The first post they quoted is self-evidently grim and there were multiple replies explaining why. Can/do you read?

The second and third are a little harsher but I understand. It is pretty grim for someone to want to get into a miniature game but want (or have) to be like, "I can't buy any miniatures though." Use numbered tokens at that point instead of standees. But this is grim because of a society that leaves people too poor to buy miniatures, above all else.

>disconnect between player expectations of balance (that every option should be relevant and fairly well-balanced against each other)
curse those insane, unreasonable player expectations!
it has fuck all to do with design intent, cmon. GW not playtesting sufficiently isn't a new phenomenon. in 40 years they've released a grand total of zero games where the internal balance wasn't blown to shit. (which isn't to say they have made no great games, but you usually need 10+ years of post-oop community patches before you have anything that could be called "balance" with a straight face) they don't care now and they didn't much then either.
>>
>>97264514
I meant the second conversation point. Using paper stand-in is ok. And noone needs to be able to buy minis. It is sad when someone cant afford them, but they are not that important to not use paper minis.

Whats the fastest way to start solo rpg ing? Is there a plug and play type pdf or bundle which I can just download and start playing? Without any journalling or ai or none of that gay shit. Sort of like CYOAs and the theatre of the mind roleplaying that comes with mixed with mechanics like fallout the boardgame or slay the spire boardgame solo. Well it doesnt have to be like that, I just want to get my ttrpg quick and I havent found a crpg that scratches that itch
>>
>>97263898
If you want a primer on solo-rpg, I'd recommend CRGE.
If you just want an all-in-one system you'd probably want Ironsworn or one of it's hacks.
If you want something a bit more fast, loose, narrative-based, and setting agnostic Miso RPG or Desired Scenes might help you.
If you meant something a bit more structured you could try Hints and Hijinx.
If none of that appeals to you you'll have to be more specific.
>>
Is Gurps a good system for Solo play?
>>
>>97263111
I'm using the genesys hack so it plays a little bit different compared to the 1d100 system. And on top of that I'm very liberal with what is considered canon and possible in the wh40k verse so keep that in mind.
In general I'm using the rogue trader and his changing retinue as a vehicle to get into differently flavoured adventures depending on what kind of idea I'm floating in my head. Not too much book-keeping and more, fly to planet xy take a look around whats going on there and then get into problems. That means you have to take the Star Trek approach and only ever have the core group of 2-4 officers roll out and once combat breaks out you ultimately have a scene where your scion of imperial authority dukes it out with either his saber or fists 1vs1. Otherwise you go insane in combat.
The system allows for good social encounters so that is a big plus when you throw in new NPCs and trying to figure out how they could react besides good/bad.
And if a combat scene isn't reducable to 2-4 key actors I use the mass combat system where the trader leads his men heroicly from the back with a commanding presence. Space combat is already better if you play it out alone so there is that.
Things I gloss over most of the time is supplies, tradable goods and travel that goes back between known places unless it's a difficult route.

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

Even separate books for "Player Options" "Optional Mechanics" "Equipment lists" would be good
>>

Dark sun as a setting is perfect for any sort of sword & sorcery/post apocalyptic theme. The setting is littered with ancient ruins of its previous ages, and theres many different monsters & things you can find down in them
>A littany of ghosts and undead of long dead peoples, and the spirits of now extinct genocided races like trolls, goblins, orcs, kobolds & gnomes
>ancient experiments or any of athas's menagerie of wildlife
>psionic monsters aplenty, almost everything on athas is psychic
Youre spoilt for choice, but ruins are the main focus.
Actual existing Modules that you should look at are anything with a forgotten ancient ruin (The lost city, dwellers of the forbidden city) You should be going for that, a mix of tomb raiding/Red Nails Conan/Lovecrafts nameless city.
>>
>>97264593
Anon my friend, Player's Option: Combat & Tactics, Player's Option: Skills & Powers and Player's Option: Spells & Magic are each a full-size hardcover. I understand why you'd want what you're asking for, but you need to understand that there's *no way* to bring all this content together in one consolidated volume.
>>
>>97264308
Not that i know of. You can find a compilation on
https://archive.org but it is near 6k pages long. Useful but unusable for a compendium.

>you need to understand that there's *no way* to bring all this content together in one consolidated volume.

While it could be done since PDFs don't care about page count, I think the main nightmare is just how scattered all the rules are. Aside from optional mechanics and player options tucked away in various adventures, there's also heaps of stuff in Dragon/Dungeon magazines.

