So that was what you meant by 'high-caliber' boots. Gotta say, you wear yourself better than the rest of the wannabe blood mages I've met in my time.

It was good.

Enjoy the knife, one of my better antler pieces. And don't let anything Mèo-Mèo said get under your skin. She stares at the sky like that and mutters ominous portents of doom only... Semi Regularly? Ever since I got her out of Marquette she's been doing better but the seer curse is still pretty strong in her.

>One of the human dolls had her first period and got scared, I called the ghoul nurse.
Context: children victims of supernatural agents and forces are cared for in the Dollhouse until they reach puberty. Then they continue their rehabilitation while helping as trainee mansion staff members.
>We'll talk which puppet plays to pick for her graduation ceremony later, I just wanna call dibs on an evil queen role.
Nope! We're performing our adaptation of Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio - and you know why.

Voice actors:
Assoluta as Pinocchio
Blue Fairy as herself
The Devil Wears Me as Geppetto
Mercury Lamp as The Talking Cricket
Venus in Furs as Ms. Mangiafuoco, Ms. Coachwoman and Ms. Ringmistress
Man of Florida as The Cat
Princess Charming as The Fox
Scarlet as The Terrible Dogfish

There are a lot of examples of knights being implemented into a sci-fi future setting (Warhammer 40k, Battletech, Dune), but are there any examples of medieval societies with modern-esque professional soldiers?

>joining the Roman legions ceased to be profitable
Hadrian managed to square this circle (as did Antonius Pious, if I recall correctly) but he was one of the few emperors who wasn't insanely stupid and corrupt, and actually used tax money for public works.
>>
>>97339216
>medieval societies with modern-esque professional soldiers?
You can't really do both. Medieval society is distinct from modern society largely because of the way the state administers violence.
The era you're looking for is Imperial Rome.
>>
>>97339417
>in ancient times soldiers would often be forced to pay for it themselves. In a feudal society, your lord pays
The other way around. In late antiquity, professional standing armies did exist with state issued arms. In feudal (medieval) societies, combatants were generally expected to provide their own equipment and training (except things like munitions and other consumables).

The Mk4 lore isn't even that bad, what little there is of it. The main Mk4 rulebook is pretty anemic on lore compared to previous corebooks and there's next to zero character driven narrative posted anywhere outside of small story blurbs on their blog.

It sucks because they actually DID make a pretty great character agnostic setting with good worldbuilding with Warcaster, which got an entire hardcover book just for lore.

Mk4 Warmachine so far is:
>it's 7-ish years after the battle of Henge Hold
>Everyone has advanced in technology, Cygnar is much more tolerant of Cyriss and other religious minorities, which leads to even greater advancements in tech and magic
>The Orgoth suddenly return, having learned their lesson and made their own warjacks and blackpowder weapons. They take a big portion of Khador's coastline, a bit of Ord and an island from Cygnar
>Everyone rushes to defeat them, Cryx included

That's it. That's all that has happened in the 2-3 years since they relaunched Mk4. There aren't any boots on the ground perspectives or any character stories, it's just a wikipedia entry for the most part.

>>97332398
They DO still exist, but the original Protectorate is a shell of itself. Instead, the good guys from the faction left with Tristan (an actual lawful good paladin) to Zu, and are likely to return.
>>
>>97343812
They have kept releasing armies, but Mk4 armies are small. Like theme forces back in the day, but not optional and you can't use models between them even if they're both Cygnar, for example.

The problem is that they had to have their arms twisted to release Cryx at all, and other core factions like Menoth are only now going to get their first armies this Summer where Trollkin, Khador and Cygnar are already up to 2 separate forces.
>>
>>97344010
No, the kickstarters for Warcaster did quite well but PP was severely in the red even then, those kickstarters were all that kept the company going for several years until they flubbed the Mk4 relaunch and officially ran out of funding.
>>
>>97343812

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.

Most of the heavy lifting has already been done, and SJG aren't interested. They insist that it has to be edited by their editor and laid out by their layout people and turn a profit (not unreasonable, I suppose) and they didn't think those would really be possible.

oWoD had the back cover of the Tzimesce book and a Wraith splatbook about the Holocaust.

I feel like just making an unrelentingly bleak world isn't really truly dark because everyone knows better than to emotionally invest. The writers will be more edgy to compensate but quickly run into that wall of coming across as slapstick humor - eg any of the kills from the Terrifier movies.

>>97343436

The Lamentations art promises a historical horror game set in the pike and shot/wars of religion era and then you crack it open and it's another AD&D retroclone with elves, dwarves, armor etc. Just totally baffling to me.

It was Black Noir. Who in the comic is a clone of Homelander. Meant as a failsafe but way more insane than Homelander was.

Fair enough. I could also see an Exalt with no personal interest in rulership sticking with his mortal kin, maybe his own descendants, or with the descendants of some long-dead friend, and offering them his counsel and support.

Because in practice it's always joined to some petty smear against whatever exalt type.
>>
>>97344172
No, it's not. That's not true for the canon example of Scarlet Whisper serving the Perfect of Paragon, nor for the other canon example of the Guild employing Dragon-Blooded mercenaries, nor for Dragon-Blooded mercenaries in general, nor for any less canon, table-specific takes on the idea.

>>
>>97344226
Alright, fine, I'll admit that saying that it's not truer for any table ever was an exaggeration. Since claiming that it's "always joined to some petty smear against whatever exalt type" was even more of an exaggeration, though, I don't think you should complain.

Lets talk about what makes a player or GM truly great? Is it how a player makes their character, roleplay at the table, a GM who is very descriptive, etc.
Or we can share stories about really good players or GMs we met at our own tables.

>>
>>97337743
Worst is I don't think they were always like that. It's as if something shut off in all of them as we moved from one arc to the next. It's perplexing, because they are the group with the best attendance record I have ever had. Yet their passivity was enough to make a friend of mine who joined on bow out, since there's only so much a single person can do to ensure the entire party isn't gawking (metaphorically) at the GM silently for a solid minute when an NPC is speaking with them, or being presented with a situation that doesn't have an obvious thing to punch.

>Possesses critical thinking skills and a basic level understanding on how things work in reality (they don’t need to know the fictional stuff, that can come later, but you should know things like “water flows downwards”, “smoke will fill a room if there is no opening for it to escape”, etc.)
>Has curiosity and asks questions about the things they encounter in the game. I swear there’s little worse as a GM than to present something, and just be met with dumb silence
>Sucks for autistic people but it really helps if you’re able to read the tone of conversations, the situation, as well as the room of players itself

I'm not a fan of it. When I played, every deck basically did the same thing. According to people who have been playing a long time, the game used to be much more varied but it seems like Bushiroad can't design and sustain a card game to save their life.

I really liked Buddyfight a lot but towards the end of its life the powercreep was insane.
