>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.

Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. Talsorian Games.

If you take the Tower Ending of 2077 as canon, Arasaka is internally crippled and being replaced in NC by Militech while the Rogue AIs prepare a full scale invasion of the Net and realspace
>>
>>97825353
The world in The Red and 2077 eras is so fucked, a nuclear apocalypse would arguably be an improvement.

pretty crazy that I know this isn't AI slop but the style is identical to AI slop. it might actually be the open mouth scream - why does AI love doing that?

I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?

Go look at 3rd edition and see how much 4th edition pales.
>>
>>97825760
I'm aware the glut of information 3.x provides about various minutia such as this. What I'm asking is how would any of that actually help flesh a 4e game out and help a DM play to its strengths? What is lacking in PHB1, DMG1, the Rules Compendium, or any setting specific other book that would be necessary for a DM to provide for interesting roleplay or exciting encounter building, if not both? Part of what makes 4e so DM friendly is it doesn't concern itself with such things as rote standard, but provides just enough in case the DM wants to make things difficult. What is missing that a DM has to have to make 4e work better for what it does? Not what is missing that makes 4e inferior to your system of choice.
>>
>>97816081
A level 30 Defender will have about 194 hp at 30 while and level 30 Controller will have ~128 hp at that level. At 30 an Ancient Red Dragon is meant to be a standard solo opponent rather than a solo boss fight. Compare it to level 26 characters if you want an Ancient red Dragon to be a boss fight.
>>
>>97778542
If 4e was an automated campaign dungeon crawler type game like gloomhaven, it could have been one of the best board games ever made
>>
>>97825956
There were attempts. Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon and Legend of Dritzz. Dungeon Commander even made an attempt to dust off the old concepts from the Miniature Handbook, create a variety of warbands and go at it with another player using the very same combat mechanics of 4e while collecting treasure and managing army morale. Very fun stuff, but they also were very codified, and didn't scratch the same itch 4e could with how many different characters you could create using just one single class. Marketing outside of the 4e crowd was also slim, so the die hards probably only pulled them out when time for a full night of campaign play was limited.

>Muh mechanic's
Basically every game explains in its rules that the GM should come up with the world. The good ones even give him tools to do it with.

But fine, here's another example:
>What's your character's name
>Idk you tell me
>What's his motivation
>Idk you tell me
Those aren't mechanically defined or even required to play the game. This must be your ideal player since your ideal DM does the same thing with his job.
>>
>>97825458
>"DM, is there a blacksmith in this village?"
>Yea, sure, he moved out of the city to enjoy the quiet life after the accident. What was the accident?
>"What if... he was trying to forge a magic blade, and it blew up, accidentally killing his assistant? And him 'enjoying the quiet life' is actually him hiding from the Guild, who wants to bring him to justice?"
>That's sick, yea when you walk into the smithy you see a grizzled man pounding at an ingot with his left hand; his right hand is missing."

You're really gonna sit here and say "no, the DM should have pre-planned it all, and the player's fun idea for a plot hook is stupid"? Why not just have ChatGPT on text-to-speech and a robot roll your dice while your at it?
>>
>>97825482
It's not that the idea is stupid, it's that it completely derails the rest of the group and puts in meta-game knowledge that the players shouldn't have. So yes, if the DM wanted this blacksmith to have a plot hook asociated with him, he should prep that. If he didn't want that, then why should a player get to add it?

Second, you have no idea if this idea is good or bad. The DM has NOTHING on this blacksmith. He just showed up out of nowhere.

Here's how an actual game would work:
>"Hey DM, is there a blacksmith here"
>"Yes there is, he's a grizzled man missing his right hand. In it's place is a set of prosthetic set of tongs. They are of very high quality and probably weren't forged here."
>"Hmm, interesting. I ask him where he got the tongs."
>"He seems uncomfortable with the question, but responds he got them in the city before hurriedly asking your order."
Now, the players know something is up, but not the specifics and they can decided to follow it up organically instead of feeling forced because clearly Jimmy really wants to track down this new blacksmith quest (that doesn't actually exist yet because the DM didn't make it).

