Hopefully starting to DM for a group here soon.

Anyone have any suggestions for campaign/adventure books that are good and would save me some trouble with prep? I always read most official WotC shit is ass but I don’t know what third party stuff is better.
>>
>>97282227
Do you want a quick short thing to kick off a campaign or a whole 3rd party campaign to run for a long time
>>
>>97282245
I’d prefer whole campaigns, but also open to quick short things if they’re easy to add onto.

The Magistry of Canopus inherited one of the most advanced medical facilities of the old Star League and they use it for, among other things, copious amounts of cybernetic enhancements, often cosmetic. Their main export are also traveling space pleasure circuses so you can imagine the sorts of shenanigans they get up to.

As representatives of the Latin American fandom, it didn't bother us too much. That is to say, we were offended that the only explanation they gave us was "they were always there," but it didn't escalate as much as it seemed to for the English-speaking fandom, from our perspective.

>Train custodians
Was it not the case that each custodian was an individual masterpiece of genecraft personally and intimately engineered by the Emperor himself?
I was under the impression that they could not replicated by the modern imperium - due to the sheer complexity, artistry, and technological demand involved in their creation.
That was the key reason why they were remarkable. They're the same 10,000 soldiers have survived since the Great Crusade era, with negligible losses, because they're *just* *that* *good*.

This all falls apart when they are put on the table of course, which is why its so stupid that they're an playable army.

A thread for talking about players doing dumb shit and acting like retards.

>Be me
>Running short campaigns for new groups at the LGS
>Players are all tasked with defending some random hamlet in a backwater province from bandits that are planning to sack it and haul everyone off into slavery
>First group is (rightly) terrified of a fair fight
>Lures the bandits into an ambush by getting help from a neighboring village
>raid their camp after they retreat and destroy the group
>Second group tries brute force
>Roll up on the bandit camp directly and alone
>Talk their way into meeting with the leader when they rushed him
>Catch him offguard
>Are also playing optimized characters
>Slaughter him and his guards and convince half of the bandit group to work for them, rest scatter
>The third group

>>Tell players to read the book like 2 months in advance
>>Session starts and I ask if everyone is ready to play
People don't usually like getting homework but your story is you acting like you were setting a DVR rather than dealing with ordinary people then being surprised after two months that they didn't follow your instructions. That means
>Two months of you assuming they'd just learn a system you, not they, were excited to play
>Two months of you not finding out how far along they were
>Two months of you not asking if they had any problems with their character creation
GM as micromanager would be annoying as a player and frustrating as gm if you did have to herd players like sheep but asking after a month how they're getting on isn't micromanagement. Two months of you not following up is a you issue not a player issue.
>>
>>97280823
Probably had multiple opportunities to ask about problems in those two months
>>
>>97280884
The onus is on the players to actually play the game. The GM is not a kindergarten teacher trying to herd retarded children around.
>>
> no one bothers to remember shit between sessions
> turns into a lot of "what are we doing" or "i dont understand whats going on"
> one player will just start hallucinating dumb shit the others just shrug and go along with whoever speaks first

If you're okay with reprints, Konami's reprint policy is really freaking good these days and they also kinda blew their load for the 25th anniversary and printed some nostalgia sets. Otherwise it just depends on your preference, though the Japanese ones will almost certainly be cheaper.

We're getting full arts in coming sets, with some an extra special version called "Grand Master Rare" though that particular level is so extremely rare that it's gonna be in investment territory.

If you want to go in on more general collectng, Konami has a pretty aggressive reprint policy that means there's gonna be a fair number of options out there.

Since you mentioned going for graded stuff, know that it's way, way harder to get high grades in Yu-Gi-Oh compared to stuff like Pokemon. 7's aren't that bad of a pickup for instance. If you think I'm joking, the 1-of-1 Tyler the Great Warrior that was in a case from when it came off the line to when it got graded only got a 7. It's partly a matter of quality control, but also because the grading people look really deeply at all the cards for even the tiniest of errors to dock the grade by.

Frenopolis is a gamified tetragrammaton clothed in the memetic zeitgeist.

This thread is for discussion and development logging.

It's easiest to learn with YGO/MTG experience.

It's not for sale, but you can request a free physical 2-player 90 card set by following the instructions in the description of this video:
https://youtu.be/oPoBUoagO_k
(No payment or identifying info required)

Playmats have arrived and will be sent out with the playtesting kits. Anyone who already received a set with the shipping label name "Current Resident" should be receiving one by 1/10/26. If your shipping label was not sent to "Current Resident", email or DM me on telegram so I can send you one.

>>
>>97282587
In picrel top two MTG diagrams, you can see that each of the 5 colors is composed of 2 base concepts, which are then arranged on a spectrum wheel. These concepts are what define the mechanics belonging to a particular color identity. This is a sort of top down approach, letting the concept inform the mechanics.

In Frenopolis, each color is also composed of 2, but they're not concepts, they're Elements which correspond to card types and board zone mappings. The mechanics inform the concept. This is a bottom up approach. The Frenopolis color pie is strictly defined in terms of the game board itself. Color identity cannot be broken.

Would love to share some YTers I like to use for inspiration. Looking for anyone you find helpful. Preferably smaller creators and not restricted to 5e. I’ll submit three that I really enjoy while I’m doing prep

First I’ll submit is Desk and Dorks. The channel is made by a medieval historian and combines his knowledge of subjects to enhance games.

I particularly like his take on Bronze Age fantasy and building better town guards

If you're talking about the video I saw a while ago, the point was about making distinctive NPCs without having to prep or overthink. It's an important thing if you have the players interact with a lot of NPCs, for example when they are creating their keep and gather a bunch of followers in one go or if they want to interact with some powerful group like nobles or a merchant guild.

Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.
Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.

What systems do what this one wants to better?
>>
>>97281603
Absolutely take what I say with a grain of salt since I'm no game dev, but I'd honestly stick to a Powered by the Apocalypse game system, since it seems to want to be basically a more customizable version of that with the whole Tropes and Tags idea of character building. Though in a sense, it also reminds me a lot of Risus in that way.
>>
>>97282455
The biggest thing I struggle with for the PBTA stuff is the moves feel constricting to me. I just don't feel like I'm authentically doing what I want to when it comes to do "all actions you can take are one of these 9 moves."
>>
>>97276085
It sucks

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?
