Anything by Jules Verne.
Of course, the issue there is that he lived when Steam tech was the newest thing, so at the time his works were just speculative fiction. It's only after steam faded that his works became the basis for a new psudogenre

I wouldn't put it past them to eventually add it back in because their MO the last 2 or 3 years has been really heavily creeping the systems for their games. But at the same time as long as it isnt as dumbed down as gundam, true release being it for the time being is not the worst idea. Build a stable base before expanding

No-one's got M4 yet. Guy whose house we played at has core, and one guy has Core, M1, M2 but never played it. They want a few more games on just core getting to grips with it which is fine though I'm okay to jump right in. Honestly I'm a little spooked by the difference in pacing that'll be caused by the M4 promotion requirements and the isostandard market flip thing.

I had a horrifying idea of taking MTG shit and putting it in dnd in some way, how probable is this?
>>
>>97228724
Pretty common thing, yeah
>>
>>97228724
old mtg stuff grafts pretty perfectly to oldschool dnd
one ruling that i remember is treating the manacost of cards as their level/hd x2, so a 6 mana cost creature would be a 12 hd monster for example, and then you can make micro adjustments of course.
I am sure a conversion to 3.5 is possible as well even if it doesnt fit so well. Thematically it's obviously doable with most archetypes featuring race/class or both.
I guess one could make planar setting splat with homebrew races and classes depending on the cards of the set without any thematic difficulty.
I guess balance can be whatever. you can simply graft cards into existing monsters for some down and dirty conversions .
I generally think that the idea has legs. Which plane of magic were you thinking about converting?
>>
>>97228724
I'm pretty sure everyone who both plays mtg and d&d has had that idea at some point, they lend into each other pretty well. Which is probably why they did it for real in 5e with...varying results.
>>
Has anyone ever run or thought about running a one-shot D&D and/or Pathfinder game where you used ALL of the optional and niche D20 mechanics?
I'm talking Sanity, Taint, Flaws, etc. It'd be a complete cluster fuck, but those can be some of the best games.

There are some beasts that are too high CR.
>>
>>97229752
First of all many of the low CR beasts have extremely overpowered abilities and second of all as a druid you also have access to conjure woodland creatures which allows you to summon 8 fairies which can each cast polymorph and invisibility and shit
You can also just raw polymorph
Anyway yeah shit is busted

>Where in the 2ed rulebook does it describe the consequences of being on fire? It's not under psychology.
Special rules for flame weapons in the armory book
>In 2ed you can't fire through other models in the same unit, right? I couldn't find the exception.
nope, no exception, although large targets can be sighted over smaller models. In practice it rarely matters because of the severe firing arc restrictions, and because sighting any model in an opposing squad is enough. You also wind up splitting fire a LOT more in 2e than you'd think. Losing split fire entirely was actually one of the bigger complaints when the edition change rolled out. Letting you fire through models in the same squad was partly a quick-fix for that. A whole bunch of the tweaks in 4e were trying to get around people using precise unit placement and range fuckery to "snipe" exactly the models they wanted out of an enemy unit, as well as prevent the defender from playing shell games with wounds to avoid losing specific models.

> You can hide the Avatar in a unit because he has no such rule.

Bitch please. He's a giant flaming avatar of a war god, he can't even hide at night.
>>
>>97225200
Don't have my 4th ed book on hand but it could be a technical ruling in the sense no one ever tried so it didn't come up.
Might be that the avatar counts as a daemon and they can't join units iirc but I don't remember if they were keywording things like that yet.
How did the Court of the Young King work? That seems like the most working example of maybe having a monstrous creature daemon in a unit of regular sized models.
>>
>>97229377
Court of the Young King is a retinue, the Avatar is a part of it like any IC.

>>97228851
That's how it works. Tyranid Monstrous Creatures are different because they have the Shoot the Big Ones rule, the Avatar doesn't.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

None that I know of; again, if we agree that wizards are as rare in a Napoleonic setting as in your average fantasy setting and not so ridiculously powerful that any other kind of support for infantry would be pointless in comparison then it's fine, otherwise I just can't see any reason to have anything but them around to hit enemies from a distance if that's all you need to crash opposing armies,as in here >>97229646
Napoleonic armies with a wizard on each side doing their thing is an interesting idea; one with full platoons of them is just regular high tantasy
>>
>>97229936
I just double checked, they can shoot two kinds of missiles, a fireball equivalent to a large catapult and a lightning bolt equivalent to a field gun. They do get other spells though and are better than a literal catapult because of them. But the fireball itself lands like a catapult.
>>
>>97229601
If you accept that a wizard can exist in a setting with guys with swords n shit without invalidating them entirely then you should be able to accept a wizard existing in a setting with guns n shitm Unless you are being intellectually dishonest and willfully obtuse just to have an argument because you are bored and crave human interaction. So again, fuck off cretin.