Also if is actually rich hearing you suggest ChatGPT to generate a game when clearly you can't be asked to do it yourself and rely on your players to do your job.
>>
>>97825684
>Here's how an actual game would work
oh shit there I go forgetting that I'm actually a nogames and the fact we're playing like this doesn't count

It's improv; the classic "yes, and..." rule. Why are they asking about a blacksmith? Is it because the party just found a McGuffin in the dungeon and are hoping an NPC could tell them what it is, or give them a lead to investigate it? Maybe the DM expected them to look for someone to cast Identify on it and was planning to introduce the College of Mages this session; and when the players take a more mundane route, they get to introduce a new character and new elements to the story.

Perhaps the blacksmith was forging the exploding-sword on behalf of a mage of the College - was he set up? Does the blacksmith recoil when they present the McGuffin, shouting "Get that Mage-wrought curse out of my shop!" and throw the half-worked molten ingot at them? The point isn't "holy shit this blacksmith is now the #1 most important NPC in the game"; they're just some irrelevant bozo that the DM could have made up on-the-fly, but instead decided to let the player contribute to the world. If the players latch onto this random NPC for whatever reason, the DM can always say "let's come back to this later once I've had a chance to work on him".

I'm not even the DM for the group right now, so attacking me personally isn't super convincing.

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?

I haven't seen Stargate, though I intend to at some point, but I somewhat disagree with your Farscape assesment.
What makes Crichton special is his knowledge of Wormholes, which he got not because of his humanity but by being decent to those ancient ones in the girl's bathroom episode. There was that one episode where he was less affected by the madness-cockroach alien, but that was treated as a useful side effect of humans being primitive rather than a general advantage.

Fundamentally impossible. The main consumer type for HFY stories are geeks who exist at the bottom rung of society. They're attracted to stories where humans have an inherent advantage that nets a win because it's the only thing they have IRL. People with any sort of self confidence don't need to read stories that jerk themselves off about how special and cool they are. The best way to avoid making a story like this is just remembering to not get lost in the sauce of spiritual auto-fellatio.

Alright, so what was the book of the weaver 4 dots thing?

While I’m at it, lore questions:
>I know that The technocracy and some of the traditions employ sleepers. I also know that you can have a localized consensus (like your home) where all your magic is either normal or coincidental. Furthermore the cult background goes along with this idea by having the people of your sect believing in the local consensus aligned with your beliefs. So the question is… can you bring sleepers into an horizon realm and have it inhabited? Like a space station? Even more, could you eventually turn it into a permanent home instead of something made of umbra stuff? I was considering that my character was an ace pilot fighting against extraterrestrial threats (like D.Va and the mecha kaijus), but still a teen and quite a hothead. Even if she’s one of the best her temper got her “grounded”. So she’s sent back on Earth with other teen pilots, in a fake foster home with sergeants as “foster parents”.

>>97825843
Yeah that’s the plan. Telling the ST and the spheres to pick. Though I was thinking more of a Simon in Gurran Lagann. My mage wouldn’t have created her mech suit, but she managed to amplify it and unlock its true power through determination. I also heard about periapts that can accumulate and store quintessence, get rid of paradox. That sounds really good.

>>97825895
Might be hard if it uses changeling rules, but I’m interested. Got rules?

>I have no clue if the chronicle will last long enough to reach that point but what would the actual effects of that be, I imagine there were a few ventrue businesses tied up in those towers and not a small number of ghouls.
If I recall correctly, New York was firmly Sabbat territory in the early new millenium. The World Trade Center towers themselves would make a poor haven for Ventrue antitribu, thanks to all the windows, especially due to the mass amount of kine going in and out on a daily basis. All that happened during the day, so licks waking up in the evening would be aghast to find out everything that happened.

