Finished up my second Bolt Action dude today at work. Still fairly new to mini painting but its been fun learning to dry brush and find ways to get angles to paint where its hard to reach. Poor lighting friends wwa
Has anyone bought square bases from White Dragon Miniatures and do they look like GW ones?

>>97221074Think I've already given you enough recommendations for a few dozen hours of play but oh well. For solo make sure to stay away from Card-Driven games. And again chit pull is your friend, after Reds you could play more Ted Raicer games like The Dark Sands. Ambon Burning Sun might be another good one, with the invasion mechanic you're not controlling enormous unwieldy forces which you struggle to forget which counters have moved, it's self-contained beach heads.Non-hex games I've recently enjoyed are Operation Bollebank and Habsburg Eclipse, which are dedicated solo only.I see that you are in a terrible timezone so I'm not going to offer any multiplayer with you but maybe someone else in this thread or in /bgg/ might.

>>97221936Unless they fundamentally altered the core systems my understanding was that 6e was irredeemable garbage that played like FATE; in which case you could have just played fate and cut out the middle-man.
>>97221960Okay cool. I'll avoid and look for something else or wait for that Anarchy 2.0 to come out. Preview looked decent. Also off topic, but why do designers have a hard on for rules lite "narrative" style games these days? Why is there such a big push to reinvent the wheel instead of just reiterating and improving on what previously worked.
>>97221936Gobbet, my beloved.
>>97221975There's this idea that there's a barrier to popularity in complexity; and that the simpler a game is the more money it's going to make. Not only is this completely wrong, they're often stupidly tearing out most of the interesting systems and mechanics and leaving behind dull ones because they weren't complicated.RED thankfully didn't make this mistake, not entirely. It's simpler, but there's plenty going on to keep people interested without also being in modifier hell (though I feel a lot of GMs I've played with are terrified of applying circumstantial modifiers, so it's whatever). There are other flaws in the system, but the bones are good and you can build it up where it needs bulk.
>>97222039tbf Red does try it's hand at more narrative style gameplay. Rockerboy and Media have very wishy washy abilities open to interpretation. Also Red does try to limit crunch by making the combat and character building very simple.

So I don't agree that it was ever a powerful metaphor for anything more than, "people really will believe the weirdest shit".
I literally don't remember half of these, no, because as someone who bought the Book of the Astronomican when it came out you've made most of them up.It was never directly stated that the Primarch's were clones. Heck, they were just Chapter Masters and when they got firmed up just before 2nd Ed they were always stated to be genetically engineered, so they weren't clones. Logically bits of their DNA were always taken from others. The Imperium were literally breeding with Eldar in the RT rulebook.Salamanders were just black guys (actually it was never explicitly painted and probably just a coincidence from the guide from the paint set but lets roll with that) and the ashen skin guys was itself an incredibly dumb retcon. The custodes were 100% nothing because there were only four lines of text about them until fucking 8th edition.LE2 had a beaked helmet, but literally the second marine model ever, LE10, didn't.The Emperor being dead was always fannon that had a few bits of in-world evidence but just as much that directly contradicted it.The Emperor's motivations were always shady, given he was literally nicked from Dune and that comes with it.

>>97221822I know they didn't tell you this, but. If you root around for a bit in the past threads and know the PDF sharethread customs, there's a trove of all the rules for KDM. You can find readily-available recasts as well as 3DP proxies/scans elsewhere for a lot cheaper than plastic. That said there's not much else that does the highly-tactical PvE boss fights and freaky monsters thing you seem to be looking for. >>97219214I think the biggest issue with the game retaining players is how harsh the transition from thinking you've almost won games into realizing that getting your opponent to 1 hp while he has 5 cards wasn't close at all.
>>97221306Unfortunately so. That only bothers me because some have really good art that I wish were in paper. >>97221501>That said, they have brought over some DMP exclusive cards to paperI saw that, it's mixed feelings mostly just depending on the card. I don't mind for the vast majority but it usually boils down to like one or two I hyper fixate on. Gives a good opportunity to try shit out without harming the mainline product.
Why is it so common for fantasy rpgs that try to do the "Deep Lore" stuff to always default to Gnosticism or H.P. Lovecraft in a trench coat?

