I've spent the last year, studying, and designing a custom Arthurian set, originally intended to be based on Le Morte d'Arthur (like how P3k was based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms). However, as I continued to study, and look into different (and some obscure sources) this turned into a much more wider net. This set, which is no where near finished includes>Welsh Triads and The Magnibong>Pre-Vulgate Arthur traditions>Vulgate/Post Vulgate/Lancelot cycles>some English/Welsh fairy tales>and even a bit of the Victorian Arthurian revival (especially for art). I avoided the Italian and German romances entirely, and tried not to include weird outliners except when needed. Outside of art, nothing is sourced from the 20th century or onward. Also all art is public domain. I'm mainly posting here for feedback. Some will be art recommendations, flavor text (especially sourced) will be always welcomed.Comment too long. >>97285684Its not though. Its featured on less that 5 cards in the set.
>>97285701Well, that's less bad, going by the cards you posted I assumed it was a set mechanic, but I still do not see why you're actually including it when it doesn't make for any good games. You have horsemanship if you want a knight-focused oldhead mechanic that doesn't play like dog shit and doesn't take five minutes to explain.
>>97285676Yeah well it's fine if you ignore those sets existence
>>97285676>OTJ...OTJ didn't have legendary-matters, though.I think the last set to have that was Dominaria.
>>97285751Among normal sets, Dominaria had historic stuff, yes, but Lord of the Rings did it afterward, and Dr. Who, then Asscreed. Also it was a theme in one the Dominaria United commander decks with pic related. They do make occasionally legend synergy stuff but it hasn't been a set theme in a non-UB set for a while.
>no display names>no player cards >large groupHow do I keep track of the characters? It’s such a weird thing to ignore. Just throw a name and picture onto the screen like every other Channel does

>makes Laura's PC be his twin sister, then proceeds to imply an incestuous relationship or make otherwise creepy comments. i.e. "Let's pretend we are married" "Remember when we used to take baths together?">constantly needs to fondle her at the table>tries to romance her PC in C2 and has to be stopped by her husband (picrel), his PC later claiming she is but his "best friend">directs that he be next to her in nearly every live show or panel>claims she's only like a sister to himIf that is true, that's creepy. If that's not true, that's creepy.Verdict: Creepy fucker

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. For us kitbashers and crazy printers, how much do you try to abide by WSYWIG?I make an honest attempt, because the base models I use a relatively cheap, so I can afford to use bits to glam them up and make what I want for different scenarios.
>>97284800Its hard to do it with campaign games as youll likely be upgrading or swapping equipment on units as the campaign progresses, so I just stick to something that can be approximated. Like ill make a model with a 1 handed sword, but in the profile I can just say its a 2 handed sword when I pay to swap the weapon out,, or a bolt action rifle is a semi auto rifle if I swap it out.Its why its good to have a theme or intended upgrade path for units so you have something to model around. Remember, you really need about 20 models in reality for this, youll be adding and upgrading units over time.

>>97279937Black Crusade has complications to making weight matter since for space marines in power armour their carry weight is crazy. It's only came up so far with minions especially the serf and aspirant minions who were always encumbered like pic related.I haven't limited how many weapons they could carry (currently they aren't carrying unreasonable numbers of weapons) but just houseruled that weapons they could actually draw in combat without using an action to fish them out was limited to whatever was in their hands plus 2 maglock points excluding grenades (obviously heavy weapons can't be put away or maglocked). I also kept track of ammo. It's been a very effective tension/risk reward mechanic as they currently are wandering homeless renegades with no resupply and legion ammo is hard to find in almost all places. Obviously that will become less of an important choice once they get shit like a ship or hideout.
>>97272190Well yeah there's that side to it, but also in general the whole point of having these rules is to provide a simulation of "reality" (as reality exists in that universe). If say, just for one example a regular human in only a bodysuit is tanking more damage than an ogryn, that weakens the simulation. The more this kind of thing is done the more it erodes this framework put in place to provide such a simulation, and nothing fucking matters right? You're all working to collaboratively make this big cool story, but if you're not following a cohesive set of rules your story is tantamount to toddlers in the sand pit bashing toys together and blowing raspberries. Like who cares if X character did something real epic and survived Y to pull off Z when this character is coated in plot armour and constantly rolling crazy high, nigh impossible to fail tests because we're all ignoring what's actually on the character sheet and the action/combat rules in the book? Just something to bring up to them and see what they say.
>>97282674Totally agree. If you don't want to use the system then don't use the system in my opinion.>>97279937The main thing is if your dudes are having fun at the end of the day and it sounds like they are. For me personally you're just not playing dark heresy, you've taken it and changed it into something else. It's funny to me because dark heresy is system I see being bastardized this way the most. You even see it on /tg/ where people recount epic tales but when you know the system you're like "they either were not following RAW by miles, or they're making it up."
I'm a sucker for romance arcs in games (actual romance not ERP), anyone have any fun stories linked to that?
>>97283258I run Rogue Trader presently and the completely unprepared for the role RT and the hotshot Void Master that was picked out of the gutter to be "the designated heir's little friend" are having a blast with their characters' unresolved but rapidly developing feelings towards each other
Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.

