>>97834873To make it work you should lower the numbers all around, not inflate them. Less damage but less frequent healing
>>97826273You weren't even calculating the fact you get two weapon masteries and handaxe has vex, leading to overall increased hit and crit rate on yoir nick and bonus action unarmed strike. I still would prefer battle master tbdesu
Are there any weapon types you would have in your games that aren't represented in the DMG or PHB?>Caestus/Brass Knuckles - 1d8 Bludgeoning, benefits from any features that affect Unarmed Strikes>Atlatl - uses Javelins or Spears as Ammunition, has Loading, does 1d10 Piercing at 60/180 rangeI was going to suggest Tonfas as well but I feel like that's just a reflavored Club.
>>97833019>>97833073>>97834268And on a similar note: No matter what kind of dragon it is, you never ever, ever, ever, EVER refer to a dragon’s hoard as “junk”, especially while they’re in earshot.Dragons are very proud of their hoards and are very sensitive about it.
>>97835179some of the things im considering>buff heal to 24 values (playing 14)>death saves are con saves>exhaustion lvl each time go to 0 hp>getting damaged while unconscious isnt auto death save fail, but allows con save like for concentration (10 or half damage whichever is higher), however it's a auto hit in melee (but not auto crit)basically im trying to make hitting downed players a more natural thing for mobs to do while being less overwhelmingly punishing, and giving player's some counterplay, and also get rid of the stupidity of healing a player at 0 being more efficient than healing them before they go to 0
Hey /tg/ I have a problem. One of my players is a genuine incel. He's 27 and I'm pretty sure he's never had sex. He definitely hasn't gotten laid in a while. He's not really ugly just kinda weird and awkward. I feel bad for him. But he is taking his extreme thirst out in the game. >every time his character, a human eldritch knight, comes back from our adventures he always tries to play up the angle of "we saved the town, where are the girls to suck my dick as thanks?">he constantly talks about how his character is 6 foot 2 (he's 5 foot 8 irl)>he talks out of his ass a lot about medieval times and says that peasant girls were way healthier than modern women.>says how farmers would be begging to marry their lithe 17 year old daughters to him>he talks about medieval demographics and criticizes the DMa works building (which is actually kinda shit to be fair) >you can just tell how excited he is talking about how there should be a dozen villages between these two cities on the map, like he is stopping just short of talking about how many nubile virgin farm girls are there for his fighter to fuckWe tried talking to him about it but he twisted it around to make the rest of us sound like we were fucking gay or something. Also his character is too important to the story to kick him, and running him as an NPC would suck the fun out of it since there's be a lot of the DM just roleplaying with himself while the rest of us watch. So....any advice? Its not worth ruining the game over by kicking him, and nothing is so blatant to be a clear social violation, but the dude is just oozing incel energy and I feel like I should subtly suggest to the DM something that will set his head on straight, and possibly help cure his mindset. Any ideas?
>>97835338He's just the manifestation of Rousseau's ideas going cancerous.
>>97834167The problem is you took the bait, retard.
>>97833928No, his character isn't too important to the story to kick him.
>>97834014>Stop making characters "important to the story" as if you're writing a fucking novel instead of playing a game.We didn't make it that way it's just how it evolved. And I'm asking for an in-game way to humble him or resolve this so he stops thrust for virgin peasant girl pussy because he can't get any irl.
>>97834119>showing that it's a two-way problem for sureHow is it my problem?>>97834137>Ok, he was in the right then, you are a theater faggot. He's gotten himself involved in too much to kick him. We're not storyshittiers, the story evolved naturally. .>>97834174>Tell him to masturbate before coming to games nights thenWe sort of did and then he called us gay for trying to remove women from the game and force his character to be asexual.

