>gameplay
For Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.
>fantasy settings
They're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions.
>loadouts for fantasy
If you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

>Centaurs aren't as good as mounted men
>Men have more flexibility, their legs and upper bodies can lean and bend and change. Having the "Rider" be attatched to the horse by a spine actually does signifigantly worse their fighting ability
Rule of cool. Having a centaur raging on the battlefield sounds like fun to me.
>Also, horses are aerodynamic, putting a person there makes them slower
They'd still outpace a human. At least in fantasy contexts. Once steam/combustion engines show up, that speed advantage dries up in certain situations.
>I personally don't like centaurs in fantasy, because they feel unnatural. They show signs of deliberate genetic meddling and it bothers me to see things without an explanation like that
Fair point. I've yet to get a good explanation for how they might have come about in any fantasy context other than, "Some god wanted a laugh, so he blended a horse and a dude together."
In a si-fi/non-fantastical context, it's even worse. Outside of weird cyborgs/advanced genetic engineering, there's not really a place for them. On the other hand, I like centaurs and HORSE PUSSY, so suck it.
>>
>>97276510
>You can give them a chainmail or gambeson skirt for sure
Even just a thick cloth skirt can provide some protection. Or do one of those ring armour type things, where it's cloth or leather with very large metal rings sown into it. Good for giving the armour some slash resistance, which is probably the more common form of attack against a centaur's legs anyway.
>You mean if they're ranged focused? I think they could do well in melee with the right weapons.
If you have a highly mobile body, best to use it. Especially when you can get that body to do exactly what you want, rather than holding on and hoping it'll go exactly where you want it to go. Of course you don't have to be exclusively ranged, it all depends on the terrain as well.

I've sometimes dabbled with the idea of a racial dissatisfaction with magitech centaurs, similar to those types in old movies who were desperate to "do their bit" or, more bluntly, "get out in the shit". The nation's founding mythology and regimental histories are festooned with mentions of your forebears quite literally riding over the hill to save the kingdom, and now you're reduced to garrison and security patrols at best because these days you're just a big silhouette.

Just use a d6 "yes/no" oracle thing along with standard rules. It's hardcore enough as it is because of how lethal it is. I'm going to look into making the rules more "heroic" down the line (there's apparently a Sword and Sorcery homebrew that makes singular characters more powerful/less squishy... just haven't used it yet). Still want to play Scarlet Heroes as well.

Are there any good explanations for druids and equipment merging when using wild shape, or more precisely, what counts as equipment in 5e24?

Let's say a druid is handcuffed behind his back, would the handcuffs count as equipment?
What if a druid is bound by rope or chain from neck to toe, would the binding count as equipment? And if a druid were to shapeshift and merge this binding gear into his form, RAW it wouldn't affect him if it counted as equipment. What happens when the druid shifts back to normal form, does the merged equipment always come back as it was prior to merging, or does the druid have control over how merged equipment comes back?
>>
Instead of a campaign will have a oneshot next session, level 10, what potent class can I make? Potentially one of the element based or dead God related, enemy is earth element.
>>
>>97276990
>You choose whether your equipment falls in your space, merges into your new form, or is worn by it
Why would you ever choose for bindings to merge with the form? Have them fall to the ground when you wild shape into a rat and then just scamper away.

In no particular order...
The Doomed - Very simple, but solid ruleset. Pretty much Monster Hunter the tabletop game. Fun solo game but if you can get 3-4 friends involved its fantastic. The lore/setting is implied rather than set in stone and only there to give you kitbashing ideas
A Billion Suns - Criminally overlooked space combat game
A War Transformed - The better Trench Crusade
Forbidden Psalm - Mordheim for dummies, but don't let that put you off. Can be played in Coop or solo too
KillSampleProcess - As above but cyberpunk themed
Here's The Ruckus - Medieval, historically accurate-ish skirmish game. Very well balanced, unlike a lot of skirmish games
Zona Alfa - Stalker but tabletop. Plays well out straight out of the book, but its a good foundation for homebrewing

Mid-Colonial Island Adventure Setup & System Help
Hello fa/tg/uys and a happy new year. I'm planning a new campaign and would appreciate your collective wisdom. I'll lay out the pitch and would like your thoughts, ideas, and especially system recommendations.
The year is roughly equivalent to the early 1700s. The players are new arrivals or long-term residents of an island colony. Mere weeks after their arrival it becomes apparent that no ships from the homeland arrive. Ships sent out for help or trade simply vanish. The colony is now utterly isolated. Resources are finite, society is beginning to crack, and the unexplored interior holds ancient secrets.

