what's the best tabletop rpg if I want to make a campaign that's basically a shonen anime style tournament?

well plot only happens if you actually write it so just do the system you know with that number of players

Ah, ignore that fucker, he's one of the resident shitposters. He will not give you any useful answer.
As far as games go, you can try out musha shugyo, it was born to emulate arcade fighting games, it's pretty much made for 1v1, but you have to work anime powers into your moveset. There are expansions with rules for weapons and armor, but never got them.

Otherwise there's Fight! RPG or panic at the dojo.

The White Wolf Street Fighter game. It uses their storytelling system but has a more fleshed out combat system where positioning matters for one on one duels and systems for being a career fighter doing tournaments and stuff. Very cool.

Agreed, I don't see why people like the new plastic hh designs in general other than the fact they are cheaper in some regards. If they really needed, for whatever reason, to make marines bigger they should just have gone with the joytoy route and just made the old minis bigger with slightly better proportions. Like I have been saying since the release of 2.0 the things they are putting out now feel like knockoffs but by now they are literally too big to fail. If the 4.0 release box was just a box with a gun inside and a piece of paper with "rulebook - put gun to head and pull trigger" it would still be flying off the shelves.

My guess is the people who like the nu-designs are 40k tourists and GW paypigs, people with no objective standards. Thank 3d-printing and tortugabay, the best of both worlds, old designs in a bigger scale.
>>
>>97374308
I love the new mk2 and 6, the new mk3 is more in line with the old RT mk3 but I understand why a lot of people dislike it. The new terminator armor is pure dogshit and the breachers.

To all you whiners, are you contributing? Are you organizing narrative games, and building terrain?
It seems most of you just want your LGC to magically have good terrain and events.

This requires effort from a real person, and if no one is doing this, but you really would like it to happen, be that person.

All it takes is one person putting in minimal amount of effort to craft some terrain or host some simple narrative games and you will soon see others follow.

Your terrain doesn't have to be the highest quality. Get some of the terrain pdfs and watch some youtube videos, then make some small houses, hills and woods.
I can speak from experience that once you bring it with you and put it on the table, others will notice and get motivated to make their own.

One person becomes two, then three. All of a sudden, everyone wants to join your campaign and is showing off their latest terrain build.

0 All Default Ones
1 Risen Archmage - I'm going to spec heavily into undead crafting to make bone spaceships
1 Death of Fear
1 Cling to Death - 2 defensive abilities that ensure that my immortality is unmolested
2 Ancient Mind - notes say it's one of the two truly OP abilities that are on par with Primordials, infinite multitasking means being able to control all my undead myself, though I'll probably delegate somewhat
2 Usurper - don't need no charm person or telepathy when I can just kill a nigga and get everything he's got

0 Hall of the Dead. Location: North - Crown of the World - it's far away from humans that apparently used to have anti-god lasers at some point, gives me plenty of time to make some spaceships. I was thinking about flying fortress but I'm pretty confident we can just make our own
1 Panoply of the Charnel Kings - I considered Slayer to be able to kill gods but it's not necessary on a personal level because this one gives not only god-slaying weapons but also magic scrolls and lesser magic items, a good all-around option
1 The Ouroboros Gate - to send our spaceships to explore the multiverse
1 Serpent's Eye - to see where our spaceships are actually going plus to spy on humans in my free time

[Companions]
Slain Champion - I love power and hate responsibility so he's a great right hand guy
The Impaler - not that I need him but vampires are cool, I'll allow it. Plus I liked space vampires in Trinity Blood so they fit

To boldly go where no skelly has gone before!... And beyond!

Hey there

I've decided to start a West Marches-style campaign on my LGS. It sounds the perfect style to run for a public setting w/ rotating players, but I myself have never DMed one

Any experiences, tips and advices regarding DM-ing/playing West Marches style games?

Or general tips for running games on LGS ?

