they are pretty good in Daggerheart though they heavily feel like the WoW Hunterclass. DND 5e ranger is god awful and 2024 edition is even worse. A campaign i was in last year i made a drakewarden ranger, i really liked having a drake pet, found out i could not use him as a mount until lvl fucking 16 but my allies could? Campaigns rarely ever reach that point so essentially i was locked out of the core feature fantasy

Yeah, my character is basically just a mercenary that plays the hero angle to get better jobs.Got hired to roam the kingdoms to retrieve incredibly powerful artifacts for a deity, my character took it as yet another mercenary job and never faltered, even when about to face a small army of golems he refused to surrender the artifact to be used. After a last siege against the nemesis of the deity that hired him, he's going back to his (now much richer) village, back to his expecting wife and he will retire.

The joy didn't last, as the mega corp we had beef with discovered he was working as a double agent in their organization and shoved him in some kind of flesh/bone/muscle stripping enzyme/chemical solution and forcefully converted him into a full borg that was just a brain and nerves. There's more but, i gotta head to work.

Why are some people so afraid to run games?I bought a beginners box for Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, on a whim when I was visiting a comic shop around 2012 or 2013 and had my first ttrpg Experience the following weekend as a GM.Since then, my players and I had a great time and most of them started running games on their own. So why the fuck do I see so many idiots online, mystifying the job of a GM? It should be easier than ever to run games today (yes even online three out of four games are totally fine, if you filter out the obvious morons).
>>96471203In my experience it's a combination of laziness, not taking responsibility for their own anxiety, and lacking the skills to properly break things down into sections to learn and build on. A lot of them are straight up liars who don't really want to play a TTRPG, they want people to suck their dick about how awesome their OCs are and how unique their world building is, but see TTRPGs as an easy way to get their super amazing novel written cause otherwise they'd have to struggle and focus and take critique to develop skills as a writer.
>>96475745But by wanting to pet a dog, Howie indicates that he knows what it means to pet a dog. And with a simple action like that there are no intermediate steps: the instructions on how to do it are merely a description of what it means. Her only expectation is that he knows what the word he's using means, which is more or less necessary to carry out any sort of conversation.
>>96475476>>96477533>Good GMs also have strong social skills, they are eloquent, and they are quick-witted. You can run a session without these traits, but it will remain a session (singular) because the players will not want to continue. One small example from years ago: I joined a one-shot where the GM suffered from constant vocalized speech pauses ("Uhhh, "Ermm", "Eehhh, "Huhh") and it drove me nuts. Totally disagree. Sure you have to have some oratory skills but those can be acquired in an hour of yt tutorials, at most. But after that you only have to be able to say what happens. No social skill involved. Heck you don't even have to voice NPCs just summarize their reaction and you're good. In my over ten years of GMing I haven't encountered a situation where it wasn't immediately obvious how the world might react, outside from some premade settings where I didn't have the complete lore in my head.
>>96471203GMing is easy but my group makes it hard (and unrewarding).
>>96475510We already have a "GM oversaturation" in our group. If you wanted to get into Horus Heresy at this moment, what would be the best approach to miniatures? Just buy offical plastics, third-party sculpts, or 3d prints?
>>96478236Primarchs are sadly EW(2) minimum, so sniping them with meltas doesn't work so well. If you want to absolutely annihilate characters, you can get a unit of True Believers headhunters from that one apex detachment and attach a magos to give them the +1BS juice so their banestrike shots crit on 6+. It makes transporting them a bit of a bitch or requires some multi-unit coordination because their range is quite short and they can't infiltrate with the magos attached, but it's only about 50pts more expensive than the all-melta solution and also gets you a heavily geared Prime Magos ready to fix your tanks and tank a bit on his 2+ save, FNP and 4W.Against a primarch embedded in a T5 terminator squad, the demon headhunters average 4.8 wounds, which is within the same kind of slight-highroll range of oneshotting a primarch as meltas against EW(1) and will absolutely finish the job if the Primarch provokes Return Fire or Overwatch, after which the squad can maybe crit a few termies to death and die happy. Absolutely a gimmicky way to spend 400pts, but a fun one, since they'll shred basically any infantry if there's no characters to annihilate. Universal power daggers also aren't nothing if Jimmy Magos has incidentally provided WS5.
>>96478358Honestly it's cheaper to get into then 40k is, and I think AOS for the most part. Do some mathhammer for factions you like the idea of and build a 2K list. 2K is small enough to be 'cheap' most of the starter or bundle boxes are roughly 2K points. My logic is get the plastic dudemens, and print or third party the bling or weapons. As someone that prints, you can print 20 marines, easy. But it's easier to print 10 special weapons and just buy the 20 marines. Less chance for print failures and shenanagins.
I faced Salamanders for the first time yesterday.Oh boy did they went from zero to hero.Nobody told me they were the powerhouse of 3rd edition. Between fnp prime, great wargear and Vulkan being straight up broken: what's not to like.I'm happy for any sallies player after what they had in 2nd, but oh boy aren't they a pain to deal with now.Any advices on how to deal with them ? My biggest takeaway is that their units tends to be slow so speed is something I should play with if I have the tools but other than that, I don't see much. Magic has had the biggest fall from grace and total degradation in quality across every single aspect that it would be nearly impossible to name a product or IP that has imploded even 1/10th as much as it has. I have genuinely never in my life seen anything accelerate as rapidly towards the bottom as Magic has in <5 years. The cardstock and QC in general sucks, the art looks WORSE than ai slop, the mechanic and word count bloat (despite shortening keywords to make more room on cards to jam in more effects) is getting out of hand and encroaching on YGO levels of wordswordswords, the Magic IP and lore doesn't exist anymore and it's a vessel for 3rd party ads, the entire competitive scene is dead and no one plays constructed, they orchestrated a false flag coup to take over the only profitable surviving game mode so they could cater products and sets exclusively to EDH without any opposition (it was a strong possibility that the RC would have pushed back and blanket banned UB), physical print runs are being artificially strangled to the point that even if you wanted to play competitive magic you can't.Upper management genuinely hates you and wishes you would stop playing entirely so they can shift their business model to collectibles catered to whales to rake in as much short term profit before the 90s 'member berries' nostalgia bubble bursts in the early 2030s.
>>96467521This you?
It's insane that they didn't go with the Ikoria's model of how to do UB. I can't even rationalize it from their perspective. Only logical conclussion is that they did it purely out of spite for their existing playerbase.

