Moloch's Fun Park Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Argos has historically been a word defined and used by the Church to mean laziness, slow, and idleness in duties you should perform for God (worship, charity, etc). So the City of Argos can be translated as "(Performing) No Good for God" in Christian context. Maybe it succumb to Sloth worship in some manner and was wiped out for it? They must've posed a unique threat for God to have taken action personally, something potentially that violated his plan.

True, because I absolutely can. It's better to have the resurrection ability as an option, but one that is limited and able to be shut down.

There's a lot of actual mechanics already that interfere with resurrection spells at a variety of degrees you can use for your stakes without imposing a crapshoot and a death spiral on something that's a stable option in contradiction to the incredible majority of restorative magic.

And the changes from the TSR editions that have such a thing make it even more punitive, as survivability is vastly more sensitive to Constitution and there's quite a few options with it as a prerequisite, including an entire subsystem, creating a very real chance that a frontline character pidgeonholed into the highest risk of death will not merely death-spiral to the loss of survivability but outright stop functioning properly at all.

Add in that the GP and XP as recoverable rivers philosophy is an intentional, quite explicit, and nigh-omnipresent departure from the mentality you're trying to restore, and it looks like a very silly kind of adversarial DMing.

That is me. I am still working on it, slowly. The combat system works great and is very versatile, with room for upgrades and tons of skills and equipment, lasting injuries and such. It basically just copies Blood Bowl but with abstracted positioning, and using 3d6 instead of 2d6 so it has a bit more room for variety. The main issue is that it isn't particularly fast, doing lots of these combats in a single dungeon run doesn't sound appealing. Especially over and over again. It is also reliant on you playing against yourself, as you are also controlling the delvers. I mitigate that by having delvers worth more the further they get into your dungeon, so you want a sort of balancing act where you want the delvers to succeed because it makes them worth more points, but also want to defeat them. I'm thinking I might have most encounters in the dungeon solved by simple skill checks or simplified battles of some sort, with a full battle against that room's denizens only happening rarely. That would make it fun because you might really want to see how the monsters of particular rooms fare in combat, but they are only actually fought rarely. Puts tension on every dice roll that way.

For actual dungeon building I'm operating with a tag system. Rooms are basically just empty spaces with archtypes applied to them, then you can fill the room with features. Features both require a tag and also usually add a tag or two. Features cost a certain amount of points, and also require a certain amount of space that you have to account for. For example the Water feature requires the Natural tag, or an adjacent room with the Water tag. It obviously adds the Water tag and also provides food of the Fish type, etc.

So as an example, I might have a room that is of the Fortress archtype, which grants the Military tag. The Military tag is required for me to build a Barracks feature in the room, which grants the room the Training tag, which gives access to various types of trained Denizens like soldiers or captains. Normally the Water feature requires the Natural tag, but since there is an adjacent room that already has the Water tag, I can add it here and say the goblins built a canal or something.

Well, after Kerk the warrior made it out of the dungeon, he hoofed it to the nearest town (A couple days away.) While he was there, he gathered some equipment and sought out other adventurers to take with him, (Safety in numbers, and all that.)
However, as he was looking for other likeminded people to adventure with, he instead found a merchant who'd been assaulted on the road. The merchant explained that he was attacked by goblins on the eastern road, and that his business partner was taken by the little green men. If I can recover his business partner (Or his corpse,) then I will be rewarded a couple hundred gold. I was going to purchase a suit of platemail, but shamefully platemail is really expensive in this town. (Go figure, I'm in the middle of nowhere.)

I marched down to the goblin's hideout, but right outside they're using a nest of giant rats as a sort of defense. I actually thought I died to the giant rats because of how I rolled, but then I forgot that when you kill half of an enemy's units that you need to roll for morale. Luckily they ran away after I killed several of them, because otherwise Kerk would be dead... He hobbled back to town and told the merchant, "Look, I'll go back and see if I can find your buddy, but I need more equipment, more help, and a couple days to recover..."

It sounds like you actually read the rules, though. You just didn't meticulously go through the list of all traits and gear items available, which is something I don't expect most GMs to do. In fact, it's the GM's job to make stuff like that up anyways. The GMs I have problems with are those who don't even know what dice or modifiers to use for basic skill checks. The GMs whose understanding of the game is so poor that I can't even play my character properly. Everything on my sheet might as not be there before the GM isn't even using the rules I need for my character to work.

When last we met, we made G.E.T.S. (Generally Entertaining Team-built System). Thus far, it seems to be a fairly minimalist system.

Now, we shall make our first setting for this system.

If your proposed idea gets doubles, it is canonized. Any canon characters, worldbuilding, themes, et cetera can be modified (but not outright contradicted or discarded) by triples, quadruples, et cetera.

Let us continue.

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

(Continued.)

