So anime stylization is often times both juvenile and angsty, that's just par for the course. You getting offended by a spade being called a spade broadcasts not only your proclivity for amateurish art but also emotional immaturity over accepting things as they are.

Being insecure about your own maturity and how liking certain things will make you less mature is itself a sign of immaturity.

Why did 5.5e drop the ball so hard? Everyone I know who likes 5e is staying with 5.0e. And more than a few of them have moved to 3.5, OSR, or other games entirely.
Is WOTC just stupid?

>The luck
>IT WAS LUCKY! IT WAS JUST LUCKY!!! 5E NATTY 20'D for 11 years in a row ignore that please AND THATS THE ONLY REASON IT BTFO MY FAVORITE FAILDITION OF D&D!!!

>And the core rulebooks of 3.5 sold [numbers]
Like I said we don't trust you with those anymore after the mathematic catastrophe you just demonstrated where you thought 100k book sales would translate to "hundreds of millions".
Besides, Ben Riggs already proved you wrong. 3.5e itself didn't even sell 1m, you can just barely get 1m if you include LIFETIME sales of 3e and 3.5e.
You'll cry when you google this and realize I'm 100% right again and reality still doesn't align with your delusions.

>GURPS never top-fi-
Doesn't matter, you said discourse is what you're using as a measurement. GURPS has had persistent discourse since 4th came out, which was before 3.5e. It is therefore the most successful ttrpg ever according to you.
Wanna try shifting the goalposts again?
>>
>>97226949
>Anyways the burden of proof is on you, not me.
"3.5 is a garbage failure and 5e is the best system ever" is an extraordinary claim you have offered very little and poor evidence for, so the primary burden rests on you.

>tl;dr "I am a nogames but I want to pretend my opinions matter"
The point is literally that my personal opinion means little, and thus I focus on what I see from others.

>Which is why WOTC dropped it 5 years in and put up a new... Oh they didn't?
Because the total of users kept rolling.

>They just keep printing new modules and making bank through insane player retention?
No, modules and setting-specific material sales pale in comparison to setting-agnostic supplements, and the core rulebooks remaining strong "evergreen" sales only occurs when you have an ongoing intake of users that would only reflect retention if supplements continue growing considerably.

>While Saltmarsh is set in the World of Greyhawk by default, you can slot it into another published setting or your homebrew setting with no problem!

This sentiment is present in both the DMGII from 3.5e as well at 5e's GoS. What this tells me is that somehow this fuckass port town manages to appear on every major planet in the multiverse. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Dark Sun Saltmarsh somewhere on somebody's table.

So how does Ilmater feel about:
>killing somebody that is about to cause suffering
>causing pointless suffering to yourself your character considers character building, like self flagellation
>>
>>97225949
There wasn’t that much to Saltmarsh that made it unique. Just a generic coastal town with some new and old friction and smugglers. That’s why it can fit anywhere.

The generic D&D setting was popularised by Dragonlance novels rather than Tolkien. Eg wizards casting limited spells rather than being angels or something. Most D&D settings fit that general mould to fit in the usual races and tropes. My personal favorite kitchen sink setting is Mystara. I like the different nations and hollow world. Adventurers can even become Immortals if they get powerful enough. I doubt WoTC will wipe their ass with it anytime soon because it depicts real world nations and ancient cultures. Something that is apparently inherently racist or some shit.

It is kind of cool to think there is a Saltmarsh in every world. Kind of like a site of special power or something. Maybe in Dark Sun it would be literal and have a Saltflat wasteland rather than all that water.

In IK humans actually came first, the future elven gods studied them for a bit then had a hold my beer moment. Actually justifies their sense of superiority as humans were created by the Father of Man accidentally, whereas they were both a deliberate creation, and intended to be an improvement. For a while everything was good, then as is standard in tabletop wargames, shit went downhill fast. Fast forward a bit and all but two of their gods are dead or missing, and of the two they still have, one is in a coma and slowly dying, while the other is frozen in a block of ice, and is in the possession of the setting's equivalent of imperial Russia. Also some of their children have started being born without souls, this may have something to do with their goddess that governed reincarnation being one of the ones that went missing, and half their race has been corrupted by a dragon, which in IK are a mix between Godzilla and The Thing.

This happens a lot in star wars discussions. Lucasharts demand the force be vaguely defined, but get furious when force unleashed, phantom menace, clone wars (2003), etc. "break the rules" they just said shouldn't be defined by daring to make it more impressive than 80s SFX limitations.

