>>97271908Not that anon, but if I had to guess, I imagine all tribes below who want to integrate and/or deal with the US for anything would have to free their slaves and end their slave trade. Perhaps it happens with the other epigean powers (with the exception of Leopoldville, though that is hidden by the city's authorities). Atlan, New Mu and Atlantis would be too big to be forced to free their slaves, though. Abolitionists could be seen by them as a threat to their authority (same for the Sky Clans, though that could vary from clan to clan).
>>97232032Flavorful stuff. Consideration might be paid towards a Caste system mechanic, which was notably preserved by the OTL Mughals. After dealing with the overlapping complex rules in the Austrian book, that might be too much to ask. The math as far as stats seem sound. The spooking rules for the elephant-based units might need some interaction with other mounts, horses/camels, to reflect the sight/sound/smell interaction they're noted as having. The meme regarding elephants being supreme on the battlefield holds water, as other forms of cavalry would have their mounts spook when in contact with elephants. Conversely, Indian and African elephants have distinct issues when dealing with small insects in the vein of mosquitos and bees. May not be relevant to revising the rules, but it remains interesting.
>>97271974>Cast mechanicI did think of adding that as a general mechanic, but it did screw with some of the rules, plus choosing to make the general rule closer to the lemurian prophecies was much simpler.>Elephant spooking ruleI'm not keen of buffing more the elephants by adding penalties to the opponent's cavalry. They are already quite dominant. And if we increased their price accordingly, many would not pick them, as they would be prohibitely expensive. >BeesNot related to the book, but I wanted to add a beekeeper-like agarthan unit, even if it was just for the memes. Not sure if I should propose it before the mercenary book refresh, though.
>>97272057>BeekeeperWith all the noncombatant and settler-type units that are emerging it might be advisable to move them to the campaign book or their own thing. Or not, since we do already have a lot of books. For the beekeeper something tells me it would be cool if instead of having a beekeeping structure for Merovingian bees you instead house them in a guard tower from the tribal book. They need a large bee home for their large bee bodies.

What are some of your experiences with BRP or mythras? Favorite stories, characters, or supplements? I generally like running pulp or horror campaigns. Funniest story setup was how my players thwarted a small series of adventures I planned before it even started.>Players role up an old priest, a journalist, and basically fred from scooby doo. >Investigating a series of murders and disappearances. >Get captured thesmelves and wind up in a rundown factory converted to sort of look likea victorian mansion.>Meet an obvious vampire who uses them for basic company and conversation before planning to kill them.>My players escape, the frail priest manages to full nelson the vampire, and the other players manage to use a stake to kill him. It ended what I planned to be a multi session adventure in one night. It was a lot of lucky roles and ended up with being funny.

(i have had to homebrew around that)>Focus on simulationism even more than other d100 games might feel overly constraining.>it is more of a toolkit system as far as magic is concerned especially.>piles a lot on the gm to get it running properly.>character creation is kinda flawed and deigned towards making you mediocre at 5-10 things.Generally a lot of constrains when creating characters feels like an over correction more than anything. >Combat style is inherently superior to other combat skills like evade, endurance and willpower which are your resistances>action point system is kinda gamey and hardlocks you a little bit into mostly defending if numerically disadvantaged >lack of gm advice and procedures for dungeoncrawling, hexploration, sandbox play even if it was large part of the oldschool d100systems with settings like griffin island, especially considering that all the tools for such a style of play are there and the d100 is probably the only other game that can do that as well as the osr>armor is a little weaker than it should be.>the way xp rolls are gained is just worse and more gamey than the other organic ways used in d100 systemsComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97270691>>97269950This covers a good chunk of the cons. They did try to fix some of the issues with the target location thing by making that counter combat maneuver, but that implies a success getting used for that just to negate an issue. Make it really punishing if it happens.I would disagree and say armor can actually be a little too strong in mythras at times in the hands of the players.
The more I play, the more I really want someone to do an egyptian or greek campaign guide. I am surprised that neither chaosium or the design mechanism has done it yet. Chaosium would probably fuck it up to be honest, but their vikings book and the last creatures book were actually decent so who knows.

yes when I gm, never when im a player. ive even play exclusively women in mmos, but i never think of myself as "roleplaying" in those games.when im a gm, i do it to the best of my ability to build a world for my players.as a player, i have no desire to play anything but a man. i don't really know how to explain it outside of "it feels weird" despite doing it all the time as a gm.
>play male PC>ends up being a pretty basic wild card character>play female PC>actually ends up as a proper characterWhy is this? Is it because it's easier to just self insert and disregard the on-paper character when it's a dude, while the foreign perspective of a female forces me to actually engage with the character concept?

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! For all its shortcomings in the censorship department, I think Dolmenwood mostly does well to add to the B/X base with clarifications, some from AD&D. For someone like me who is too autistic to organically fill in the blanks left in the rules, it's great material. The SRD is a bit messy, but at least it is easy to navigate (and thus it is easy to cherrypick the additions). It specifies the weight of misc. adventuring gear as well as things adventurers are capable of (thus preventing mudcore slowdown of play). However it still does not complete the wilderness game or add a complete domain game.
>>97266427Go with OSE. The best gateway into OS D&D. This general will try to convince you otherwise as it is popular and therefore bad