Have you tried Space Gits? It's an unusual skirmish game by Mike Hutchinson (made Gaslands). It seems to be the ultimate casual skirmish that you play while chugging beer.A lot of mechanics are dexterity based, for example instead of losing health or wounds, your fighters add D6's to their dice tower, which has to be moved alongside them (and when it drops over, they drop down). Shooting is also quirky - you roll dice equal to the number of shots and then trace lines between a shooter and each die to see if you hit the target. Landed shots use die's result, so a single roll is made to-hit and to-wound, which I think is neat.I'm going to try it this thursday. My only two complaints so far is that close combat seems bland (its basically rock-paper-scissors) and it's really easy to deny it by spamming shove. My other complaint is that the rulebook's art is atrocious vomit.Everything else checks out though, it even seem to have a basic campaign system.
There's like five gorillion quirky skirmish games and like 3 decent and played agnostic wargames so I just don't care. I don't wanna play star krump or sludge fight or city punch or robot nipple twisters or whatever else if it's just another 7 niggas fight another 7 niggas on a 2x2 board.

>>97218804No Inspire action is pretty meh for Social Influence. Teamwork is also way too strong, I'd cap it somehow.Other than that, I have a way better time with it than 3e because it actually feels playable and doesn't try and obfuscate the differences between Exalt types by breaking them up into hundreds of fiddly literal who charms.
>>97219954IMO they named too many of the Eight generals. Also they did that thing with Ipithymia that they did with the Lover and made her sexless. At that point, just make a different character so that people who liked her can feel free to port her forward without much hassle.
>>97221979For whatever reason I didn't mind what the changes to Ipithymia nearly as much as I did those to Lover. In part it's probably because I always found loli genderbent UCS sex street pretty silly, and in part because Ipithymia, unlike Lover, at least gets a pretty interesting new deal to replace what was removed. It's true that just having the new Ipithymia be a new character with a new name would've been better, though.
>>97221979>At that point, just make a different character so that people who liked her can feel free to port her forward without much hassle. You could say the same thing for 3e in general though. Just make a different game.
>>97222115Nah, 3E as a whole, for all its flaws, is definitely Exalted and obviously written by people who care a whole lot about Exalted. The worst parts about 3E, setting aside the mechanical issues of the core, aren't ones where the writers seem like they'd want to write something else but ones where they half-ass things due to obviously being embarrassed of something from the past editions but simultaneously too fond of that something to really let go and change things. I mean things like Raksi being sort of a cannibal monster still but kind of not, or Lilith, or Lover, or, to a lesser extent, Ipithymia.

>>97217099Understandable, have a good day.
>>97203960Ask me how I know you enjoy the stench of unwashed dicks, fauxgrog. The "oldhammer" you LARP as loving existed for about four months in 1987 and was never even the intent of the people creating and publishing the game, it is purely an artifact of them being an actual small business at the time and so having to serialise the publication of their game and setting. Rick Priestly has said in numerous interviews that barring a few irrelevant details the "tidied up" version of 40K that arrived with 2nd edition was always the version they had in mind and were working towards with RT, and again barring a few irrelevant trivialities 2nd and 3rd are completely consistent as regards the setting. Orks being treated more as "sometimes amusing but an actual threat" rather than "LOLELEPEEPEEPOOPOO LE RANDUMB" - which was always to some extent an exaggeration anyway - is about the only serious "change". The rules were changed, certainly, but they'd also changed with 2nd and you groglarpers always pretend that wasn't a big deal despite it being a huge shift from pseudo-RPG combat system to genuine wargame, with 3rd being a comparitively much smaller change from bloated character focused wargame to slightly streamlined unit focused wargame. Also first major pricehike? Lol. Lmao. Eat shit buddy, I remember actual shouting matches between customers and staff because of price rises in the mid 90's.I don't know whether you're a pretendy-grog trying to pretend your imagined "original & pure" 40K actually existed or simply a Latehammer faggot maneuvering to try and pretend all the rancid slop you enjoyed as GW steadily ruined their IPs in the mid 2010s onward, but either way it's not gonna work bubby, some of us were actually there.

You can literally watch the process happening in real time as the FAQ section progresses. It was happening at the same time (1997-1999) and roughly the same pace in 40k, Clan War, and several other games. BattleTech had the same thing start to happen a few years earlier in ~1993-1995, but a mix of brutal pushback from the rest of the community and the type of organized play events that were happening largely killed it off. Everyone agreed that tournaments were fucking cancer and consigned them to the Bloodname melees at GenCon, the other events all stayed story-related or were shits-and-giggles stuff like Masters and Minions

>>97207618>those aren't dungeons, those are just... dangerous places. what's the point of saying that they are "dungeons"?Dungeon is just a catch all term for dangerous places now. Originally it started out as the term for a castle's keep building. It then began to be used as the name for a castle's underground prison cells. When the massive dungeon system under Castle Greyhawk was discovered and explored along with the cave systems below it, late comers started calling the entire system a dungeon rather than just the finished upper levels of the underground. It didn't help that Zagyg sealed a bunch of demon lords in the lower levels making them in effect actual dungeon levels.
