes also got the characteristic black stone borders - everything got washed out and darkened and the lore got even grim-derpier over 2nd.
>>
>>97365148
Honestly a very difficult choice.
Depends on what you mean by "best" I guess.

>>97366903
This is a personal favorite of mine.
There's one specific model in there that was sleeper OP.
Nobody really talked about it, but GW would quietly nerf it over and over in following editions, because it was so overtuned.

All great, but:
CSM>Nids>SM>Guard
>CSM is pure flavourmaxxing, and every option feels fun and nice to play.
>Nids is too much of a powerhouse, but being able to tune every single bug in the book, including the goddamn worms, is simply too cool.
>SM is nice all around, but feel like most chapter traits are a bit too quaint.
>IG's doctrines are very cool, but too all over the place desu. I'm not one to bitch about balance, but some were really too shit to be enjoyed. Also don't like named regiments being allowed to go over the limit.
I wish the Inquisitorial codices were a little bit better. Still great, but don't reach the peaks of excellence those 4 did. Also, we never got Alien Hunters and I'll be mad about it forever.
>>97366903
Probably the better 5th Edition Codex, but still not as good as what came out in 3rd and most of 4th, let alone the 3.5 dexes.
>>97367944
I think he meant as in fun and/or flavour. That's at least what every 4th Edition grog talks about. Doubt anyone cares about meta and waaacfaggotry for that edition.

Arson is pretty bad vs people who live in trees and can't go to the ground to e.g. build firebreaks. Also, the Linowan have Dragonblood and the Realm. This whole thing is, to some extent, two big local nations both supported by foreign supernatural predators stuck in a forever war.

That said, you're not wrong.
>>
>>97367353
Realm's support matters a lot, of course, but I doubt the Realm would be willing to commit enough troops to a fairly distant part of the world to stop Haltans from using that standing army of theirs - which must be the largest in Creation - from stopping Linowan arson once and for all. I like the overall idea of a thriving civilization in the trees, but the way Halta is presented in Kingdom of Halta and CoTD: East is so exaggerated that it almost feels like a parody of that idea. I'd be all for toning Halta down a bit - a bit, not too much, they should still have proper cities in the trees, just maybe not one as big as the Imperial City - and also giving the Linowan a bit more of an edge of their own. 3E kind of does do the former, I think, though it doesn't really provide population numbers.
>>

Yeah they kind of take up the north-east mindspace for the setting thanks to how expansive they are
>>

2e Halta was nuts. I have no idea why the devs decided they should get the maximum wank treatment.
>>
>>97367429
>>97367645
In fairness in terms of land-space they are about as big as the Blessed Isle, and they have managed to tame it's dangers and pull in supernatural defenders on a similar level as the Realm's Dragonblood with Sidereal backer paradigm, just fewer of them. The population of their capital is about the size of the Imperial City and their total population is about as big as the Blessed Isle's. The Realm's military is... like a third to a half, I think, with it's score or so legions of ~10-20k legionnaires? In terms of manpower. In effect they're stronger but have to put out ten fires to Halta's one.

Hey there

I've decided to start a West Marches-style campaign on my LGS. It sounds the perfect style to run for a public setting w/ rotating players, but I myself have never DMed one

Any experiences, tips and advices regarding DM-ing/playing West Marches style games?

Or general tips for running games on LGS ?

For those unfamiliar with West Marches style, here is what google have to say about it:
>Player-Driven Exploration: Players decide where to go and what to explore, venturing into unknown territory from a safe starting town.
>Rotating Cast: A large pool of players participates, but different combinations of adventurers form parties for each session, preventing the need for a single regular group.
>Sandbox World: The world is a sandbox, with the map and plot emerging as players discover new locations and rumors, rather than being dictated by the GM.
>No Fixed Schedule: Sessions occur when players organize themselves, often on a voluntary basis.
>Low GM Prep: The Game Master (GM) focuses on creating a world and potential encounters, responding to player choices, rather than crafting complex plots.
>Self-Contained Sessions: Adventures are often designed to be resolved in a single session, with storylines evolving over time.

...cont

Having another parallel group can also lead to interesting things:
>More organic* rumors for players to investigate
>More eagerness to be the "first" to do things/discover places/etc
>The world would feel more alive/less centered on the players (again, a WM trademark)
At end of day, I feel like the concept of having a parallel group playing on the same world is in itself a different gimmick that can be tons of fun. To know there's more people out there experience that world, and that the things you do on your session affects the world even beyond your group

Though in my mind, the LGS group would be the "official" group, and I would probably limit my friends to a 1/month session, or 2 tops (LGS is scheduled to be every other week). I would also occasionally invite my friends to the LGS group to have more interconnection between the groups

But in the end of day, the aspect of having the LGS as the "official" group is important to me, which is why I might reset the map after the test session and start fresh for next week's first "official" session

Officially posted about the group on the LGS chat group for TTRPG, in less than 5 min we already got 5 players for first session :D

Hoping to keep the thread alive until then, or at least until tomorrow's test session

NentirVale anon here. In my campaign, I had a house rule that a long rest could only be taken in a safe and civilized place, where the PCs weren't on watch. Home base, a cozy inn, a guarded outpost, etc. Everything outside of that counted as a short rest, by 5e rules.
