I was about to download the latest update and I noticed that you've added stuff for Soul-tethering, which made me wonder...

Some of these creatures used to belong to player facing races, have you considered supporting the player transforming into one of them, like someone becoming a Succubus or a Vampire or such.

All it would really take is having XP costs for the relevant traits and feats, and maybe a framework to better come up with the rituals to do it (which would be useful to have as player objectives even if playing the monster itself were to fall beyond the scope of the game).

In that vein, are there any plans to support controlled transformations on the part of the player? One idea I had for a character was a creepy mega-nerd alchemist (or mage who knows alchemy) in a journey to become a THE Tentacle Monster and I've found the lack of recipes for mutagens pretty disappointing.
>>

It is, and I didn’t

>have you considered supporting the player transforming into one of them
No but the succubus has her own Corruption table. Other than that, that's more for homebrew especially considering how succubi and incubi work in Labyrinthus
>All it would really take is having XP costs for the relevant traits and feats, and maybe a framework
That's a lot of work, balance-wise, especially if you read the succubi and vampire Traits
>maybe a framework to better come up with the rituals to do it
The framework is Oracles+Imagination. You don't always need the game to tell you what to do, just get the idea and go
>a journey to become a THE Tentacle Monster
There are many ways to mutate, mostly through corruption. Mutagens are left vague so you can come up with something. Or make a homebrew.
Most of the stuff I add is often something suggested which is simple, but if it's complex either it requires me to put effort OR to use homebrews as inspiration and currently I'm focusing on testing and making sketches. if you want to can post your ideas in the discord so you can also test them and have other test them too
>I was about to download the latest update
I hope you still had downloaded the update

It is what it is. I was sorta achievement hunting at that point, the character had become pretty strong (being a vampire is actually pretty great, at the potential risk of a death spiral if you ever get captured/defeated) and I had just arrived at the Fae Forest to learn a ton of magic, since the free massive Magic you get as a vampire had been pretty underused so far.

>>97279597
Going off of memory here, when she visited the city her first sewer mission (the homebrew one) went about as poorly as it could've gone without her straight up getting defeated. She had to escort a city official down to a blockage and on the way she almost got defeated by like... three slimes. Because she relied mostly on blocking and so the acid + slimed debuffs were stacking up on account of poor rolls. If she didn't have the clean spell she might've lost there, which would've been insanely embarrassing as she already killed an Orc Boss in his stronghold at that point. Then she encounters a pair of sewer crocs at the mission's objective which messed her up, shredded her armor into nothing and by the end she was at half health. This was all made much worse since I ruled early on that if a vampire feeds while escorting an NPC, they gain +5 Vigilance reduced by 1 per success on persuasion, so I was trying to avoid drinking meaning no healing for free after combat. The problem compounded when she ended up saving a kidnapped girl on the way back. By the end she got like +6 vigilance from the two NPCs seeing her feed and was butt naked.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. Anything published after, say, 2002, is fanfiction as far as I'm concerned. There are no female Custodes, the Primarchs are never coming back, Primaris Marines don't exist, Cadia did not blow up, the Cicatrix Maledictum isn't real, and so on. I don't care if you're employed by Games Workshop to write material about 40K, anything you or anyone else says is meaningless to me. I consider 40K to be an eternally static setting with a deliberately unrevealed future - anything that progresses the stories is anathema to that and I will ignore it.

I wanted to see what cool maps people had! Bonus points for castles and high res maps, as i love the idea of running some kind of castle seige as those are my favorite maps from Fire Emblem

I agree, it adds a lot of work with organizing and very easily bogs the game down into a awkward miniature game where people start thinking way too much.
That said sometimes you really need to know where characters are, but you should ask yourself if you need anything more than a sketch on graph paper and if its worth the effort to prepare an actual map.
>>
>>97263348
This is cool, basic but logical and matches terrain.
>>
>>97262980
If you're on a VTT, you can conceal parts of the map or even set up dynamic lighting so illumination levels and line of sight are live.
If you're playing in-person at a table, then you're using terrain and minis and all kinds of things anyway. So even if you somehow don't understand how to use photoshop (it's fucking 2026, dude... not knowing how to do basic image manipulation is like not knowing how to drive...), you can still place a bush or a token or something where you need it to be.
You're being a fucking lazy dumbass. No, you are not superior for being a lazy dumbass. "Theater of the mind" is not carte blanche to just not do any fucking work. If you don't wanna be a GM, don't sign up to be a GM. Just be a player like all the rest of the worthless, lazy parasites.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

One of my players found a treasure map. I'm looking for a fun, if shorter, module appropriate for levels 3-6 or so. They're currently going through Stonehell, but I figured the treasure map may be good cause for them to do a little overland travel and shake things up a bit.

Question:

Are there any good rules for professional wrestling-style combat maneuvers? I don't mean the 'Haha, I'm playing a quirky luchador character." I mean, any rules which would allow a fighter to break a hobgoblin's spine over his knee, body slam an orc, or twist a gnome's head and break his neck. I'm familiar with the OA martial arts rules, but there has to be something more explicit/specific. I'm planning on implementing this both ways. Why shouldn't a ogre be able to curbstomp the prone halfling? I want to maximize the violence in my game. Thanks in advance!

