Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.>First up: what the fuck is Hellpiercers? And why do you spell it in all-caps? Do you have autism?HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?
>>97241022And file's done. Hope anyone who wanted it got it.
>>97235661More fiddly than I want to deal with but interested in the lock system, how's the operate?
>>97239791You try reporting it? If n then do. If y and its still here then what?>>97241768Shit looks like I missed that. Anyone send it to the NV?
>>97241802Thousand Year Reign Shattering Blade is the most modal (and therefor fiddly) weapon in the game. In practice, most unlockable weapons have less-varied effects. The blade is supposed to be old reliable, so it works with everything. As for the lock system, every option costs resources, which you get from achieving objectives in STRATCOM and TACCOM.
>>97241953Upgrades work on a tech tree, and each one unlocks either new options or whole new subsystems. This is just a few of them. The game starts at a relatively-low rules intensity, and increases rapidly the more shit you unlock. The unlocks are always at the table's discretion, so you never have to get anything new until and unless you're comfortable with what you already have.

>>97241826Thats okay for still like moss in creases but for the big lumpy carpeting stuff its too flat. Its almost treating it like verdigris and thats why thats the least recommended of the 3 Dirty Down products. This is a shit example but only photo on hand but you can dye Valhallan blizzard all kinds of colours and get some good effects for chunky moss growths.
>>97241549>not many people are going to buy 2000pts of models upfrontWell no shit. Spearhead is all fine and dandy as an intro army, but the main idea of it should be to get someone to collect a full army.
>>97241636I got it for the unique models that GW isn't going to sell separately for some retarded reason. And I'm just a simp for classic undead.
>>97241675When I look at 4th and see the crazy lack of spells and few, if any, ways to customize your army, it just looks barren and boring.
>>97241898The main idea was to replace warcry with something that would sell more paints.
What kind of fantasy monsters are you into? I like original abominations, standard humanoids/mythological creatures/giant animals are boring to me.
One concept that I really like is the "your brain can't fathom what is in front of you so what you see is just an approximation that still doesn't do justice to the real thing" or "the being is from a higher dimension so the representation in this one while terrible is just very simplistic so our brains are able to see it"
>>97241726Yeah, it's the idea that a higher-dimensional being would cast a shadow in our dimesion, like we cast a flat shadow in 2D, so what we'd see of the being in our world is just its shadow.
>>97241726Cool in theory, usually jist an excuse for the big monster to look like a tentacle goreblob or a spooky skull inkblot.
>>97228517Either originals or new takes on more obscure abominations. Like the Bonesnapper, reimagined as a brutish Indian coded hunter culture a la Predator or Bone Tomahawk. Or say Killer Kudzu (my creation), basically the stuff that’s taking over the American South, but alllll the folklore surrounding the plant is true. >>97236481Very underrated creature type these days.
>>97240794Well I haven't done this very often so I don't know how useful my advice would be. But the way I approached it is very rooted in the specific context its made for. Tangleberries are meant to show up alongside the golem staff of the estate, now overgrown and corrupted by similar plants to the Tangleberries, so the dynamic of a fight with them would be intended to just be some otherwise relatively weak fighters with Tangleberries serving more as a big complicating issue. I had them made out of vines to make it more evident what its gimmick is. I don't think its the most radically original thing in the world, but its reflective of its context and hopefully does what it needs to do. I also think people are should be more willing to use vibrant colors for monsters, bright colors are also a sign of danger in the animal world, darkness has its place but its harder to make look distinct in my view. The best advice I can suggest is that nothing exists in a vacuum, and its a lot easier to create when you don't try to do it in an abstract, 'out-of-context' sort of way. Also, I think that a lot of D&D monsters could be cooler concepts if their names weren't terrible. A good name is important for conveying the grandeur and mystique of a proper fantasy creature, I think displacer beasts are actually really cool monsters cursed with a terrible name for example.