I'm excited to see where Haoran's relationship with her father develops. I think Haoran is in a prime position to develop a heart demon of sorts. She has a pretty nasty inferiority complex and bouts of paranoia that i think could worsen depending on how the expedition in the ghost lands go. Maybe some evil fucking wizard shenanigans? She already has some pretty scathing critiques of the Xun clan and the greater cultivation world. I would like for her to come out of these trials better for it, but i guess we'll see where it goes. I also think her cultivation could have some interesting applications if she is able to gain some more Natural Insight.

stereotypically, men think in objects while women think in relations. Men think about how to solve a problem, women think about how to feel about a problem. It's why men tells stories directly while women meander. It also relates to communication, where men want to talk solutions or not talk at all, and women want to share feelings about the situation. Men want to know why the car is making that sound, women want to share feelings about the broken car.
Ideally, though, you've gotta remember that women are as varied as men are. The women in my family are relatively masculine in that they're driven, headstrong, and they love sports.

Personally I prefer the older 40k rpgs. By trying to make one generic system for any style of 40k game, it comes across as muddled. Each of the ffg games knew exactly what they were trying to achieve in terms of tone/gameplay/etc so they could do it well.

They are really focusing on the whole patrons thing for this one, and so far it looks like every book is going to be (Patron Organization) Players Guide and (Patron) GM's Guide.

You're never going to get gems like Disciples of the Dark Gods or Lure of the Expanse which add things to the game instead of retreading old lore material.

Hey /tg/ I'm playtesting an initiative system that's been tried before in other systems and is detailed nicely on "Tabletop Curiosity Cabinet"
The system uses Meyer (and Kieth Farrell's modern adaptation) of "Vor, Nach, Gleich, Indes" as steps in a fight.
Basically, the player with the initiative chooses an action ("Vor"). The enemy chooses a reponse ("Nach"). The dice are rolled to determine an outcome ("Gleich") and the movement into the next state ("Indes").
Practically it looks like: Player A chooses a bind. Player B chooses to parry. Both players resolve a dice roll. The resolution will determine who has initiative for the next system.
Very fencing-like, and makes initiative more of a "push-pull" based on success rather than a "you-go, I-go" traditional style.
I believe systems like TRoS and their derivatives (like Song of Swords) use a similar sort of initiative style.

My questions for the thread:
1. While this system works pretty well for individual combats, it struggles when there are multiple combatants. It also falls into the same trap of "you go, I go" which is; in a real fight, you're probably waiting for an opening (e.g. an enemy attacking an ally) to take advantage of in order to strike. I wonder if anyone has creative solutions to this problem?
2. Are there initiative systems that you find work well? Anyone forego initiative entirely in favor of fully narrative initiative (e.g. Daggerheart)?

>2. Are there initiative systems that you find work well?
7th Sea 1st edition.

Round is divided into 10 phases.
You roll a number of d10 equal to your Panache (2-6) and whatever you rolled shows in which phases you act. You can have more than one action per phase. Whenever you expend an action a die with that number rolled is removed from your initiative pool. If multiple characters have actions in the same phase the first to act would be the one with higher sum of initiative dice still on the table.

For example Character rolls 2, 3, 8 (Panache 3) while a Pirate rolls 3,9 (Panache 2). Character expends action in phase 2 to throw a bunch of Brutes overboard the ship. In phase 3 both Character and Henchmen have an action, but since Character expended his phase 2 die his initiative total is 11 instead of 13 and thus Henchmen would act first.

It may seem convoluted at first, but after you get accustomed to it its fucking perfect for swashbuckling adventures that 7th Sea is made for.

No this genuinely seems so fun. Does this result in simultaneous actions?

Dice rolls that are equal or within 1 number of each result in a double where both attacks get through

Technically - no, You can play it like this, but there are ways of resolving who acts first within a phase. Though you also can spend 2 initiative dice to do interrupts.

Well, I use occasionally because in fencing there's just this phenomenon of anticipating where a strike is most likely to come from, usually lunging or striking into a strong bind and trying to find a way to thrust at the end of an exchange. So, it's not quite the case that both combatants just swing. You might have similar luck in waiting for someone to press, step out of position or with a weak guard and striking with riposte.
The men's longsword final from the Norway Open in 2016 is my favorite example of this. In that bout the more agressive combatant did much better.
Compared to the Black Horns Cup from 2024- the third place bout shows Donchenko playing an almost entirely defensive strategy for the first three points, scoring through counter attacks.

Even then, it's also the case that in fencing that both combatants do (in fact) hit each other at the same time. It's more a matter of who landed the surest strike and where.

I'd like to think of a way to simulate this that's fun.