>Resource Scarcity
No contact with the outside world. Every nail, bolt of cloth, and ounce of gunpowder is precious. Gold is the main currency, and it matters—for buying scarce supplies, hiring help, bribing officials or mayby hiring trainers if gold can be tied to character advancement.
>Low-to-Mid Magic
Magic is rare. Players won't be casting spells at the start. It's something discovered in the forest ruins or bargained for with strange spirits mid-campaign. Church sanctioned magic is the exception with high ranking members of the faith having access to considerable magical power.
>Healers for Hire
There are a few lowly priests of the faiths that can perform rudimentary healing rituals but demand some gold or favors. This type of healing and warding, especially against diseases, is used by the church to maintain power and influence. They're NPCs, not party members, at least initially and the most common source of magic.
>Zero to Hero
I would really like for the player to start really low powered. More akin to semi-skilled commoners than competent adventures and it should take time for them to actually become strong and capable. I would like for them to eventually become big players in the island. Maybe even hold titles or positions of power.

https://www.legendsofamerica.com/teihiihan-cannibals/

Yeah, they known as the Teihiihan, could be a scary dangerous encounter for the players to face
>>
>>97271773
If you want a Westmarch style 1700s game with rare magic then I would recommend two systems
>Old-School Essentials
A fan made expansion of pre-1e dnd. Has a big emphasis on sandbox play and factions. Early spell casters are weak, only knowing 1 spell. Explicitly tells you at what stage players should form their own settlements and have faction-level power
>ACKS
Same as the former, but much more autistic and granular
>>
Ok I am expanding on the idea a bit and bumping my thread.

>The Church of Unity
Official religion of the Empire. Actually the only religion in the empire. Their whole doctrine is that there is only one god and all other gods that were worshiped previously were either aspects of the one god and thus to be assimilated or demonic creatures from the outer dark to be destroyed. "Aspects" are still revered but not as gods on to themselves. The Church has successfully hoarded all magic knowledge in the empire and keeps it to themselves and locked in monasteries and libraries only to be used on imperial degree. Of course this isn't always the case.
>Apostates
Apostates are ex members of the church that gained magical knowledge but decided to leave the church behind in order to pursue their own goals or for other, mainly not dogmatic reasons. Officially they are not allowed to practice magic but rules are made to be bent. Sometimes even the Church procures their services.
>Heretics
Heretics are ex members of the church that gained magical knowledge and use it to spread heresies, false doctrines or to consort with demons. This individuals are hunted with extreme prejudice.

(1/2)
>>
>>97277072
Magic that comes outside the empire, like the one the natives use, is to be assimilated into the Church or to be destroyed.

This can create an interesting point of conflict for the Separatists since they will want access to magic but in order to gain it they would have to either get the Church(at least the ones on the island) on their side, hire Apostates willing to risk becoming heretics since working with the separatists could be seen in a very bad light, go straight for heretics and adopt another dogma or go to the natives in search of such knowledge.

Necromancy is considered the most vile of all magic since in requires a living sentient being corrupting the gift of life, the greatest gift the god of unity provides, for their own selfish purposes. Demons, technically not living beings, can't practice necromancy but they can corrupt mortals into doing so. Or so the Church claims. The Not-Aztecs are of course avid necromancy practitioners. All those bodies from the human sacrifices? Free menial labour and shock troops. They could play the de-facto "bad guys", raising dead and searching for more powerful and deprived knowledge in order to finally take the island for themselves.

>>97271790
ACKS seems interesting I should look into it. I was also looking into SotDL or Mythras. SotDL seems approachable but lacks XP progression that I believe is essential for a proper from zero to hero. I don't know much about Mythras but I like the classless approach.
>>
>>97277102
You probably want to skip ACKS. The autism and granularity is not on a healthy level, and you're going to end up wasting far more time just going through its "procedures" than you likely would even just making a whole brand new system out of wholecloth. The quality of the rules really leaves much to be desired, and it is all built around some odd assumptions regarding its "roman-esque" default setting, and most of the game seems inadvertently (and occasionally deliberately) designed to be as un-fun as it can be. I have no idea why anyone would recommend it beyond them never actually using it.

OSE serves as a solid foundation though, and is a much tighter and more more polished system. Sure, it doesn't do much beyond updating some now-ancient rules a little here and there, but it's generally inoffensive ruleswise and fairly accessible.

>SotDL
It's an odd one. Part of me really wanted to like it, but the "tone" of the game never really suited me and my group may have actually started to actively dislike it, because every so often it would get unnecessarily edgy. The real thing that got me though is how the Boons/Banes should work well in theory, but in practice the d6 is a little too unwieldy for the purpose. I feel like using d4's could have helped in regards to smoothing over some of the odd randomness, but you can't really build a system around constantly rolling d4s (because they don't roll).