The real problem for kindred would probably be the firefighters and police digging around in the ruins and snooping around underground tunnels for survivors long after the attack. Nosferatu in particular would have to bug out in a hurry. The hijackers were identified very quickly, so I have no doubt Sabbat religious figures would start screeching about Assamite plots and Noddist doomsday alarmism while others would be wise enough to see a war was about to start. Keep in mind the War on Terror evolved into the Gehenna War for many reasons and not just the Beckoning.

All in all I'd portray the kindred reacting the same way the kine did: Panic, rage, paranoia, etc. The Lasombra and Ventrue antitribu might even organize reprisal attacks on Assamites in the city thinking it was some kind of orchestrated attack on their business interests.

nta, but the book of weaver has some mech suits that you can buy with a background called device that every splat and even non splat members can in theory buy. it also has no Gnosis rating meaning that despite it being weaver tech it's technically mundane tech and can be enchanted with any sort of magic system your character knows

the lucemon tamer is a beach boys reference due to the etymology of his last name. due to the etymology of his first name he is likely a charles manson reference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u90beUXTKwo

if u think this is schizo posting consider how obscure the reference in heavymetaldramon is. Considering how popular Paradise Lost is its possible that Zephagamon's burst mode having an angelic motiff is a refrence to the angel Zephon who guarded the gates of eden from Satan alongside Ithuriel under the command of Micheal ( who has a badass 2h sword in that poem)

Going by BG Stats, Imperial Struggle. My ADHD-ridden brother gets his ass spanked every single time. But that's more his ADHD than me being good, so Brass and Power Grid are two others where my win rate is 2+ times higher than the expected win rate for the player count.

>dice or fixed values for combat resolution?
Most dice resolution sucks shit through a straw, yes even in otherwise good games, very quickly turning them into snakes and ladders. Dice should either have marginal impact or there should be some serious luck mitigation mechanics. Most times when people cope that these mechanics exist, the mitigation mechanics are the marginal part, not the core dice luck aspect.

On the other hand, fixed value combat is much harder to design, especially in a way that's not boring. I can name the number of good games with such combat on 2 fingers. They are Dune and Kemet.

I pretty much never lose Ticket to Ride, even when players actively target me. Although one time I did get a perfect score of 22 in Splendor. (Bought a 5 point card when I had 14 points, and aid card also gave me a 3-point noble tile).
Dice Combat is weird. I love it in Hoplomachus, Summoner Wars, and Eclipse. I hate it in WOTR and War for Arrakis. It's a game by game thing.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

Read the lore newfag.

But to summarize

>Heretic Legions (who are very specifically heretics, and not apostates or anything like that) actually have/had a specific motivation, ie "We demand equality with God".
>This is part of a specific (and heretical, this is what the word means) reinterpretation of religious dogma where God is actually a Tyrant for XYZ reasons, meaning going against the faith's instructions and your god-given intuition on morality is now a good thing.
>Hence, why the Heretics and the Faithful are both stable in logic, but cannot abide the other to exist as they're diametrically opposed to each others' very nature.
>This causes seethe in some people who insist that God=unambiguous good, and Heretics must be an inane, random evil, and not a logical, considered one.
>>
>>97825343
I think the point of the ambiguity is that individual people on both sides are existing in system that makes them do terrible things to survive. It doesn't seem to come up in the discourse but aberhamic monotheism is absolutely not a utilitarian philosophy. the church routinely torture children in order to receive strategic prophecies, that is a sin. the people born into existence within the heretic side are also simply trying to survive.
>tldr: its not that heretics are good, its that the faithfull are also committing evil.
>>
>>97825351
There are retards like the guy who replied to you both here and on Twitter/Reddit who unironically think the Heretics have a logical argument for serving the things that wish to torture all Creation for all eternity until existence itself unravels.
>>

This seems deranged.

>>97825768
I see your point anon
>>
>>97825638
Anon as a Heretic Legions player, you have to be so fucking vile that the literal gates of Hell find no goodness in you. If you're found to be less than a total uncomprimising irredeemable piece of subhuman shit, your soul burns before the hellgate for eternity.
There is no gray with that.
Hell are in fact the bad guys even if they have the barest argument that God's creation being imperfect means that he created suffering explicitly.