>>96478410I don't know who Stahly is but for me it's a yay, I've been using them for almost a year and they get the job done (sometimes two coats are required but that's not always the case).Pic related is like the first proper set of minis I've painted almost a year ago, with no prior painting knowledge. Keep in mind that I'm still a total noob when it comes to this hobby and that I don't have much time to dedicate to painting in general, so take my opinion with a grain of salt
>>96478410And he is retarded for doing so. Contrast is one of the few Citadel paints that is just straight up subpar. Most Citadel stuff is good, not enough to recommend them over stuff that is just as good but cheaper, Contrasts, however, are not good. They are inconsistent in how they handle, some are thing, others thick, most don't cover flat areas well (pretty common with the kind of paint used, however, when your product line of miniatures features a lot of flat panels, you get dinged extra hard here).Speedpaints? Handle exactly the same. All of them flow the same, pool the same, cover the same, so you don't need different techniques for different paints. Contrasts don't even perform the same in the same shades and it's infuriating. AK is also good from what little I have used of it. Vallejo is too varied in terms of opacity with some areas requiring multiple coats to get a good shade which defeats the purpose, though their intense colors perform well. All in all, AK and SP are the best choices for knocking out gray hordes that look good but not art competition level.

I find it weird that WotC isn't more willing to ban broken cards in standard, let alone UB cards. If I was making the decisions, I'd point out that Vivi is definitely capable of seeing play in other 60-card formats, let alone commander (clearly its intended home). Banning Vivi likely wouldn't cause the price of the card itself to drop more than $10.
>>96478285banning vivi would cause the price to go up because nobody plays paper standard and the banning would cause more discussion about how good the card might be in other formats that people do actually play in paper.
>>96478310This, wotc should already drop the act of standard mattering at all. They could ban all cards in standard and it wouldn't really affect the prices of the cards because no one fucking plays standard anymore. Might as well try to balance it with properly if they want to keep up the charade