Depending on how gonzo you want to get Misty Isle of the Eld is in that range.
Halls of the Blood King is 3-5 and a not quite cooked vampire mansion. Needs a bit of work imo but good base.
Forest of Gornat is a good side area to add in if you want more meat but might be more than you're looking for.

I'm going to explain this without talking about the elephant in the room that is their field spell
>Every single one of their monsters searches oneanother by their pendulum effect, and they have built-in methods to get their scales off of the field to ensure that you basically fill up your entire field
>Applies lingering effects IMMEDIATELY after they are flipped that either burn your opponent or protects your cards, which is something that some people seem to overlook
>One of the above lingering effects (Asta.PIXEA) is a floodgate that prevents your opponent from targeting anything on the field or GYs. For some reason, people overlook the fact that this also prevents them from targeting their own cards. For some reason, it also has a handrip effect when it's flipped by its own effect too.
>Half of their monsters have a statline of 3000:2500

So, it's a Beatdown/Stun/Control/Burn deck where the only way to reliably out them is non-targeting, non-destructive effects.

>uhh... DURRRRR..... but your opponent needs to activate effects in specific locations before you can flip your monsters!!!
I've also seen retards say this as though empty jar wasn't a thing in 2005 and its entire strategy didn't revolve around flipping a flip monster, and that we didn't get more cards that flip flip monsters since then.
>>
>>97278088
>Jokul
It says "both" when summoning the monsters so both targets need to be in hand at resolution to work.
>Mirrorjade
Any monster effect that happens when it leaves the field/is destroyed/whatever can activate in its new zone (except banished facedown/returned to deck) as well as reference the state it was in on the field (in the case of Mirrorjade: fusion summoned + under its owner's control + removed by opponent's card). A negated monster on the field is only negated in the GY on resolution if the effect itself activated on the field while the monster was negated and the negation didn't specify the monster must remain on the field to stay negated.
>>
>>97278088
>other ruling question is does Dark Ruler No More prevent Mirrorjade's leave the battlefield effect?
No. It's easier to understand when you conceptualize cards as separate instances when they activate their effects in different locations, rather than the same card which had effects applied to them in other locations. The instance of Mirrorjade that was on the field had its effects negated by the effects of Dark Ruler No More. The effects of Mirrorjade in the GY or banishment did not.

Of note; If you return Mirrorjade to the Extra Deck, its effect doesn't trigger. Same applies if Mirrorjade is banished face-down, because they are face-down.

MtG didn't use to be this way until EDH became the most popular format. When playing MtG casually meant taking a Standard deck to your weekly FNM, proxies were not allowed as it was a sanctioned tournament. Since EDH is a casual format, people never really gave a shit and that sentiment remained, fortunately. The price of MtG singles since the advent of Commander has increased dramatically, where even your average casual deck non-proxied will run you fro. $250-$500, unless you're explicitly playing a budget build. I unironically switched to playing YGO as my primary card game as it is far more affordable these days.

Im out of my depth here

TL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence.

-

I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era.

Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them.

I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body.

-

So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?

For inspiration find the old Thundar the Barbarian cartoon. It's got to be online someplace. RPG wise the games are Gamma World, Darwin's World, Mutant Crawl Chronicles, and Palladium Game's Rifts. If you want an interesting Post=Apoc setting there's The Morrow Project. FGU's Aftermath is a good one but I never really liked the game mechanics. (too complicaed). In a pinch shadowrun will work with no tech.

Dude, how fucking poor and greedy was your paladin? Cause only the most pathetic losers do that shit irl, much less in a game. I'd imagine even in fantasy land, the amount they'd scoop up doing that probably wouldn't even get them a night at an inn.

>get them a night at an inn.

Pretty sure clerics and paladins can stay at temples for free, and can exchange services for a free stay at an inn.

But the second involves being creative and role-playing

Would be cool though I think he means more so in the style of Resi's horror of a city going to shit so irreparably that it becomes more or less a spark to form a government-backed hunting group like Task Force Valkyrie and if anyone's tried making a document or a story like that. Could be interesting, but it very boldly flies in the face of VtM's books and if we go further V5's SI stopping something like that from happening in the first place. Could be done, but you'd be flying mostly blind and is more at home in CofD than WoD. A Resi-styled video game on the other hand? Could be cool, if Paradox wasn't filled by a bunch of queers.

Yeah but that's a much bigger investment than they are willing to deal with apparently.

Yep, I think bloodlines two does play with the idea with the massive horde of unbirth being released at the end but not really been attempted as a way to frame a story as a entire city deal with it.

>They thought 50 million was a surprisingly large investment for an RPG (btw)
>They didn't even vet the studios they hired on the cheap to make their "roleplaying game"
>They own an IP rich with political bullshit and don't bother making a map painter
Paradox is a paradox of sorts, they buy an IP for the cult-classic potential and yet failed at every metric to follow up on that potential they spent multiple millions on already. Not Paradox's first multiple tens of millions lost on retarded projects though.

I see where you're going with that, and it could be cool assuming they don't all get torched by the SI in secret. The more obvious answer is that not one writer thought that far ahead, but I imagine a standalone sequel that's more of a resident evil styled RPG could be good. The cursed knowledge that Paradox will never hire anyone competent makes me not dare to dream though.
