Page 60 of the core rulebook states

>As Vantage terrain is also Light, an operative on Vantage terrain will often be in cover from operatives lower than them — imagine them crouching down to gain a cover save or avoid being a valid target.

So the rules for drawing targeting lines from one operatives base to another still apply

>>97140366
You can download the rulebook here and check for yourself
>>
>>97139724
Friend wants to get into KT with us and wants to play custodes, but as far as I can tell they no longer have rules, is that true?
>>
>>97256295
Brah custodes are from like 2015 edition.
See the "Brief team summaries" catbox image for what's available. Then look up classified teams
>>
>>97255792
Well, theoretically.
But if what's protecting them is just the flat roof itself, then anyone with an equivalent or higher vantage point can just counter-target them as if they were out in the open.
And while it's usually not enough to have a spotter to target concealed enemies because they'll be hiding behind heavy terrain, vantage is only light, meaning that any team with a readily available seek light option can just shoot it.
Plus, they need to get up there. And stay up there. That's both a prerequisite movement to set up the threat, and a limiter on where they can target enemies. Combined with healthy amounts of heavy terrain, it can be surprisingly hard to get a shot that you couldn't instead have gotten from the ground just as well.

In practice, high ground is more for use to create area denial and niche situations. A vantage point that actually is as good as all those juicy benefits sound is usually a sign of a poor killzone setup.

>>97256295
Yeah, custards were outed with the 2024 edition. Not an option without homebrew. Plus, they never made for particularly fun games, the other player just dumped all killing power into one target and then played hide and seek the rest of the game to win on points.
If he was interested in them for their elite nature, he could look at: raveners, deathwatch, stealth suits, or wolf scouts. All of those are 5 man teams (though some have an extra pet unit or two). Deathwatch especially are a close likeness to what custodes should have been last edition, and are excellent for a beginner to boot.
If it was for a different reason, the OP image that summarizes the teams is probably worth consulting.
>>
>>97256295
You could port custards forward with minimal effort, but he should probably just look at one of the other superelite teams like deathwatch or raveners instead

so then explain the "advice" to photograph your mini and paint highlights based on the lighting in the photo or "just put a lamp next to it and paint where it's brightest." I will acknowledge that you will need to use artistic tricks if you want your dude to look like he's standing in a shadow or in front of an explosion or something, but 99% of the minis I see here or anywhere are clearly just meant to be standing in neutral overhead lighting.

Not too bad, painted "in the lines" and color choices are pretty good. I like the shading on the skin which gives it some depth. If you want to add some depth to the coat you can do a glaze of a dark purple to give it a little bit of color in the shadows, the purple would contrast nicely with the greenish skin. As you paint more you'll get more comfortable and build brush control, which will make everything else that you do look better. Good first mini, now go paint more. Also when you take a pic try putting a piece of printer paper behind it first, helps your camera focus on the mini easier.
>>

Because you can paint your dudes any way that you want. &=^)

>so then explain the "advice" to photograph your mini and paint highlights based on the lighting in the photo
That's mean for newbies trying to learn lighting, or as a visual aid to establish highlight locations. If you want to use that method for anything more advanced, you'd need to recreate the lighting your model inhabits.

>that would necessitate a general habit among all outsiders of never using names at all, wouldn't it?
Titles and pseudonyms exist, with the former being a great fit for Devils given the Infernal Hierarchy.

>ie. if there were demons pestering a kingdom, the standard response wouldn't be
>>send heroes to find the demon
>it would be
>>Clerics play Scrabble via Commune,
>>hand the name over to the mages. Summon the demon leaders one by one to a prison fort and execute them on the spot.
Commune is a 5th-level spell costing 100 XP a pop, only gives a yes-or-no answer, and requires the deity contacted know. Then the Planar Binding spells you'd be using to drag them before you are limited to 6 HD for a 5th, 12 HD for a 6th, and 18 HD for an 8th.

The base of knowledge and casting to pull this off already qualifies as "send heroes to find the demon" by most settings' level-scaling conventions, and it's a rather costly approach to such.

One thing that the Pestilence achieved for the Muslim world was an excuse to exterminate dogs which has led to humans adopting other animals to fill in the gap. Amphibians, who avoided lycanthropy, are particularly prized by sultans who hold their ability to eat absolutely anything in high esteem. Giant spiders are kept around as wardens and guard animals despite having peculiar mannerisms and curious web designs. Crabs are kept by southern kings as the ultimate companions despite just eating everything.

Perhaps the most dangerous development was the adoption of chimpanzees as companion animals which has led to much speculation among magic users. Can they be altered to be more effective workers? They are stronger than humans, thus eliminating the need for the black skinned slaves of the Veldt. And they're stupider, so no more slave revolts. And they're a money saver as the Caliphate will no longer need to castrate male slaves.

What awaits mankind? A return to Monke or... A Planet of the Apes?

Fuck it.
>The Great Apes have evolved due to the great lycanthropy plague. With big reptiles, venomous insects, and overgrown birds taking over the jungle, they faced an existential threat even greater than that of mankind. Stone spears are becoming increasingly common among ape groups, smoke plumes have been observed by Southron explorers in places where no man has ever set foot, and the black men have been pushed to a narrow fringe along the Caliphate's frontier. The Age of Ape has begun, growing out of the wake of the Great Dying, and the Monke will seize the reigns of the new world by force.
>Slave traders value the apes due to their great strength and the ability to follow commands with the sultans seeing no need to castrate them unlike other male slaves. In fact, they want the enslaved chimps to grow as a population. Little did they know, they set the foundation for mankind's ultimate fate. The apes reject Islam in favor of the ancestors though no one ever bothers to actually convert them.