>>97835427According to Keith in 5e Chronicles of Eberron, p. 141:>One of the core themes of Eberron is that player characters are remarkable, and that they can achieve things normal people can’t. For the sake of argument, imagine that you discover the dragons of Argonnessen are going to destroy Khorvaire in a week. Rallying the nations won’t be too much help, because this isn’t a problem that can be solved by a humanoid army—all the armies of the Five Nations combined would be slaughtered within minutes if they faced the full force of Argonnessen. King Boranel has no particular influence when negotiating with the dragons; they don’t care about his crown or his nation. This doesn’t mean that humanity is doomed; it means that the adventurers will have to do something seemingly impossible—perhaps sneak into Argonnessen and find a way to make the Conclave listen to them. How? Maybe they can somehow channel the spirit of Ourelonastrix. Maybe they can threaten to release the Daughter of Khyber if the dragons don’t back down. Maybe they can find proof the Conclave has misinterpreted the Draconic Prophecy. So while all the horses and all the king’s men may be useless in this struggle, a few bold adventurers may be able to do the impossible. This section is particularly janky and unappealing to me. Keith starts it off by saying, "PCs are special and can achieve things normal people cannot!" and then goes on to clarify "Well, if the PCs want to save Khorvaire from dragons, then they will have to resort to an even more powerful cosmic entity, or convince the dragons to back down (pretty please)."The way Keith Baker has written Eberron's dragons is such that there is, flatly, no way whatsoever for a single decisive battle against a big draconic villain to save the world.
>>97835522There is, if you want to do that. Dragons are pretty individualistic, and tend to fuck off and do their own thing. You could even make one of those doomsday cults be headed by a heretic dragon. They'd be hard pressed if you wanted to make a 3000 year old great wyrm with epic magic be the villain, or especially if you think that destroying Argonnessen will somehow improve things instead of making them worse, but it's not impossible to have a dragon villain.
>>97835549>Dragons are pretty individualisticNot the eberron dragons. They're all working for a single group, and any that don't play ball gets taken out by the other dragons. And either way, even you yourself admit they're so uber powerful you'd have to invent some deus ex machina to make them beatable by PCs... Which is entirely against the way the setting was written originally, which was that the PCs were meant to be able to enact actual, significant change.Except that significant change apparently isn't allowed to include anything involving argonessenLike, one of the talking points was how there were no uber-powerful NPCs running around but somehow Keith doesn't think his uber dragons count as NPCs?
>>97835589No, Eberron dragons are very individualistic. They actually consider it expected for younger dragons to go fuck around, build cults, break the rules, fuck with humans, et cetera. LARP in the wilderness and fuck kobolds or something. And my example was that you needed to consider things carefully, whether by placing obstacles the players can actually overcome or by providing opportunities for them to leverage, and not just throw the strongest thing around at the players and expect them to win, because that's really fucking lame.
>>97835549>>97835589While the Light of Siberys (the draconic military) has a centralized hierarchy led by a single dragon holding the rank of Eternal Flame, we already know the Conclave, the Eyes of Chronepsis, and the Chamber to all be decentralized and without any one true leader. This goes all the way back to the original 3.5 Eberron Campaign Setting, p. 229:>The Chamber has little structure or organization. Members share knowledge as warranted, even keeping dragons that aren’t part of the group informed about their findings and observations. Some dragons of the Chamber spend decades disguised as members of the lesser races, serving as advisors to kings or silent observers. This decentralized structure has been repeated in later lore sources covering dragons. It is something I dislike about the way Eberron is written. PCs are supposed to be super-special heroes who can beat up bad guys and save the world, but Keith frequently writes up antagonist organizations as decentralized in structure.>Like, one of the talking points was how there were no uber-powerful NPCs running around but somehow Keith doesn't think his uber dragons count as NPCs?I think that the issue is not just in how Keith likes to emphasize just how super-duper-strong dragons (and everyone else, really) are, but also in how Keith likes to conveniently mention that these antagonist organizations are decentralized in structure.