Otherwise you have to deal with the trap with resources or saves4e :skill challenges.5e: everyone has a chance to disable the trap, but the guy with thieves tools has a better shot.Legend of the mist: if there is a lock that does nothing if you fail the skill check, you just bypass it if you have the skill. If failing the skill check would activate a trap or summon guards, it becomes a whole ordeal that's not too different from a 4e skill challengeOsr: if there's combat, you treat it like war and get unfair advantages.3.5/5e it's a whole new game you have to playLitM: combat has the same rules as challenges. Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsingSo I started thinking. For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup? There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat? What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory? What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.Comment too long. >>97281852Interesting.>We've used a ball toss mechanic with candyland back in the day. You'd draw a card and count the spaces, then have to consecutively land that many balls in cups. You moved only as far as your successful shots, and drank the number you were short. It worked well for our purposes. How far was the cup? Any more info?>I can see a human skill based resolution working in some games,OK.> but in others it would be incredibly annoying. How so? After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session. Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away. And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.>4e books are ~10-15$ now. Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch. Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings? >4e thread I guess
>>97284787I've been mixing the books a bit. My wife wanted to play from the Fae book and my brother wanted to play from the elemental book. So far so smooth.
>>97284665Honestly, I do too. A lot of 4e fans hate it because it stepped away from the AEDU framework and people who liked 4e liked that framework, but I don't actually care about that: an attack is an attack, and "hit harder" is a perfectly valid improvement rather than getting a "hit REALLY hard 1/encounter and move enemy one step / give enemy -1 slaves for 1 round/etc."A lot of 4e's problem is having too much faff in combat, and Essentials classes reduced the faff
>>97284813If your players don't go hard in the paint, it can work, especially if you modulate battles towards their strengths.>>97284845I gently disagree, as I believe the wealth of options at all times was a boon for players who wanted to have meaningful impact outside 'I hit the dude'.I've brought in almost a dozen new players to the hobby with 4e, and I have found that it is fairly easy to understand, has depth, and forges good habits of mindfulness and paying attention to the battle when the spotlight isn't directly on you.One of my cherished memories was running a game for some teens at my LGS, and the fighter being the star because she just ran around protecting everyone, forcing a chokepoint and battering the attacking spider demons. The look on her face when the party was cheering her on, watching the group fall in together like a well oiled engine, supporting each other, that is what this hobby really is about for me.That was more than 10 years ago. I wonder what they are doing now?
>>97236120Of course 4e is going through a rennaissance. Compared to the monster that is 5e, 4e is very GM friendly to the point where a guy who hates making preps can actually run a decent campaign.
>>97284665I'm a big 4e fan and an Essentials hater but I'd still rather run pure Essentials than 3e or 5e. Its hated because of how boring its classes are compared to the base game, how unbalanced its classes are even compared to each other and the fact that it throttled books 4e fans actually wanted in the crib like the rest of the X Power 2 books and the Nentir Vale lore book. It then caused a sales crash which killed the edition, exactly what Mearls wanted when he started Essentials. The Monster Vaults, Rules Compendium, adventures and equipment book would have been 10/10 if they weren't formatted like shit. I wish it had run long enough for Monster Vault 2 to redux MM2 like how MV1 was a 95% redux of MM1 with the better math and more options.

>>97285413In an ideal world there wouldn't be such a ludicrous markup on sleeves especially now that the hobby is filled with nogamers because I too would love to get stupid funny sleeves and also have random themed binders. The idea of paying for an inner and outer sleeve at current prices is comical. But at the same time the faggitry in here today claiming that penny sleeves don't work is all I need to know that the average age is quite low considering it was all we had when tcgs were sport cards' little brotherDecades ago I would add random stupid ass anime show sleeves to my import order for other crap because it was like a buck for a 100 pack. >>97285517My brother's married and he comes over to learn games (usually at starter deck levels) to this day, but he's just so low commitment we never get to see real constructed battles of anything. I admire the fact he's a good sport about learning whatever game I'm playing though. Some things never change, eh? Do I play that game anymore? No, but I thought about surprising my brother with a new star trek deck and trying to get him back into it. The game plays really well, I can't remember what the flaws were because it's been decades since that story time. Maybe one day I'll build two really good construction decks and we'll have a go, for old time's sake. Presently he's the same bro that bought me Gothic starters for the holidays, so I'll be teaching him that next. He's in for a real treat with that one, I reckon. The Doom decks have some nice teeth to em, unlike the older ones. As for DOA BVB, we use to legitimately play it for the mechanics. When my Bro first rented it from Block Buster me and my freind pulled an all nighter taking turns with him, playing the mini games and getting some sick volleys in. Great times. The real issue is finding time. We have so many fun games we have decks for already, and a handful that we haven't even learned to play yet.I hope you and your brother have fun with Sorcery! Sounds like he found a great gift for the two of you to share.>Miss the simpler days, as I'm sure others can relate.Without a doubt.
>>97285674First off, happy birthday. Hell of a date. I'm years off from turning 40, but it's nearer than I want to admit.>The real issue is finding time. That's the biggest game killer of all, making schedules and locations line up perfectly so game jams can commence. I pine for the days of having a whole weekend just for gaming, but with how busy things can get, especially during the holidays, it's easy to have that game jam get pushed back months at a time. What's important is keeping at it, and not letting the dust settle so hard it just kills your drive to try new things.