If you pick the biggest conspiracy possible, all the characters are horrible, fucked-up Evangelion monsters constantly on the verge of collapsing into piles of radioactive gore and melting the entire planet into nanomachines and are only held together by love and hatred. It's Devilman, not D&D. The game doesn't actually want you to go bigger than SHOCKER.
>>
>>97235301

The game does, actually, want you to play at Standing/Threat Level 7 to 10 at some point, at least in theory. That is why the core rulebook has two Standing 7 conspiracies, Onachus and the Vigilance Society, and has rules for Standing 8 through 10.

The upcoming Deep Dive supplement is supposed to detail ten conspiracies from Standing 1 to 2, ten from Standing 3 to 5, ten from Standing 6 to 8, and another ten from Standing 9 to 10. Many of them have already been previewed, mostly in full. Have a look at the blurbs for the Old Boys Club, the Stargazers, and the Symposium here, for example: >>97217974

Black Vans specifically offers the possibility of starting at a Threat Level higher than 6. As far as Scar management goes, you can either:
• Just deal with it.
• Do the cheesy thing of picking the least inconvenient Scars.
• Use one of the Black Vans alternate supernatural types, who do not have to deal with Scars.
• Use one of the Black Vans variants that tremendously reduces Scars. The high fantasy and superhero emergence genres both greatly dial down Scars, for example, and there are suggestions for mixing and matching genres with bits and pieces.
>>
Quick question:
Can deviants be made by other splats? I read somewhere that you could.
>>
>>97237624
Yep. Basically anything can make a Deviant.
>>
>>97237624

Yes, this is referenced multiple times throughout the core rulebook, and Black Vans' chapter on other supernatural types repeatedly points this out.

The process of making any other supernatural type, whether an Arcadian durance or a vampiric Embrace, could potentially generate a Deviant instead. Even just feeding, like a changeling absorbing Glamour or a vampire sucking Vitae, could potentially cause a Divergence.

Similarly, it is possible for someone who is already a supernatural to become a Deviant. A demon, a mage, a mummy, or whatever could potentially undergo Divergence due to some freak occurrence.

Black Vans' chapter on other supernatural types has rules allowing Deviants to "multisplat," in a way, and take select abilities from other supernatural types.

What are some things that retired adventurers in double-digit levels could get up to in a city?

I have an idea for a faction for the next chapter of my campaign being built around five such figures who hold different forms of formal or informal power in the same city, and are still on friendly terms with each other. Each of the five has a successful business operation or other field of influence which may or may not be related to their class abilities, and they can call upon each other for assistance if they run into problems of any kind.
>>
Most adventurers either die on the job or become vagabonds once they cannot do the job anymore.
>>
>>97237394
Most. I want these five to feel like the competent exception, good enough to retire comfortably while still being "in the game" to the point where they get most of the reward with little of the risk.
>>
>>97237367
What game?
Assuming 5e double digits is high enough to solo mid level devils and demons, so you're probably on retainer with a mercenary company defending the city or its more powerful institutions, leading your own prominent temple, enjoying high placement as a city official or as celebrity researchers/alchemists

Really this is easily solved by writing the characters first, then assigning them an organization after
>>
Since you're obviously talking about D&D where even reaching second level as an adventurer means you've made more money than the average commoner will see in his entire life, these people are probably going to be too wealthy to care about anything besides engaging in unspeakable acts of hedonism.

>The problem is that they act like those decks never existed, brainlet-kun. Some of them are even asking for Fenrir unbans because "lol they might as well if hudie is in the game!!!!"
Oh boo hoo, people aren't talking about last season's problem meta when they're complaining about current season meta. Why is that even a problem? Also "Some of them" are probably just the people who played Fenrir before it was banned, of course they want their deck banned you numbskull. Think before you post.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:

2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.

Pic related, Poots' ruling on the topic back in 2019. It does seem like he changed his tune on a lot of the SotF reroll rulings, probably for the better, but yes he literally used exactly that example back then.

Old Master art is pretty amazing.

I've decided in the new year I'm going to finally start putting my armor kit survivors together, and I'm going to put half of them in "stereotypical" loadouts and save the other half to immortalize important survivors at the end of campaigns. With that in mind, how does this sound for the stereotypical ones:

>Unarmored: Bone Sword, Bone Axe, Bone Sickle + Pickaxe + Bone Darts, Catgut Bow
>White Lion: Paired White Lion Katars, Paired White Lion Daggers
>Gorment: Gaxe + Knuckle Shield + Gorn, Rib Blade
>Silk: Amber Poleaxe, Paired Hooded Scrap Katars
>Screaming: Counterweighted Axe, Lance of Longinus
>Phoenix: Rainbow Katana, Paired Sonic Tomahawks
>Rolling: Digging Claw + Beacon Shield, Juggernaut Blade
>Dragon: Nuclear Scythe, Nuclear Dagger
>Cycloid: Ink Blade, Skleaver
>Rawhide: Cat Gut Bow, Rawhide Whip
>Leather: Zanbato, Skullcap Hammer + Leather Shield
>Lantern: Dragon Slayer, Bone Club + Beacon Shield