For those unfamiliar with West Marches style, here is what google have to say about it:
>Player-Driven Exploration: Players decide where to go and what to explore, venturing into unknown territory from a safe starting town.
>Rotating Cast: A large pool of players participates, but different combinations of adventurers form parties for each session, preventing the need for a single regular group.
>Sandbox World: The world is a sandbox, with the map and plot emerging as players discover new locations and rumors, rather than being dictated by the GM.
>No Fixed Schedule: Sessions occur when players organize themselves, often on a voluntary basis.
>Low GM Prep: The Game Master (GM) focuses on creating a world and potential encounters, responding to player choices, rather than crafting complex plots.
>Self-Contained Sessions: Adventures are often designed to be resolved in a single session, with storylines evolving over time.

Welp, good luck with convincing the management to let you keep it going, OP.
Still, maybe the other West March campaign is using another system, so it won't steal your participants, right?

OP here!

Played the test session today, only 3 players (Bob from >>97355904 was a no show)

My usual group is... something. They have about 0% focus, is very hard to explain anything to them, and I thought they were familiar with 5e but turns out only 1 player was (even then, there were several mix-ups/hold-ups with character creation)

With that being said, I think a future session with those players would be ~50% more productive

Nevertheless, the session turns out pretty well. Identified some minor flaws, but overall travel made sense, they discovered interesting things, they kind of easily completed a quest/rumor, then afterwards just exploring on their own:
>Decided to follow a quest to find the missing doctor around the coast
>Found him only 1 hex away
>Nevertheless, had to fight 4 murlocs (pic related) to get to him
>Actually, the chance the guy was there where the murlocs were was only 1/6
>After making that small-chance roll, I mentioned it to the players, and opened to the discussion the likelihood (in %) of the doctor even being alive
>We settled, being optimistic, at 25% of being alive

I'm glad you're having fun with your game but this is absolutely nothing like a West Marches, you might want to consider relabeling it especially if there's another WM game that's going to be ongoing in your FLGS.

>absolutely nothing like a West Marches
Well, considering that Google's definition (made up of whatever the internet consensus is) has 6 definitions:

>1. Exploration Focus: A sandbox world with uncharted areas that players map and discover as they venture out.
>2. Persistent, Shared World: Actions by one group affect the world for others, creating a dynamic, evolving environment.
>3. Hub & Spoke Model: Adventures start and end in a safe, central location (like a town or guild), with characters returning there between sessions.
>4. Episodic/Serialized: Sessions are often self-contained adventures (like one-shots) that build upon each other, making it great for new GMs.

All of these (4 out of 6) definitions are un-arguably part of what we are doing
>5. Player-Driven Scheduling: Players organize sessions among themselves and the GM based on availability, rather than a fixed weekly time.
>6. Large, Fluid Player Pool: Accommodates many players (even 50+) by having different groups play at different times, all part of the same world.
Out of these, item 5 is also valid because A) this core group as 3~5 players that maybe be present at a given day, and B) we often do guests that may play a session here and there. And 6 because I'm planning to keep this the same world as the one from the LGS, so actions wouldn't be contained just between those few players (I wouldn't call WM if it was just the core group, to be a proper WM experience it should have at least 10+ players overall)

But please do enlighten me how a definition that matches 6 out of 6 criteria is "nothing like it"

I don't disagree with this, Twitter and Youtube have just encouraged monetizing it. With 9gag and Reddit the worst you had to worry about was internet points and just flat out claiming your ideas were theirs.
And the fundamental problem is the kind of thread this sort of monetization encourages. Like the pattern on Twitter is
>4chan OP with a question
>the thread got a lot of replies, so it must get a lot of replies on twitter too
And again these accounts are monetized, so you have an endless churn of
>ELF GF WHAT DO
>WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF ELF GF

After playing both the original Shandalar and the 2016 update version I've come to the conclusion that magic was just more fun in 1995 when it was more loose and relaxed. The kinds of decks you go up against in the 2016 version are so much more ruthless about shutting down every play you make that the only way to compete is to be an even more obnoxious dickhead and make sure they never get a chance to do anything. Every victory was bitter and spiteful in a way that I never felt with the older simpler Magic cards.

The main thing I remember about Shandalar was wandering from town to town searching for cards to improve my deck, avoiding powerful enemies and pouncing on weaker. So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.

It's actually the one reason why, despite having a lot of fantasy miniatures in general (both GW and others) I don't actually like using them in RPG's. Any markers or grid maps or the like, really. In my experience it flips players straight into 'wargame mode' and they move and fight accordingly. Ends up quite dull.
