It is the year 199X. Your friends have just sent you a text message to your Nokia 3210, saying they can't make tonight's D&D game.

Which of these games do you play, to single-playerly experience that classic 'dungeon crawler' feel?

what did they mean by this?
>>
>>97345793
>only one actually embodies the concept of chaos
>still just embodies it in the most stale, predictable fashion imaginable
seems pretty much not chaotic if you ask me
>>
>>97345793
Religiously, in traditional cultures/religion, "chaos" meant "the forces outside civilization." City = order. Wilderness = chaos. So anything animalistic like rage, rampant sex, gluttony--all traditionally "chaos" in things like Greek and Mesopotamian and Laventine religion (also the ocean is chaos for some reason). Just look at Gilgamesh or the Bible for stories where the good gods slay the chaos gods: yaweh versus leviathan, gilgamesh versus hambaba. Civilization good. Destablizing civilization? Chaos. Hence Enkidu (who gets away from chaos by drinking beer, eating bread and sleeping with a prostitute). Really, tzeentch embodies chaos least of all, out of them.
>>
Of course the real answer is just Moorcock and Anderson. That's where Warhammer and D&D both get their law/chaos dichotomy from.
>>
>>97345916
>also the ocean is chaos for some reason
this is perfectly reasonable logic if your seafaring technology caps out at coracles and a prayer

Heal as in generate dividend increases for shareholders and maximize the value of their shares, as is my fiduciary duty?

Abandon UW sets except as expensive collector's boosters available 3-4 times per year. Increase partnership efforts for UB sets including designated BDOs for From Software titles, Disney IP, Pokemon, and YGO especially. Severely cap free rewards in Arena and increase buy-in to Arena and MTGO. Aggressively pursue proxy makers in court, adopting a sue-to-bankrupt, legally agnostic policy in the footsteps of Games Workshop. Contract anyone willing to employ gacha mechanics and battlepasses to produce a bunch of competitive MTG-themed games in other genres, especially a shooter and a MOBA to get a cut of popular existing markets. Start developing a pitch for an Amazon television show, settle for Netflix if I must. Pay people to stream discussions about extremist politics while someone (I don't care if it's actually them) plays MTG in the background.

We're going to have to come up with a phrase for the new era of Warhammer 40,000 ushered in by the Amazon TV show, DoW 4 and Total War 40k, and increased market value of Games Workshop.

nu40k isn't going to cover it. nu40k is already bad enough for many of us from headier days like 1st through 4th edition. Got a game on Tuesday for some 2e40k action, 1500 points and I'm trialing one of the Dark Eldar 2e fandex lists I've found, this first one is built off and adapts 5e army list, the other two are built off adapting the 3e army list. We'll see how things go with these test games. I'm going to need to come up with 2 scratch built raiders and a ravager in time for it, though, I've got an idea on how to accomplish that, too. So fingers crossed I can get that done! Otherwise I'll just rewrite the test list to something else.

Here's a shot of my Kabal so far, finished the assembly this afternoon, 55 dark eldar warriors, 2 Archons/Dracons, a raider and a kitbashed Talos I built during the 5e codex release and range refresh, the pain engines weren't coming till 2nd release wave so I needed to come up with a solution for the lack of one until then. Tomorrow arvo I'll base and prime them all, except the Talos, he'll just get some painting done on him... 17 years after I built him.
>>
>>97341788
Post up the army list itself? I'm curious to see what it's like with stats and such, and what you're taking.
Any idea what you're facing?
>>

>Post up the army list itself? I'm curious to see what it's like with stats and such, and what you're taking.
Certainly! It's the 2e Dark Eldar fandex by "Grim Squeaker" which tells me nothing, but it's built off the 5e+ dark eldar army list, I included a screenshot of the cover for reference.

Dark Eldar Fandex list 1500 points.

Characters:
Archon: 174
Strategy Rating 4.
Splinter Pistol, Frag Grenades, Blind Grenades, Plasma Grenades, Agonizer, Poisoned Blade.

Dark Eldar Combat Drugs:
Painbringer: +1 T

My rationale is to bundle the Blaster/Splitercannon squads in a pair of raiders and push them up the table to contest and harrass the shit out of things, while the dark lance squad hangs back to snipe heavier shit. Archon and incubi are in the last raider and the Talos will act as a counter attack force where ever I get bogged down by the enemy. Ravager provides highly mobile anti armour/anti terminator/meganob platform. And hopefully, this gets me a win, but the ultimate is to see how fun this particular fandex is.

Cont.

> Dac
It’s largely going to be fish, shellfish, and sea plants, but how it’s prepared will depend on who’s preparing it: if it’s Mon Calamari, then it’ll likely be grilled or fried. If it’s Quarren, then it’ll probably be boiled or served raw. Yes, Quarren do sushi and Mon Calamari do fish & chips.

> Gungan
Seafood and water plants, typically made into hardy stews or soups. During large gatherings these may be served out of bowls as big as speeders

>Hutt
Paradoxically The actual Hutt Cuisine travelers want to try is from middle and lower class Hutt communities. Hutt upperclass cuisine is really just bougie junk food. At lower social strata, Hutt cuisine tries to mix high-end spices and ingredients with filling soul food. So Hutt street food is just leagues superior to Hutt “fine dining”

> Kubaz
It’s bugs, but it’s not like their served live or anything, they’re still cooked and seasoned well so once you get over the initial shock of “ew bugs!” It’s fine… the real problem with Kubaz cuisine is the host who will invariably be both over nosey, and simultaneously will over share.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

Wrote a battlereport of my battle so far if you care to read, along with lore for my warband

The Penitents of the Free states are made up of sinners captured within the free states of Prussia. Wondering if these are actual sinners or poor fools pulled off the street is heretical. Those that still see the light of God the Almighty are strongly encouraged to seek their penitence in the no man's land on long suicidal campaigns. They will fight until death, only then will their souls be judged anew, they seek baptism through bloodshed.