Thankfully, some of the work was already done ages ago with the various compendium books, but it is kind of crazy just how much material was made for 2e, and this is far from an exhaustive list.
https://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11454

I think relying on wikis is really the best option at this point, though there are people who are doing their best to compile things like all the monsters in one space. https://www.completecompendium.com/

>the end point is destruction of humanity.
In the plain text of the story the Deep Ones are explicitly described as not wanting to destroy humanity.
>>
>>97265256
>Literally what the fuck are you talking about?
The great replacement is definitely a part of their plan. At least.

>Half the people
Oh, that calmed me down. Half the people who thought differently.

>The Deep Ones don't act as predators preying upon humans
Yeah, half the people were just some minor mistake.

>If your standard for alien psychology would apply to other humans, then how does it differ from an "American basedboy"?
I didn't understand what's your point. Different cultures can have psychology alien to each other. An American basedboy cannot properly understand a Taliban fighter. But when we are talking about "historical consciousness" (medieval, for example) in comparison to basedboy's consciousness, that have pretty different anachronistic character, which is much less plausible to have.

>, as they are the ones receiving the money (gold) in exchange for indulging the Deep One's habits (fucking human women).
Yeah, the great replacement for gold is a good deal.

Oh, also, the fate of sacrifices to the Deep Ones isn't revealed. It's possible, nay probable, that they're just sex slaves for breeding, since that seems to be their primary concern when dealing with humans.

>>97265402
>Yeah, when you are killed because you don't pray to the only right god
They didn't. Outsiders were left alone unless they were to be sacrifices and residents were left alone if they submitted to the authority of the Deep Ones. They even guaranteed anyone that submitted a right to a jury trial if they were suspected of any wrongdoing.

A FUCKING JURY TRIAL! Truly a completely alien society. Who could imagine what is going through their heads?

Just mimicking to infiltrate and not attract attention. Have you seen the movie "Mimic" (1997). It is a perfect example.

This is why “why don’t the woofs ask ancient spirits what they need to do to fix everything?” doesn’t work, those are too autistic and absent minded to help them in a coherent way. Cryptic prophecy is the most straightforward form of communication most incarna and celestines are capable of. Also remember that Gaia had to make an entire changing breed (the moloké) to be able to remember stuff

The real question is why is MM5 so damn expensive? I've never seen one live and it's a small fortune on ebay.
>>

It was printed in 2007, the final year before 4e. I have to imagine it was a fairly small print run.
>>
>>97263308
>as per the 3.5e FAQ:
So nothing of substance then? The faq has 2 issue, it has no actualy authority to adjudicate RAw and is run by whatever random writer was in charge of the service that day. The fact they even released Complete Psionic is proof enough that wotc had many shit writers that didn't understand the game they were writing for.

Lack of proper unified level based guidlines for effects, magical or otherwise, is what was fucking 3.0/3.5 over from the very start. With authors just going "that sounds cool" and adding shit in without considering what it will actually do. Even ToB done way later down the line suffers from it - for example Stone Dragon maneuvers that go through ALL DR from the very first level, instead of making it scale properly.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

star wars aliens are around the sweet spot for me. my limit is somewhere between the original trilogy and prequel trilogy. a player can be a guy with a weird lizard head like greedo, or a big hammerhead. they can have a set of arms or extra legs, maybe tentacles instead of arms, but they should be mostly humanoid. a theoretical actor should be able to fit within a costume of the alien. i wouldn't want a player to play a wacky prequel trilogy alien like sebulba or that cunt with the long neck

/po/ is so toxic that it killed itself, is what happened.
>>
I like it personally and making a map with a few papercraft objects and character stands is much easier done than figures. It's a lot more delicate though and if one of your players is a IRL Ogre with meat-clamps for hands you won't play long with your stuff.
>>97263756
Wooden or paper wouldn't be much difference in "sustainability" since a few sheets of paper can yield a lot of objects but wood figurines are much more durable.
That being said, proper woodwork is an art in itself and you are probably hard pressed to find people able to craft something half-decent as a figurine. I'm not half bad at diy projects and love working with wood for desks, couches cabinets etc but making a beautiful sculpt is really difficult and takes a lot of time.
>>
>>97263675

I don't really have a preference but some papercraft terrain look pretty nice. I used to have a pretty decent sized collection, haven't looked in /po/ in an age. There were some pretty impressive creations there.

One thing about papercraft was that they don't stand up to handling in the long term. I remember seeing someone running a home brew game at a convention ages ago, she put a ton of work into a card/paper town and I'm just imagining the state of those buildings now, if they're even still around.