>>97241592If people want to win a game the first time they play it maybe they should try reading the rules themselves.Ive played with enough people to know being reasonable is a pipe dream though lol>merry christmas , heres a game I bought a month ago, idk if you like it and now you can learn the rules and teach it to me todayWhat an awesome ex wife
>>97241637Huh, I remembered the concept as way less interesting. Still not particularly interested in trying it, but for some reason I've not explored Friese designs in all my hobby time. Yes not even powergrid or fresh fish
>>97241592I see. Yeah that should very much be the approach. Sure, you can play it slightly more competitive whilst someone else just pushes levers to see what happens, but 10 minute minmax turns is nothing I want to see in our first game.
>>97241638I've always thought this was only a thing on the fringes of boardgaming; akin to a campfire horror story. But recently, others have begun to purchase more games and shit keeps happening>Anon before we set it up, do you know the rules?>Yeah I do, gotta have to look up some minutae but I'm good>Set it up, after 3 minutes of suttering we find out he doesn't know what half the actions do>End up watching a 30 minute rules videoThe boldness of bringing your game and not even knowing the fucking rules gets me. It shouldn't annoy me as much as it does; if he had known the rules by heart we'd have saved like 10 minutes. But it still feels like disrespecting other peoples time.
>>97241904If only it was the fringes, but I think some of the anons in here do sound like they have good groups and I'm happy for them. I just know that in my current city for instance, there are certain people constantly jumping into 'i want to play d&d' things that pop up on social media who I know are fucking terrible people and its like... you're a single mom to three kids from different dads, you're in a part time remote program at school to get free student loans when you get forgiveness, you're at home all day, learn fucking d&d yourself and stop trying to bum into games for the last 2 yearsI'm so exhausted by life that I just can't be bothered to drive a half hour after work to the board game cafe, hope to god the randos have basic social skills (most dont), realize i have had no fun for those 2 hours, drive a half hour home, go to bed

Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. Thread #02 Lean Winter on the TundraPrevious Thread: >>97090196Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.>Spoiler any OOC discussion.Happy hunting. Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

>>97241783Very cool.>>97241820Interesting. I do figure you would still need a mentor I guess but Kindred are only beholden to the Tremere because they want to be and they need to use their edgy blood magic.
>>97241721>NTA but I like some of the stuff they did with the Coalition.I won't post my full anti-SI screed because it's Christmas, but they're actually my least favorite thing in V5. On its own, I would agree that humans should be genuine threats in a VtM game. Problem is I can't stand how they did it with the SI. They homogenized everyone, have crazy plot armor, fetishize the intelligence community (which is nowhere near that competent), and just make the vampires look retarded. I'm a vigilfah through and through, that game does threatening hunter groups right. SI is a tour de force in how to do them wrong.I would also disagree with "WoD is a ridiculous sci fi setting with vampires taped on" because I don't like most of oWoD outside of vampire so that doesn't apply to my table. I'm fine with reasonable hypertech like what TF:V has, the SI takes it into dumbass territory.
>>97241819DAMNED AUTUMN PEOPLE!!!!
>>97241832There's a few Blood Sorcery paths outside of the Tremere's but most of them are from Dark Ages, so using them in Modern Nights (Or other eras after DA) would need your Kindred to learn it from somewhere. Lasombra just have it easy in that regard.
>>97241868Don't let the Tremere know, they're contentious people.

Interesting, especially for short campaigns and one shots but not strictly better.>crusaderThis one is pretty close, wil doesn't provide a huge mechanical benifit to the crusader but neither can he fully take advantage of having high dex to the same extent as the explorer or thief. >Setting Basically late medieval to early Renaissance Europe >Magic Not really available to players, expect in the form of extremely rare high level magical weapons and items. BBEG should possess magic abilities >Player characters European presenting male fighters only, maximum one low level hedge wizard or shaman>Races All NPCs and PC should be human, finding a non-human village like elves should be extremely rare, unlikely, and magical experience
This is such a common set of "tasteful" opinions espoused here, are they all just nogames, and if not, why aren't arthurian/historical games more popular?
>>97222512no blacks, Indians, Tieflings or "that guy" player, low magic setting I'm not talking about Wizards being ultra rare literally not every damn class & their mother need spells there is only Humans, Gnomes, Dwarf, High Elf, Dark Elf for player Characters & classic Monster races are that *monsters* such as Orcs, Goblins & kobolds they will never be player races. for classes there will only be Cleric, Paladin, Fighter, Barbarian, Wizard, Sorcerer & Warlock(not the D&D shit kind) & Troubadour.
>>97241397Real answer: because d&d, which has it's own specific flavor of gonzo-ish fantasy, is the default game and when branching out people feel generally more comfortable in switching genre completely (going for scifi, modern, horror, etc..) so historicist fantasy games are mostly left out.
>>97241704you know that's a fair point, you see plenty of stuff outside fantasy, but fantasy is almost always dnd kitchen sink. I've tried to run slightly different fantasy games, but 90% of players will still play as if standard dnd fantasy tropes are the case so it's very hard to wrangle them off it. The solution I've found to get people out of that head space is to mandate from the GM chair what kind of characters everyone is playing, if you say "alright, everyone is playing an elf of this type" it's much easier for them to accept and learn the elf culture of your particular game and they're ready to accept the tone you have on offer, where's if you say "ok make whatever you like" they're going to come into it with DND standard brain no matter what you throw at them.
>>97241764why do you want to change their preferences? how do you know you're not the one who needs to change?