I never realized how many players suffer from aphantasia and insist on using miniatures. Are you one of them, or do you embrace the unmatchable graphics of theater of the mind?
>>97834318No, not really. In the same location, within distant range. In the same section, within close range. Being behind someone doesn't matter, heroes don't provide cover. You can take the Defending Others action if you want to protect an ally or civilian.
>>97833847Getting back to normal sleep cycles is important, but so is having a life outside of your home. Take a walk, meet people, read books. It will come back. It takes time.
>>97831518I've played with minis, without aids of any kind, digital, drawings on a chalkboard, drawings in the sand with rocks. Having a visual aid so you spend less time explaining to players how the fight is arrayed goes a long way.
>>97831630>Why would you use any art you can just imagine it?>Why would you want a game with graphics, just imagine the game outside of the data>Why would you ever read a manga or watch a show or movie when you can just read or listen to books and audio files?Maybe just maybe fun things are fun. Yes I could just use coloured blocks on a grid but that makes immediate identification of characters/units harder and is sligjtly less enjoyable.
>>97834870>Aphantasia is not being able to form pictures in your mindYes that's what I mean I have trouble visualizing things like I used to. And yeah I'm a dumb faggot for ruining my brain with unhealthy choices. I regret it all but now I need to just see what I can do to make it better, if at all possible.

“The strength of a wizard isn’t in how much magic they can muster, but how effective their magic is in effect”What’s more powerful? The wizard who can blow up planets or the wizard who can control one (1) mind without any defence against it?
>>97764591Depends on the situation.
>>97764591>fucking Reformists are at it againIt's about how much mana the wizard can control.Anyone can be taught how to cast a specific spell (given enough time), but the amount of energy you can manipulate as a conduit without exploding is set in stone (without the use of external factors such as artifacts or self-adjusting rituals).Yes, your mind wizard can just take control of the planet explosion wizard, but if the later has a higher mana capacity, then eventually he could be taught how to control the minds of a thousand wizards.
>>97764591Unless that one mind you control has absolute control of planets and their people, I'd go with planet destroying power. You can at least threaten people into submission. Imagine trying to defeat an army by just controlling a single mind. >>97835409Winr exists so your statement is incorrect but I don't really see the issue with Shoto. His character arc from shitter to world champion was absolutely earned.Though I will agree that Liberator has cooler side characters.
>>97835399I hate Liberator because longstrip/webcomic is a shit format.
>>97835451This. Put me off immediately.
I'll start>D&D 5E is a heroic fantasy game (I didn't say good), trying to do anything else should have you using a different system.
>>97834934The Basic Rules 5e PDF is superior to the full books and rules for that edition of the game. It's a fully playable game. It's easy to learn. The only thing in the PHB is a bunch of retarded character options when you level up. Shit that shouldn't be in the game in the first place. The DM can make up, steal, or download infinite magic items, monsters, or anything else. Holy shit I feel like half you guys are retards without a creative bone in your body. Or illiterate.
>>97835369... this is the best you can pull? Seriously?
>>97835312I feel like you learned one rhetorical device and decided that was all you need. This isn't just about what's a mechanically good game. Yes if it was all about that people would just play a limited number of centuries to millenia old games. But that's a narrow idea of what a game is and what can make it good. People didn't start doing all this shit for no reason. They did it because every genre of more modern board game, card game, miniature game etc. has particular qualities that make it unlike other games in positive ways rather than just negative ones. This doubly so goes for games with a huge hobby aspect-its not a disadvantage that you have to build and paint your game pieces. That's part of the draw for most people. The Dnd point is extra tenuous because any experience playing as a kid underlines why an rpg framework is important to that experience. Because everybody remembers getting in a loop of "well I have a faster gun so you die". "Well I have a gun that shoots bullets back in time so you die". "Well I'm wearing armour that makes me immune to bullets". People who say they're exclusively interested in the quality of gameplay are baffling at this stage in /tg/ spheres. On the one hand they could just stick with highly abstract classic games, on the other hand they could get into competitive video games. Instead they hang around an orbit of hobbies where clearly gameplay is just one part of it and where their gameplay will be, obviously, much less refined and elegant than other easily available games, and in which that gameplay is watered down by hobby, creative, imaginative and aesthetic dimensions that are an integral part of their appeal to most people who engage in them.
