Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.

HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.

I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?

Thousand Year Reign Shattering Blade is the most modal (and therefor fiddly) weapon in the game. In practice, most unlockable weapons have less-varied effects. The blade is supposed to be old reliable, so it works with everything.

As for the lock system, every option costs resources, which you get from achieving objectives in STRATCOM and TACCOM.

Upgrades work on a tech tree, and each one unlocks either new options or whole new subsystems. This is just a few of them. The game starts at a relatively-low rules intensity, and increases rapidly the more shit you unlock. The unlocks are always at the table's discretion, so you never have to get anything new until and unless you're comfortable with what you already have.

Well I haven't done this very often so I don't know how useful my advice would be. But the way I approached it is very rooted in the specific context its made for. Tangleberries are meant to show up alongside the golem staff of the estate, now overgrown and corrupted by similar plants to the Tangleberries, so the dynamic of a fight with them would be intended to just be some otherwise relatively weak fighters with Tangleberries serving more as a big complicating issue. I had them made out of vines to make it more evident what its gimmick is. I don't think its the most radically original thing in the world, but its reflective of its context and hopefully does what it needs to do. I also think people are should be more willing to use vibrant colors for monsters, bright colors are also a sign of danger in the animal world, darkness has its place but its harder to make look distinct in my view. The best advice I can suggest is that nothing exists in a vacuum, and its a lot easier to create when you don't try to do it in an abstract, 'out-of-context' sort of way. Also, I think that a lot of D&D monsters could be cooler concepts if their names weren't terrible. A good name is important for conveying the grandeur and mystique of a proper fantasy creature, I think displacer beasts are actually really cool monsters cursed with a terrible name for example.

I won't post my full anti-SI screed because it's Christmas, but they're actually my least favorite thing in V5.

On its own, I would agree that humans should be genuine threats in a VtM game. Problem is I can't stand how they did it with the SI. They homogenized everyone, have crazy plot armor, fetishize the intelligence community (which is nowhere near that competent), and just make the vampires look retarded. I'm a vigilfah through and through, that game does threatening hunter groups right. SI is a tour de force in how to do them wrong.

I would also disagree with "WoD is a ridiculous sci fi setting with vampires taped on" because I don't like most of oWoD outside of vampire so that doesn't apply to my table. I'm fine with reasonable hypertech like what TF:V has, the SI takes it into dumbass territory.

Str give bonus to atrack throw and damage, great for maximising cleaves at all levels. High dex fighter would have advantages I wouldn't call it strickly better.

The explorer excels as a ranged combatant and with ambush tactics which higher attack throw on ranged weapons and improvement initiative throw let one take greater advantage of.

As with fighter there are advantages to the high dex mage, specifically being more likely to get your spell off earlier from the initiative bonus, it would come at the great cost of smaller spell repertoire and lower magical research throws. Interesting, especially for short campaigns and one shots but not strictly better.

This one is pretty close, wil doesn't provide a huge mechanical benifit to the crusader but neither can he fully take advantage of having high dex to the same extent as the explorer or thief. Harder to hit is good him as a front liner but (and this is a personal preference) I'd still rather have higher will.

I've tried to run slightly different fantasy games, but 90% of players will still play as if standard dnd fantasy tropes are the case so it's very hard to wrangle them off it. The solution I've found to get people out of that head space is to mandate from the GM chair what kind of characters everyone is playing, if you say "alright, everyone is playing an elf of this type" it's much easier for them to accept and learn the elf culture of your particular game and they're ready to accept the tone you have on offer, where's if you say "ok make whatever you like" they're going to come into it with DND standard brain no matter what you throw at them.