That's dumb. Even if they don't want Palpatine running around the battlefield electrocuting people, we could still have had the Royal Guard. Yes, they spend most of the time guarding the emperor, but they're also supposed to be extremely well trained elite soldiers, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were sent by Palpatine on missions or to act as bodyguards for some important commander (as well as to keep an eye on him). In X-Wing you could get RG TIE Interceptor pilots, which seems more outside their normal line of work than taking part in a battle.

Multiple first timers for WOD two for TRPGs in general and multiple shadow GMs who knew a lot more whispering in our ears to egg us on

Is Scott Calvin becoming the new Santa after accepting the terms of the Santa Clause some kind of Fae tomfoolery?

That was an extremely entertaining read and an amazing way to start the first day of the year. Thank you very much, anon

>Is there a spell in Mage 2E that increases the damage of a weapon directly instead of just adding more dice to roll?
I thought more damage in CoD was just more dice. Did that change in 2E?

Based, sounds like a large group then.

If you could choose the set of core classes (in the PHB/core book and ideally the rest of the classes are designed around them) what would you choose?
They don't have to be identical to their current incarnations.

For me its,
>Ranger,
absorbs a lot of the fighter but keeps the independent survivalist schtick.
>Paladin,
Divine warrior with special abilities but no spells
>Rogue,
Sneaky stabby martial, basically as he is now
>Wizard,
>Druid,
>Cleric,
Default to being lightly armoured wandering friar tuck type character, but with options to put on some armour and bonk.

Is there an archetype that'll let me play a merchant that just relies on hirelings for combat?

I'd rule the weight bearing word is ANY in
>...the weapon's fundamental runes are replicated onto any melee weapon you wield...
to keep the costs as low as they need to be. Juicing one weapon and armor is enough of a gold sink already.
>Blazons https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=1221
>...the secondary weapon gains the benefit of the fundamental runes...
Gains the benefit, no rules contradicted.
>Spells
The spells are already fairly useless outside of level one. If anything, I'd buff them (maybe even combine them into one to cull the spell list) so that they're useful even for runed items.

Yes, Captain is what you're looking for. What to use as the base class for merchant is the hardest part I think.

How's my Runic Body fanfiction?

Range touch; Targets 1 willing creature
Duration until your next daily preparations
-
Glowing runes appear on the target's body. The target gains a +1 item bonus to AC and unarmed and weapon attack rolls. If the target gains similar benefits from armor runes, the target also gains temporary hit point equal to the spell's rank when their turn starts. If the target gains similar benefits from weapon runes, the target gains a damage bonus equal to the spell's rank the first time it deals damage each round.
-
Heightened (3rd) +1 item bonus to saves and increase the number of damage dice to two
Heightened (5th) +2 item bonus to AC and unarmed and weapon attacks
Heightened (7th) +2 item bonus to saves and increase the number of damage dice to three
Heightened (9th) +2 item bonus to AC and unarmed and weapon attacks
Heightened (10th) +3 item bonus to saves and increase the number of damage dice to four. Double the amount of tHP and additional damage.

For 1e I am thinking of making a homebrew witch archetype that hands out a buff to convert negative energy to healing for their allies.
What is the best way to limit this from being busted.
1) Less Healing?
2) Limiting the number of people that can benefit from it
3) A combination of the two?
4) Some other thing?

If we do I'm running a campaign in which they get wiped out once and for all.

Reads like an Age of Sigmar fag.
>Oh we got rid of all points for the game! Just bring whatever you like and have fun!
It was cancer there, it's cancer here.
Good thing I'm not letting the non-canon Kaiju into my Battletech.

>Everyone
• PLEASE BUMP THE THREAD IF IT REACHES PAGE 10!

>Requesters:
• Provide good, detailed references (pictures are better than verbal descriptions), so the artists know what you're looking for.
• If you have a WIP quote the Anchor Post, and attach the WIP so your Drawfag can find you.
• Do not reply to other deliveries with a request that the artist fill your request next. This is called 'piggybacking'.
• Do not make multiple requests in the same thread and do not serially request multiple characters after a delivery. Suggesting several concepts for artists to choose from counts as making multiple requests.
• If you're unsatisfied with your completed request, please wait at least one week before you re-request. If someone follows this rule, don't waste posts by complaining about it.
• Stay on topic.

>Drawfags and Drawfags-to-be:
• Drop your tumblrs/websites/commission/etc information, but if you're dropping your commission info, please consider filling a request beforehand instead of just advertising.
• Please keep AI deliveries to the /slop/ threads. This is a thread for human-made art.

May I please simply have a wholesome sfw piece between two throwaway OCs I had in a game session I participated in many years ago?

This is Dea; the brown tomboy gal and her high elf husband Estromo. Can I please have a picture of them preparing for their upcoming child/children? Dea is a couple months pregnant wearing a house dress and Estromo is reading a pregnancy or child care book. And they're both chillaxing in the room of their future children with a crib and baby toys visible in the background, if you can.