Battle Report 1: The Penitents marched to collect tithes from a wandering band of Infected Trench Pilgrims, and seek control of the no man's land. God had no mercy on the wretched penitents during this battle, we believe they may have lied about their true faith. Some Yeoman threw a satchel charge at their own lieutenant by accident, or heretical whispering. This decisive blow forced a complete retreat, one wounded shocktrooper perished in the cowardly withdrawal and needed replacement. The trench cleric reports “God was not with us, and we may only pray for his return”. Despite our Lieutenant suffering from the blast, they suffered no major scarring, and promptly executed the rest of our wounded. There will be more seeking penance on the path, but this battle led to a shaken morale, some wonder if there is even hope for redemption here.
>>
>>97345931
Battle Report 2: The Penitents were sent to reclaim Priceless Relics, not knowing those of the Iron Sultanite sought to capture them in the name of their religion. The battle between forces went remarkably well, God may have returned to us after all. Despite ending in a draw, the sound of distant whistles and chimes causing both sides to disengage, we left their troops with dark memories of the day they attempted to cross the true faith. We suffered minor wounds, and while we did not capture as many relics as our lord would have liked, we however learned from our mistakes and will be stronger another day. We explored the trenches and managed to claim a map that will aid further exploration attempts. Our Lieutenant and Cleric sharpened their blades and minds for the next battle.

>One thing I always thought was cool was the ability to "analyze" an enemy for many rounds
Yep, nothing similar to that and longer than a full action aim seems to be a default option in DH-related systems.
>I also really like the many different mundane methods for characters to work together in combat
Something similar might be found in the Inquisitor's Handbook for DH1E (and maybe in OW too), but it's not likely to be as much.
>When I look through the rules, it seems like there are more ways to get bonuses to hit during combat than for bonuses to noncombat skills in peaceful situations, which feels backwards to me.
Indeed, more effort was put into disassembling combat into separate modifiers than into disassembling non-combat activities the same way (as opposed to simply giving a range of total mods and telling the GM to pick).

No. The Emperor said none of those.
The "Burn the Heretic, Kill the Mutant, Purge the Unclean" is the result of ten thousand years of setting brainrot.

The idea it's anything else, is just fan circle brainrot, supported because BL are too hack-ish to write anything not about Astartes killing bad guys, or remembering that 40k motifs weren't common in 30k.

>Alien.
Permitted if they're amicable. Issue was, Dark Forest theory answered itself in that most aliens encountered weren't amicable. The politest regularly encountered were the Craftworld Eldar, who were still used to the idea of being a galactic empire themselves, and were pirates as much as anything else.

This got flanderized down into "All aliens are ebil, and must be killed on sight or you're a sinner."

>Heretics.
Literally weren't a thing. You have some marines arbitrarily using the word (because the writers forgot what the word means), but what you had were hostile factions, or traitors.

'Heretic' would only be adopted wholesale around m36 with the official adoption of the Imperial Cult.

You're arguing with someone who got all their lore from fuckin bluesky or some shit. They have bad opinions and they refuse to change them because it gives them a sense of smug moral superiority, and they probably tell their friends "oh I wish I could like 40k but it's just so full of evil people being evil" or other such faggotry. They're probably an athiest and thus dig for literally any reason to hate Big E because he vaguely resembles the abrahamic god.
In short, a retard and a troll. Don't feed 'em.

I feel bad for the Drukhari, their codexes have taken a real beating, and they have so few units. On the plus side, so few units means I could transfer them over into the BFK Mass Combat system easily enough, only took two hours or so.

About a decade ago JKR wrote a very polite essay saying that while trannies are heckin beautiful and valid, for the sake of women's safety they shouldn't be allowed in women's rape shelters.

Naturally this was literal genocide so queers have spent the last decade plus flooding her with death threats and throwing any baseless slander they can possibly think of at her, including "holocaust denier," "science denier," "antisemite," "nazi," "murderer," "misogynist," "alt-right," "hated by her family," and most bizarrely, "lives in a castle full of black mold."

All this because, naturally, they know no one outside the most deranged circles will view "anti-trans" as a bad thing. As a result JKR for her part has become significantly less willing to be bullied by alleged "progressives" over the years, which has created a feedback loop which occasionally creates some really funny twatter interactions, not that it's worth going to twatter to look.

With the current state of the audience for Traditional Games™ it's probably more effort than it's worth to try and create a Harry Potter system, what with the political backlash... but looking at that recent video game, maybe not.

>McGonagall probably expected Hermione wouldn't abuse the Time Turner and ONLY be a swot who takes extra lessons.
The idea that a high school teacher would even be in a position to decide whether or not to give one to a 13-year-old is so absurd as to strain credulity on its own. Hell, even if you trust the kid, all it takes is Malfoy being a particularly big prick that day and shaking her upside-down until it falls out of her pocket.

Honestly, I'd say it's probably more effort than it's worth to make a Harry Potter system, but not because of political reasons. More that with how loosely magic works in the HP system, you'd either have to make it insanely simple to fit the intended audience, or make it stupidly complicated to properly replicate all the magic shit. That and so many spell combos would be so beyond busted that you wouldn't need the killing curses, a specialized transfiguration specialist would basically be able to instantly win encounters by turning people into mice, and all of the loopy shit people do with stuff like prestidigitation in D&D is going to increase exponentially.

Granted, if it allowed me to play Rincewind in such a game, maybe, just maybe, I'd be interested. But more than likely I wouldn't be allowed to.

Fascinating. Im glad everything could be explained as "crazy people did something pointless for no reason", the world is much simpler that way