>>97833562>>97829324The trolls are starving. (If you want me to feed you, define "roleplaying")>>97833672The decision to include that bit was to add even more "mechanics speak" at the table. It's not an endorsement of the mechanic.
>>97833615I think you have to prepare some things. Folks like discovery and learning about the world they are imagining. If you are improvising every detail it can become a little unsatisfying. I do absolutely agree with you that prepping "situations" rather than "plots" is meaningful. That, and letting whatever story is being told change based on the actions of the characters. Like many things in life, it ends up being a moderation of improv and planning.>>97835150>>97835186NTA. I think there's merit to preparing some things that players can choose to interact with or not. Secrets about the world for players to discover (or not). As well as preparing - in advance- for what characters encounter based on their prior actions. I agree that preparing an expected outcome or limiting the player choice to solving any given problem is bad GMing.
Now that the dust has settled, is it the D&D killer it was hyped up to be?
>>97830779Demon Lord (essential 1e) is unapologetic in how it wants to make the world an irredeemable hellscape, and there is some scat related stuff in it to push this concept. Weird Wizard (essentially 2nd Edition to Demon Lord) files alot of the overtly over the top stuff and keeps it grounded to a more neutral fantasy that can be shifted darker or lighter as you see fit. The core rules are also largely better than Demon Lord as well, just not as much content simply due to being the newer game.
>>97828410What actually makes it different from typical D&D fare? I've heard a lot of good things, but seeing yet another d20 fantasy game made my eyes glaze over.
>>97832339I don't know about Weird Wizard but do know Demon Lord. Here's some of the differences that improve the game >You gain a level after each adventure.>Max level is 10>Previous two points make for short campaigns so it piss easy to actually finish a complete campaign>Your stat modifier is your ability score minus 10, so a 12 in strength would be a +2 and an 8 would be -2>All trait checks are a flat 10 to pass>Game uses boons and banes mechanic which are situational modifiers. Each boon/bane adds a d6 to your trait check. Boons and banes cancel each other out.>If you roll multiple boons, you take the highest value and add it to your d20 plus trait modifier to beat the TN of 10. Same with banes but you subtract the highest d6 from your roll.>There is no initiative roll. Players act in whatever order they want then enemies unless surprised.>Rounds of combat are broken down in Fast and Slow round. Fast goes first you can move OR take an action, then enemies have their fast round. Then Slow rounds happen where you can move AND take an action. Then enemies get their slow round. You cannot take a Fast and Slow turn in a round, it's one or the other.>All damage is d6 based. >Character builds determine damage not equipment.>Game starts lethal and stays lethal
>>97820448Not really. In a way I think D&D is the best TTRPG for being a filter of the trend chasers and who actually are genuinely in the hobby. Same with Warhammer for wargaming.
>>97820448Nope. Where it does things differently, it's underbaked. Where it mirrors 5e, it's shallow. It feels built by committee from a group of people who liked some ideas but, somehow wanted to make them worse. For example:>I like the idea of a success/fail mechanic that includes a different axis such as advantage/disadvantage. >But rather than make it follow rationally from difficulty and character skill (such as Genesys) let's make the likelihood of good/bad complication be entirely 50/50 and create a needless metacurrency>We like PbtA moves and GM turns>Let's tie GM actions to a random metacurrency>Accessories like reference cards are super popular among hobbyists >Let's design our game so that it's near mandatory to include tokens and cardsIt's also incredibly shallow. Power levels scale wildly and challenges are fairly trivial. If 5e is "high" fantasy, DH is "coked out"