Cephalopods took advantage of the great Lycanthropy die off to move on land. One species of freshwater octopus in particular, have made a home in the wetlands and swamps of what they call the 'over world.' Small, but with very complex social groupings, the Muslims ignore them and just see them as prey animals resulting in a hearty amount of calamari in the Caliphate's diet. Only a southrons have found some very intricate and very complex dwellings in the swamp, including oddly shaped rocks that the octopods tend to congregate around.

These beings are in the awkward phase between bestial instinct and true sapience with most writing them off as wild animals. Very few have observed their music-based form of spiritualism in person and that's good, for the Caliphate would exterminate this haram species if they knew.

>>97260455
The Caliphate reigned for thousands of years after conquering the civilized world probably due to accidentally spreading a plague they didn't understand causing an extinction event . Now for the first time in centuries, they face an equal on the field.

When I’ve given some good magic items I add a CR or two to make up for it. My fights are usually pretty tough so it’s a balancing factor. Maybe your DM does the same.

that's the best thing about dnd
if you want to GUARANTEE a moral dilemna in exactly 20min with even the noobiest of new players totally not into dnd simply have this setup

>town is building wall/defenses, need wood
>ask party to investigate lumber camp in nearby forest that was attacked
>party shows up, dryad asks them to stop the villagers from cutting trees

every single normie player will have a logic error when confronted with this scenario - they cannot figure out what the "good" solution is (cuz there isn't one)

>>97259355
The point of The Line wasn't to make you do the worst war crimes ever, but to critique the idea of violence as heroic, or that you could kill your way out of a bad call. The game has problems in that it doesn't let you back out of this or give you any out that isn't meta (Fart Cry 3 and 4 of all things both did), but I think it's doing something worth doing.

And if you don't agree with it, you just blame the stand-n for the authors and go about your day.
>>
>>97260403
If I'm not mistaken, they actually cut certain content and walled the player in so they had to do the evil things so the game could then finger wag at them about how evil they were for being railroaded into bad decisions.
>>
>>97260478
At the very minimum, the white phosphorous mission legitimately can't be completed or glitched through without gassing the civvies, which is where the game really hammers in how much damage John/the player has done by just following the game's orders, which tends to be the point where people actually reported beginning to get ultra-pissed at the railroad experience
>>
spec ops the line is a midwit filter. If you feel personally attacked by the game it’s because you weren’t alert enough to read between the lines. Walker is not a stand in for you the player, he’s supposed to feel like it. Over the course of the game he’s supposed to become more and more alienated from the player until you realize you’re playing as the bad guy. The final section in the game is the only real choice the player is given. Have walker do the right thing after doing nothing but wrong, punish him for his actions, or have him fully commit to what he’s become.

>b-buh theres no choice! railroading!
you missed the point. other modern military shooters railroad you to doing noble and heroic things just the same, this one railroads you to doing the opposite.
>>
>>97260504
That's nice and all, but the game devs themselves say that the player is supposed to feel personally responsible for choosing to play the game at all, noting in an interview that anyone who hates doing all the shit John Walker does has the "choice" to turn off the game and never pick it up again. Which is a weak-ass "argument", as it basically concedes that the game doesn't actually expect nor care for anyone to actually disagree with the argument it's presented on its own terms.

To me, the only Nephandi lore that is worth keeping is the whole "they go through the cawl, twist their avatar and become evil beyond redemption and even killing them isn't enough because they'll be evil on their next lifecycle too. Also Lovecraft Cthulhu shit, maybe."
No "qliphotic spheres" bullshit (the Qliphoth should just be another paradigm but Satyros was too cumbrained to understand Typhonian Thelema since those books don't talk about orgies), no "all infernalism leads to nephandi" and definitely no "mammonites and baphies and cryptobros and evil Elon Musk" retardation.
My Nephandi are just evil for evil's sake, they only seek to please the concept of absolute corruption and their evil goes far beyond simple greed or self-centered goals. They're the ones who see a spell that requires the skull of a jew and instead of going grave robbing like a normal person, they manipulate a rabbi to murder a kid and pin the blame on a black guy, then tell the klan about it and finally, after the race war is ignited he grabs the rabbi's skull from the morgue. They're the ones who don't just murder babies, they cook them and indoctrinate their parents into thinking it's a good idea so now they're going to have another baby so they can cook it themselves, and eventually go on to form a community of baby-eating parents.
Nephandi shouldn't be "chaotic evil." They should be "retarded evil but somehow it works."

Between all the obsession with control and having one of their camps regularly infiltrating BSD hives, Shadow Lords are probably the most degenerate gaian tribe. Cucking is likely the one of the most tame things he/she has done with the SF bf
>spoiler related comment
That was the condition the sept alpha set to allow him to marry fertile kin

And Ga*ans wonder why their kinfolk and some Garou defect.
>Letting a Shadow Lord get control over you or be a sept alpha too
Asking for it. Guy will institute mandatory loyalty checks and silver cock cages, probably more for fun than for any useful reasons.

>That entire disaster just for a jew skull, not even from the child, from the Rabbi who's soul he doomed
Holy based, I'd vote for him.

Shadow Lords are also the only tribe that aided Red Talons to create New Impergium secretly from other Tribes. They are only reluctant to help them further because they know the shit they would be in...because of that Red Talons support Shadow Lords if they replace the Silver Fangs.

Played them yesterday in recon. They're fun and mean. Just added the assault cannon and deleted B2s off the board.
